BREAKING NEWS: ABC Confirms deal struck! AMC and OLTL will live on online!!

It is true soapers!  What the New York Post reported late last evening IS becoming a reality!  It has now been confirmed this morning with an official press release from ABC that a deal has been struck between ABC to license its soaps, All My Children and One Life to Live to the production media company, Prospect Park and the soaps will live on and continue after their ABC airdates in an online platform!

Below is the the official press release just announced by ABC, so you can read all the details!

Official release: “ABC has licensed its iconic soaps, All My Children and One Life to Live to Prospect Park, it was announced today by Brian Frons, President, Daytime, Disney/ABC Television Group & Janice Marinelli, President, Disney/ABC Domestic Television and Rich Frank & Jeff Kwatinetz of Prospect Park.  The exclusive multi-year, multi-platform deal enables the soaps’ stories to continue beyond their finale dates on ABC.  ABC will broadcast its final episode of All My Children on Friday, September 23rd and will air the final episode of One Life to Live in January, 2012.

The licensing agreement, brokered by Disney/ABC Domestic Television Group, enables Prospect Park to continue production of All My Children and One Life to Live beyond their life on ABC. Prospect Park will produce and deliver the two long-running programs to consumers via online formats and additional emerging platforms including internet enabled television sets. Under the terms of the arrangement, the programs will continue to be delivered with the same quality and in the same format and length.  Additional details of the new productions and tune-in will be forthcoming from Prospect Park.

“We are privileged to continue the legacy of two of the greatest programs to air on daytime television, and are committed to delivering the storylines, characters and quality that audiences have come to love for over 40 years. All My Children and One Life to Live are television icons, and we are looking forward to providing anytime, anywhere viewing to their loyal community of millions,” said Frank and Kwatinetz. “Technology changes the way the public can and will view television shows.  Now that there are so many devices available in addition to television sets, viewers are taking advantage of watching shows wherever they are and on any number of devices.  The driving force in making the switch and attracting new audiences is to have outstanding programs that people want to watch. We believe that by continuing to produce the shows in their current hour format and with the same quality, viewers will follow the show to our new, online network.”

All My Children and One Life to Live are iconic pieces of television history that captivated millions of fans since their beginning over 40 years ago,” said Frons. “Each of the shows have made an indelible mark on our culture’s history and informed our consciousness in their own way.  We are so glad Prospect Park has assumed the mantel for these shows and that they will continue for the fans.”

Marinelli continued, “From the time the shift in the daytime strategy was announced, our hope was to find a new home for these treasured shows.   We are thrilled to license them to Prospect Park so the stories of life in Pine Valley and Llanview can continue to be told for the passionate and loyal fans that enjoy watching each day.”

“I’m just so happy that ABC found a home where the legacies of ‘All My Children’ and ‘One Life to Live’ can continue.  I’m excited for their future with Prospect Park,” added Agnes Nixon, creator of both AMC and OLTL.  “It takes a lot of living to make a soap opera a serial, and the wonderful teams on both shows have done just that. Together, we are a big family that keeps going, and I’m looking forward to working alongside these wonderful people as we ensure that the shows will continue with all the love and excitement we’ve always had.  I also am so happy for our loyal fans, whom we love so much, and who have been so supportive over the last 40 plus years.”

Prospect Park is a media and production company founded in 2009 by entertainment industry veterans Jeffrey Kwatinetz and former Disney Studios head Rich Frank. Along with successful film and music divisions, the company’s television group has numerous shows in development and breakout network hits airing, including Royal Pains and Wilfred.

In April, ABC announced that it was expanding the focus of its daytime lineup to include more programming that is informative and authentic and centers on transformation, food and lifestyle.  “The Chew,” an innovative and groundbreaking daily talk show that celebrates and explores life through food, will premiere on September 26th.  “The Revolution,” a daily show about health and lifestyle transformations, will replace One Life to Live in January 2012.”

It is a shame that certain soap fans was belittling and harassing a certain soap fan of her beliefs of getting ABC to release their rights to the soaps for a lower cost. She had the only Group on Facebook of this nature… One Fan was threatened by her ideologies he chased her off Facebook with his following members… She started this group 5 weeks ago! I am proud and thankful ABC listened to the fans while one Fan wanted to be glorified in saving the soaps when it was all those who participated… He berated and belittled people on… Read more »

That is nice news and all. But I am for everyone viewing them. I still have a lack of trust with ABC Disney because they were the ones that started bashing soap fans in the first place. I dont know who you are referencing, but many soap fans have been united on Facebook. But I want them viewed by everyone, not just online viewers. But this is a start.

yep, i know ‘the guy’ you are refering to. I’ll say his name Silas Kain, it was his way or the highway, anyone that questioned him got fried, and he demanded loyalty from everyone. he had the attitude that if you weren’t 100 % with him, you must be against him and he would break out in a rant and turn his followers on you. he is a classic bully. he thought only his ideas were valid.
What a stinker!

