Anna Marie Horsford and Obba Babatundé Join The Bold and the Beautiful As Maya's Parents!

The Maya Avant (Karla Mosley) story is far, far from over on The Bold and the Beautiful.   News on Thursday from TV Insider is that none other than Anna Marie Horsford and Obba Babatundé have joined the CBS daytime drama series as Maya’s disapproving parents, when they come to town to visit their youngest daughter, Nicole (Reign Edwards) and try to get her out of Lala land and away from Maya! Horsford is set for her debut on July 3rd with Babatundé set to arrive on the July 9th episode – their characters of Vivienne and Julius Avant – both are on-board for at least 15 episodes, but they may be sticking around a lot longer!

The actors are no strangers to daytime drama audiences with Obba having appeared in roles on All My Children, One Life to Live and Y&R, while Horsford began her career on Guiding Light.  Both are extremely well-known Broadway and TV and film actors with quite the impressive resumes.

Anna Marie related on the telling of Maya’s story and being a part of  one of the social issues of the day on television:  “This reunion of the Avant family has opened my heart on so many levels.  I personally know several transgender people but I never really thought of things from the parents’ perspective. The audience has heard Maya’s point of view about what went on in the family. Now it’s time to get Mom and Dad’s side of things! Maya may think her parents never loved her, but that’s her perception.”

And as for Obba, he revealed that when Maya’s folks cast their eyes on her: “Their first encounter after all this time is incredibly powerful. And then [later] they see this new person in the glory of her new world at Forrester Creations and she is absolutely astounding! But how does a father handle that?”

In addition Horsford weighed-in on an additional side to this storyline:  “Gay and transgender subjects are not comfortably discussed in the African-American community. “We might see that our children are different but we don’t tell anybody about it.”

What do you think about the casting of Horsford and Babatunde’ to The Bold and the Beautiful as Maya’s parents?  What are your thoughts about the CBS daytime soap opera exploring all aspects of Maya’s story?  Share your thoughts below!

OMG I loved Thelma on “Amen” in the 1980’s.

Bet they will tap into that sanctimonious bible condemnation most people from the dark ages seem to rely on these days.

I am ecstatic about these two tremendous veteran actors of stage film and television joining Bold and The Beautiful. The depth of telling this story from our African American perspective if written correctly will be incredible!

Andy Kaufman to be Inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame

The late comedian, Andy Kaufman has been announced as an inductee into the WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2023.

Kaufman, who was best-know as Latka Gravas in the hit sitcom Taxi from 1978-1983, loved pro wrestling and used it in a gimmick quite often in his comedy routine including several times on Saturday Night Live.

Andy eventually declared himself the ‘Inter-Gender Wrestling Champion of the World’, offering money to any woman who could pin him as part of his act.  This led to a feud with fellow WWE Hall of Famer, Jerry “The King” Lawler.

As the ruse continued, Lawler and Kaufman convinced the audience they were bitter enemies. Some of the highlights of their faux feud included: Kaufman claiming that Lawler broke his neck when Lawler performed a piledriver on him, and the two trading insults on Late Night with David Letterman before Lawler slapped Kaufman, knocking Andy out of his chair.

Lynne Margulies, Kaufman’s partner, even received a book deal over the antics. It was called Dear Any Kaufman, I Hate Your Guts.  The contents were from a compilation of hate mail, Andy received from the women he challenged to wrestle on Saturday Night Live.

Sadly, Kaufman died from lung cancer and was never a smoker back in 1984.  He was only 34-years-old.

In an ironic twist to the upcoming ceremony, Lawler recently suffered another stroke back in February of this year, and while he would be the perfect choice to induct Hoffman into the Hall of Fame, it is unclear at this time if he would even be able to.

Kaufman joins Rey Mysterio Jr. and The Great Muta as the class of 2023 thus far.

The Hall of Fame ceremonies that will stream live on Peacock direct from Los Angeles on March 31st, the night before Wrestlemania 39 begins.

Check out two of Andy’s matches – one against a woman from Memphis Wrestling and one from his battles with Jerry Lawler.

So, what do you think about Andy Kaufman being inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame? Share your thoughts in the comment section.
