At first glance I thought it was a younger picture of Lisa Bonet.

Emma,Xander and now Zoe? I am all for a fresh face or 2 but slow down B&B! And contract? Lets not dump our vets! The show is only 30mins!

I agree. Quinn and Eric are AWOL. Thorne is on a bit more now, but why is he involved in Hope’s line? I guess she’ll put Emma’s nose out of joint.

I think Kiara’s eyebrows are too much and takeover her face.

Never heard of her. I hate when they bump up the teens for summer. Use the characters already on the canvas. Where are Quinn and Eric? Shouldn’t Quinn be involved in Bill using and dumping her son, Wyatt????

I’m all for this. I love when they use fresh faces and stories during the summer. If they didn’t, it would be the same old merry go round with the vets.

I agree. How many viewers under 60 care one whit about great grandpa, Eric? How many times do we have to pretend that Bill is still a stud and Brook is still a femme fatale? It’s freaking absurd.
My objection to the newbies is where is Nicole? Why didn’t they just write for her? She is talented and familiar. We don’t need Emma nor, this new girl. And give Carter a story! I don’t care about this new guy. Nobody on the current writing staff has enough skill to make these new characters compelling before the audience they were hired to cultivate, returns to school. It’s almost July. Forget all these new characters. Ratings will continue to drop.

I, for one, care many “whits” about Eric and I’m sure many others do. Makes no difference to me how old he is; he’s the heart/head of Forrester. Miss his presence on the show and hope he’s back soon and featured more often.

I’m speaking of viewers under sixty. Actually advertisers who pay to keep these shows on the air are the ones who don’t care what anyone over 49 thinks.

rebecca1

I’m way under 60 and I like him. And there are many viewers who like Laura, Scorpio, Anna, Monica, etc on GH; Anna and Laura are near 60 and Monica and Scorpio are over 70.

Eric on B&B is a great character. And while I think “Bill” is an egocentric narcissist, he IS still hot, Brooke is still quite attractive, etc. These shows are at their best when they have characters from different generations as they’ve always had since their inception.

As for advertisers, they always want to attract younger demographics… in prime time, as well. And yet prime time shows, too, have older actors/characters. If the stories are good then the viewer will be hooked, regardless of age. Soaps are not the Disney Channel nor are they on The CW or Fox (which I also watch ala The Flash, Inhumans, Vampire Diaries, The Originals, etc). Daytime soaps, no matter how many young characters they bring in, are never going to attract the viewers they did decades ago. Advertisers realize that and so do executives which is why they’re a soon-to-be bygone genre.

You make good, valid points. I maintain my views but respect yours.
I’m frustrated with the writing more than anything. The casting and who tptb chooses to showcase is secondary to the fact that the stories are lousy.

Thank you, Soapluv for your reply. Just to clarify; I’m not against new characters or younger characters. I just always have an issue when people think people are too old…in any capacity. And as I said (and, yes, this is subjective) I enjoy characters of all ages IF I like the character and the story.

As for B&B, I agree. Some of the stories are lousy or just repetitive. I wrote that to Rose several comments below.

Here’s hoping it picks up and that we have our soaps on for quite a while to come!

Thank you for the cordial exchange. 😉

Yes,these older characters are the foundation of the show. To many newbies!!!

Who? Oh yeah. Tis the season. Bump up young kids for the summer at the expense of the vets.

Let me see: I have a feeling that this Zoe chick has a past with…Justin. Hey…just guessing here…lol.

Later.

Gone by September.

I’m going to assume she has a past with the new British nephew/intern, Xander. Can’t tell by the picture: is she old enough to be his mother? Not liking any of it. So let’s see; they got rid of Rick (recurring), Thomas, Zende, Nicole, RJ, Cocoa, the Spectra’s (though Sally’s back), Eric and Quinn are barely on, Charlie’s barely around…what’s left? The entire “clan” is gone and we’ve got two new interns in place of RJ and Cocoa and now another newbie.

Also think “Emma” needs a bit more acting experience; and don’t get me started on Sheryl Underwood. WHY is she on the show? The fourth wall has been broken…

Rebecca1…Agree…hoping this is just the lazy, summer interlude storyline, and will be over shortly. About the only thing I like is that Sally is back. I do like her with Wyatt. But enough kissy stuff. Let’s get Sally creative again. And enough of Hope/Steffy/Liam/ Bill.

rebecca1
rebecca1

Hi, Rose. Well, it’s a month since I posted that and to be honest, I’m enjoying this new character Zoe! She brings a weird, funky, interesting vibe. “Emma” (the actress) needs more experience; Xander is a cute addition.

I agree about Sally. Love that she’s back but not if she’s just going to be in the background. Somehow without her own company, her “gram”, Saul, Darlita; just not the same. I love Sally and don’t they should have gotten rid of her in the first place; just hope they don’t waste the character.

