Over the last month, Beyond the Gates made its debut and as with any new daytime drama recasts are inevitable after getting the show off the ground. While fans of the series are getting to know the characters and watching the actors who portray them, it was only a matter of time before some things switched up.

Now comes word from Deadline, that Beyond the Gates has revealed its first recast. Keith D. Robinson will step into the role of Ted Richardson, the top notch plastic surgeon and husband of noted psychiatrist, Nicole Dupree Richardson played by Daphnee Duplaix. The role had been played by Maurice Johnson since the series premiere.

Since Beyond the Gates tapes close to two months ahead of air, Robinson will first be seen in May. Currently in story, Leslie (Trisha Mann-Grant), with whom Ted paid off and had a secret affair with has come back into his life and is ready to take him down and destroy his marriage to Nicole. She is using her supposed daughter with Ted named Eva (Ambyr Michelle) to help her in her revenge plot.

As for Keith D. Robinson, he has previously appeared in a recurring role on the ABC drama series A Million Little Things, Saints and Sinners and appeared in the motion picture Dreamgirls (which earned Jennifer Hudson her Oscar) and All Eyes on Me.

I am shocked. Breaking the news at the end of business on Friday to try and avoid the backlash this is going to cause is not going to work. I can only hope it was either the actor’s choice to leave or it was a respectful decision in order to take Ted in the right direction.

Maurice Johnson was one of the finds outside of the core four leads, and it will be sad to see him leave. That being said, knowing the talents of Keith D. Robinson, this is a strong recast that will complement the foundations left by Johnson in the role of Ted.

These kinds of changes were due to come; they happen when a soap is launching, finding its footing, and making the changes it may need to make to continue being a viable product, and I have faith in Michele Val Jean, Sheila Ducksworth, and their teams to make this change seemless and possible.

Both Actors, Maurice Johnson and Keith D. Robinson are strong actors. I will miss Maurice Johnson as Dr. Ted Richardson. Now, I do look forward to viewing the “Chemistry” the new Dr. Ted Richardson has with his wife Dr. Nicole Dupree Richardson. I am excited about that!!!!

Bring back the other actor Maurice Johnson. We do not like the one that your company replacement him with. He does not fit the part. Bring back the other one. Please, please give the other person another part.

I agree. The original Ted was classy and well-spoken. The new Ted said birfday, more than once. Maybe he will “grow on us” though.

Now the show needs to recast the actor/actress that play the roles of Derek and Ashley.

Yes!!! I agree. Bland for sure.

Could not agree more! Not a fan of either of them. They should have been the FIRST TWO recasts.

Derek can easily be written out; the role is a spaceholder. We easily could bump Ellie Wang (Caroline Lee) or Ernestine Johnson (Shanice Johnson) to series regular over Ben Gavin (Derek Baldwin).

As for Ashley, that role does not require recasting, just more of a shift in direction. Jen Jacob is one of the shining beacons in the non-daytime regular cast. The one role that does require a recast, outside of Derek, is Martin Richardson; the actor does not work in the role.

I agree. Those two struggle & it’s hard to watch while their scenes are on.

They need better writing.

I totally agree!

Caught me off guard when I heard this

People who they should be recasted, they leave on there(Dani) he did ok to me.

“Recasted” is not a word. At all. It’s still “recast”. And the role of Dani does not need to be recast at all; the four main leads are locked in. I’m sure they made sure of that.

The Dani actress is one of the worst I’ve ever seen. She is one of about 20 who should be recast. BTG is horrible beyond imagination. They should take a six month break, retool everything, then return with something decent.

Days of our Lives streams at peacocktv.com if anyone is looking for true entertainment. #Days60

Considering the soap you’re a fan of by your name, you should focus on that cast of non-actors before talking about Beyond the Gates. I have you blocked on so many websites and wish I could block you here as well.

Sorry there’s no melting face masks or r*pe happening.

Really , just watch Days if that’s your thing! Dani is a great actress!!

Yes, she is!

Are you kidding me? DAYS?? Ok……

Lady, you need to get your head out if your butt and go watch something you can understand or relate to. Karla Mosley, Danni is over the top, I agree. I’d like to see her be more self- respecting than falling apart because of her horny,, ex-husband and his child-bride. Once she gets her ass in gear again, he’ll be scratching down her door. This is a great show that needs some adjustments, you can’t expect it to be perfect right out of the gate, no pun intended. I think you just need something more in your league, this clearly is not it.

I want to know what last week’s ratings were.It is important for this show to have high ratings. This actor was probably fired because of his behavior on set with the actresses!

