Y&R's Cady McClain On The Ending Of Prospect Park's Reboot Of AMC & Being Peter Bergman's New On-Screen Love Interest!

Daytime Emmy winner, Cady McClain debuts today on The Young and the Restless as Kelly Andrews replacing another Daytime Emmy winner Cynthia Watros.  McClain had been quite the busy gal of late;  getting married to long time love Jon Lindstrom (Kevin, GH), writing a memoir of the early part of her life, Murdering My Youth, and directing her first short film, Flip Fantasia!

In this new interview from TV Guide Magazine’s Michael Logan, she speaks candidly also about what went wrong with Prospect Park’s efforts to resurrect All My Children and One Life to Live, where Cady returned to her role as Dixie of Pine Valley.  Plus, being paired with former All My Children cast mate Peter Bergman as his new love interest on Y&R.  Here are a few excerpts below!

Cady on the end of the online reboot of All My Children:  “When you watch a beloved show come to an end and see the toll it takes on everyone with the production and the fans who have loved and supported it, it’s like the death of an entire family. The experience with Prospect Park was nightmarish and heartbreaking. I was a big supporter of the show and what they tried to do with it online, but the powers that be who held the purse strings did not have their plan in place. It was all rather sad. (Laughs) Now there is nothing to bitch about! I’m, like, ‘You people at Y&R don’t even know how bad it can get!’ Every time I drive on the lot at CBS, I say a big prayer of thanks and gratitude. I hate to say it — and I would never wish those soaps to have been cancelled ever — but the gift of that loss is that it put a hot fire under everybody’s ass.”

Cady on Y&R seemingly deciding to keep Kelly on the canvas for the purpose of being a love interest for Peter Bergman’s Jack Abbott: “Peter is an amazing actor and this is a soap opera, which is about love and romance. He needed somebody to play with and I’m thrilled to be the one.  In a way, it’s very special. When you’re dancing in a couple, there’s a leader and a follower, and there’s an art to being a follower. You have to be present and open and pay attention to the cues you’re given, and I love that. That’s a big part of why I worked so well with Michael Knight on AMC — we were great dancing partners. I think the same thing is happening with Peter. He’s very responsive, as well. He catches what I throw. But it’s fine with me to let him be the lead. I have no problem with this!”

So what do you think about Cady’s comment on the All My Children reboot and how it fizzled out? Do you think Cady and Peter will make a solid on-screen pairing as Jack and Kelly?   Let us know!

Cady, is such a class act and such an immense talent! I enjoyed her for so long as Dixie on AMC and I must say Flip Fantasia was amazing too! AMC will always be missed but now I can start watching Y&R knowing Cady is there!

Please get ride of Chelsea character and Avery ZZZZ

So happy to have Cady back in Daytime

Same. BTW, TV Guide magazine used a really cool picture of Cady, one I have never seen before. Pick it up. It’s on newsstands now (Simpsons cover).

RE the picture: her outfit looks like what she wore on Y&R yesterday so they probably took a pic of her and that’s why it hasn’t been seen before.

I am so happy Cady has joined as Kelly. She is refreshing and a terrific actress! Hope she stays for the long haul! Sad about AMC but Prospect mishandled everything. But at least fans got one final chance to see their shows, something not every fan has been given.

Well I’m a fan of Cady’s and I had high hopes for ALL MY CHILDREN as an On-line presentation – even though I thought some of the episodes were weakly written. Prospect Park REALLY did not have their ducks lined up and I truly believe they didn’t grasp the concept of soaps. To say that fans are dissapointed with the way things turned out would most certainly be a tremendous understatement.
I wish her well with her new character and I’m sure she will do a great job with the role. As for ABC-TV, my opinion of them for cancelling AMC to begin with remains very low indeed –

I have never heard of one leading lady that did not enjoy working with PB the reason he is a professional!! Be very curious to see how their chemistry works

I’m happy that Cady is on Y&R now but i think if she had a choice she would rather be on AMC again.

Oh my, you sound bitter. Cynthia is a wonderful actress, she won a daytime emmy on Guiding Light as Annie Dutton.

I don’t think i sounded bitter.I was just a comment about how i thought if Cady had a choice she would rather be on AMC again.Plus i never mentioned Cynthia Watros and i do agree with you that she is a wonderful actress. However Cady had nothing to do with Cynthia leaving Y&R.

I agree Andrew, we as fans of AMC would choose the same as well. Cady and Debbi were a strong vocal presence in Prospect Park’s efforts that it would indeed work for a second time revival and it’s fans in the long run. I can also agree with her too that it was a tremendous loss and a feeling that will always remain simply: sad. AMC was really a show that never should have been cancelled.

I did not care for watros on GL nor Y&R. Cady will bring so much to part, she is an excellent actress.

I can only hope Phyllis comes back and shoots Kelly dead ..
I thank god she did not come to GH !!!
Y&R is a lot FF and new Kelly will add greatly to it..

