BREAKING NEWS: Days of our Lives Ending Its Run on NBC, Moving to Peacock Starting in September

Photo: JPI

In a major move, Days of our Lives, the longest-running scripted series of all-time on NBC, is exiting the television network and will now be in its new home on the NBCUniversal streaming platform, Peacock.

The shift marks the end of DAYS’ nearly 57 year-run on broadcast television. Days of our Lives debuted on NBC back on November 8th, 1965.

Look for all-new episodes daily of the series to begin on Peacock starting on September 12th, along with the show’s library already available to stream for Peacock Premium subscribers.  According to a press release from Peacock, “The historic move to Peacock creates the ultimate destination for daytime fans to access the library, new episodes and Peacock Original Days of Our Lives: Beyond Salem in one place.”

In its place, NBC will fill the daytime drama’s current timeslot with NBC News Now, an hour-long news show anchored by Kate Snow, Aaron Gilchrist, Vicky Nguyen and Morgan Radford. According to The Hollywood Reporter, NBC affiliates will also have the option to add local news to the hour.

In a statement, NBCUniversal Television and Streaming chairman Mark Lazarus shares: “This programming shift benefits both Peacock and NBC and is reflective of our broader strategy to utilize our portfolio to maximize reach and strengthen engagement. With a large percentage of the Days of Our Lives audience already watching digitally, this move enables us to build the show’s loyal fanbase on streaming while simultaneously bolstering the network daytime offering with an urgent, live programming opportunity for partners and consumers.”

NBC’s decision means it leaves only three daytime soaps on American broadcast TV: General Hospital, The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful.

DAYS has found recent streaming success with its limited-series, Days of our Lives: Beyond Salem Chapters 1 and 2, which introduced the viewing audience to the Peacock platform.

To watch Days of our Lives on Peacock, you will need a premium-tier paid subscription at $4.99 per month. The service offers an an ad-free experience at $9.99 per month.

We will have more on this developing story.

So, what do you think of NBC removing DAYS from its daytime line-up, while moving it to their owned-streaming platform, Peacock? Share your thoughts in the comment section below.

I can’t believe it!!!!

It’s finally true DOOL gone forever. I watched Y&R since it began but switched to DOOL two years ago. I heard it was ending. However, my brother convinced me “that will never happen.” I am devastated by this short notice. What a total shame.

I am totally shocked but as everything in this country hAS changed in the past 2 years, I guess I am not to surprised. I planned my day on being home in time to see “DAYS OF OUR LIVES” Oh…another change.

Us too! Watched Days of Our Lives since I was 9!

I agree. Notice the statement says it will “Benefit Peacock and NBC….”. Well, what about those that like to watch DOOL for free??? And on Television?? What a crock of bull! I wonder what the actors feel???

In Canada we dont have access to peacock this makes me very sad

Since Days airs on the Global network in Canada and NBC has nothing to do with that, it’s up to Global to decide whether or not they’re going to keep airing the program during the daytime, or stream it on their app.

Same with any other countries where it might be airing… whomever has the distribution rights for that country will have to determine whether they want to keep it on the air or go to strictly streaming.

NBC will cease production and distribution. You will have to view it via Peacock network which Canada does not get.

NBC isn’t the producer, Sony is. Satan is right – Sony will continue selling international rights. There’s no reason to believe anything will change for our friends to the north.

I certainly hope nothing changes up here

Thanks for this info! You have made my day, as a huge, long, long time DOOL fan in Canada! Keeping fingers crossed it remains on Global.

Thank you, TV Jeff—my 82-year-old great aunt lives in Woodbridge, Ont. ( suburb of Toronto) and she is devastated—we assured her she will not miss an episode.
All will be OK-Auntie.❤️

NBC only has distribution rights in the US. Sony licenses DAYS internationally (including via Global in Canada). Production is controlled by Corday – not NBC.

If you’re in Canada you’ll likely continue to see it on Global as that’s a separate deal from the US deal with NBC. That’s up to Sony if Global gets to keep airing it which I believe they will.

Hope so

Hoping global will continue to carry it! I’ve watched Days for years and still very much enjoy that hour every day . Please global !!

Thanks for clarifying this I was wondering about what would happen in Canada.

Since Peacock is not available in Canada I hope Days of Our Lives can remain om Global. I’ve been watching it for years. I would hate to see it go

I suppose I won’t be watching.
Will continue to watch the young and restless, the bold and beautiful and general hospital

I WILL JOIN THE CLUB THAT IS NOT WATCHING STARTING TOMORROW! FEEL SORRY FOR SOME OF THE ACTORS BUT STORY LINES ARE HORRIBLE…..

