It’s hard to believe its almost the end of the year, one more month to go soapers! And it has been a very difficult year for any one connected with the soap genre and for you, its loyal fans.  However, ABC Soaps In Depth has on newstands now its year end issue! And in it it, they ask some of the ABC Daytime performers, what was their favorite storyline of the year? And, what performance do you think was a standout on your show during the year?

You can check out the responses from many AMC cast members including Vincent Irizarry, Michael Knight, Darnell Williams, GH cast members including Lisa LoCiero, Maurice Benard, Bradford Anderson and OLTL stars, Josh Kelly, Kristen Alderson and Kassie DePaiva!

But the one response that captured our fancy was from One Life’s Farah Fath (Gigi) who had this to say about what performance she felt stood out on her show this year.  Farah stated,  “I’ll tell you who my favorite breakout star has been. His name is Patrick J. Gibbons, and he plays Sam. He is such a scene stealer. He is gonna be a huge star. OLTL broke the mold when they found this little guy. He makes me so happy, Every time he’s in a scene, I have to rewind and watch it like, five times. He is just tremendous. I love him and I think he should be in every scene and I think every show should book him. He’s the breakout star for 2011.”

And who doesn’t love little Sam!

Sam is cute, I think he’s funny and loved watching his scenes especially with Todd. Too bad we haven’t seen him much since the summer.

Farah is spot on! Sam/Patrick J. Gibbons does steal every scene that he is in, and he also always makes me smile. He is adorable and so real. What a find he is, it is just too bad that we will not be seeing much more of him on ABC Daytime, along with all of his wonderful costars. I am sure another soap will try to recruit him (sad that no other soaps film in NY any longer, where I am sure he and his family live), and would be lucky to get him. He truly is a scene stealer, and I could not agree with Farah more.

Yes, he always made me smile too, even when I didn’t feel like it because of the cancellation. I couldn’t stop myself.

He is irresistibly cute. I couldn’t believe how much I enjoyed Spider Man rescuing Dorian from Echo. In another scene, Blair brought Sam to Tea’s house, and Sam presented Tea with a picture he drew of his father Victor and Tea together, after Victor had died. It was touching and heartfelt.

I love the Sam scenes you mentioned as well David! I also enjoy the dynamic between Sam and Todd. It is nice to see the soft side of Todd when he interacts with Sam, and the fondness Sam has for Todd aka Man with the Scar”.

CW’s Batwoman TV Series Looking For Out Lesbian Actress To Play Title Role

In some intriguing casting news, the upcoming Batwoman series currently in development for The CW will feature TV’s first gay superhero character that is a series lead.

But on top of that, news today via TVLine has that the series is seeking an out lesbian actress to play the title role of Batwoman aka Kate Kane.  They are looking for an actress ages 25-29 of any ethnicity.

As to the log lines of the series, here’s what was released: “A wealthy socialite who calls Gotham home, Batwoman’s Kate Kane is described as ‘armed with a passion for social justice and a flair for speaking her mind,’ while physically she is a ‘highly trained street fighter primed to snuff out the failing city’s criminal resurgence.’ But don’t call her a hero yet.  In a city desperate for a savior, Kate must overcome her own demons before embracing the call to be Gotham’s symbol of hope.”

Look for Berlanti Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television to helm the development deal.  Caroline Dries, an out lesbian, will be the head writer. She is best known for her work on The Vampire Diaries.

Batwoman/ Kate Kane will be first seen this fall in a four-way crossover event between ArrowThe FlashSupergirl and Legends of Tomorrow with the goal for the character to land her own series.

So, which lesbian actress should play CW’s LGBT super hero? Share your suggestions and thoughts in the comment section below.

Vinessa Antoine Reveals She And General Hospital Have Parted Ways; After Landing Primetime Series Lead

After the fantastic bit of casting news for actress Vinessa Antoine  (Jordan Ashford) over the weekend, today, via her social media accounts, Vinessa has addressed her future with General Hospital.

As viewers know, Vinessa has been cast as the drama series lead in the new CBC production of Diggstown, and it is groundbreaking making her the first black actress to star in a series on the legendary Canadian broadcasting network,   Originally it was presumed that Antoine would go recurring on GH, while she was away filming, but that is not the case as she revealed in her heartfelt message today.  She and GH have mutually parted ways.

Vinessa’s statement: “There are so many people that God put into place who are directly and indirectly responsible for my time at General Hospital.  You know who you are. I thank you. I came into this world as an artist. My job is to create and inspire. I hope that I did that a little in playing #JordanAshford.

I believe that I have taken her as far as I can.  To clarify, as negotiations for #Diggstown were underway, although I am open to stay and play in Port Charles, I was told by my reps that GeneralHospital felt that my character would be off the canvas for too long for me to continue playing her.

With that, we decided to mutually part ways.  It’s time to make room for more women of color in prominent roles on television. I’m grateful to assist in that by starting this new chapter in my journey. I hope you’ll all come along. I feel blessed. Be well. xo”

An ABC rep told Soap Opera Digest that the role of Jordan is being recast.

So what do you think of Vinessa leaving GH for good? Share your thoughts via the comment section below and let’s wish her much success!
