Bonnie Burroughs Exits General Hospital, But Did Gladys Get What She Deserved?

By Michael Fairman

Published

on

On Thursday’s General Hospital, Gladys’ (Bonnie Burroughs) machinations and lies caught up with her when Sonny (Maurice Benard) sent her packing and out of Port Charles.

For months, Gladys has been an instigator and co-conspirator with Dr. Montague (Daren Toonder) in the heinous drugging plot of Sasha (Sofia Mattsson) and keeping her locked up in Ferncliff. All of this stemming from Gladys’ gambling debt to Selina Wu (Lydia Look), and getting her hands on Sasha’s inheritance.

On yesterday’s GH, the walls finally closed in on Gladys and she admitted all her wrongdoings to Sonny. In the end, she winds up being taken by Sonny’s henchman, Frank, to be deposited back to Bridgeport from whence she game.

Actress Bonnie Burroughs spoke to Soap Opera Digest (in their latest issue on newsstands now) about her departure from the ABC daytime drama series.  She had played the role since July of 2019.

Burroughs expressed that she got a heads up from GH executive producer, Frank Valentini that her gig was coming to an end, and how it helped prepare her for to say goodbye to the character and the soap opera: “I’m glad I got that heads up, because if I hadn’t, when I got the script for the last episode, it would have hit me harder.”

As to her time playing Gladys and why she could play her so well, Burroughs acknowledged, “I’m attracted to characters who are messy. Gladys is a liar, She’s never been fully mature, well-functioning adult. She couldn’t get her act together in the end, when it was really bad, it was all about self-preservation – at the expense of Sasha’s well-being.”

Many GH viewers have cried out that this ending for Gladys was not severe enough punishment for her crimes. In addition, many thought Gladys would be killed-off, and it would lead to a new murder mystery with several prime suspects.  However, none of that came to fruition.

What do you think about how Gladys was written off GH?  Was this a Will you miss Bonnie Burroughs as the troublemaker in the Corbin clan?

Will miss the character and the actress. She was a fully developed character and was well played by Bonnie

A murder mystery would have made for real drama in true soap fashion . But no prison or something harsher is what should have happened but to understand sonny is loyal to family n so she is family so he sent her back to we’re she came from never to return n she knows that I’d she does she will make good on his threat so in that respect yes it’s ok

I agree. Ending the story this way was just plain stupid.

I understand familial ties, however, Sonny is neither God nor the law. He cannot pick and choose who gets deserved punishment—especially from someone as lawless as Sonny.
I actually liked the actress, if not the character, Gladys. She could have been redeemed by testifying against the psycho doctor.

Celia, I was hoping Gladys would ride to the rescue and zap that crazy doctor in the badoobies with an electric cattle prod, ala TOOTSIE. But no such luck. BB is an excellent actress who played the amoral, spoiled brat parts of Gladys to the hilt. By the way, doesn’t that doctor bear a creepy, separated-at-birth resemblance to new JEOPARDY! host Ken Jennings?

Very glad it was Sonny that took Gladys down! And I think sending her out of town was as good a way as any to get rid of her. But I also am glad they didn’t kill Gladys off because that means she could always return at some point.
Bonnie played the heck out of that character, but it was time for Gladys to go!

Gladys got to walk away alive only because she was “family”. Sonny let her live because of Mike & Brando, not so much because of herself.

Now, on the other horn, I really expected we would get that so-called “doctor” down here, most likely a victim of his own needle. A little disappointed that he survived, but maybe Cyrus can take care of him in prison?

As you say, maybe someone will give him a big taste of his own medicine.

Gladys (and Bonnie) was too good to kill off. Glad that she’s only been written out and the door is open for an inevitable return. The storyline dragged on too long. I hope that Sonny puts the screws to Selina Wu for targeting his cousin. THAT’S the murder mystery waiting to happen!

Yes, I was hoping Sonny would send her back to where ever she came from and her twit of a nephew, Brad.

I believe that Brad is Selina Wu’s nephew, not Gladys’.

She needed 4 horses to pull her apart. What a despicable character.

I’m just glad she’s gone. After Brando’s death there was no need for the character to stick around, and keeping her alive means she can come back in the future to cause more trouble. Gladys is a good start, but GH needs to trim the fat and get rid of characters that don’t add to the story, like Marshall, Gregory and Mason.

Gregory is Finn and Chases dad. He’s integral. He brought the boys together. He also mended fences with estranged Finn. It’s all good.

Don’t know about Gegory but Curtus will need his dad when he and Portia part and or if they find out that Trina us really not his daughter. That whole DNA thing was just too easy, especially with Ms.Wu’s fingers in the pot.0

Sonny will make good on his threat if she ever returns is what it should of said in the last post

Bonnie’s really the only reason Gladys has remained part of the canvas for over 4 years. There were many times Gladys could have been written out (especially after Brando’s death) but her presence only got stronger.