Comments like this, without any kind of basis are damaging to a person’s professional and personal livelihoods and shouldn’t be made in such a careless manner.

I’m saddened to see a recast of one of the main characters so soon. I thought his acting was great & he’s extremely easy on the eyes.

Facts I loved him in this role very shocking to hear. Definitely would love to hear the reason for the recast I’m hoping he got offered another acting job that’s going to take him career to the next level. Like you said a very easy on the eyes. Speak positively over these people’s lives, wishing them nothing but the best in their careers.

I thought he was doing well. It appears Dr Nicole and the Ted have develop their rhythm.

I really like Maurice in this role and I gotta be honest I am rooting for this show but a recast of a major character this quickly is not a good look

It was bound to happen, especially in a new soap opera.

I definitely get that it’s unfortunate that it’s someone who actually is clicking in their role

Perhaps he was, or maybe with the storyline he no longer fit. We don’t know.

He prolly want reparations in his contract

Of course someone would go there. Enough. Racism is SCREAMING loud.

I think the word is IGNORANT!

I liked Maurice Johnson in this role. Very handsome and he wore the clothes well. He appeared to enjoy the show as he was posting on social media on 3/20, and they made this change on 3/21.

I don’t like the character of Derek, and he and Ashley don’t work. But I believe the directors want us to feel this. I really like Ashley’s mother.

Martin is a bit stiff but what Congressman isn’t?! It was a joy to see his smile when he and Smitty were teasing their daughter about going on a double date. I think the actor will grow into the role. Look at JMW when she started; she did nothing but cry every day. I can’t stand Steffy but she’s a much better actress now. The actor playing Martin is fortunate to be working with two powerhouse actors who portray Vernon and Smitty (what a natural and a pleasure to watch).

Tomas is also a bit stiff but he will also grow into the role. I see him and Kat becoming a supercouple. So cute together.

My wish is to cut the Dani drinking story. Such a tired soap opera plot. Been there, done that: Erica Kane, Alexis Davis, Nikki Newman, Brooke Logan, and on and on. I expect better ideas from Michelle Val Jean.

I look forward to a Dani-free week soon. Give us more Jacob, Naomi, Kat, Tomas, Joey, Doug, Vanessa, Diego, Chelsea, Martin, Smitty, Leslie, and George the security guard. And I could watch Haley every day – the breakout character and star of the show.

Why

I’d like to understand WHY the recast… Is he leaving by choice, personal issues or not seeing himself in this role.

I am truly sorry that we are losing Maurice Johnson in the role of Ted Richardson because I personally feel he was perfect for the role on BTG and the actor that has been recast to replace him looks entirely too young in fact he looks to be about the same age as the character Martin or a couple of years older it’s should’ve been someone older but who would still look great with Nicole Richardson. I also hope that Dani is given a new direction because she’s become extremely tiresome constantly obsessing over her ex Bill and new wife Haley please end this storyline soon and please hire someone to be her potential new love interest soon because her fling with Andre is gross because he’s like family!.

Yes, I think they should find a new man for Danni. They could have brought in Keith for her, and she should start modeling again, take that contract she has for her daughter and use it for herself. It will give her something to do besides drink and obsess about Bill and Haley.

The show needs better writing. It would help with everyone’s performance if they scripts were better.

Beyond the Gates has the strongest scripts in American daytime; you must just not be used to seeing quality.

Sure Jan

Are you serious you can’t be

BAD DECISION. Maurice Johnson should stay in the role. Very SAD. Not Good too early. TED IS CUTEEEE. Many people will turn off from this decision. CHANGE YOUR MIND, WRITERS

Going miss him and hate he is being recasted. Even though i know the work of the other actor from Dream Girls and The Saints and the Sinners.
Hayley or Bill would have been my recast first choice. Unbelievable as a couple. She really looks like his kid. A more believable looking couple even with the age difference. Of course i understand the younger newbies are learning. I really enjoy this soap and wish it years and years of success!

“Recasted” is not a word. It’s simply “recast”.

How recalcitrant of you!

How is it recalcitrant of me?

Last edited 1 year ago by Scott (ATWT fan)

Don’t take the bait Scott… be better than. You will wake up happier every morning. The high road is a nice place to be.

Oh trust me, Mimi does not bother me like she thinks she does. Trust THAT.

Dani, I agree she needs to be recasted. Too young for the role. Also, Bill’s new wife definitely needs to be recast. Lastly, recasting Maurice Johnson is a mistake! Good actor with Nicole Dupree Richardson. Good Day time soap drama!

