BREAKING: IS ABC about to cancel both One Life to Live & All My Children?

Could things get any darker for the daytime genre than this! The Internet is abuzz this afternoon and this evening with a huge report and item from TV Guide’s legendary soap journalist extraordinare, Michael Logan, that says he has heard from very reliable buzz that ABC is about to cancel both One Life to Live and All My Children in the very near future!
Here is what Logan goes on to say, “Word is, ABC Daytime chief Brian Frons has a talk show and reality show lined up for fall — both of them much cheaper to produce than soaps — and he needs to clear the schedule. More disturbing, insiders say Frons has been extremely cavalier about all this, showing no signs of sorrow or regret about a drastic decision that will leave General Hospital as the network’s only daytime soap. When contacted for comment, ABC Daytime PR chief Jori Petersen told us, “I have no announcement, and these are just rumors that you are hearing. I am sorry to hear that they’re escalating but I cannot confirm anything.”
We will keep you posted as this ongoing story develops! And we pray we do not lose truly one of the best soaps on the air One Life to Live, and one of the legacy soaps, All My Children.

51st Daytime Emmys: Mark Consuelos and Kelly Ripa Receive Talk Show Host Nominations
On Thursday, nominations were announced in the Outstanding Talk Show category for the upcoming 51st annual Daytime Emmy Awards.
Mark Consuelos (ex-Mateo, All My Children) coming off his first-year as co-host of ‘Live” with real-life wife, Kelly Ripa scored his first Talk Show Host nomination along with Ripa who has been nominated previous times.
Joining Mark and Kelly in the race are: Joy Behar, Whoopi Goldberg, Alyssa Farah Griffin, Sara Haines, Sunny Hostin, Ana Navarro, The View
Kelly Clarkson, The Kelly Clarkson Show, Akbar Gbajabiamila, Amanda Kloots, Natalie Morales, Jerry O’Connell, Sheryl Underwood, The Talk and
Tamron Hall, Tamron Hall.

As previously reported, The Talk is coming to its end when its upcoming 15th and final season ends in December of 2024.
The 51st annual Daytime Emmys are slated to be broadcast and stream live on CBS and Paramount+ on Friday night, June 7th

Mark Consuelos Celebrates One-Year Anniversary as Co-Host of ‘Live’ Alongside Kelly Ripa
Today, April 17th marks a full-year since Mark Consuelos (ex-Mateo, All My Children) took over the co-hosting duties of ‘Live” alongside his wife, and longtime co-host, Kelly Ripa (ex-Hayley, All My Children).
Consuelos replaced Ryan Seacrest who are six seasons decided to be back on the west coast full-time. For Consuelos, now having the opportunity to work off of Ripa as co-hosts has been something of adjustment for him, but viewers have been eating it up.
Live with Kelly and Mark has remained the No. 1 entertainment talk show on television over the past year, growing 3% in average total viewers to 2.23M per episode. It is also the most-watched daytime talk show in the last year in key demos of women 18-49 and women 25-54. All of this, since the real-life marrieds teamed-up.

Speaking with Deadline, Kelly Ripa shared why the two are gelling on-screen, “I do think that there is something very possibly relatable about our relationship. We have disagreements like a normal couple, and we’re not afraid to let them unfold on the air and in front of America, and I think people find a lot of themselves in that.”
Mark weighed in how he has progressed as a host, and what he could improve at, sharing, “I’d like to get better at my interviewing skills. I’d like to get better at reading a teleprompter…I think I’m getting better at throwing to commercial. The other day in the middle of the show as we go to commercial, my sign off was ‘See you guys around.’ I mean, the show wasn’t over. The most obvious thing to say would be, ‘We’ll be back right after this.’ But I just said, ‘See you around.’ So we went to commercial and one of the producers (goes) ‘What was that?’ I don’t know… So for the next few sign offs, as a joke, I’d say ‘See you around.’ We got a kick out of it.”