The character, as written, could’ve had a more permanent demise (death or long term incarceration) but banishment to Bridgeport (trust me – it ain’t pretty) allows Burroughs a possible return down the road.

Disappointed we didn’t see the story play out with her punishment. What a terrible way to end this story by just sending her out of town. She got away with everything.

I thought Sonny would make her confess to the police so that she could relinquish Guardianship. I hope her Bensonhurst trip doesn’t add to Sashas problems. Hope Sonny gets time before eloping to talk to Sasha.

I’m sure that Sonny was already talking to his lawyer Diane Miller (also Sasha’s lawyer) about how to legally get Sasha out of this ridiculous guardianship. Sonny’s unfortunately missed a lot of things he shouldn’t have since he returned from Tricky Dick Nixon Falls, but this detail isn’t the type of thing he would miss.

I’m also thinking Sonny is going to take exception to Gladys selling the garage to Selina Wu to pay off the gambling debts. If a Devil remembers correctly, Sonny set up Brando as the defacto “owner” of the garage (since Brando did not want to directly work in the “coffee” business) but Sonny always remained a “silent” partner in the garage… so it wasn’t really Gladys’s place to sell it, if that were the case.

Pam
Bensonhurst is in NY, area of Brooklyn where Olivia comes from, Gladys comes from Bridgeport, Connecticut where she’s being sent back to.

I’m very upset that Sasha didn’t get to press charges for what Glady did. What will Sasha live on, now that Glady blew all her money.

I’m sure Sasha won’t be hurting for money even if she doesn’t recover everything that Gladys stole.

Although Gladys stole Sasha money to pay her debt and to go on shopping sprees it was never said that she spent all of Sasha’s money. Hopefully, Gladys didn’t bankrupt her.

Bonnie is a fabulous actress and I have a feeling she’ll be back.

No she got off too easy!

I agree.

I was hoping she’d have to confess to authorities at least. She’ll probably be written back in…. she’ll be under the thumbs or Cyrus or Selina.

It’s not done yet. Anything could happen to her. It’s wait and see. Just hope they give Sasha som

No Gladys did not get what she deserved. She should have been put in jail. She committed a host of crimes. She got off Scott free. She can live her life without paying for anything.

Not really. She still owes Selina Wu a ton of money, and Selina will not forget this. She will spend the rest of her life looking over her shoulder…unless, by some miracle, she takes down Selina and gets redemption.

Wait a minute, they need Gladys as a corroborating witness against evil Doctor M to help Sasha prove the kidnapping and drugging and attempted murder. Also, could have a case against Selina Wu for blackmail with Gladys help. That might be a way to get Sasha’s money back from Selina. Still, very glad they finally stopped torturing poor Sasha. Let her be happy for a while.

You make a lot of good points here. What are they just going to take Sonny’s word and all the others that Gladys took all Sasha’s money and violated her custodial rights with Sasha’s money?

Now that the writer’s strike is over I believe we will get changes and turns–I’m waiting to see how they will correct and turn things..

Oh Violet, they may as well take Sonny’s word, since the whole town is practically worshiping at his feet already. Did you see the way Dante just gazes on him with eyes of pure adulation? Hell, even diehard Michael has drunk the KoolAid, forgiving Sonny left and right, looking at him beatifically. What rubbish!

As I ‘ve said, I lived years ago in Bridgeport, in fact my two kids were born there over 60 years ago. Have no idea what it’s like today, while I enjoy sunny Cali. As for the question asked above, no I certainly won’t miss her character but I’ve always thought she’s a lovely woman, wouldn’t mind seeing her in a nice part.

Hi Violet..

Bonnie is a very good actress.. She aroused emotions, made me mad, and wanted revenge, she portrayed Gladis very well….She was a spark that made fires..

You have two children, boys or girls, uuumm men or women ???

They sent her off to live somewhere else so I suspect she is gone but not forgotten, maybe a new story for her down the line. She played a fantastic mess of a villain. She’s a great actress and I’m going to miss her!

It would have been more palatable to force Gladys to face Sasha and testify against that low down doctor. However, we still have to think about Selena Wu’s involvement and how Sonny would and could handle her. Could surely have escalated to an all out mafia war.

Gladys should have went to JAIL ! She got away with what she did. Just hope Selina Wu catches up to her wherever she is and makes her pay.. She deserves it!

