41st Daytime Emmy’s – Fashion Review
EMMY FASHION REVIEW
By Lauren Koslow
Special Fashion Contributor On-Air On-Soaps
Hey Onliners!! It’s Emmy Fashion review time again!
The 2014 Daytime Emmy Red Carpet was the site of…um, some controversy this year. Times change, trends rule & rules are made to be broken. And I DO like a blast of spontaneity-why not?! We can even take “serious” down a notch. But let’s keep the style mantra of fashion doyenne Lynn Wyatt in mind: “Class with a dash of sass but never trash.” Just saying…
So, I’m here to talk fashion…and in general, the fashion was pretty fabulous. There appears to be a transition in the style of the ceremony and some of the sartorial choices reflected the less formal atmosphere of the event. Only time will tell if this formally black tie gala will go “Hollywood Cocktail glam” #staytuned
“Style is a very simple way of saying complicated things” Jean Cocteau. There were a lot of different statements being made on Sunday night. Jeweled and beaded gowns evoked eras past — “Old Hollywood” looks that are always crowd pleasers. Short, sophisticated dresses and edgy trouser ensembles were a definite trend and they looked fresh & modern. Overall … most everyone looked camera ready for their close up! (and for those who weren’t …we have some do’s & don’ts…all subject to personal taste, of course!!)
Enjoy!!

Okay, it’s the Emmy awards but you still don’t feel like doing full drag.
There are ways to dress less formally and still be in a fashion groove.

It’s hard to believe it’s been 30 years since Sheila Carter (Kimberlin Brown) arrived in Los Angeles from Genoa City and somehow continued her villainess and evil ways taking aim at a new family, the Forresters, and terrorizing those they loved all along the way.
Yesterday, in a very special on set celebration (which also marked the first-time press could return to The Bold and the Beautiful sound stages since the Covid-19 pandemic began), the CBS daytime drama saluted Sheila’s portrayer, the one and only Kimberlin Brown.

Photo: JPI
Complete with rapid fire and entertaining speeches from: B&B’s executive producer and head writer, Brad Bell, producer, Ed Scott, plus Kimberlin’s B&B castmates Katherine Kelly Lang (Brooke) and John McCook (Eric), the event also saw many of the cast in attendance singing the praises of Brown’s Sheila and paying tribute to her soap legacy including: Annika Noelle (Hope), Lawrence Saint-Victor (Carter), Heather Tom (Katie), Sean Kanan (Deacon), Jennifer Gareis (Donna), Matthew Atkinson (Thomas), Tanner Novlan (Finn) and Ken Hanes (Mike).
A special treat was served to all those in attendance … chocolate covered toes! It was a very clever nod to the story point where Sheila cut off her own toe to make it look as if a bear ate it, to throw off the police and let everyone believe she was dead.

When it was time for Kimberlin to address the media, and the cast, crew and executives in attendance she shared: “I remember the first time I read for the role of Sheila Carter, and I will never forget Ed Scott walking out into the room and looking at me and saying, ‘I want you to think Kathy Bates in Misery … and there is nothing wrong that you can do and no boundaries that you cannot push,’ and to have that kind of freedom going into a reading full of producers and writers, directors. … it was just an amazing moment. Coming to ‘Bold and the Beautiful’ that was an incredible moment in my life. I literally got a call from Bill Bell on set at Y&R saying, “I have written this character that I have come to love into a corner … and I’m either going to have to kill your character off or I am going to have to send you away for a long time before I can bring you back again. He said, ‘Can anybody hear you?’ And I had happened to be in the booth and I said ‘Yes’. He said, ‘OK, then you cannot answer me, but ‘yes’ or ‘no.’ I said “OK’. He said, ‘Well, ‘Bold and the Beautiful’ is in Los Angeles.’ He said, ‘How would you feel about leaving Genoa City and traveling to L.A.’ I said, ‘Uh-huh, then he said, ‘Well, you would be Sheila on The Bold and the Beautiful. Would you be happy with that?’ And I said, ‘Oh, yes! Very much so.'”

Brown added: “When I did that very first scene with Eric (John McCook), interviewing for the company nurse, I knew my life was about to take a change, and that it gave my character a chance to be something new, something she hadn’t been before. I find that every single time I come back and play her Brad (Bell). You give me credit for the expansion of this character, and where she is and where she’s going, but I can’t do that without Brad. He has truly stepped into some enormous shoes and you have filled them beautifully. I am so blessed to work with such a talented group of people. It’s so neat to see the new generation coming up as well, and be a part of their storylines and lives as well, and the way everything is intermixed. I can’t wait to see where Sheila is going next, because I think I am finally at a point in my life where I have really found my happiness.”
B&B plans a very special Halloween episode airing next Monday on October 31st centering around the 30 years of Sheila and you can check out that promo here.
Check out our photo gallery below featuring some of the backstage and on set moments from B&B’s Sheila Carter/Kimberlin Brown celebration, and be on the lookout for interviews from the event in the days ahead.
Then let us know, what has been your favorite Sheila storyline on B&B over the past 30 years … and post your kudos and well-wishes to Kimberlin for a job well-done via the comment section.
