Y&R's Greg Rikaart Reminds Us All How Special His Performance As Kevin Truly Is In Grief-Stricken Scenes At Chloe's "Funeral"!
If you caught Tuesday’s episode of The Young and the Restless, perhaps you found yourself, like us, wondering why the top-rated soap would soon be saying goodbye to Daytime Emmy-winning cast member, Greg Rikaart (Kevin Fisher)?
For 14 years, Rikaart has played the complexities of Kevin with so much humanity, and it was all on full display during the “funeral” scenes for the love of his life, Chloe Mitchell (Elizabeth Hendrickson).
First, Kevin is angry and goes ballistic that Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan) and Nick (Joshua Morrow) had the nerve to show up at the funeral service, because Kevin is blaming them for Chloe’s decision to take her life. He says, “Both of you! You did this together!” After the outburst and the exit of Chelsea and Nick, Kevin calms down a bit and says to all in attendance it’s time to say goodbye to Chloe.
Father Todd (Corbin Bernsen) continues the service and Kevin gets up to speak. His brother, Michael (Christian LeBlanc), his mother, Gloria (Judith Chapman) and Lauren (Tracey E. Bregman) are all concerned for Kevin’s well-being and overwhelming sadness.
Kevin wants to make sure that everyone remembers the Chloe he knew and how good she was at her core, but how events transpired that caused havoc with her mental stability. He tells Chloe that he will always love her. In a gut-wrenching part of his speech, Kevin says that Chloe is now with Delia, and that he promises to take care of little Bella. In a touching move, Gloria wants Michael to walk up to the casket and help his brother with his grief.
After the funeral ends, it’s time for Bella to say one last goodbye to her mother, and Kevin helps her to do so as his family looks on. Once alone in the church, in another hankie-moment, Kevin apologizes to Chloe for letting her down saying she deserved better. And then the shocker: Kevin faints as Chloe’s arm opens the casket! She’s not dead after all!
Throughout the episode, Rikaart illustrated how he is still one of the best actors in the game capable of such heartfelt and emotional performances.
So, what did you think of Greg’s performance as Kevin at Chloe’s “funeral”? What did you think of the final moments of the episode? Comment below.
Greg Rikaart is an incredible actor, and today’s episode was just another demonstration! I seriously hope his recent performances will earn him an Emmy nomination next year. On Twitter, I remember him once using the term “organic” to describe certain moments on-camera, and that is exactly how I would describe his acting: organic! On the other hand, what are the writers going for here with the casket opening?! I confess I had accidently read a spoiler about that, but was hoping it was a rumor! Yikes! Pretty soapy stuff! I’ve always enjoyed Chloe and was all prepared to grieve along with maybe a beautiful, emotional montage of Chloe throughout the years, and boom! What the heck?? I don’t know if I’m going to like what comes next.
Yep, pretty crazy. And I was thinking Hurry up and get off the floor, Kevin…you need
to grab Chloe and run before anyone comes in.
I never gave a hoot about Chloe , ehh never was impressed by the character,
I do like Kevin and he was a great character, I will miss him (but not Chloe )
Chelsea has turned into a dingbat…
She irritates me and I have need to FF through her constant stupid nagging.
I had no doubt that Chloe was alive, none whatsoever.
I knew Chloe, Kevin and Bella would walk off into the sunset to a new life..
That was obvious from the beginning. No surprise here, sigh.
Chelsea used to be one of my faves. Not anymore!
She irritates me, too, ugh.
And she and Nick together equal total boredom. No chemistry!
Join the club, Nanci, my friend….. I have had an antipathy for Chelsea fron the beginning. Forgetting her son, Johnny intensified my dislike.
Plus, all this pain she has for losing her husband can’t be that overwhelming when she fell unto the proverbial haystack soon after his “death”. And, with her brother-in-law to boot.
She came from the gutter, lied and cheated her way up the ‘riches’ scale, and suddenly she’s wearing a not-so-shiny halo.
You are so right, Nanci. Chelsea’s and Nick’s romance is blah, blah, blah. No story, here.
Chelsea is like nails on a chalkboard for me. She has ZERO chemistry with Nick. You are right, complete boredom and snooze fest!
Hey Cee,
I have come full circle with Chelsea. Disliked her when she first came to town…
later she grew on me, and now back to square one, lol.
And “not so shiny halo” – good one! So true!
Joshua Morrow : I’ve always said, is the best “cheerleader” for any show. he has a natural gift of gab that is entertaining.
that’s it
his contribution to the show… has lied dormant and is dead on arrival.
