Jessica Tuck On Wrapping Up Her Run As GH’s Cassandra: "I Think I’m Going Down!"

This week, General Hospital and longtime One Life to Live fans saw one of the finest actresses to grace daytime screens, Jessica Tuck, make a soapy exit.

Tuck, who came to GH to play drug-trafficking Cassandra who had ties to Valentin (James Patrick Stuat), and was the target of Anna (Finola Hughes) and Finn’s (Michael Easton) plans to bring her to justice, wound up in serious coma after her nefarious activities.   Those included at the end of her reign of terror: holding Anna and Valentin hostage, and drugging poor recovery drug addict, Finn.

One Life to Live fans recall Jessica as Megan Gordon Harrison, whose love story with Jake (Joe Lando), and the character’s eventual death was one of the most heartbreaking in daytime soap history.

On her exit from GH, Tuck told Soap Opera Digest (in the latest issue on newsstands now) about the longevity of playing Cassandra: “I never really knew what her deal was going to be or how long I might be there.”  She went on to say, “I was on borrowed time.  There was a flurry at the end of the scripts and I said to my family, ‘I think I’m going down.  I’m getting really evil and awful.”‘

Jessica expressed to SOD how much she appreciated the opportunity to work on GH, and again with her longtime friend and GH EP, Frank Valentini.

In story: After Finn explains to Anna that while he was drugged, he jumped Cassandra, but had no memory of stabbing her with the needle which rendered her unconscious with a drug overdose, Anna revealed to Finn that he didn’t kill Cassandra, because she was found in an alley and was in critical condition in the ICU at GH.  Later, an upset Anna visits Cassandra in the ICU, where it looks like she may do her in herself.  However, we are later told the WSB moved Cassandra to a facility and into custody, where she may never recover.

So, what did you think of the ending of Cassandra’s story? Were you hoping GH would keep Jessica Tuck on the canvas longer?  Comment below!

There is new evil in town and it was Cassandra….she could easily take over for Helene Cassidine!!!!….So who is Faison’s other son…if older than Nathan i hope its Finn…can you imagine Anna’s reaction that she is falling in love with Faison’s SON!!!!

I think Faison’s other son is Peter Wells. The new COO of Aurora Media. He pushed Lulu hard to get her to do a story in Faison, why?????

Celia

I’ll buy that,Kgs….except that Finn is too old to be Faison’s son….
…oh, golly gee…what am I saying!!….Sam is Julian’s daughter, looks more like should be his wife…..it’s a soap….a world without physical dimension…
…the universe does have, at least, ten dimensions. Perhaps GH and all of soapdom have not been accounted into the physical field yet……a place where we defy age.LOL.

More like a place that totally defies logic, CeeCee!! Realistically speaking, Julian would have been all of about six when he fathered Sam….I know Alexis covets men who are younger and full of sexual stamina, but that’s just ridiculous!!!!

Exactly, Jimh! Cassandra perfectly fulfilled the role of icy “b*+@# goddess” that Port Charles has so sorely needed since Helena’s hasty departure. I really adored her cool and classy demeanor and thought that her arrival brought with it such a panoply of prospective plot possibilities, including the tantalizing notion that this lethal lady was, in fact, a bonafide Cassadine! In the near future, I truly hope that Cassandra indeed emerges from her supposedly hopeless coma and returns with a vengeance, ready and refreshed for a new nefarious caper, perhaps one that doesn’t include the scourge of drugs attached to it!… Read more »

Jimh….I think Faison’s son is Peter August (Wes Ramsey) &Laura Wright’s (Carly) real life bf.i think he is setting up for confrontation w/Faison through Lulu.Maybe it’s all tied into the “supposedly killing of Nathan….Faison’s other son.
Just my suspicion. …ps…alway enjoy your comments and your love for “soap”…especially soap opera sl’s from long ago.

Faison’s other son is obviously Peter. The last name of August is a clue. In the manuscript, the son is listed as Octavius, which was another name for the Roman emperor Augustus.

Now, as for who Peter’s mother is… since he is a publisher, let’s assume that runs in the family, and mom is actually Quinn (Jennifer Bassey’s character).

