Soap icon, Andrea Evans who is currently back causing trouble as trash talking Tawny Moore on The Bold and the Beautiful chatted with TV Guide Canada’s Nelson Branco about her career in soaps as a vixen; most notably as Tina Lord Roberts on One Life to Live. The piece also takes a look through images of the  daytime career of Evans.   Here are a few excerpts from the conversation on a myriad of subjects!

Andrea on if Tawny’s will get a love life on B&B: “I’d love a little romance for Tawny but you know I couldn’t tell you even if I knew! You know who I’m loving working with? The guy who plays Carl, Sean Whalen. We haven’t had a lot of scenes together but he’s been really great.”

Andrea on why she felt she has never won a Daytime Emmy: “Tina was a fabulous, once-in-a-lifetime role but I never had the material that won people Emmys. That was part of the problem because there are storylines that would guarantee you Emmys and give you a chance to shine within that medium. Quite often the diva, glamorous-type characters never win the Emmy.”

Andrea on being part of soaps golden-era of the 80’s when there were huge budgets and ratings as compared to now: ” They talk about what a big hits American Idol and Dancing With the Stars are but we got much bigger numbers back in the day. There was only so much to watch on TV with three networks that soaps were a different entity, so yeah, there was tons of money coming in for stunts, locations, and different things. But I think soaps have become more what they originally started out to be, and had to be brought back to what they were because they did get really big and flashy. Like the shoulder pads. Now they’re back to being good, solid entertainment that you tune in to watch. I think that’s what we have now and I think that’s how soaps have survived.”

Drew Barrymore Daytime Talker A Go: Set For Launch 2020

CBS Television Distribution is getting more into the daytime talk show arena, with their first series of that kind in quite some time, after confirming that Drew Barrymore will indeed have a daytime talk show that now will premiere in the fall of 2020.

The new syndicated talk show has already had CBS Television Stations signing on as the first station group around the country to carry the show. New York and Los Angeles are on-board as two key heavyweight markets.

According to Deadline: the pickup for Barrymore’s talker came rather quickly just two months after she shot the pilot for it in the Big Apple.

The decision to move forward with Drew’s new show comes on the heels of a strong showing by NBC Universal’s new daytime talker, The Kelly Clarkson Show and the good start for Disney’s Tamron Hall Show.

As to where in the day-part the syndicated series hosted by Barrymore might fall in your daily viewing schedule is yet to be determined.

With solid ratings for Kelly Clarkson, Tamron Hall, and a new Barrymore talk series on the way; do you think it signifies more trouble ahead for your daytime soap operas in the long-run, or will everyone be able to have their slots and retain their audience and co-exist happily ever-after? Share your theories via the comment section below.