Meanwhile, Kelly has given huge props to Mark, “I find Mark utterly compelling, really interesting, super funny, and he’s bold in a way like nobody else. He says what’s on his mind. If he’s thinking it, he says it. I’ve done this a long time and oftentimes people will adjust their natural personalities to pander to what they think the audience wants to hear, and Mark will tell people what he thinks, and he doesn’t care if it’s not a popular opinion. It gives him an edginess that I think is really missing in the landscape today. Everybody’s so afraid to say anything, and Mark is unafraid to say exactly what he’s thinking.”

All My Children
Susan Lucci Joins the Cast of Jonah Hill’s Movie ‘Outcome’
Look who will be part of the ensemble cast in motion picture and film star Jonah Hill’s new film project! That’s right, none other than Susan Lucci (ex-Erica, All My Children).
According to Deadline, the daytime television icon joins other notables including Laverne Cox and David Spade who have been added to the cast of Outcome. The film stars Keanu Reeves, Matt Bomer (ex-Ben, Guiding Light) and Cameron Diaz.
In Outcome, which is written by, and will be directed by Hill, the dark comedy centers around Reef (played by Reeves), a damaged Hollywood star who must dive into the dark depths of his past to confront his demons and make amends after he is extorted with a mysterious video clip from his past.

Soap fans know that following her iconic run as All My Children’s Erica Kane, Susan went on to be featured in Lifetime’s Devious Maids in the role of Genevieve Delatour. Since her Pine Valley days ended (when AMC was canceled in 2012), Susan has appeared in numerous shows and made numerous appearances. n December of 2023, Lucci was awarded the Daytime Emmy Lifetime Achievement Award.

Outcome will debut on Apple and is an Apple Studios production. The film marks the latest collaboration for Hill and Apple Original Films, who are also developing a Grateful Dead biopic with Martin Scorsese’s Sikelia Productions, to be directed by Scorsese, with Hill starring in it and as one of the producers of the project, as well.

Does ABC really think anyone will continue to watch Daytime TV if these shows go? Do they really think anyone will watch replacements? FYI ABC those of us who watch Daytime also watch Primetime, so the bad press and bad feelings will carry over into Primetime too.
What Frons does not get is these show and the characters are like our family. Erica Kane, Victoria Lord etc are not replaceable. The other reality is, we Soap fans are still here. All you have to do is look at Twitter, FB, Youtube, the web etc to see all the chatter that continues from fans who still watch their shows.
If ABC was smart they’d: Send out a press release renewing each show for 5 more years, promote them in Primetime, and bring back Ryan’s Hope. That is what I said bring back Ryan’s Hope with Kate Mulgrew as Mary. Mary who has been in witness protection and returns to save her bar and neighborhood from a developer. That right there would create so much great press for ABC on TV News, Print, Twitter, FB, and online ABC could ride the wave for years.
So ABC, instead of scaring fans that their show and extended family may end, why don’t you use your powers for good, and make people want to tune into ABC, Daytime and Primetime.
I couldn’t have said it better myself. Frons said(at one time)that they take care of their soaps. Not so much. If he did, there wouldn’t be these rumors going around. You should send this to Frons.

I totally agree! I almost fell out of desk chair this morning when I heard it via online radio. I say boycott the supposed new shows, and boycott the prime time shows. The ABC exec’s continually forget that we, the viewers are who they should be kneeling before. If it wasn’t for us they wouldn’t have a network. But they constantly bow down to corporate advertisers who don’t even watch the shows. I say boycott ABC until they come to their senses and renew OLTL and AMC for another five years like Sally stated on april 1st.
I totally agree. I have been watching ABC Soaps since 1968 – yes that’s right 1968. I was 10 years old and would come home from school, turn on ABC and wait for Dark Shadows to come on. I have been watching AMC and OLTL since they first started. I cannot believe that ABC has treated these shows with such disrespect.
I can’t believe it, except it’s rumors?! I have been a fan of ABC’s soaps since childhood. Dark Shadows Amen… I have DVD’s and VHS of DS. Please, please do not cancel our soaps. I saw the front of Soap Opera Digest last week. I couldn’t believe it. I thought tabloid posting.
I totally agree i watch abc from GMA to Nightline but i never miss my soaps oltl is my favorite but i like amc also i sometimes watch regis rachael and the view but I NEVER MISS MY SOAPS ANOTHER REALITY SHOW DAYTIME ARE THEY KIDDING ME ANOTHER TALK SHOW i will just boycott abc totally no more eyewitness news that i love gryes private practice bros and sisters etc etc etc bye bye ABC BYE BYE ABC oltl has the most talented actors on the planet acting dancing singer comedy i have started a petition to save oltl you will be making a huge mistake wake up and smell the starbucks