GH should really find a way to keep Ms. Tuck, she was truly entertaining to watch. I agree that the show is lacking a Helena type, Jessica can surely fill that role.

Absolutely!! Keep her!!! Let’s find out that she, too, is a Cassadine. CASSANDRA CASSADINE!

Steve
Guest

She would need to be Helena’s daughter (not by Mikkos as that would make her previous affair with Valentin incestuous). Thus, not a Cassadine

Shay
Guest
Shay

Perhaps Petros Cassadine is Cassandra’s father! Remember him? He was Mikkos’ meek lookalike cousin who turned up in Port Chuck after the Ice Princess debacle. That would make Valentin and Ms. Pearce more distantly related.. albeit still incestuously joined in the biblical sense, but, hey, given this crazy clan, anything is possible!

Linda Podell
Guest
Linda Podell

She would still be a Cassadine heir, which Helena would have made sure of. Too young to be a re-cast. But very convincing bloodline. Probably grew up with Helena in some fashion. Ergo, the personality. We need Jessica!!

Skeptic

She looks like the actress that plays Helena, Constance Towers. I’m sure they thought of recasting Helena, but since Constance recently appeared in flashbacks, they didn’t want to disrespect her. I think they have too many older actress villains on the show. Why not have more nice older ladies, or at least give Monica more screen time?

Steve

Recast Helena? Constance happily shows up whenever the show asks. She can still appear in flashbacks.

Monica is now on more than many contract players, so that’s a good start. They should keep Lesley in PC, too.

OMG – what happened… did Anna and Finn.. RUN in to each other arms ? love fest … have the best sex? ewwww ! I SO HOPED that Cassandra would have taken Finn down. god of god… let Finn do something REAL and meaty.. like truly show us what drug addiction is like, and wallah he’s ambulanced to Ferncliff sanitarium… he’s such a stand alone character.. as in has no development with any one… and that INCLUDES ANNA. just no meld with any on @GH. what’s the point of him on the show. I share your enthusiasm for GH’s best villainess since Helena supposedly slipped off this mortal coil!!!! Okay, so, Cassandra will wake up from her coma a different person. Perhaps she had a tumor, LOL, and whatever trauma she experienced, dissolved it? Hey, it’s a soap; where black is white and vice versa.

@Sara….I absolutely share your disdain for the overabundance of OLTL alumni who have materialized in Port Charles through the years….most of their introductions have been stunt castings or downright unnecessary characters that added little to the GH canvas. However, I do feel that Cassandra was a truly different creature….she could have been a superb long-term evillainess in the mold of Helena, and given Jessica Tuck’s uncanny physical likeness to the incomparable Constance Towers, would have made a most convincing offspring of the Ice Queen herself! Yes, she was playing a good role in being the bad guy. Trying to mess with Nina husband and daughter. Somehow someway they should of drag it out a little more and I would of like it if she would.of got caught at the plant where she was making the drugs. She had the upper hand with Finn cause his vision was bluer. She did a excellent job in her role. nice

Shay

I was really hoping Cassandra would go full-tilt psycho and bump off the useless Nina in an attempt to recapture Valentin for herself! Now THAT would have been fun! She also would’ve made a great bedmate for Julian…especially when the green-eyed monster that is Alexis reactively emerged! And if Cassandra did indeed prove to be Helena’s daughter— as many of us have surmised—how utterly moreish it would have been for her own offspring to kill the spawn of the woman Helena herself murdered…and with the same dagger??? Oh, that would have been toooo poetic!

Well, a depraved serial killer being the son of a treasonous psycho terrorist like Faison would certainly make more sense than him being the son of Scott Baldwin – a somewhat sleazy lawyer (who will feel right at home here in Hell) but hardly one to pass on a lunatic gene.

But the last thing they need to do is put Frodd at the center of yet another storyline. He was the stinking pile of dragonshit that messed up the otherwise well done return of Jason.