I was very glad to see the character go, but not the actress who really is very talented. Bonnie said the fans would be pleased with the ending, but that could not be further from the truth.
I wanted a last showdown with Sasha and for Sonny to bring her to the PCPD himself on the first leg of there trip to Pentonville. I somehow can’t see the PCPD let her get away with embezzlement just because she is Sonny’s family, and I’m sure the Dr will have a LOT to s

I’m glad Gladys was caught when Sonny found out what she did did Sasha

I would have liked to see her go to prison and join Cyrus She is a great actress so I wanted her to stay

In a surprise move, Daytime Emmy winner, Chad Duell (ex-Michael Corinthos, GH) is getting ready to unveil a new chapter of his career in music.

The former GH star, where he played the son of Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) and Carly Spencer (Laura Wright) for 15 years, has announced his new single, “If You Need Me” will drop on Friday, June 26. The single is now available for pre-order on Spotify and major music streaming platforms and is distributed by DistroKid.

Taking to his Instagram story over the weekend, to announce the pre-save of his new single, Chad expressed, “I’ll make a full post about what I’ve been up to and my music once it goes live next week, but you can pre-save my first single so it goes straight to your Spotify once it drops next week.”

SINCE LEAVING GENERAL HOSPITAL

Previously, since his departure from the ABC soap opera. Chad starred alongside Zach Mendez in the world premiere of of Yum Yum at Annapolis, a new play written by Bruce Reisman. Duell last appeared on General Hospital on the January 21, 2025 episode.

The part was recast with Rory Gibson who debuted as the new Michael in May of 2025 during the Nurses’ Ball episodes and who has remained in the role since that time.

In an interview earlier this year on The Able Show, Duell said on his decision to exit the soap opera, “I was blessed to be part of that (show) for as long as I have, but what happens sometimes is if you’re doing the same thing, especially in a creative field for such a long time, you can get a little burnt out in a way. It can make you a little depressed, so that’s kind of what happened. On top of that, I had other things going on in my life at the time. My father passed away recently and I just needed a reset. So, I stepped away. A lot of times you have to go through some stuff to really step into that next level. I needed to kind of feel uncomfortable.”

So, what type of musical genre will Chad’s new song be? Country? Pop? Rock? Dance/Club? Something else? Let us know your thoughts via the comment section below, and if you are eager to hear the new single next week via the comment section below.

‘General Hospital’s’ Dominic Zamprogna Reflects on Dante’s Guilt for the ‘Atrocity’ That Happened to Michael Which Kept Everyone From Telling Him the Truth About Rocco (Exclusive)

Published

on

By

On recent episodes of General Hospital, acting PCPD commissioner, Dante Falconeri (Dominic Zamprogna) was the last to know when his ex-wife Lulu (Alexa Havins), his cop/friend “Nathan,” (Ryan Paevey) and his son, Rocco (Finn Carr) kept him in the dark from learning that Rocco actually shot WSB director, Ross Cullum (Andrew Hawkes). That, set off a chain of events leading to Rocco joining Britt Westbourne (Kelly Thiebaud) and going on the run from Port Charles.

However, what led to everyone being so secretive and keeping the truth from Dante stems, in part, to what happened back in 2010. In story, Michael Corinthos (then played by Chad Duell) was brutally assaulted and rape by his prison inmate, Carter (Josh Wingate). Michael went to prison when his brother, Dante, then a PCPD detective, forced Michael to testify in court about killing his stepmother, Claudia Zacchara (Sarah Brown). That testimony resulted in Michael being sentenced to prison for manslaughter.

In early 2011, Michael admitted out loud to Jason (Steve Burton) for the first time that he was raped. The guilt of that situation has plagued Dante for years, and fast-forward 16 years later, it’s still very much alive in Dante’s character life as explained by Dominic Zamprogna in his recent interview on the Michael Fairman Channel.

Courtesy/ABC

RORY GIBSON RECAST WAS PERFECT TIME TO BRING BACK THE STORY POINT

Zamprogna spoke of Dante’s son current plight, and how it dovetails into the past for the acting police commissioner. “The situation with Rocco is just this awful scenario that this kid is in and wanting to try and do the best for him. The other thing I liked too was from the other people’s perspectives of Dante in the past, he kind of did right by the law, not by the people, or put too much faith in the law, and expected it to work out for the people he loved, and it didn’t. So, it gave them a reason for keeping things from him as well.”

The five-time Daytime Emmy nominee shared it’s important to remember things in the history of the character you play. When GH decided to recast the role of Michael Corinthos with Rory Gibson on-screen in May of 2025, it was the perfect time to remind viewers of what happened all those years ago.

“The idea that when you’re on a show this long, I do think about those elements because there’s so much story. The scenes that I think of immediately with the Michael situation was with Chad gone, and then Rory came in. They (the writers) chose that moment to kind of literally say in the dialogue when we were at the Quartermaines, ‘You’ve changed since you came back from Europe, and you’re a different guy and you’re darker.’ I think I said all these things. Frank Valentini (executive producer, GH) calls (Rory’s version) ‘Dark Michael.’ It’s true.”