She didn’t come up with the idea of sell at a lower cost, Someone else did and I know who it was. She went around editing Docs to make them look like hers, when all the comments clearly pointed out whos idea it was as well as who the event was created by. I’ll go ahead and state her name since people are tossing out names. Dee Anna Jones and Darlene January was the true “bullies” and “backstabbers”. I know you two are “supposedly related” But I don’t believe that. I think you two are one and the same. My… Read more »

This is not an accurate description of Silas Kain. He’s a good man who has selflessly devoted the past decade to protecting the Soap Opera Genre. We do know however, that there are those who’ve tried many times to derail efforts to promote the preservation of the genre. There are those who are in it, simply to make a name for themselves and then those who wish only to do whatever they can to help. Speaking of those who only seeked attention; when all your efforts got you banned from most of the groups on facebook, you sought to make… Read more »

You, Darlene are the bully. I know Dee Anna and Darlene personally, they are two different people and have proof and pictures of both. I am also family! I don’t care about soaps and could care less if they do or don’t air. Keep talking smack because the ones who keep up the disrespect for either one of these young ladies are the ones who are showing their true colors and who are the real bullies in this situation to the readers. I am in Silas’ crosshairs now too. Guess I’m not alone. He announced the day the rumor broke about Prospect Park acquiring the rights to AMC and OLTL that is was a lie and not to be believed. I don’t think he enjoyed the egg on his face when the official confirmation came out. He quickly mobilized his lemmings to brand anyone happy about this news as “selfish” and we were quickly indoctrinated about the need to carry on his ill-conceived coupon campaign for a cable soap channel. Does anyone believe a cable company will actually launch a new channel… Read more »

If there’s a golf channel, why shouldn’t there be a soap channel? I’m in this for Guiding Light & Another World & to save the soaps as a genre, not specifically just OLTL & AMC. I’m sorry that there has been so much bad blood between people, but quite frankly, everyone should be working together to save the genre, not petty arguments over who said what to who or about whom. OLTL & AMC were one battle. A soap channel would be the war. I’ve heard enough of the details of the coupon campaign that I am happy to support… Read more »

I agree with you Georgette and to think they think I am you. My real name is Karen! But for their information they need to read the following: Many states have enacted “cyberharassment” laws or have laws that explicitly include electronic forms of communication within more traditional stalking or harassment laws. In addition, recent concerns about protecting minors from online bullying or harassment have led states to enact “cyberbullying” laws. This chart identifies only state laws that include specific references to electronic communication. VERY interesting. I hope that this is a successful venture for all involved. I remember how upset fans were when the move from regular TV to DirectTV didn’t work out so well for Passions. I’d like to hope that people learned from any mistakes made with that strategy. I’ll reserve judgment until after the move for AMC and OLTL happens and the fans tune in. Or don’t.

I’m curious to see how many of the cast of AMC will stay on the show with this new format. I’m sure the cast will have to be streamlined as will the salaries. With Zach returning to PV, will the actor remain on the show and relocate or will it be recast? I like Kendall and Griff together and hope they remain together. I don’t think we should give the boycott up just yet until we see exactly what this deal entails. this is definitely a win for us, but this is a battle won, and not the war IMO. the details of this is still pretty hush0hush and Frons had said OLTL and AMC were safe from cancellation just weeks before he cancelled them. This may be to placate us for a while so I feel it’s still extremely important to continue the boycotting.

I think it’s awesome, SMART Soaps! Online is the way of the future. Look at the business models for Netflix and Hulu. I know VENICE and the other Web soaps are now eligible for new format Emmys. I suspect that if the show remains daily and an hourlong there will be changes in Emmy eligibility before too long to allow the dailies to compete against the dailies, etc, and the limited season ones to compete against the limited season ones. But it will probably be strained for a year or two while they figure it out.

My time is precious to me so I prefer selective entertainment viewing, that includes that I have watched One Life To Live for past three years only on You Tube and sometimes HULU. As a long-standing viewer of these Soaps and (for some years now) an expat, I have been able to keep up with my ‘habit’ thanks to YouTube. Initially, this sounds wonderful, but the quality of OLTL depends on continuing with the same producer, cast, and crew in New York. Please maintain OLTL intact and bring back Trevor St. John, Robin Strasser, and Gina Tognoni. While you are working on this, come up with a storyline to bring back Gigi (and Farah, or reincarnate her as another character), who never should have been killed off in the first place.

I am afraid to get my hopes up, after everything that has happened within the last couple of months. Please make this work.

