Big news this evening regarding Days of our Lives long time fan favorite Alison Sweeney. After 13 seasons, Sweeney has decided to call it quits as host of the weight-loss competition, The Biggest Loser.  The news came via an official statement from the NBC series producers first revealed at Access Hollywood.

The brief statement read:  “After an incredible run together, Alison Sweeney will not be returning as host of  The Biggest Loser next season.”

Alison began appearing on the show in 2007, following comedian Caroline Rhea.   At the moment, no replacement has been chosen, and the show’s 17th season does not yet have a premiere date.

As fans of DAYS know, Alison will be back on the canvas reprising her role of Sami Brady during the show’s upcoming 50th anniversary season which kicks-off this November.  Previously back in 2014, Alison announced her departure from Days of our Lives after a nearly twenty-two year run to focus on her other shows and specials, and to be able to spend more time raising her two children.

With her exiting The Biggest Loser, could this possibly pave the way for Sweeney’s stay in Salem to end up being longer than anticipated?

Just the thought gives me hope. I love AS. I am not sure she will ever have the same chemistry as she had with James Scott (EJ). I love DOOL and am so happy with all of the positive buzz. I invite EVERYONE who watched the show back in the 80s and 90s to tune in again. Patch, Bo, Belle, Shawn-Douglas and Phillip is a huge step in the right direction.

I hope she stays in Salem and gets a meaty story, but DO NOT age Allie, Johnny or Sydney!!!!!!! Put her back together with Rafe!!!!

Richard,

I really do not think she had chemistry with Rafe… I know they are going to try to make a go of it with Hope and Rafe…I see the writing on the wall, but I don’t see that either.

Sometimes stars get exhausted doing the same thing over and over for yrs, then get a taste of the difficulty snagging a great role in the industry and realize it’s not all that….

Maybe she has come to the conclusion that DOOL was and is Home ?

MIss the EJ and Sammi drama

I hope Alison comes back to days full time. We need Sami Brady back, sign Alison To a long term contract and bring back EJ Dimera too.

This exiting news sounds promising. I’m sure Alison’s heart of hearts is in her DAYS family. I bet she was made an excellent offer to return to DAYS, and probably decided to part ways with Biggest Loser. I’m just hoping we will hear soon that Alison Sweeney is returning to DAYS full-time with a multi-year contract in hand. I think she got an offer she couldn’t refuse. hahaha

I think I would trade Bo and Steve for an Alison. 🙂

Her stay at Salem becoming longer would be awesome

I loved her on BL but she belongs on Days and if she had to pick, well, she made the right choice.

Sami needs to come home! And bring a resurrected EJ with her…although that wouldn’t be James Scott, unfortunately. The show lost it’s spark when those two characters left.

I’m hoping the new writers will be able to turn this ship around somehow, and bringing Alison/Sami back would be a great start.

Surprised to hear this. Was it her choice?

i’ll play the devil advocate?

ratings for “biggest loser” were down 30%

that’s enough to let go of show’ host

“I haven’t missed Sami” I am glad DAYS is bringing back many vets plus their kids…

If she was to come back… I wonder if Michael Muhney could spark with her? as some have posted… Y&R owns Sony… couldn’t they just hire him ? and let bygones be? He would be such a strong DiMera…. have Sammi and Eve fighting… this stuff with Eve and Jennifer has lost all it’s lame… dull… and is continually DOA

Nah. Rumors have him being a recast Lucky Spencer on GH.

yeah, I really don’t see Michael Muhney coming to GH as a Lucky recast. I really don’t see the show bringing back Lucky especially since Jonathan Jackson just played him briefly. Though, I do see MM joining GH as a Quartermaine recast.

@ Patrick, it would be so cool to have Michael Muhney as the new EJ Dimera. I would love to see that happen!!!

If she comes back to DAYS to stay, two episodes per week would be plenty. There’s no need for overkill. I didn’t sign up for The Sami Show. No character should be featured so damn much.

THE BIGGEST LOSER may have been a boon for Ms. Sweeney but the show’s buzzlife is past. I want to see her act more and I read here, I think, she is directing.

I miss her on DOOL and am looking forward to her return for the anniversary celebration.

AS is doing a lot with Hallmark channel too. She has great chemistry with Cameron Mathison

It would be nice to see Sami in Salem every now and then. Alison is also working on projects for Hallmark, time may be in short supply for her to be in Salem. But a recurring role as Sami might fit nicely into Alison’s schedule.

For years I thought it was Sami overkill but seeing as how they’ve replaced her with Teresa who is infinitely more obnoxious than Sami, I will gladly take Sami back!

Even when we hated Sami the most, we could see her motives. We never saw her character high-fiving another character (like Theresa does with Anne). I love Theresa and have said for more than a year she is the new Sami. But, I am still waiting for her to show us she has feelings. I think there has been so many opportunities for the writers to show us that she is not that tough on the inside. But, everytime you would think she has learned her lesson, she gets a snide smile that does not give her ANY rooting value. I think Jen Lilly is a powerhouse actress and hope to see her name in the nominations at the next Daytime Emmy Awards. But first, I would like to see some redemption to her character.

I don’t blame her for leaving BL, I stopped watching when the show went from inspiring others to be their best to fat shaming and humiliation. As a viewer I couldn’t stand them making me feel I was worse than a mass murderer just because I put a cookie in my mouth. Frankly the show has passed its shelf life and should be cancel. If her leaving puts the last nail in the coffin of this show then I say good, her leaving it did us all a favor. Maybe now those people who need to lose weight can get proper help instead of being exploited for network profits.

