It was a good day for many series on the ABC Television Network who received their primetime renewals for another season. First off #TGIT drama line-up of Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal and How to Get Away with Murder all will be retuurning.  For ‘Grey’s’ it will be its 13th season, and for Scandal its 6th, while HTGAWM will serve up its 3rd.

In addition, the network handed out pick-ups to Once Upon A Time, Quantico, The Goldbergs,  and Fresh Off The Boat.  These shows join already announced returns of: black-ish, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., The Middle, Modern Family, Shark Tank, The Bachelor, Dancing with the Stars, and America’s Funniest Home Videos.

However, fans of several shows are waiting to see if there favorite series gets the axe, or will live to see another day!  Chief among them is the Music City soap opera, Nashville and Nathan Fillion’s Castle.  Both have yet to get confirmation along with Last Man Standing, Dr. Ken and The Muppets, and also American Crime, Galavant and Agent Carter.

So, which shows are you glad are returning fo another season?  Do you think Nashville and Castle will live to see another day? Share your thoughts in the comment section below!

Am a fan of both shows but have to admit they have become formulaic of late, especially Castle. It’s really the likeability of the actors on both shows that keep them going. The writing not so much.

Nashville is imo the best on ABC. I can’t believe it is in jeopardy.

Not looking good for castle, this might be the last season. Nashville is always on the bubble, they never get high ratings. ABC SHOULD cancel Nashville, and renew Castle.

I want Castle back no doubt. Love that show

I predict..
Both, NASHVILLE and CASTLE will not be renewed, this will their last season..

Dastle had a great run!

Nashville hard horrible music and catered to country music lovers..

It was about country music–if you didn’t like that kind of music you shouldn’t have watched it. and for those of us who like American, roots and country, T Bone Burnett and later Buddy Miller have done a great job. If there was a soap called La Scala would you complain that it catered to opera fans?

auto correct is biased as well: tried to type Americana

It’s a great show west virginia fan. I LOVE the music! But then again, there’s been such a cross over between a lot of music genres Keith Urban, Rascall Flatt, Jennifer Nettles, Luke Bryan, Dierks Bentley, Jake Owen, Hunter Hayes, The Band Perry…on and on…even Steven Tyler and Darius Rucker have dug in their heels…so to speak. :/ But they’re not really old school…

I must admit I’m not a fan of old country…when it was stictly country music. But I’ve come to appreciate Willy Nelson and of course Johnny Cash (did you ever see Walk the Line with Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon? Fantastic film!) But I digress…

I say this each season that Nashville’s fate is undecided. I soooo hope it’s renewed. Such a great show from characters to relationships to music. One of my favs!

hi west virgina fan..
exactly.. it catered to a group of people…
I liked some of the stories but had need to FF through the songs after a minute or less, usually less lol..
The woman with long long hair and cut it all off , her songs all sounded the same, different words but same song lol..

thing is; Nashville was not a series for everyone, mainly because of the terrible music lol .. so it had more-so of a selected audience which will lead to its cancellation imo.

((Empire is 100 times better lol)

I think the show’s biggest problem was its lack of long term story and inability to write for the bad guys who actually drove story. Killing off Juliet’s train wreck mama, Rayna’s sneaky dad, and Gunnar’s shady brother were huge mistakes because those characters could have generated story and been woven into several stories. It always feels like half the show wants to be a traditional soap with country music and the other half wants to avoid the soap label at all costs. Such a waste of potential because the cast is very good but is done in by the lack of a clear vision for the show’s identity.

The one area that I think Nashville succeeds is in its use of music — Nashville tends to weave it in pretty effortlessly while Empire makes every plot center on the music which is boring and ultimately very one note in its storytelling which is why I dropped that show as well.

”Castle””

I really would be up set to see Nashville and Castle not returning. They are my favorite shows.

Glad the Thursday line up is safe, but really want to hear Castle and Nashville included in this group, too. As for the others, I couldn’t care.

Glad to see Quantico, Scandal, How To Get Away With Murder, and The Middle are returning. ABC should renew American Crime which has been amazing this season. It’s time to cancel Nashville — I’ve always been amazed that show got a second season.

Love Nashville and Agent Carter and Castle shoulld have on e more season

When ABC canned AMC & OLTL, I decided the only ABC show I’d continue to watch is GH. So, no interest here in what happens to rest of their shows.

I sure hope Nashville is given another season. I do enjoy the characters and I love country music, but with shake-up at the top of ABC, I fear the worst. If Nashville is cancelled, maybe Jonathan Jackson will return to GH as Lucky Spencer. Then again, who knows if the new ABC big shots intend on keeping GH around!

I really hope Nashville gets renewed.

What is wrong with ABC??? Nashville is the best show on the air and it hasn’t been renewed yet!!! Make me want to give up all ABC shows if not renewed!

Half hour sitcoms sell really well in syndication. Hour long shows have a steeper hill to climb. A show like Nashville isnt popular enough to do well in syndication. It might be what is holding up their decision.

I read somewhere that abc wants more comedies in the future than continuing dramas because shows that are serialized are harder to sell into syndication…and i doubt they will ever do a new daytime soap-so watch whats out there before they are gone.

JUST WHAT WE NEED…MORE COMEDIES!! THE NASHVILLE CAST IS EXCELLENT…..I AM ONE THAT HOPES IT WILL BE PICKED UP.