I don’t know if I’ve ever seen such redundant dialogue on a soap before as I have with the Liam/Hope scenes. I rarely FF and I have to. It’s not a choice. 😉 Since I’ve only been watching Days for under two years it’s not that I’m sick of the Bill/Steffy/Liam/Hope thing’ it’s just the way they’re going about it. Extremely lazy writing. Seems they wrote a certain number of lines that they repeat over and over again. Sort of like some song lyrics but at least I can dance to those!

Rebecca1…I think Zoe does have an exotic air about her. I don’t particularly like the character, but she is really interesting and shakes it up in an otherwise same-old, same-old B&B. I do like how she can hold her own/dominate a scene even with the more experienced actors around her. Quite a feat for a summer newbie.

I’d like it if Sally and Wyatt decided to start their own offshoot design company, and bring the rest of Sally’s “family” back?

My thoughts on the B&B characters…is it my imagination that they have to work with less established, major actors than GH? And with these actors they get more air time than those left on GH? Maybe that’s why they keep recycling Liam, Steffy, Hope and Bill. But I am bored with them, and who loves who, etc. You can always predict what will probably happened for the next few weeks.

rebecca1
rebecca1

Hey again, Rose.

I’m not sure about your question. Did you mean that the established, experienced actors on B&B have scenes with less experienced actors or that the actors in general are less established, experienced. If it’s the latter, no; I don’t think the B&B actors are less established. Most of them are from other soaps and are excellent in their own right. If for some reason they were off B&B I’d love to see any of them on GH. And, of course, we can’t compare shows or cast. B&B is only a half hour and they have a much smaller cast.

I actually still like the show but the Liam, Hope, Steffy thing is ridiculous. Things are about to shake up though as Steffy decides to be with Bill. That should be interesting and create soapy drama.

I like the idea of Wyatt and Steffy going out on their own. He’s great at PR; did a great job with promoting Steffy. But, still, Sally would need capital to bring back her staff.

Funny how easily both he and Katie got over each other; how quickly Sally got over Thomas while she was still “in love” with Liam. And, don’t you think Liam should have defended Sally when she was accused of sending the threats? I mean, c’mon!!!! They got so close; he didn’t know her enough to know she wouldn’t do that? That was also ridiculous.

rose

Rebecca1…My question really isn’t very clear. you know, mixing up one word when you mean another can make a big difference! It should read ” they have to work with “fewer” than “less” established major actors than on GH.

LISTEN TO THE REPLAY: Soap Nation Live! With Michael Fairman Season Premiere With Laura Wright, Jason Thompson, Michael Easton, Maurice Benard, Stacy Haiduk & Kim Zimmer

If you missed Thursday night’s season premiere of Soap Nation Live! with Michael Fairman it was a broadcast full of surprises, fun, and intriguing intel as some of the biggest names in the soap opera genre helped kick-off the series 2018 run of episodes.

Joining Michael in-studio as guest co-host was General Hospital’s Laura Wright (Carly Corinthos).  The show began with a guest call-in to surprise Laura, which was revealed to be daytime drama icon, and four-time Daytime Emmy winner, Kim Zimmer (Ex-Reva) of Guiding Light.  Laura and Kim worked together on the beloved CBS soap where they played sisters.  Kim expressed how much she enjoys checking out General Hospital and the actors performances she has loved watching which included: Max Gail (Mike), and the recently exited Nelle (Chloe Lanier), among others.  Michael, Laura, and Kim bantered on the actresses time on GL and more.

Next, GH’s Michael Easton (Finn) joined the show where he discussed the release of his upcoming 20th anniversary edition of his book 18 Straight Whiskeys, working on GH opposite Finola Hughes (Anna) and Jessica Tuck (Cassandra).  During his segment, Michael Fairman asked Easton to play a game show segment he prepared for him, which was called, “Michael, Who Said That?” In it, Michael Easton had to guess which one of his many soap characters was he portraying in the scene in the audio clip, and it made for one of the highlights of the night.

Calling in from New York City was Stacy Haiduk, who is about to make her debut this week on the August 21st of Days of our Lives as Susan Banks, replacing Eileen Davidson in the role.  Susan is back on the canvas just as John and Marlena’s wedding is about to begin.  The question is: Will more of Davidson’s roles be played by Haiduk during her upcoming rum on the show?  We chatted with Stacy about working on DAYS, and taking over the one-of-a-kind role of Susan made soap-famous by Emmy winner, Davidson.

Then, The Young and the Restless, Jason Thompson (Billy Abbott) was our special guest in the studio.  Jason talked about Billy’s latest stumble back into his gambling addiction, Phyllis’ fling with Nick, and if Billy will be able to resist the seduction attempts by Phyllis’ daughter, Summer on upcoming episodes.  Jason fielded several questions from fans who called-in to chat with him during his segment.  As well, throughout the broadcast, several listeners were able to get through the busy phone lines to pose a question to our guests.