This news is outrageous. Everyone who has been a lover and fan of these two soaps, should be up in arms and have a major protest in LA. Unfortunately, I don’t live on tne West Coast, but many of you do. We certainly don’t need another lousy talk show or reality one, either. When do all TPTB plan to cut the cord? Are they going to let the current stories play out? There is no redeeming value in another reality show. I’m really hating this. Stand up and shout loud, fans!…..
Again,if any of these shows go,it should definitely be GH(A.K.A “The Sonny Corinthos Mobster Hour”). Once S.C. came on and Jason lost his memory and,apparently,his mind,that’s when the show jumped the shark and lost me as a viewer.
Cancel GH instead,it’s not worth it. I’ve tried several times in the past ten years to get back into it,but i just can’t watch anymore. Long live AMC & OLTL.

I agree, we need to protect all of them. ABC should follow CBS, at least CBS is doing everything it can to protect The Bold and the Beautiful and The Young and the Restless. The are opening their market to Spanish speaking countries. Why can’t ABC do the same, as well open the market to Canadians and other countries. On you tube I constantly read comments from Europe asking for the same programs. I agree with the others the last thing we need is another reality show or talk show. If I want to see a train wreck or talk about my feelings, I’ll call friends and family.

I don’t believe it. This is why: First of all, Susan Lucci said in two video interviews that I watched that AMC is not being canceled. She said she also has her script for year. Second, OLTL is doing a real-life storyline about bullying that AS is getting awarded for. Nobody really believes these rumors. Has Michael Logan forgotten that today is April Fool ‘s Day. If this is his idea of a joke, it is not funny. Susan Lucci also said on those same two interviews that the rumors were started by a blogger who said that the ratings were down for AMC last week and therefore it was being canceled. If Michael Logan’s so-called source is this not reliable blogger than they are bjoth wrong. Nobody likes Brian Frons anyway. Why not do us a huge favor and fire this guy. He doesn’t need to be in this business anyway. He doesn’t know or understand anything about soaps, characters, or what it takes to make them work.
Networks lie to their employees all the time. ABC just lied and said it didn’t fire Rebecca Herbst. Of course, Bob Guza just admitted to Michael Logan that, in fact, ABC had fired Herbst and rehired her after fan backlash.

I understand that it is all about cost cutting, and a talk show or a reality show are much cheaper to make than a soap opera, BUT if you don’t have many people tuning in, what are you saving??????? Take away ANY of the three ABC daytime soaps and whatever you replace them with will not be successful, as ABC Soaps have a very loyal fan base, who have been following them for many, many years, and will never follow their replacements. Not to mention the CBS soap fans, many who have migrated over to ABC Soaps, since some of those soap stars have joined the ABC Soaps (now that was a smart move), hence the already extremely large fan base is still growing. By the way, imo, there are already way too many talk shows and reality shows on TV, many of which are gone in a blink of an eye. ABC soaps are a staple of ABC Daytime, and taking any of them away will absolutely put a huge dark cloud over ABC programming garnering countless viewers jumping ship for sure. I truly hope this is yet another foolish rumor and nothing more.