It’s called YouTube the next day. Why would you wanna see this crap??

Why would you want to watch that crap on YouTube? It’s always poorly edited. 9 times out of 10 you think you’re getting a full episode, but it’s really just the first 15 minutes, repeated 5 times. The audio always sounds like a steaming pile of dragonshit. And sometimes they even shrink the video down to 1/5 the size of the YouTube screen and fill the rest of it up with some silly flashing animations which at best are horribly distracting, and at worst, probably cause epileptic seizures.

And don’t even get me started on the crappy Russian bootleg videos that always end with the bootlegger’s personal grudge against some other Russian doofus. Like anybody wants to see that shit??

Seriously, if you live in the US and Peacock isn’t an option for you, get a VPN with a Canadian IP address and watch it on the Global TV website. That’s how I watched down here in Hell for a while, before Peacock’s existence.

From what I read on several facebook groups Global is going to continue airing it

It sucks makes me sad I’ve been watching Days of our lives sense I was a teenager it’s my favorite soap opera why are they taking it off NBC and putting it on peacock

Because it will presumably be more of an asset to Peacock than to NBC. It will have a change to attract new viewers who only watch streaming with the hope that we older viewers will move over. Fortunately, my cable provider is Comcast so I get Peacock for free. So I will not miss a beat.

Same here, it’s not fair to us long time watchers

Days is my favorite show.Scr-w peacock.this makes me very angry.

I agree. Awful news! No more DOOL

This is wrong on so many levels for us Canadian viewers!!!

Guess I will quit watching!!

I doubt I will be watching. Not going to pay for this the story lines are not with my time or money. Y&R has caught my interest and enjoy much more.

Me too. I feel bad

I will quit too. Typical mainstream media BS.

Guess I will watch something else. Don’t have Peacock.

Do you enjoy Days? If so, spend $4.99/m. What will you need to give up per month to afford that? 1 drink at Starbucks?

So what if we don’t buy Starbucks? NBC is free. $4.99 a month is not free

NBC is getting rid of a lot of programs. I would rather watch Peacock then NBC you have so much more to watch. They should have keep Days for all the years loyal watchers have watched days they let us all down. We had to watch it at 1 am or record it for quit awhile now. Why be loyal to N B C when they let us down along time ago.

I agree!

I don’t do Starbucks! I’m a senior citizen on a fixed income and can’t afford any more monthly bills. So after all these years I guess I will have to say goodbye to DOOL for good!

Agree, seniors on a fixed income can’t afford.

Oh stop!! It’s $5 per month.. take a shorter shower

I have been watching it on PEACOCK for quite a few years now….because I work during the day. PEACOCK is free, but now I guess the small basic package is 4.99 a month, which good grief is NOTHING really – I may however cancel some of my other packages like NETFLIX which I hardly like every watch –

Brian,

I tend to agree BUT Iam also a senior citizen and live on S.S and Medicare. I sit on my butt all day, no choice and TV is my one luxury. I pay quite a lot for Cable TV service including WiFi internet, telephone and Recorder. It aIso includes Peacock and other streaming Apps. which I hardly watch. I did watch the Beyond Salem stuff but because you can’t record Peacock I doubt that I’ll watch when Days switches over, I think the SLs are so crazy and boring that I’d rather quit watching than to be held hostage at a certain time every day. I’d like to make this long story shorter by saying you have to decide what your priorities are or do away with $5 of something else not that important.

But you said you already have Peacock, right? So continuing with DAYS means you just have to punch different buttons. That is all. And you can watch it any time you wish that day, and you will have fewer commercials, a perfect picture, and no news bulletins interrupting and pre-empting. No advertisements for Americas Got Talent popping up at the bottom of the picture. A better experience.

With all prices going up, it is hard to come up with $5 If $5 isn’t a lot, can we count on you to pay it for us??!!! Sounds like you can afford it. Take a shorter shower!

It’s $5 now but it will be $10 then $20 just like Netflix ! Remember when Netflix was cheap ! I think someone should come up with an affordable package with the things you want to watch instead of 300 Chanel’s of crap and mostly infomercials. I have HBO and it’s all crap. To get good movies you have to pay for HBO max.

Unless Alex is quickly removed why waste the money? Characters who are nothing more than walking egos do not exactly make one’s day.

Brian, it’s the principle!!! Not the $!! Take a long walk off a short pier!!!

On fixed income too. Can’t afford more bills. Can only have necessities

My mother is in the same boat. She is not going to pay for a streaming app and watch tv on a computer. This is a poor way to treat decades-long viewers. All for a useless news program.