I don’t understand the validity of his worth.
as always.. when it comes to one of his “girlfriends” and/or wives… it’s the same old scene over and over. the “meddling” by his father.. and taking over his affairs. and the same ole thing with Nikki. like he’s being guarded till he and his father come to another millionth billionth trillionth truce. end of story
Nick needs to go up stairs to the attic or go and check the mail.
bye bye i’m certainly not waiting for a Sharon and Nick reunion. that belongs to Michael Muhney
Well, Nanci, my friend….At least you got to like her for a time, LOL. I never did. I like the actress, albeit, as I said, a few days ago, I only appreciated her performance once.
Melissa was great on AMC. So, I discredit the writers for writing her as such a needy, clingy character. Chasing Chloe was neither credible, nor palatable for me.
And, Nick is so wrong for her. Adam is coming back—I am looking forward to the melodrama of what’s to come.
Nick has his secret; not disclosing Victor’s hand in catapulting Adam’s ‘death’, but, Chelsea and Adam and Victor have theirs.
I still believe Christian is Nick’s. The caca will hit the fan.
Nick and Chelsea are major FF material!
I am shocked but trying to hold out hope. Yes, Greg’s scenes were in your face and he played every note as Kevin to perfection but he always did that. Not sure who got the bright idea to let him go but this could all still be turned around. The thing i am really ticked off about is how Chloe was written after Delia died. I can totally understand Chloe losing it for a while but she should have come back stronger. Instead, what we got was a young lady who was out for blood. I hope we like the surprises that are coming because we know both actors are off the show. For now anyway.
If ONLY they had fixed the story in the first place and proven that Adam did NOT kill Delia. It was the dumbest thing ever. He would have known if he hit a child with his car. Why could they not have redeemed Adam for this??? I will never understand this.
Exactly what I had been thinking lately. I thought they were going to
go in the direction of redemption awhile back, but nope, didnt happen.
Very frustrating!
Agree with you and Nanci, Chrystie.
If I remember correctly, Nanci and I did have a conversation, way back when, about this. Many did.
I think the story took such a weird turn because of all the shenanigans going on with MM and HK and EB.
TPTB took the easy way out and threw Adam in the trash. Then, they resurrected him in the form of Justin Hartley ( who did a fantastic job).
Then, they decided to turn Chloe into a murdering looney-tune.
I wonder; when Adam comes back, will Chloe show up, as well? How will she explain her ‘death’? LOL.
what’s more irritating is, the fallout FOR the character… after being involved with , for , or against.. the almighty god who’s so macho with his boxing gloves.
does she even stand a chance ?
I’ve always liked the characters , both…Chloe and Kevin
they brought presence… intelligence… a camaraderie.. and delight.. because these two actors… who don’t mind working in this genre. are solid. they have all the tools of the trade… ( writings sucks ) and TPTB just totally denigrated .. and dissed the actors with their characters who have more value than most.
they may not be a Newman or Abbott
nevertheless… Chloe, being Esther daughter
nevertheless… Kevin, with the bang up Baldwin troupe
these were core familial in and of itself… GREAT distraction when the storylines are sucking and it’s all about the nuMAN ( please) and weak link just Jack???
all for naught… will Chloe and Kevin ride off in to the sunset with Bella.
@su ( LOL ) this is the best way to move things right along. i’d well up and heart tug for this family. argh! right back to square one with .. ready to die Victor already. just like he man Sonny @GH. what’s it all about
or… which will really suck.. is they go in to hiding… till the nuADAM is ready to live again. this will really peeve me off.. and totally write off Young and Sussman
Michael Muhney for the win win all around
he generates / ratings / cache
It would be a good thing if Greg was brought in to GH ..
I’d like to see him with Filex ..
Yes, let Greg be who he is!
awwwhh
that’s nice. GH really needs to step up to the plate… and acknowledge ??????
argh!!!!! what’s the point so many characters gone by the wayside… with their ideals of what makes a serial and their representation of General Hospital.
drum roll for dullard (s) cheers
Sonny / Carly / Jason / Sam / Finn / Hayden / Nelle / Michael / Franco
drum roll for fans !!!! Jeans writing is DEAD.
just around the corner… ABC / Disney / GH
FIRE Shelley and Frank for the vast wasteland… it stinks already
Suoooo, you read my mind…sort of. Since Lucas is rarely on, I think Greg and Parry/Brad would have off the charts chemistry. And I’d love to see Greg reunited with ex-castmates Michelle Stafford and Billy Miller. Billy used to have such fun teasing his “little chipmunk”. Too bad they can’t turn Jason gay…Greg Rikaart and Billy Miller as a Couple? Call the Port Charles Fire Department right now!