There are the days I wish I owned the soaps, I would totally clean house LOL 🙂
And get MM/Adam and BM/Billy and MS/Phyllis back .. they are the best of the best ..

((we all know PP did not have enough money to carry the soaps on; it is what it is ..
they at least tried … I thank them for their effort ..

Hoping she will bring some life into the character. I get the character is grieving for her son but the character was so drab and lifeless under CW’s portrayal that I am hoping Cady will give her an spark, something to make her more interesting, yet keep the I don’t give a damn because life is crap attitude Kelly had, which CW played well and the only part of Kelly I have liked.

Anyone is better than Waltros!

Cady is perfect for this role. I really enjoyed watching her today. Still boycotting ABC. Very disappointed with PP. It is easier knowing that AMC is over than waiting for PP to do something. I don’t have to search the internet daily for news involving AMC.

That is exactly how I felt, that it was like the death of an entire family. It still makes me cry. I am happy to see some of those actors on the last remaining shows. It’s like seeing an old friend. Good luck to her! Looking forward to seeing her on Y&R .

Cady started so young and always handled her work with deep layers; she is a soap survivor, and certainly still vibrant. She has respect for other actors and balances team playing with her stand-out moments. How exciting that she continues to be part of keeping the genre alive, now on Y & R!

I think that I’m definitely in the minority in my opinion and many of you will disagree but here goes………….

I’ve never cared for McClain. I was a loooooooooong time viewer of ATWT and vividly remember Yvonne Perry, the actress who originated the role of Rosanna Cabot. I liked Perry alot in the role and was sorry when she left the show. I never warmed up to McClain in the part. It didn’t help that McClain seemed to come and go between her earlier role on AMC and playing Rosanna. I’m no insider but McClain’s shifting between the shows seemed to indicate a lack of commitment from her to either show. Moreover, McClain’s Rosanna seemed to disappear from ATWT at the wrong points in plots and it was jarring. I never invested in McClain’s Rosanna because I didn’t think the actress would on the show long enough to warrant it. She came, left, came, left so often that I think it seriously damaged the character. During the McClain tenure, the once interesting Rosanna became an irrelevant “tumbleweed” blowing through Oakdale.

I associate McClain’s appearance with the serious decline that the once great ATWT took in its final years. Writer Jean Passanante and producer Chris Goutman didn’t seem to have a clue how to handle the show, downplaying its great history, introducing new/bland characters, and giving us plots that were boring and poorly executed. Moreover, there seemed to be a parade of ABC soap veterans parading through the show who were poor choices for recasts and did not match earlier actors in those roles (McClain = previously on AMC who came on as Rosanna; Marie Wilson = previously on Port Charles who appeared as Meg Snyder; Jon Lindstrom = previously on GH and Port Charles who appeared as Craig Montgomery) or who were introduced dull and annoying characters to Oakdale (Julie Pinson, previously on Port Charles who played the godawful Janet Ciccone).

The new “ABC folks” on ATWT might have been tolerable if the overall writing was good but it was bad. Moreover, the writers focused on these new characters while long-appearing actors playing established characters were minimized and barely seen. (I vividly remember comments from 50-year ATWT veteran Eileen Fulton who, 2 years before the cancellation, stated that she wished the writers would simply give Lisa a fitting death on air if they could not use the character in a better manner). The situation was has tough to watch and, frankly, I think it killed the show. ATWT didn’t “lose” its audience. The poor writing and casting decisions drove it away!!!!

Fair or not, I associate McClain with all of this and will never warm up to her. With Cynthia Waltros unavailable to play the relatively new character of Kelly, I wish the writers had simply written the character off of the show than bring McClain on board.

From my experience watching the dying ATWT, I shudder to think what might occur to Y&R with Jean Passanante as a writer and folks like McClain coming on board. How long will it be before Y&R snaps up Julie Pinson take over as Phyllis Newman? If that happens, this 40-year viewer of Y&R will turn off the show for good. I’d rather not see what happened to ATWT occur to Y&R but, sadly, it sure looks like things are heading that way!!!!

I’m no insider but McClain’s shifting between the shows seemed to indicate a lack of commitment from her to either show.

Cady’s shifting between AMC and ATWT really wasn’t totally her; she did leave AMC originally to pursue other roles, but did ask to stay and/or come back as a recurring character. Instead, she went to ATWT as Rosanna, which was a different role for her, something she wanted. They then dropped her to recurring in 2005; AMC lured her back to the show later that year.

Then, they killed her off with poisonous pancakes in 2007. So she returned to ATWT, but left because the writing left Rosanna as a weaker woman, something she didn’t feel comfortable portraying. So she alternated between AMC and ATWT, until she returned to ATWT full-time in 2009, while Maura West was on maternity leave, and left when she came back.

She did several guest stints on AMC for storyline purposes. She came back to ATWT in 2010 for the final episodes, and then returned full-time to AMC for their final months in 2011 and for the final season in 2013.

So it really was never her; it was the writers and the stories they were telling for the characters she was portraying, Dixie in particular.