I agree….money money money. That’s what it’s all about..By the time people start paying for the channels…the bill for watching anything will cost too much!!! It’s not fair to us older people .food Gas and now entertainment going up up up! Ridiculous!!!

AGREE!! Such BS by NBC-Universal.

Agree

And I sure won’t be watching that useless news show! Sorry, NBC, but you won’t have anything in the daytime anymore, and this will come back to bite you! Sorry move here!

Paul,

You would think NBC would look at what happened to ABC’s replacements to AMC and OLTL.. it has been a revolving door. Take your loyal viewers and be grateful. Another way to think about it is in relation to the Queen’s 70 yrs…longevity and tradition matter. Maybe all soap networks should look at their soaps in the same way.

If she truly enjoys the show, you could buy her a set-top box for about $25 (a great Christmas gift) and hook it to the same TV she watches, not a computer. I agree $5 a month sucks compared to free, but that is 25 cents for an episode.

Agree on that! Useless you can bet on it!

I agree Clay! Such BS by NBC-Universal!

Good!!! What would you possibly enjoy about this show anymore????

If u can get Peacock it is free

It is not the money…It is the principle!! Greedy NBC/Universal!!!

NBC isn’t stupid. This was the plan all along to bolster Peacock subscription services. Sure, Days will lose some viewers and they’ll gain some viewers. It will be easier to cancel the show altogether from Peacock by 2025 without much blowback as it’s essentially cancelled anyway now. For 5$ Peacock has a lot to offer including big Hollywood new movies which land there after release and some while in theatres. Like Jordan Peele’s latest big budget Nope. That will stream first on Peacock some time in September. I personally like the fact i can stream back a couple of years of Days to watch on my own time in my own way. And even if cancelled the shows will remain on Peacock for a few years still. Win Win to me.

2025? I predict Days won’t last more than a year on Peacock. By this time next year we might be saying goodbye to Day for good.

I just started watching it I always had to work and always recorded the other soaps.

Well, if indeed that’s the case, then that’s the way it goes. I only watch it on PEACOCK since I work, so to me, it’s not a big deal. I already pay for other services, and I do agree that it should at least be FREE on Peacock, not force people to get Peacock Premium. Lately, to be honest, the show kind of sucks. It still has it’s moments, but the same three sets, gee whiz, they need some new sets….and some interesting storylines.

Yup!

We don’t get Peacock in Canada

No impact in Canada. NBC has nothing to do with the rights in Canada. Sony sells them

DAYS will remain on Global as Sony makes that deal not NBC.

I guess I’ll have to just stop watching!’n

This stinks. Can we watch it on the pc?

Peacock is how we see the show down here in Hell these days anyway, so I’m OK with it.

But it might feel like a slap in the face to some of the older mortals who have been watching Days since 1965 and – at that age – might not exactly be the most tech – savvy people on Earth. And Hell forbid that they have a cable company other than Scumcast and would actually have to pay for Peacock.

It’s been rumored that this was their plan along, so hardly shocking. But as it is with most things involving this show… I’m not so sure Ken Corday, ReRon, and others in the head office are really aware of whom their audience is.

Exactly! My friend watches daily and she doesn’t have a computer. She actually calls the internet “that computer”. I dread telling her this. She’s almost 68 and no knowledge of Facebook, Instagram, etc.

I feel bad for the ones that have to pay.Especially the ones who can’t afford pretty much anything.

Well said!!!

The older audiences deserved to see it stay on NBC as networks are getting too ridiculous on how they’re moving everything to streaming like Dancing with the Stars a show clearly made for broadcast is moving to Disney+ in September as well. I think a lot of people will not subscribe to Peacock for the show and it will be forgotten and be cancelled.

Sucks. Since we don’t get Peacock in Canada.

No impact in Canada. Sony sells the rights to a Canadian broadcaster. NBC has nothing to do with it.

Hopefully there is no change ip here

It does suck.why can’t they just put it on cable like they do with everything else?.NO we have to suffer now.Yet they replace it with another news show.Enjoy it NBC – Noting BUt Crap.

Now that it’s moving to Peacock are we going to have to pay for it or is it going to continue to be free on Peacock?

Article above says:

“To watch Days of our Lives on Peacock, you will need a premium-tier paid subscription at $4.99 per month. The service offers an an ad-free experience at $9.99 per month.”

Hopefully they’ll change their mind.

I doubt they will change their minds, this is the wave of the future, streaming. For a while, PEACOCK basic was free – now if you want to see the show there’s a small monthly fee but I watch PEACOCK every day because I also like DATELINE and other shows. Streaming is what it’s all about now –

Yes, I’m afraid you’re right about that. Everything seems to be going to streaming services. Internet service is terrible in our rural area so I’d hate to pay for a streaming service that may or may not work. Our wifi and cable goes out often.