Michael surprised the listeners with none other than Maurice Benard (Sonny) of General Hospital as the last guest on the show.  Maurice was celebrating his 25th anniversary as Sonny on the ABC daytime drama series.  With Maurice, some of the funniest moments of the night occurred when Jason and Laura recounted what happened the first time they met him.  Maurice also expressed that this past week, he taped some of his most favorite scenes of all-time, and Laura said they have been very emotional.  As announced, look for a special Sonny-centric episode in September in honor of Benard’s 25 years as Port Charles’ top mobster.

Finally, one lucky caller won a pair of tickets to the GH Fantasy Event in Atlanta, Georgia, during our game show trivia segment, when he had the correct answers (with an assist from Jason Thompson) to the questions.

Now, below click on the play button and hear the replay of the Soap Nation Live Season Premiere with Laura Wright, Kim Zimmer, Michael Easton, Stacy Haiduk, Jason Thompson, and Maurice Benard.

Queen Of Soul, Aretha Franklin, Passes Away As Soap Stars & Fans Remember Her Love For Her Soaps: Y&R and B&B

The world continues to mourn the loss of the one and only, Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin, who died this past Thursday at age 76.   For some time, Aretha had been batting advanced pancreatic cancer.  The voice that meant so much to so many, and inspired so many female vocalists of today can never be replaced, and her songs and performances will live on in our hearts forever.

Over the last few days, television news programs have brought to us some heartbreaking, emotional, and uplifting moments from her dear friends: the incomparable Stevie Wonder, who shed tears while speaking of Aretha on the CBS Morning News, and with whom he went to see shortly before she died,  as well as Franklin’s longtime friend, Smoky Robinson, who spoke about his relationship with host Robin Roberts on Good Morning America.

This weekend, several tributes are on tap paying tribute to the mighty Franklin including those on TV One, and on OWN, with Oprah Winfrey’s Remembering Aretha Franklin: The Oprah Interview  tonight at 8PMEST.

But daytime fans were clued in to the fact that Aretha had a passion for the soaps.  She loved The Young and the Restless, and the character of Victor Newman (Eric Braeden).  In fact, Aretha was thrilled to be asked to help introduce the Y&R Daytime Drama Series nomination clip package at the Daytime Emmys in 1997.  She expressed why she was superfan of the show: “I watch it in the morning. I watch it when I’m at home. I watch it when I’m in concert. I watch it when I’m asleep …  I watch it!”   And one of the main reasons she loved Y&R, was Victor Newman: “Victor is one of my favorite characters in The Young and the Restless.  I love the way he makes his approach to a woman.  He’s the all-time player.”  The ‘Queen of Soul’ even did her own impersonation of him.

At the 2005 Daytime Emmys, Aretha presented the Outstanding Drama Series Award alongside Eric Braeden.  It was a thrill for her, and also notable for Braeden as he tweeted about his mishap where he accidentenly said, “God Bless, Eric Braeden,” when he meant to say, “God Bless, Bill Bell”.

Upon learning the news of Franklin’s passing, The Bold and the Beautiful’s Eva Basler (VP Communications for Bell-Phillip Productions and The Bold and the Beautiful) recalled on Twitter: “It was my first year at The Bold and the Beautiful & we were at rehearsals in NYC.  Aretha Franklin was on stage & looked down to the floor & screamed, “RIDGE! THORNE!” excited to see them in the front row. Later, I had the honor of escorting Susan Flannery & her thru the gifting suite.”

The official show Twitter feed posted: “The cast & crew of The Bold and the Beautiful are sending prayers & good thoughts up to Aretha Franklin & her family. Some of our cast met The Queen of Soul, who is a huge fan of B&B, at Radio City Music in NYC Pictured here with Susan Flannery. We LOVE you Aretha!”

Throughout the last few days so many soap stars have posted their sadness on the loss of Franklin, and what she meant to their lives and to all of ours.

Now below, watch the two moments of Aretha’s from the Daytime Emmys were she talks her love of Y&R, and presents with Eric Braeden.  Followed by the emotional interview with Stevie Wonder on the CBS This Morning and then Smokey Robinson’s remembrances.

Then let us know your thoughts on the passing of Aretha, your favorite song of hers, and how wonderful it was to know that this American treasure was actually a soap opera fan, just like so many of you via the comment section below.

Maddison Brown Joins ‘Dynasty’ As Kirby Anders

Another familiar character to longtime Dynasty fans has been cast for its upcoming second season; that of the very troubled, Kirby Anders.

In the CW reboot, newcomer Maddison Brown has nabbed the role, originally played in the ABC version by Kathleen Beller.

According to EW.com, the character description reads: “Kirby grew up in the staff’s living quarters with her father, estate manager Joseph Anders, and sides more with the downstairs occupants than the upstairs.  She has a fraught history with the Carringtons, specifically a tempestuous relationship with Fallon that was the reason for Kirby’s exile from the Manor years ago.  And while she returns to Atlanta to make amends with her father, she will certainly continue wreaking havoc on the Carringtons.”

Brown is listed as a series regular for the new season.

Dynasty returns with all-new episodes on Friday, October 12th at 8PMEST.

So, what do you think of Kirby being back on the canvas against the Carringtons? Comment below
