Photo: JPI Studios

Today at the CBS Upfronts the network unveiled a new comedy series for its fall line-up from Chuck Lorre entitled Bob ♥ Abishola.

The series stars Folake Olowofoyeku as the love interest of Billy Gardell’s Bob, a middle-aged compression sock businessman from Detroit who unexpectedly falls for his cardiac nurse, a Nigerian immigrant.

Also in the cast is two-time Daytime Emmy winner, Vernee Watson (Stella, General Hospital) who will play Gloria.

The series will air in the fall on Monday night’s in the 8:30-9pm slot.

No word yet if this means less screen time for Stella on the Port Charles canvas … or Watson’s status with the series.

So, what do you think of Vernee’s new role? Let us know in the comment section below.

And check out our backstage interview with Vernee following her Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series victory during this year’s 46th annual Daytime Emmys just over a week ago.

My advice? Stay with GH. I don’t want Vernee off the show. I have been watching her on so much since the 70s but I think she’s the best on GH.

I hope she can manage both shows. I wish her well with her prime time gig (but serious doubt it will last)and LOVE her as Aunt Stella on GH.

I’m sure she will remain with GH..
Her scenes are quite short; sorta family filler.
She is not upfront and she will have no problem with staying on GH..

Its a great opportunity for Vernee’ to get other work $$, good for her !

she’s deserving.. in a big playing field… yeah, it’s just 4 serial.. yet the submission for supporting is TALENT

she has that look and voice that equate presence for comedic timing. for acting

shows if fortunate enough last beyond 1 year… FIND AN AUDIENCE.. which is staggering for any fan of daytime.

she will be a big loss.. should the color fade from Curtis / Jordan / TJ / Epiphany / Felix etc.. from daytime period

I liked her from the get go

GOD I so wished that Max Gail Mike and Stella could have shared their time with us

now that was a doozy appeal

if she stays … it’s a good gig… shucks like I read from @DAYS Valerie… Vanessa Williams… it was a “paycheck” hell YEAH … these people WORK.

she needs a romance… I was so liking Stella AND Marcus… now here was solid tall dark and handsome . VA VA VA VOOM YUM

The Young and the Restless Pushes Back Production Restart Date Due To COVID-19 Spike

As the coronavirus pandemic is spiking again in LA County and California, CBS’ Daytime-Emmy winning The Young and the Restless has now postponed their previously announced goal of a production restart of July 6th to now eyeing July 13th as their new start date.  Deadline first broke the news.

But all of this could change, given that California Governor Gavin Newsom and LA County health officials have come forward that the spike of COVID-19 cases, test positivity and hospitalization rates in California have given the Governor serious concerns, so much so that now he is tightening restrictions again for the state to include: once again shutting down indoor dining, closing all bars, indoor movie theatres, as well as all beaches being closed for the 4th of July holiday.

Just last Friday, Y&R picked up the Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Drama Series at the 47th annual Daytime Emmy Awards.

General Hospital is still eyeing a mid-July production restart, The Bold and the Beautiful had gone back into production and Days of our Lives still has episodes banked into the fall, and at this time have not yet announced plans to restart production.

So, do you think Y&R can safely go back into production in a few weeks given the COVID-19 uptick in new cases? Comment below,

47th Annual Daytime Emmys Draws Over 3 Million Viewers For CBS Telecast with Return to Network TV

Friday night was a good night for daytime!  With its first foray back on to network television since 2011, the Daytime Emmy kudofest, while for the first time held this year virtually, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, scored very well in its timeslot.

The CBS broadcast averaged 3.1 million total viewers and a 0.3 demo rating.  That is way up from the last time viewers saw the award show on TV when it was on cable network POP TV back in 2015 with just over 900,000 viewers for its initial broadcast.

According to TV Insider report: The first hour of the Emmys garnered 3.3 million viewers to top the hour by edging out a rerun on ABC”s Shark Tank, and then slipped to second place for the second hour with 2.8 million viewers.

These were strong numbers for Friday night, and hopefully CBS and the other major networks will now continue this, and serve up the Daytime Emmy Awards moving forward.
