Jason Graham Returns to ‘Beyond the Gates’: Is ‘Doug McBride’ Alive, and Will He Be Revealed as ‘The Impaler’?

As Beyond the Gates viewers were tipped off to via the closing credits of the show earlier this week, Jason Graham, was on the way back as supposedly a very much alive Doug McBride. However, the closing moments of the Friday, May 22 episode left more questions more than certain answers.

In the story, as Joey (Jon Lindstrom) and Donnell’s (Alex Cheeks) conversation in the private room of the casino escalated, Vanessa’s (Lauren Buglioli) son is not convinced that Joey isn’t involved in the blood plasma scandal and the shoot-out that went down inside the warehouse that cost Derek Baldwin (Ben Gavin) his life.

Joey tried to suggest that Donnell’s sister, Deanna’s (Angela Fairley) hatred of him is rubbing off on the young man. However, Donnell is not having a word that Joey is saying and asks for the truth one last time about the night his father died. At the very same time, Deanna is in for the shock of her life when she hears a familiar face and comes face to face in an encounter with her supposedly-dead father in the final moments of the show.

HOW DID DOUG ‘DIE?’

So, what is actually going on here? Doug was the young soap opera’s first major character death that occurred back on September 24, 2025. Doug’s “death” went down after a night of him gambling and drinking heavily. When viewers learned Doug had perished in a car accident, Joey was in bed with Doug’s then wife, Vanessa and had just given an order to his henchman Randy (Maurice P. Kerry) to “handle” Doug.

There seem to be two mysteries tied into one here. First, is Doug actually alive? Is Deanna seeing the spitting image of her father? In the just released promo for the action next week in episodes airing May 26-May 29, Deanna says to the man who seems to be Doug, “Daddy, is this real?” To which he responds, “Why don’t you come over and see for yourself.”

This version of Doug has a new look and certainly seems more mysterious. All leading to the question, is Doug actually “The Impaler” and the one calling the shots of the illegal blood plasma ring? Is he know a very, very wealthy man? Does Joey even know Doug is alive and in and around Fairmont Crest?

A SHOCKING PREVIEW

Jason Graham and Lauren Buglioli took to their Instagram accounts on Friday, intimating that Doug is back in action with a dance to Raye’s track “Where the Hell is My Husband.” Alex Cheeks took to the comment thread along with other Beyond the Gates stars. Cheeks wrote curiously, “Dad???”

Beyond the Gates fans will have to wait till the Tuesday, May 26 episode of the CBS soap opera to get some answers, when all new episodes return. As previously reported, Monday’s Memorial Day episode is a repeat.

According to official spoilers, when Beyond the Gates picks-up on next week: Joey gives Donnell what he wants, and Deanna’s blast from the past has a mission for her to accomplish, while Leslie (Trisha Mann-Grant) is worried the plasma ring’s reach could impact her.

So, what do you think is going on here? Is Jason Graham back as a very much alive Doug McBride? If so, is he the notorious ‘Impaler?’ Share your thoughts and theories via the comment section below. But first, check out the video preview for next week on Beyond the Gates.

Thank God Doug is coming home… but he can’t be the Impaler! 8 waited all this time for him to show up alive.

Think back to something Joey told Randy on Thursday’s episode. He said to tell the Impaler to stay out of my territory. To me, Randy is working for the Impaler and Joey knows who he is. Randy and Doug were best friends. Doug was a doctor who knows all about plasma. Also, months ago when Hayley faked her miscarriage, Randy supplied the plasma, which he could have easily got Doug to provide. Dang, I love this show!

Well, we all knew Doug wasn’t dead. Never saw a body, and we all know what that means in soaps. Furthermore, we never saw him down here in Hell, and it’s not likely that a drunken gambling addict would have gone the other direction.

Now on the other horn, for him to go from the complete mess that he was at the time he supposedly “died” to the criminal mastemind “Impaler” running this black market blood bank virtually overnight, well that seems like a bit of a stretch. That’s not to say he might not have been dragged into the operation somehow. He does have some serious gambling debts to pay off, after all.

So glad Doug is back but I hope he’s the real deal and not a lookalike….. that’s the type of soap cliché that BTG was supposed to avoid.

I’m tired of hearing the term “Impaler”. Except for the conclusion, the blood plasma ring just didn’t work as a storyline. Can we just move on from it, please? Jason Graham looks great and I never liked the idea of killing Doug off but I fear that they’re going to make Doug a mere figment in his daughter’s imagination- an idea I really hate, almost as I hate the idea of making Doug the “Impaler”. The only interesting part of that storyline was the end, please just let it go, don’t bring Jason Graham back for that nonsense. Please.

Glad Jason Graham has returned. I don’t think he’s the Impaler. I still think it will be a new character. Maybe Joey Armstrong’s sister Heather or a surprise character that Randy knows about that Joey has never heard of. A Randy Secret kept from the boss man.