GH Faves Finola Hughes, Ian Buchanan, Brooklyn Rae Silzer, Marc Anthony Samuel In New IGTV Series, ‘Enter Exit’

This week, General Hospital’s Finola Hughes (Anna) and some very good friends and acting partners debuted in a new IGTV series, directed by Hughes amid the COVID-19 pandemic, and it’s a thriller! What else would we expect from the woman who plays super spy Anna Devane on the ABC daytime drama series.

The IGTV (Instagam’s longer video application) series is called, Enter Exit, and there are 11 episodes, and the first one dropped on Monday.  It is  written by TV scribe Matt Boren, and also stars some of Port Charles’ longtime favorites that include: Ian Buchanan (Ex-Duke), Brooklyn Rae Silzer (Emma) and Marc Anthony Samuel (Felix).

Hughes told SOD how she was inspired to come up with the concept for the show:  “I started to think about, if you’re in lockdown, what would be a narrative where you could act in a vacuum, basically? I first started thinking about what my character would be — a retired (government) agent. And then there’s some reason that I’m retired. And I started to think about stationary shots and walking into your closeup and all those kinds of things. I left (the rest) with Matt; it was basically, ‘Whatever he writes, we’ll do.’ And I just sort of concentrated on how, feasibly, we could do it.”’

Boren, who has been an ardent viewer of GH from its hey day, shared on working off Hughes seeds of an idea to what Enter Exit is about: “In a sense, it’s a local detective thriller that starts out small — and understandably so as season one takes place during the pandemic. However, what we seed throughout these first 11 mini-episodes hints at a show that longs to be on a much larger, more global scale. We were absolutely inspired by ’80s GH — the WSB, the espionage and larger than life stories that were so thrilling, and through Devane/Scorpio/Lavery/Donnelly/Jones, so grounded. Throw that in with some Killing Eve, X-Files and (this will make sense down the line) Stranger Things, and you have a recipe that might be pages away in our cookbook.”

Days Of Our Lives

GH’s Maurice Benard and DAYS Kassie DePaiva Named “Power Performances of the Week”

Two daytime vets in two very opposing types of storylines delivered emotional and riveting work during their scenes.  First on General Hospital, Maurice Benard (Sonny) in yet another stellar knockout performance in the Alzheimer’s storyline; showed the anguish and pain of a son trying to come to terms with his father’s ultimate fate.

This week saw Sonny originally deciding to try to prolong Mike’s (Max Gail) life by having him placed on a feeding tube, but soon after seeing the fate of Yvonne, another Alzheimer’s patient, and a talk with Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst), Sonny changed course, and did what’s best for Mike, not for himself, and decided to let his father die with dignity and with as least suffering as possible.

We don’t think there could have been a dry eye in the house when Sonny visited Mike’s hospital bedside, and told him that it’s OK for his dad to let go, and not have to stick around for him.  Max Gail, as per usual, was also so touching in these scenes.

Benard did not overplay a beat, and for anyone who has had a parent die of this dreadful disease, you could relate to what Sonny went through in the more than capable hands of this two-time Daytime Emmy winner.

Over on Days of our Lives, what a return for Kassie DePaiva in her role as Eve Donovan! This time, she has come back unhinged and at an emotional rock bottom, so much so that she had abducted Ben Weston (Rob Scott Wilson), had him taken to an abandoned warehouse, strapped him up, tortured him with an assist from Dr. Rolf’s protege, Vincent (Michael Teh), and came up with this twisted plot to have Ben turn back into the “necktie serial killer” and kill his bride, Ciara (Victoria Konefal).

Why, you say? Well, because Eve’s daughter, Paige was one of Ben’s victims and it has been eating Eve alive this whole time. She is a mama grieving for her daughter so deeply that she can’t understand why Paige is dead and he is left on earth to roam around free and find love and happiness… and we find out she was gutted when Ben got a last-minute reprieve when he was recently sentenced to death by lethal injection.

DePaiva played this arc of Eve’s story as a soapalicious villain, but when you really deconstruct it, Eve is just in so much pain… and all of that came through even in the darkest of scenes.  And … there is yet more to come!

Kudos to Maurice and Kassie for being named Michael Fairman TV’s “Power Performances of the Week”.