I havent watched that one but if it does get picked up ill start watching it…i love continuing dramas!

jimh…Nashville is fantastic. It’s really got everything…great characters, intertwined stories and very good music. It’s not drama per se in that it’s always “heavy”. But it’s just one of the shows where you kinda get caught up in the people and just wish you were there. (lol, or maybe that’s just me but while watching I get caught up in the Nashville aura…

Jimh…I guess it’s what networks consider comedy, and that usually involves hopefully increasing ratings and higher advertising $s. But from what I’ve seen from promos, I haven’t seen any that were my idea of funny. Except Big Bang Theory…and I’m wondering about it’s future because it’s lost some of it’s magic. As far as the others, they seem to be a variation of the reality shows…dumbing down to the lowest common denominator. Guess they are having trouble finding good comedy writers like soaps are for soap writers, or they don’t want to invest the $’s or take a risk with writers who aren’t always putting people down.

Hi Rose..

With the exception of ‘ Big Bang Theory , there has not been a good comedy series since Seinfeld..
The ones airing now have way too much silly stupid in them..

Actually Black-ish is betond hilarious…and though I don’t regularly watch The Goldbergs I just recently caught one episide and it wad actually pretty funny.

Comedies ? If fresh off the boat is a comedy, we are in trouble. Its re- newed. Last man Standing is funny, will hope its renewed. Nashvile I like I like country music, and even Castle can be good. we watch Quanico, but can take it or leave it. Castle is ok. ABC is the worst network, all they want is money, and they don’t care if we like what they throw at us. Renewed Dancing with the stars Last year I shut that off. We all watch what we like. I don’t watch any of the others.GH included.

I’ve watched Castle from the beginning (plus re-runs late every Saturday night) and would hate to see the show go, but I won’t be surprised. I believe it’s reached the end. Some of the stories are kinda dumb now.
I gave up Nashville during season 3 simply because I had too many shows to watch and could no longer keep up. It was an OK show, but I would think that too would have reached the end of good stories.
I also gave up OUAT after season 3. For me it was just too much with too many characters and stories intertwining that didn’t/shouldn’t intertwine. It should have been canceled after season 2.
MY opinions!

Couldn’t agree with you more about OUAT. Shocked it was not cancelled awhile ago. It’s become an extended commercial for Disney characters. Has lost all of it’s originality.

I love Nashville and I hope it has, at least, one more season. I would like to see Rayna and Deacon build the music company up and end on a great note!

Cancel OUAT, it is so bloated and only survives for Disney to feed their own characters. Nashvile has had a bad time of it but I like how the stories evolved so far and would like to see one more season. I lost interest in Castle years ago.Too formulaic. TGIT is the best block of shows on TV but I also lost interest in Grey’s years ago. Replace it with anothe Shondra show and move it back to Sunday night.

I’ve watched every episode of Castle and have all of the DVDs. One of the few shows I still watch. Would hate to see it go… 🙁

We love Nashville, so we want to see it renewed. We don’t even like country music, but we love the music on the show.

American Crime is the best show on television right now, so it should be renewed. We just discovered it and so wish we had seen the first season.

Castle feels over. Love the actors, but it just feels like it is running out of gas.

As Long As OUAT and MF is still on the air, we will be alright! Also what is the big deal with Nashville anyway? It’s not the best show in the world, if fact, I’m surprise it’s still on the air!

Two of my favorite shows! I’d be really upset if they don’t return!

Hayden Panettiere Reveals Filming ‘Nashville’ was ‘Traumatizing’; Writers Used Her Personal Struggles with Addiction, Postpartum as Storylines

Nashville and former Guiding Light star, Hayden Panettiere (ex-Lizzie, GL) opened up about her final seasons on the ABC country music primetime drama, where the show touched too close to home for the actress who played lead character, Juliette Barnes.

In an interview with The Messenger, Hayden shared that during the run of the show from 2012-2018, she feels that the writers, more often that not, pulled from her real life while crafting Juliette’s storylines.

Hayden said on the years she spent filming the series that it was “also very traumatizing because I felt like I was acting out my own life.”

Photo: JPI

Previously, the actress had shared that her dependency on alcohol and opioids as a teenager led to her dependency in her adult life. In addition, Nashville told the story of Juliette’s postpartum depression, which also mirrored Panettiere’s experience who went through the same thing when her own daughter was born.

Explaining what went down behind the scenes, Hayden recalled: “Straight from the beginning, it was like, I’m dating a football player, (and then) Juliette dates a football player. And then they turned her into an alcoholic. Then they turned to her leaving her daughter and going to this crazy (place) in Europe, and it was very obvious.”

The actress added, ‘They weren’t doing their homework. They weren’t creating new storylines. They were just looking at my life and going, ‘Oh, let’s just take what she’s going through and put our little spin on it.’ And then, ta-da! It’s done and done.”

Photo: JPI

Hayden added that she didn’t have time to care of herself and the pain she was going through physically and emotionally, so she tried to watch mindless TV and shows to help her calm down. Panettiere also felt that when she knew she had to go back to the set of Nashville, she did, “anything to keep my mind off of that because I knew that next day I was going to be back at it again. I was like, tear central. I don’t even think on a soap opera that I cried as much (as I did) on Nashville.”

Hayden is set to make three upcoming appearances of her A Conversation With Hayden Panettiere live series in New York on February 23 and Washington D.C. on February 24.

So, do you think the Nashville writers literally stole creative ideas for the character of Juliette Barnes based on Hayden’s personal struggles? It certainly on paper seems so. Share your thoughts via the comment section below.