I guess the publishing world will be seeing an increase in sales this year if, they cancel AMC and OLTL.
Unfortunately, I believe that this is true. Both Logan and Nikki Finke are credible sources and neither would report something of this nature unless they were convinced that their info was correct.
ABC has likely seen the success that CBS has had replacing their costly soaps with cheaper programming. Despite soap fans stating that they would never watch CBS Daytime again, people (soap fans or new viewers) are still watching. The ratings may not be the equivalent of the soaps but, since the shows are much cheaper, the overall effect is more profit for CBS. ABC is a business and they could care less about the emotional reactions of their fans; their only goal is to maximize profits for their shareholders.
My gut says that this is a done deal. I feel terrible for the cast and crew of these shows – many of whom have been working at their respective show for years. The other remaining soaps had better take heed because they are going to be next.
CBS only Three and a Half Men. Which isn’t even a good show, well I guess if you like vulgarity then. As for the other so call “money ” makers, The Big Bang Theory isn’t as popular as it used to be during season one because, CBS is now offering it online. Even more of an indicator that sales are down. And the only other profitable show is NCIS original.
CBS is a realty show network. ABC used to be a show network that listened to their viewers.

Do u realize what your about to do..If you plan on canceling AMC and OLTL ..you will change the history of daytime forever. We do not want more talk shows or reality shows. We have so many now, BORING !! Keep all the soaps that are left on ….ABC & Disney have enough funds to keep them going. I’ve never written to a network before, but I am beyond upset about this possible horror show that might happen….KEEP AMC alive..and all the soaps….Thanks for letting me vent – Laura Coppola

I should hope they dont cancel AMC or OLTL they are both great soaps with great storylines and a great cast of actors. Alot of people enjoy tuning in as well as the entertainment. ABC would be making a huge mistake I think if they were to cancel these shows. Many many people enjoy these 2 soaps. You’ would have many disappointed people Not fair ither to the talented cast. They would all be out of work. Not right …. Save AMC and OLTL.

The only reason I turn on the TV during the day is to watch my ABC soaps. If they were not on, I would not watch network television during the day at all.
I do not watch reality TV or Talk Shows at anytime, with the exception of late night comedy talk shows so I certainly won’t watch them during the day. I have better things to do.
Guess I will start watching Y&TR, where I can see my alltime favorites, Stephen Nichols, Tristan Rogers, Kin Shriner and Genie Francies.

Pleas do not take One Life to Live off the air. I only watch two soaps on Soap Net, that one and General Hospital. They have become a staple in my life.
I look forward every week night from 9:00-11:00 to watching both of these shows after I get off of work.
When they go off on Friday night, I look forward to Monday.

For those of us who love daytime dramas this would force me to protest and not watch anything on abc.. I’m sick of talk shows and all the reality crap like we really need another reality show..
Did anyone bother to look at the date this was submitted? Granted this could be true, but I do love a good April Fools joke that gets everyone hyped up.
If ABC decides to take OLTL off the air, then daytime soaps are about to go the way of the dinosaur…it’s the best soap on television – period.
I could not agree with you more. “One Life” has become my must-see TV, and really has been since I started my soap habit once more in 2008. I temporarily gave them up, but now that I have a DVR it makes it that much easier to follow all THREE of my ABC stories. Soaps are also original in that they don’t take summers off, there aren’t WEEKS in between original episodes (Hello, Prime-Time!!)… if even ONE of these soaps goes down, I’m never watching ABC Daytime again. I could even give up GREY’S, DESP. HOUSEWIVES, DANCING W’ THE STARS… I’m prepared to boycott EVERYTHING on the network. That’s what I did when NBC axed “Another World” (I only watched “Friends”) and look at where NBC is now. In the toilet.

I thought I would die when Another World went off the air,I only watch Days of our live’s now,and when Bryan Dattilo/Lucas Horton went off the show last year,I have not watched a soap sence then and for over 45 years,I will never watch another soap as long as I live,we love soaps and we fans watch them and then the actors and charecters we love are all but gone and we never see or hear from them ever again,its so sad,my heart cant take it any more.
NBC is trying to save Days Of Our Lives,they are on till 2013 and going for 2015 and that will give then 50 years,I hope they make it,I hope they all make it,

These lingering, persistent rumors are making me feel desperately ill & terribly pessimistic!
If it’s about money, why ABC did waste it on moving “All My Children” to Los Angeles? Does Brian Frons understand that he’s insulting the loyal viewers of ABC Daytime, by putting additional talk shows that no one will watch and/or reality shows that are meant for primetime?
Who and where can we write to in order to prevent OLTL & AMC from getting cancelled?