I don’t like the change

I do not like the change of any character. The joy of enjoying the show and the characters is accepting that they are real. So, when one up and changes into another person, it is very disconcerting.

Would like to know why he was replaced, as a loyal fan l have a right to know!

I’m not happy at all with the decision to chage the character. Maurice Johnson did great playing his role.

Andre

On Beyond the Gates, Andre Richardson’s (Sean Freeman) “happily” married life to Dani Dupree (Karla Mosley) is about to be tested like never before on upcoming episodes of the CBS soap opera the week of August 17-21.

After the shocking reveal on the Friday, August 14 cliffhanger, viewers learned that the person who was sending Andre ominous text messages is none other than The Impaler herself, Heather Armstrong (Ashley Jones). Clearly from the latest promo for the action at the Bowman hotel and in and around Fairmont Crest (see below), Andre knows Heather quite well, as she makes moves on him.

While all this is going down, Dani tries to diffuse the Dupree family for thinking there is anything going on between her and her ex-husband, Bill Hamilton (Timon Kyle Durrett). Dani’s behavior over Bill being in the hospital has been of someone who is still deeply in love with the guy (specially because of her very public outbursts) and as viewers know, she recently had sex with her ex in the elevator at the country club during a tornado!

HEATHER ARMSTRONG IS ON THE HUNT FOR ANDRE

Poor Andre has no idea about the elevator liaison, and recently visited Bill in his hospital room to tell him to stay away from his wife, when and if he gets out of his hospital bed! But now, the tables may be turned, if Heather gets her claws into Andre.

Take a look at the official Beyond the Gates spoilers for this week below.

Monday, August 17
Andre is pulled down by his past. Tensions mount between Tomas and Naomi. Chelsea and Kat pair fashion with controversy. Vernon confronts Bill about his intentions with Dani.

Tuesday, August 18
Bill flirts with disaster. Hayley and Ashley clash. Eva’s words instigate Leslie. Carlton gives Ted a major update while Nicole does the same with Vanessa. Shanice fields an unanticipated request. Smitty disappoints Martin.

Wednesday, August 19
Nicole’s plan saves the night for Noah. Dani and Andre color outside the lines. Jacob enlists Grayson and Ashley to surprise Naomi. Vernon’s plans for Anita get interrupted.

Thursday, August 20
Leslie’s forced to reckon with her past in order to move on with her future. Bill and Ted bond over their shared history. An unexpected reaction causes Nicole to self-examine in front of Kial. Eva and Izaiah divulge some hard truths with each other.

Friday, August 21
Chelsea is haunted by unresolved trauma while her father reaches his breaking point. Dani locks horns with Hayley. Randy tails Heather. Madison gets conflicting information from two adversaries. Andre issues a threat.

Now below, check out the CBS promo for all-new episodes of Beyond the Gates.

Then let us know, do you think Andre knows just how dangerous Heather is … or he has no idea? Will Heather blackmail him into sex, or will he go willingly? Is the end of Andre and Dani for good, or will he continue to be the upstanding guy in their relationship, even though he knows in his heart that he cannot compete with the pull of Dani towards Bill? Tamara Tunie Opens Up About ‘Beyond the Gates’ Co-Star Clifton Davis Emmy Snub, and Her ‘Bittersweet’ Nomination Upon Scott Bryce’s Death

Clifton Davis, Tamara Tunie, Scott Bryce

Beyond the Gates scored 15 Daytime Emmy nominations, the best-ever showing for a series entering the Daytime Emmy race in history for the first time. Among those 15 nominations came the news of the well-deserved nod for Tamara Tunie as Outstanding Lead Actress for her role of Anita Williams Dupree.

Tunie is nominated in the Lead Actress category along with her TV daughter, Karla Mosley (Dani Dupree). For both actresses, this marks their first Daytime Emmy nominations.

However, one of the main actors on the show, Clifton Davis, who plays Anita’s husband, Vernon Dupree, did not make the list for the Lead Actor finalists.

Photo: CBS

CLIFTON DAVIS TOOK LEAD ACTOR OMISSION ‘LIKE A CHAMP’

In a talk with Gold Derby, Tunie addressed the omission by sharing, awards are a “dice roll from year to year.” She shared she hopes in 2027 Davis will get his due. Tamara offered up Clifton’s reaction to not being amongst the cast going for gold on October 30, the night of the Daytime Emmys in Hollywood.