Awwwww!! That brings back so many great, sweet memories of Y&R’s good ‘ole days, Soaphound.
I’d love that!! And, LOL about Billy and Greg as a couple. I bet they’d light up the stage so much more than with Sam.
He was great and a lot of the time I was thinking, how can they let him go????!!!!!
Greg goes but we have to FF through the Winters kids, Jordan, Juliet, Reed and that god awful Tessa1
Tessa scenes are brutal to watch, and she has absolutely ZERO chemistry with Noah. Total snooze fest.
Yeah, and I dont mind Noah but like Michael on GH, Noah ALWAYS gets the snoozers for girlfriends!
I wanted to like Tessa, but yeah, she just is snoozy. And I’m not interested in
another “Noah falls in love with a damsel in distress” kind of thing, either!
But speaking of Y&R, when Chloe “Died”, the police were nowhere to be found! When someone dies, yes the paramedics would be there but regardless, the police would be there to. Well, I guess to fake Chloe’s death Victor could only muster a doctor who is on his payroll and two fake paramedics. Weak story. But when Greg announced his dismissal you knew he would be reunited with Chloe.
Greg has done a phenomenal acting job as Kevin. I hate to see him go. It was a stupid decision on the part of Y&R.
I won’t miss Chloe, but I will definitely miss Kevin (Greg).
I definitely will NOT miss Chloe. UGH!
Going to miss Greg so much!
Really wish he was not leaving, what a loss.
Hi, again, Nanci,
I may be reading Tessa wrong, but I don’t see her as a damsel in distress, yet. She reminds me of Nurse Amy on GH. She’s likable enough, but, there’s something about her I can’t explain. She makes me uncomfortable. Is she in town to usurp the Newmans? Is she following someone’s orders? Is this why she’s so jumpy? I don’t get the subterfuge, unless she’s hiding something.
Well, if she makes me this uncomfortable, and if this was the writers’ intent; then, ‘Tessa’ is doing her job, and doing it well.
Hi Cee,
Tessa definitely has something weird going on.
Her jumpiness is irritating. The pauses between sentences,
the look of angst that suddenly crosses her face, etc. etc.
Noah questioning her again and again. Don’t know when
we will know her story, but I no longer care, lol. She bugs
me bigtime.
I don’t recall a soap doing a honest story about suicide — usually it ends up like this story– where it was a ploy to make someone think they were dead– and of course we know Victor is the mastermind behind it– I am sorry to see Kevin go, but at least the character will be with Chloe and hopefully Bella–otherwise expect a new paternity test to pop up proving Billy is the father
GR did a great job and I am going truly miss his scenes with Christian LeBlanc– those two had a wonderful working chemistry– I truly felt like they were brothers. And I loved the Kevin and Gloria relationship too– not sure why the show decided Kevin was no longer necessary to the canvas, but whatever the reason I am sure Greg will land on his feet and go on to bigger and better roles.
In Genoa City, anyone can stroll into the unattended DNA lab and switch results! Easy peasy!
Very bad mistake, how can they think it’s a good idea to get rid of a popular actor and character when they have so much dead weight on the show.
I loved the Kevin and Michael scenes. Love how close the two brothers are and I admire their relationship. LOVE Gloria, too.
I am going to miss Greg Rikaart – I really feel there is so much more they could do with Kevin.
All the best.
Going to miss Greg R. so much! What a great actor and character. No doubt, this young man has a bright future!
Gotta ask: Can we please keep Greg? I will gladly give up the characters of Tessa, the Winters Instateens, Chelsea, the vapid ‘mean girls’. We need more of the Baldwins and less of these hanger-ons.
“thank you” heartsick about this
deadweight … spread that all around
IF… she’s still alive… and this will turn on Victor… as Chloe , Kevin, and Bella go in to hiding… and down the road
Chloe , once again , returns… with “vengeance” against Victor, with Adam help. could be sensational.
dead Victor …. that’s all I want
dead Sonny…. help
I love your term “instateens”. And the curious part of that is- they didn’t even get sent to boarding school!
Jeanine, Ditto, ditto, ditto!
Agree with every word, for sure.
How about GH hire Greg and Liz as Robin and Patrick?
The Y&R has simply become a show I have on for background noise while eating lunch. The writing has become so phenomenally outlandish and outright stupid that the show deserves to be cancelled. And letting our favorite actors (Greg Rikaart first and foremost) go only serves to make the show that much worse.
Can someone download this episode of y&r from 2017?