Michael B. Jordan Pays Tribute To Chadwick Boseman: “Since Nearly The Beginning Of My Career, Starting with All My Children When I was 16 Years Old You Paved The Way For Me”

Following the news of the tragic death of now motion picture icon, Chadwick Boseman late Friday, tributes and sentiments have poured in from celebrities, politicians and fans from all across the world.

Chadwick Boseman passed away late last week at the age of 43 from colon cancer – a battle he kept silent about for the last four years of life.

No one could be more intertwined with Boseman’s career than that of his fellow Black Panther star, Michael B. Jordan.  For Jordan took over the role of Reggie Porter on All My Children from Boseman after the late actor lasted one week, following standing up to, and addressing concerns, of racial stereotypes in the way that the part was written.  Reggie was introduced to Pine Valley as a gang member in 2003.  As previously reported it was Boseman who helped the soap opera improve the role that Jordan took over with some recommendations.

Now Michael B. Jordan has written a heartfelt remembrance of Chadwick that he shared on his Instagram, and what he has meant to his life, including how he showed him how to be better, to honor purpose and create legacy.

Read below Michael’s post:

“I’ve been trying to find the words, but nothing comes close to how I feel. I’ve been reflecting on every moment, every conversation, every laugh, every disagreement, every hug…everything.

I wish we had more time.

One of the last times we spoke, you said we were forever linked , and now the truth of that means more to me than ever. Since nearly the beginning of my career, starting with All My Children when I was 16 years old you paved the way for me. You showed me how to be better, honor purpose, and create legacy. And whether you’ve known it or not…I’ve been watching, learning and constantly motivated by your greatness.

I wish we had more time.

Everything you’ve given the world … the legends and heroes that you’ve shown us we are … will live on forever. But the thing that hurts the most is that I now understand how much of a legend and hero YOU are. Through it all, you never lost sight of what you loved most. You cared about your family , your friends, your craft, your spirit. You cared about the kids, the community, our culture and humanity. You cared about me. You are my big brother, but I never fully got a chance to tell you, or to truly give you your flowers while you were here.

I wish we had more time.

I’m more aware now than ever that time is short with people we love and admire. I’m gonna miss your honesty, your generosity, your sense of humor, and incredible gifts. I’ll miss the gift of sharing space with you in scenes. I’m dedicating the rest of my days to live the way you did. With grace, courage, and no regrets. “Is this your king!?” Yes . he . is!  Rest In Power Brother.”

Chadwick Boseman, ‘Black Panther’ Star and the Original Reggie On AMC, Dies At 43

In just heartbreaking news in an already dismal 2020, one of the brightest motion picture stars, Chadwick Boseman has died at the age of 43.

Boseman was battling colon cancer for the last four years of his life.  According to his rep, Boseman was diagnosed in 2016 with stage 3 colon cancer and his battle continued as it progressed to stage 4

Chadwick passed away with his wife and family by his side in his home.   In a shocking revelation, all of the movie performances in the last four years he has filmed were done in between chemotherapy and countless surgery.

Boseman is best known for his groundbreaking role as King T’Challa  in Black Panther.   His performance was the first ever Marvel Studio movie headlined by a black actor.  The film was nominated for an Academy Award.   He first appeared as the character in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War.

Most recently, Chadwick appeared in the Spike Lee’s Vietnam War drama Da 5 Bloods, and this year he’s due to appear opposite Viola Davis Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom,” the film adaptation of the August Wilson play.  The actor starred in other films, including playing James Brown in Get On Up and Jackie Robinson in 42,  and the lead role in Marshall.

However, Boseman actually got his start on All My Children when he was the original actor cast in the role of Reggie Porter.  He appeared on the soap for only one week before the role was recast with none other than Michael B. Jordan, and their paths could eventually cross years later on multiple film projects.

In an interview in 2019, Boseman revealed what led him to be fired from All My Children stating:  “When I got it (the part), I was like, ‘This is not part of my manifesto. This is not part of what I want to do. How can I make it work?’ Because with a soap opera, you don’t know the full scope of what’s gonna happen — you don’t know where they’re gonna take the character, because they don’t always know where the character is going. And because of that, there’s possibly room for me to adjust this and change it and make it so it’s stereotypical on the page but not on the screen.”

For Boseman had issues with how Reggie was portrayed and how it was written with racial stereotypes.  In story, Reggie was a young gang member who was adopted by Erica Kane (Susan Lucci) and her husband, Jackson Montgomery (Walt Willey). “I remember going home and thinking, ‘Do I say something to them about this? Do I just do it?’ And I couldn’t just do it. “I had to voice my opinions and put my stamp on it. And the good thing about it was, it changed it a little bit for Michael B. Jordan.”  Apparently the producers told Boseman he was too much trouble but took some of his suggestions on the role moving forward.