“There were several other people who were overlooked, not just Clifton, and it’s all with a grain of salt, and it’s not a reflection on the work in any way, shape, or form,” the veteran actress explained. “Oftentimes, as we know in this business, there are other considerations and things that happen. Some votes may cancel out other votes, and it just doesn’t mean anything. It doesn’t diminish that he’s a legend, and he always will be. He took it like a champ. He’s been doing this long enough to understand that it doesn’t reflect the work at all.”

JOY MIXED WITH SORROW AFTER THE PASSING OF AS THE WORLD TURNS’ SCOTT BRYCE

In addition to the joy of scoring her long overdue Emmy nomination, Tunie also experienced incredible sorrow. The night before the Daytime Emmy nominations were revealed for Lead Actress on Monday, July 13, came the news that Tamara’s longtime friend and As the World Turns co-star, Scott Bryce, has lost his battle with cancer at the age of 68.

It was gut-punch to Tamara’s soul. She recalled, “He was my brother. I was so heartbroken and low, and then the announcement came that I was nominated, and it lifted my spirits tremendously. At the same time, it was bittersweet and poignant, because I know that Scotty would have been the first one to pick up the phone and call me.”

Bryce appeared as Craig Montgomery on the CBS soap opera from 1982–1991, 1993–1994, and 2007–2008. Tamara Tunie played Jessica Griffin from 1987 to February 1995, 1999 -2007, and one final appearance in 2009.

To honor her beloved friend, while Tunie was not able to attend Scott’s Celebration of Life service in Connecticut on July 25, she did write a beautiful tribute that was read during the memorial to the attendees.

TAMARA TUNIE’S DAYTIME-EMMY NOMINATED REEL SCENE SELECTIONS

Tamara also shared what scenes were on her nominated reel which includes: “Anita doing a rap, Anita being her own female impersonator, and Anita in what I call my Michael Corleone moment, when Dani has shot up the wedding and she comes into the house and I say, ‘Is this my daughter I see before me? How dare you!'”

In addition, Anita’s cancer journey is also part of the reel. Tunie explained how she was able to play the story which suc poignancy. “I have loved ones who have been on that cancer journey. Some survived, some did not. I was able to pull a lot of emotional information because of my experiences with loved ones.”

So, do you feel Clifton Davis was a definite Lead Actor Daytime Emmy snub? Are you rooting for Tamara to pick up the gold statuette given the heartbreaking loss of Scott Bryce and the scenes on her nominated reel? Share your thoughts via the comment section below.

In story, Noah comes to the DMV area and lands at none other than Orphey Jeans coffee shop. He is spotted by Deanna McBride (Angela Fairley) who becomes quite smitten with him. However, Noah is having trouble paying his bill to June (Daytime Emmy nominee Jasmine Burke).

NOAH IS INTRODUCED

Next, Noah comes to Garland Memorial Hospital looking for his dad, and runs into Nicole (Daphnee Duplaix), who knew exactly who he was and brings him to see Kial, who is surprised to see his son in town.

Noah needs money and Kial won’t pay it, unless he takes a job to pay for music career right here in the DC/Maryland area.  Kial tells his son, Atlanta and New York City aren’t that far away if he gets a gig. So, Noah agrees to apply for the job at the free clinic, which Kial will help push through and in return he will get him some cash. Noah is then going to crash at Kial’s place and Kial will go stay with Nicole.

Nick Hagelin is an Atlanta-based performer which is where Beyond the Gates is taped. Previously, Hagelin was in the Top 9 on NBCs The Voice, and has a band in Atlanta called The Fantasy Exchange. GREG VAUGHAN GONE FROM BEYOND THE GATES?

The addition of Kial’s son to the canvas left many fans wondering if Greg Vaughan has already left the show or was his recent Instagram message about something else entirely. Beyond the Gates tapes over four months ahead of episodes airing on CBS.

Vaughan’s post shared, “My heart is full. My purpose is just getting started. I’m grateful for my life, my family, the people who consistently show up, and the lessons that shaped me. Every challenge has become preparation. Every blessing has become perspective… I’m simply grateful for how far God has brought me, and excited for everything that’s still ahead.”

Greg concluded: “Thank you to everyone who’s been part of my journey. Family. Friends. Fans. Colleagues. Your encouragement has meant more than you know. Here’s to the next chapter.”

Friends and colleagues jumped into Vaughan’s comment thread including: Robert Christopher Riley who plays Carlton on Beyond the Gates who shared, “Love and miss ya buddy,” fueling speculation that Vaughan is no longer on the CBS soap.

So, what did you think of the on-screen debut of Nick Hagelin as Noah Rollins? Intrigued to see more? Do you think from Greg Vaughan’s message that he is no longer on Beyond the Gates? Weigh-in via the comment section below.
