As the World Turns Cast To Perform Virtual Reading Of Final Episode

Photo; JPI

In a once-in-a soap-lifetime event during the Covid-19 pandemic, the cast of As the World Turns will reunite for one night online for a virtual reading of the CBS daytime drama’s final episode that aired back 10 years ago this past September,

This livestream event is for a good cause and is brought to you by former ATWT cast member, Trent Dawson’s (Ex-Henry) theatre group The Katonah Classic Stage.  Dawson is the artistic director there.

Over 26 veteran cast members from ATWT, including Larry Bryggman, Don Hastings, Kathryn Hays, Elizabeth Hubbard, Michael Park and more are set to participate in the reading plus some surprise guests.

The show will be streamed  n The Locher Room YouTube channel, 0n Wednesday night, October 28th at 8 p.m. EST/5 p.m. PST, where fans will also  have the opportunity to comment and ask questions of the cast,

The event is asking for a $15 donation to be able to see it and you can click here for more info!

Working with Katonah Classic Stage (KCS), a professional, nonprofit theatre group an hour north from New York City, Dawson is hoping this event will help those in need.  KCS has access to outdoor performance space that can provide a safer, more  socially-distant experience for the artists and the audience. The fundraiser not only  applies to salaries, but to health care as well; without employment most artists are ineligible for health coverage during a time when such insurance is critically important.

So what do you think of getting these beloved stars from ATWT together for a good cause to relive and read the script of the final episode from Oakdale? Comment below.

Will Eileen Fulton be participating to say the measly two lines of dialogue that Jean Passanante so “generously” gave her???

We (and EF) were probably supposed to be grateful Lisa got even those two lines, Barbara. I read somewhere that Chris Goutman said there were other Lisa scenes taped that got cut, but nobody has seen them, if so.

I must say, though I think it’s a worthy cause and applaud the effort, that the final show would not have been the script I chose to re-create. Oh well. I wish them luck and success.

I can’t wait. Really was so sad when this went off the air.

I am very disappointed. Couldnt get in to view. I thought the link would take me right to the show, but it didn’t. Well, I hope I’ve contributed to a worthy cause, as the virtual viewing was the main reason I sent money. Next time, you really need to explain how to get in, and make it easy for tech dummies.

What’s going on with the ATWT cast now? I’m really saddened that the show got canceled. I watched ATWT every since my childhood.

Lots have moved on to other career paths and acting gigs, etc. And some have enjoyed quite time out of the spotlight it seems.

Well that’s understandable. I wonder if they miss seeing each other. That was probably a silly question.

As the World Turns Alum Rita Walter Dead at 71

We’re still losing so many beloved soap opera actors as 2022 comes to a close. Now comes word that former As the World Turns alum, Rita Walter (nee McLaughlin) passed away at the age of 71.  Walter had been diagnosed with Multifocal Glioblastoma, an extremely aggressive form of terminal brain cancer.

Rita had an 11-year-run as Oakdale’s Carol Deming Hughes Stallings Andropoulos Frazier.

The former actress-turned-optician, died on Christmas.  Rita’s brother, David McLaughlin revealed the news on the 26th which also happened to be the anniversary of Walter’s exit from the defunct CBS soap opera in 1981.

In his posting on Facebook, McLaughlin shared: “My sweet, loving sister Rita was called to Jesus today on Christmas day, his birthday. She was a well known actress as well as dedicated server of the Lord Jesus. May you rest in peace Sis, I love you forever. You’ve taken my heart with you.”

Before playing good girl, Carol Deming, who always found herself in distress as only a good heroine could do, Rita started her career as Patty Duke’s double on The Patty Duke Show, before getting her first foray into soaps with a role on The Secret Storm as Wendy Phillips.

We clearly remember when on ATWT, Carol was married to Jay Stallings, but Jay was having an affair behind her back. Carol also had failed relationships and marriages to Tom Hughes and Steve Andropolous.  Eventually, Carol left Oakdale after falling in love and marrying Reverend Norman Frazier.  In a case of life imitating art, Rita married Reverend Normal Walter in 1976.

Walter is survived by her three children, Brian, Jill, and Amy, and her husband, Reverend Norman.
