B&B on ET: How They Prepared To Go Back In Production To Shoot Two Episodes A Day During COVID-19

Photo: JPI

Last night, The Bold and the Beautiful was spotlighted on Entertainment Tonight, with former GH star and now ET host. Matt Cohen (Ex-Griffin) at the helm of the segment.

B&B stars who took part in the piece were: Jacqueline MacInnes Wood (Steffy), Denise Richards (Shauna). and newcomer to the show Tanner Novlan (Finn), plus the series executive producer and head writer, Brad Bell.  You can check out their appearance on ET here.

As to the changes implemented to do the intimate scenes and keep everyone safe, Bell shared they had to rethink the way they structure scenes. Large group scenes are out for now, with most scenes involving just one or two actors.  In addition, the use of mannequins and other aids to keep sight lines consistent, and some unique tactics to keep the performers safe during intimate scenes are key.

“We’re having (the actors) act while looking at something that’s very close.  It brings their voice down, brings their eyes to the right spot. And then when you edit both sides together, you’ve got a very intimate scene.”  Brad also shared, that as previously revealed, the show is having cast members real-life spouses, partners, etc, standing in for intimate shots as opposed to their B&B co-stars.

Just how are they doing it?  The exec revealed, “We are wigging them, we’re matching wardrobe and makeup. Once in a while, if you look closely, you’ll see a sideburn is a little longer, when they get in tight on that kiss. But that may be part of the fun of watching these shows, is trying to catch us as we’re trying to pull a fast one with these romantic scenes.”

Emmy winner Jacqui Wood, shared: “It can be a little difficult at times, when you want to go to reach to touch someone.  But we are actors and you morph and you make it work” Her new on-screen love interest, Tanner Novlan who plays “Finn” who is married to former B&B actress, Kayla Ewell shared:  “We haven’t shot any (intimate) scenes yet, but it kind of works for me at home, because if I ever want to schmooze on my wife, I can just say, ‘Hey, honey, I need to rehearse with you — this is protocol!”

So, what do you think of how B&B is handling production during these unprecedented times in our country and the world?  Glad that they are back this week with new episodes? Comment below.  But first check out Tanner Novlan’s message to watch his debut today on the CBS Daytime drama.

Matt can’t find a better backdrop? The stove is distracting, Meanwhile, Jacqui’s dog asleep in the chair is so cute!

The scene today at the hospital was a bit weird with everyone so far away from one another. I think they could have done a better job with that scene, but so far so good.

Corbin Bernsen to Reprise His Role of Arnie Becker in ‘LA Law’ Revival Pilot

Corbin Bernsen (Father Todd, The Young and the Restless) and the son of Y&R’s late great Jeanne Cooper (Katherine Chancellor) has signed on to reprise his signature primetime television role of womanizing lawyer Arnie Becker in the upcoming LA Law revival pilot.

This makes Corbin the co-lead of the series alongside Blair Underwood (Ex-OLTL) who previously signed on to the pilot to reprise his role of Jonathan Rollins.  ABC has greenlit the pilot.

According to Deadline, it is believed that Bernsen and Underwood will be the only original members of the mid 80’s-90’s legal drama on NBC in the pilot, but more may guest-star if the show gets picked up for a full-season order.

In the premise of the reboot, the law firm of McKenzie Brackman, now named Becker Rollins, reinvents itself as a litigation firm specializing in only the most high profile, boundary pushing and incendiary cases.  The show will feature familiar characters working alongside new ones on the most hot button issues of the day.  As for Bernsen’s Becker, now in his 60’s, look for him to struggle with a rapidly shifting sexual and political landscape.

The original LA Law ran for eight seasons from September 15, 1986 to May 19, 1994 on NBC.

So, what do you think of Corbin taking on the role of Arnie Becket in a revival of LA Law? Would you be intrigued to check out the show if it makes it to series? Comment below.