Agree with a lot you say but I don’t think they have any plans to recast Phyllis I think she is going to stay in that coma for a long time probably forever unless MS decides to come back which is very doubtful! A columnist friend of mine once said their are some characters that should just not be recast and MS owned the role of Phyllis. I think JFP knows that because I think she considered recasting Phyllis with Cynthia Watros and then said no do not think so and created Kelly.

I agree with you…Cady is overrated…hated what ATWTs did with Eileen Fultons character who was one of daytimes greatest villianeses!!!

I did not like her today.
She doesn’t speak slowly or softly like original Kelly…and
other things about her, too, don’t seem similar.
I guess I assumed the new actress would have taken
her portrayal of Kelly on as more similar to the original.
Would have helped ease the transition to yet another
new actor/actress on this soap.

I kinda agree. Her Kelly is different and I found myself thinking, the other Kelly would have done this…I want to like Cady. Maybe over time I’ll get used to her. Cady’s Kelly doesn’t seem to have the easy-going vibe that Cynthia’s Kelly had. It was a bit jarring.

The original Kelly had that wrong side of the tracks feel about her imo. NuKelly seems more like one of the wealthy Brookes sisters…like a young Chris Brookes from the 70s era…maybe they are related…her daughter perhaps?

I want Cynthia/Kelly back.
she was more drama like and had a mystery about her.. she played the roll much more intriguing than Cady..
Cady comes off as a powder-puff, not intriguing, no edge, a whole different Kelly, I’m not liking it lol 🙂

If NuKelly is revealed to be the daughter of Chris Brooks (and, with this writing crew, something as inane as that is a possibility!!!), then she likely is also the daughter of Snapper Foster, Chris’ husband. This would make Jill the aunt of NuKelly as she was the adopted sister of Snapper.

Right Cady has only been on one episode i think. So maybe it’s a little too soon to really judge her as Kelly. As Cady is a very different actress than Cynthia Watros is and her trying to do what Cynthia did in the role i don’t think would work.Plus i’m thinking Cady’s first few episodes as Kelly was the writers thinking Cynthia playing her and writing to her strengths. So the writers may just need time to write to Cady’s strengths in how they write for Kelly now.

I agree. I do not like Cady as Kelly.. She talks and acts so harsh. I think Y&R should have replaced Kelly with someone similar to the last. Very disappointed .. I never would have considered her for the part.

Isn’t that funny! I still remember Peter Bergman as Cliff Warner on AMC; and Cady got her daytime start on AMC! Best of luck, Cady!

Just read her TVG interview. WOW! I had no idea she’d gone through so much stuff. I didn’t watch AMC, though I knew who she was and who she played. Have new respect for her now. Wish her the best. Hope she wins me over on Y&R. I’m rooting for her.

I wish Cady the best but… hate to say I did not like her today.. maybe over time I will, sure hope so because sounds like she will be around for some time to come, CW is the best…IMO

Considering the mountains that Prospect Park had to move (in record time) and the crap they waded through with ABC, I really don’t appreciate any of the creative people criticizing the company that tried to save these 2 iconic shows. They should be applauded for the effort.

I recorded… thee show

Jacob Young Shares Production Pic of Cast of His New Film Featuring Joan Collins and Nadia Bjorlin

Last month, during a livestream conversation on the Michael Fairman Channel, while promoting Jason Cook’s film, Four for Fun, and featuring soap notables Jacob Young (ex-AJ, AMC, ex-Lucky, GH, ex-Rick, B&B) and Brytni Sarpy (Y&R), Young revealed some intel on his upcoming movie project.

Jacob shared that he was set to direct, produce and star in a Agatha Christie-like murder mystery feature film, Murder Between Friends shooting in Prague.

The actor/director expressed, “I’m flying at the end of the March to Prague to direct, produce and star in a film with Joan Collins (ex-Dynasty). Nadia Bjorlin (ex-Chloe, Days of our Lives) is in it, and Toby Alexander Smith from Eastenders (ex-Gray Atkins). Plus, a couple of my Broadway friends and a very well known Czech actress (Hana Vagnerova). It’s very ‘Knives Out’ without having a hundred million dollars to shoot it, but still will be a lovely film nonetheless.”

Young is currently shooting the film’s principal photography abroad through April 17th.

Her passing was confirmed by Rush’s daughter, Fox News Channel senior correspondent Claudia Cowan. In a statement, Claudia shared, “My wonderful mother passed away peacefully at 5:28 this evening. I was with her this morning and know she was waiting for me to return home safely to transition. It’s fitting she chose to leave on Easter as it was one of her favorite holidays and now, of course, Easter will have a deeper significance for me and my family.”

Barbara had an extensive career in films and television that included roles in: It Came From Outer Space, The Goldbergs, 7th Heaven,  The Young Philadelphians, Robin and the 7 Hoods, The Young Lions, Batman (TV series ), The Bionic Woman, Fantasy Island, Love Boat, Murder, She Wrote and so many others.