Franco LoPresti and Sydney Malakeh Makes Their ‘Days of our Lives’ Debuts: What Were Your First Impressions?

Franco LoPresti and Sydney Malakeh

Days of our Lives fans were introduced on the Monday, September 14 episode to Dante Vitali in the form of actor Franco LoPresti, and reintroduced to Sydney DiMera as now played by Sydney Malakeh.

The DAYS writers connected the story by having them as major participants in a high stakes poker game in Monte Carlo where Philip (John-Paul Lavoisier) with Gabi (Cherie Jimenez) by his side, are trying to win enough money to save Titan Industries and the Kiriakis legacy.

When we first meet Sydney she is in front of a mirror putting on her lipstick as she puts the finishing touches on her look for the evening, when she receives a call from her grandmother, Marlena Evans (Deidre Hall).

POKER FACE

Later, Sydney shows up at the poker game with Dante Vitali, who introduces himself as Sami Brady’s fiancé. Philip explains that he has his own connections to Sami and would prefer his presence in the game be kept under wraps. Dante tells Philip he does not keep secrets from Sami.

Gabi asked Dante about his connection to Ava Vitali, to which Dante shared that although they shared the same last name, they were not close. Gabi says that’s good because Ava is “bonkers.” Dante did not appreciate Gabi disparaging Ava in that manner.

Philip is shocked that Sydney is such a poker player. Then we get the backstory on how she learned a lot from her grandfather, Roman Brady, and when she went to school, she played poker to beat the mean girls and realized she was quite good at it.

In the end, after throwing one guy out named “Otto”, who was “cheating” in the game, Dante offered two additional hands to Philip with a new deck. Dante asks,“Winner take all?” Philip says, “Works for me.” Eventually, Philip won the hand, but alone with Gabi told her he did not win enough to save Titan.

DID MARLENA GIVE BIRTH TO STEFANO’S SON?

As all this is going down, in Salem, Marlena is wistful worried that there is something she has blocked out in her memories from her time being kidnapped by Stefano. She tells this to a concerned Julie (Susan Seaforth Hayes).

Meanwhile, Belle (Martha Madison), Chad (Conner Floyd) and EJ (Dan Feuerriegel) have all made it to Italy, and find hidden in a replicate chess set, just like Stefano willed to John and Marlena, a photo of Stefano with a young boy dated 1992 with whom they believe is “Dominic Marino.”

At the end of the episode, Dante shows up to a room with the mystery person wearing Stefano’s ring. He assures the person that no matter how many chips Philip won, he would not be able to save Titan and the Kiriakis mansion. Then, Dante utters, “Well, played, Dom.”

So, what’s going on here? Is Dante a bad guy? Is Sydney a schemer? Did Marlena have Stefano’s son, named Dominic Marino, but blocked the whole thing out for decades? And, what were your first impressions of the highly-anticipated debuts of Franco LoPresti and Sydney Malakeh? Weigh-in via the comment section. But first, in case you missed, check out this week’s promo for Days of our Lives below.

‘Heated Rivalry’ Star Franco LoPresti Opens Up About ‘Days of our Lives’ Debut as Dante Vitali

Published

Next week on Monday, September 14 will mark the first appearance in Salem of Franco LoPresti in his new Days of our Lives role of Dante Vitali.

Heated Rivalry fans now LoPresti very well from his part as hockey player Cliff Marleau in the series first season. (No word yet if Cliff appears in season 2).

Now in a conversation with TV Insider, DAYS fans will learn that LoPresti is on the soap for a limited run. No timetable was given.

When LoPresti does burst onto the scene come Monday, Dante makes quite the impact as Franco LoPresti explains. It seems that viewers will first see him in scenes in Monte Carlo at a poker table with none other than Gabi Hernandez (Cherie Jimenez) and Philip Kiriakis (John-Paul Lavoisier).  However, Dante will come to Salem to talk to the Brady family about his supposed fiancée Sami Brady (Alison Sweeney).

Franco shared, “Dante was born and grew up in Italy and educated at this pretty top-tier English boarding school. He then went on to build his own dynasty in finance, all the while trying to distance himself from the Vitali name (as viewers know Tamara Braun played his cousin Ava Vitali).”

“But at the core of Dante, there’s definitely an old-school quality to him”, continued LoPresti. “He’s super passionate, he’s sincere and incredibly generous, but he’s also someone that you probably shouldn’t underestimate. Loyalty is something that means a lot to him. As Dante enters Salem, I think the audience will get to slowly peel back those layers and discover what’s really driving him. So, I’m excited for Days fans to go on that ride with Dante.”

As it turns out, LoPresti taped his episodes of DAYS starting back in November 2025 which happened to be weeks before Heated Rivalry became a smash hit.

Franco recalled, “It’s so funny because I thought my episodes would air in a month (on Days of our Lives). But I found out it was nine to 10 months and I was like, ‘I gotta wait that long?!’ So, I’ve been biting my nails, trying not to think about it, and I think it’s actually kind of helped because now it’s here and it’s all coming at me from all different angles. I’m nervous. I’m excited, and I just can’t wait to see it all come together. It’s one of the best jobs I’ve ever had for sure.”

In his personal life, Franco just had his first child with wife, actress Emily Alatalo, just a weeks ago on August 23rd when they welcomed their daughter, Stella into the world.

So, looking forward to seeing Franco LoPresti’s debut come Monday? What do you think about the fact that it’s being reported as a limited run? Do you think Dante and Sami have a chance on-screen or off-screen to be a happy couple? What do you really think brings Dante to Salem sans Sami?
