Agnes Nixon Highly-Anticipated Memoir MY LIFE TO LIVE Now Available Nationwide!

The iconic late creator of All My Children and One Life to Life, Agnes Nixon, has finally had her memoir released in bookstores and online nationwide.

Tuesday, March 21st was the release date of My Life to Live: How I Became The Queen of the Soaps When Men Rules The Airwaves.

Nixon put the finishing touches on her book shortly before her passing last year. You can check it out for purchase here at Amazon.com.  According to the publisher Penguin Random House Books notes: My Life to Live details Agnes’ trailblazing rise to the top of the television industry, including behind-the-scenes stories from some of the most beloved soaps of all time. Before there was Erica Kane, Adam Chandler, or Victoria Lord, there was Agnes Nixon, a young girl who dreamed up stories for paper dolls. Those tales she imagined–ones filled with ambitions, rivalries, and romances–would soon parallel her own path to success. In a memoir filled with as much drama as the soaps she penned, Nixon shares her journey from Nashville to New York City, as she overcomes the loss of her fiancé in World War II, a father intent on crushing her writing dreams, and the jealousy of her male colleagues on her way to becoming one of the most successful names in television.

While fans will delight in Nixon’s own incredible life, they will also love her behind-the-scenes insight into her most popular shows. Inside, she shares the inspiration for Erica Kane and how she cast Susan Lucci in the role; an excerpt from the never-before-seen All My Children story bible; entertaining anecdotes about her shows’ beloved casts and special guests, including Carol Burnett, Kelly Ripa, Oprah Winfrey, and Warren Buffett; and more.

My Life to Live is also a portrait of a pioneer. Driven to use her ratings power for good, Nixon fought and broke network taboos by wrestling with controversial social issues ranging from women’s health, interracial relationships, and the Vietnam War to drug addiction, LGBT rights, and AIDS. By infusing her characters with sensitivity, humor, and humanity, she enabled millions to examine an opposite point of view. And long before Shonda Rhimes launched a golden age of female showrunners, Agnes Nixon positioned ABC to become the media giant it is today. She is a true television legend, and her candid and inspiring glimpse behind the curtain of the television industry will charm soap fans and story lovers alike.

So, AMC and OLTL fans, will you be picking up your copy of Agnes’ memoir? Comment below

I pre-ordered this book on Amazon and it arrived at home Tuesday. I cannot wait to read it! I greatly enjoyed a Bill Bell biography not too long ago, as well as those penned by Jeanne Cooper, Susan Lucci, and Kim Zimmer. I have to get Eric Braeden’s and I have Thaao Penghlis’ story in my Kindle waiting.

Daytime drama is a rich wonderful genre of entertainment, too often maligned by those calling themselves high brow. I remain disappointed so many of our wonderful shows are now memories.

God Bless her. Agnes Nixon completely changed the face of daytime TV with our beloved One Life to Live and All My Children. She gave us young, strong innovative characters, contemporary stories, class and humor. She was a true pioneer in ever sense of the word. How Ms. Nixon and our beloved shows are missed. I’m ordering my copy of her book today.

All My Children Alum Cornelius Smith Jr. Joins the Cast of Apple TV+ Limited Series, ‘Five Days At Memorial’

Daytime fans remember him fondly as the son of Jesse (Darnell Williams) and Angie Hubbard (Debbi Morgan), Frankie, on All My Children.  And now, actor Cornelius Smith Jr., is set to join a major limited series based on the acclaimed nonfiction book by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Sheri Fink, about the the first five days following Hurricane Katrina made landfall entitled Five Days at Memorial.

Written by John Ridley and Carlton Cruse, Smith will play a doctor, (something he is very familiar with playing since Frankie Hubbard was a doctor in Pine Valley!) named Dr. Bryant King, an internist and one of the few doctors of color at the hospital, who finds himself very much in the middle of the crisis.  He will headline the show alongside Vera Farmiga and Adepero Oduye.

Deadline broke the casting news.

So, looking forward to seeing Cornelius back on our screens? Do you remember his work as Dr. Frankie Hubbard on All My Children? Comment below.