DANTE’S GUILT OVER MICHAEL’S BRUTAL PRISON ASSAULT LINGERS

“That was the first time my character brought that up in what had happened to Michael so long ago. I’d love to play those beats more often. You can’t beat that to death, because it was 16 years ago, but you also can’t act like it never happened. Sometimes in the world that we live in, the soap world, you do act like things don’t happen because how could people carry on with that kind of guilt, you know? Every time I looked at Michael, Dante would feel responsible for the atrocity that happened to him. So, there’s a balance. You can’t think about it every time, but you definitely have to acknowledge it. This was the perfect time to acknowledge it with the character of Michael because of the recast.”

Now over the last several months, Dante was kept from the truth all stemming back to that moment. Zamprogna recalled, “It was the first kind of domino that fell in bringing back that history. Then, you had Britt coming back and that brought back that history of the embryo with Dante and Lulu. It was fun to be able to play pissed-off with these people who I love. So, you got to play the love underneath and the anger on top, and it was all because of his past. So, it all kind of brought things back and it completed something.”

CAN LULU AND DANTE FIND ROCCO AND BRITT IN TIME?

At the end of Friday’s June 19 cliffhanger, Dante and Lulu learned from “Nathan” where Rocco and Britt are hiding out and take off to find their son. How will that go? Can the execs get along for the sake of their son? Stay tuned.

In case you missed our conversation with Dominic Zamprogna  you can check it out in full below.

Do you believe, given what happened with Michael Corinthos in the past, everyone had the right to hide what happened to Rocco from Dante? What do you remember from the harrowing story of Michael’s rape in prison by Carter? Share your thoughts via the comment section below.

Finola Hughes First Airdate Back to ‘General Hospital’ Revealed: But What Will Be the State of Anna Devane’s Mental Health?

Published

on

By

The highly-anticipated return of Daytime Emmy winner, Finola Hughes (Anna Devane) to General Hospital is just around the corner. It’s next week! Anna’s back starting with the Wednesday June 24 episode of the ABC daytime drama series.

Hughes has been off the soap opera on-screen since February. Now, the question becomes, when viewers see Anna, will she be in the same condition she was when we last saw her? Believing Cesar Faison is alive, and traumatized from the hallucinogenic drugs she was served up from Cullum (Andrew Hawkes), Sidwell (Carlo Rota) and company while held captive at Wyndemere?

Anna was last seen in a mental clinic in France, but also left word of her captivity on the wall inside the secret room at Wyndemere where Josslyn (Eden McCoy) and Obrecht (Kathleen Gati) are now being held against their will, too!

Photo: ABC

ANNA ON HER WAY BACK TO PORT CHARLES?

Even though Finola Hughes has not been on the canvas for months, Anna has certainly been talked about. In fact, super spy Anna, nearly escaped and made it as far as Switzerland before being recaptured. Since that time she is said to be housed at a high-security institution. We were then told that Congresswoman Willow Cain (Katelyn MacMullen) went to bat for Anna with the authorities overseas, and had her transferred to a more comfortable facility.

How will Valentin Cassadine (James Patrick Stuart) play into saving Anna? We know he flipped out after learning what was happening and tried to phone the facility as Dr. Kevin Collins, but that backfired making him public enemy number one with the WSB.

Here’s what to look for on episodes featuring Finola Hughes on her first week back below:

On Wednesday, June 24 official General Hospital spoilers share: Anna meets with her doctor. Carly makes a stunning confession. Britt extracts a promise. Cullum pulls a fast one. Gio and Emma hit the pool.

Then, when we next see Anna on the Friday, June 26 episode, official GH spoilers add: Anna takes a huge risk. Britt is in grave danger. Willow is in disbelief. Danny must act fast. Curtis jumps to the wrong conclusion.

ANNA/VALENTIN/CARLY

In addition, General Hospital co-head writers, Elizabeth Korte and Chris Van Etten teased summer story to Soap Opera Digest, including some intel on Anna’s return to Port Charles. The scribes shared that Anna’s presence doesn’t mean that Rocco (Finn Carr) is out of the woods for shooting Cullum, and that Britt (Kelly Thiebaud) would face some hard questions from the super spy as well, plus a major decision made by Jason (Steve Burton) is said to have big implications for Anna.

There is also the fact that while Anna was in a mental facility in France, Carly (Laura Wright) and Valentin have become lovers and developed feelings for one another while in Port Charles. Will a triangle ensue? Stay tuned.

So, what do you think will be Anna’s mental state when viewers see her next week on GH? Will she be OK? Suffer from PTSD? Be faking it at this point, or be a changed woman? Weigh-in via the comment section below.