Lee Hassinger
I’ve been putting off contacting my Cable Co. Peacock and others are included in my Cable Service and watched Beyond Salem, why would there be an added charge for the daily version.

If you watched Beyond Salem without paying extra, then you wont have to pay extra for Days Of Our Lives. You already are being given Peacock Premium by your cable service

Rob
It’s you again, thanks so much.

Guess I’ll just stop watching

So now if you want to watch Days, you have to pay to steam the show, when we already pay such high prices for cable. Not fair to the older generation who have been fans fir 50 plus years, seriously.

EXACTLY !!!

I agree with you totally

I agree. Most of us can’t afford any more bills, so I guess it’s goodbye to Days. And another thing we don’t understand “streaming” and the new technology

Totally agree!! The long time viewers helped build this show and keep it going! Now NBC turns their back on us. All morning is already filled with news and now one more hour of it!! Paying crazy money for cable to watch tv for some entertainment and now who has the money to pay for a bunch of different streaming services to watch what has been free on tv for decades. Even if you cut cable every show you watch is on a different paid service. You save nothing and could actually end up paying more. Not everyone has the know how or access to get these services. What about people that are in nursing homes or assisted living and have no WiFi or those that don’t have it at home??? Shame on you NBC and ABC (Dancing with the Stars) for pulling shows!!!

In the 60s tv was free with an antenna and they said tv would always be free. We only had a few channels with good programs. Why do they need 300 plus channels of crap !

Mindy
Because a lot of people like crap, haven’t you noticed? Who thought that one day we’d be able to just pick up our remote and get X-rated movies and Porno?

After 40+ yrs of watching it faithfully, I guess I will be done. Not paying for yet another streaming service just to watch it.

Unbelievable. Not paying so guess I’m done watching. Sad

I think we are in a sad world where you have to pay more money to watch TV shows you have enjoyed for over 50 years. Money hungry nets works do not care about their faithful audience

Totally agree!

Absolutely!!!

I am very sorry to hear this. You are forgetting about your longtime viewers. Not all of us want to stream for one show. Will miss my Days family

Lila Moslander
Iam lucky to have Peacock and other streaming included on my Cable service, but just know that subscribing for $4.99 a month includes dozens of movies, loads of T.V shows, kids shows, Disney, etc. You are not just subscribing to DOOL. People need to look into this service before putting the kibosh on it. There might be some other thing you are willing to let go for $5 a month.

Most people can’t afford it even at $5 bucks, it’s a bad move from NBC, they need to change their minds and leave it on the main network.

That’s fine for those who have money but some of us are on fixed incomes and while I spent the $5 to watch Beyond Salem that was a once a year thing, cancelled immediately afterwards. Older viewers will drop off from the show, newer viewers won’t show up and I am predicting the show will be gone entirely within a year.

I agree! The audience is made up of mostly people who have watched for many years or from the beginning. This will hurt the ratings and the show will sadly be gone forever.

I think it stinks, Now we have to pay for streaming one of are longtime soap. I for one can’t afford to pay another cost to watch TV. This soap will not last if fans of this soap have to pay to watch peacock streaming & in Canada we don’t get it. People are already Suffering enough with paying for gas food living expenses what do you expect them to do thanks a lot

Totally agree

Agree 100%

NBC regrets not cancelling the show and is trying to save face. I am guessing the show will be officially done within 2 years. The only saving grace will be that streaming platform numbers have lower expectations. Still, this is awful for the genre. I am thankful that I don’t watch DOOL. Now I will be waiting for Y&R to go to Paramount +.

I am very upset by this decision. I look forward to watching each day when I eat lunch. Boooooo….

I agree!! I did same thing!!

Will not be able to watch on Peacock.

I have mixed feelings about the decision. I don’t think DOOL’s older audience is into streaming. I have to question if this will give the show a larger budget for new sets, actor’s salaries, etc. It is hard to think a show that has been on at 1:00 p.m. (1:30 when it was 30 minutes) since I was three years old will no longer be there.

There is a part of me that feels the same way I did AMC and OLTL was cancelled, except I have the option to watch it on Peacock. I don’t need to see NBC add another hour of news, when they already have four hours of Today. I hope this move tightens the cast and the focus returns to realistic storylines. The cast feels bloated with too many storylines and characters that are not reeling me in. I could do without Paulina, Ava, Dr Rolf, Belle, Allie and Chanel. I appreciate the writers are writing a fluid storyline. The problem is Allie and Chanel have no chemistry and Allie acts ridiculous to be a mother.

I need less return-from-the-dead and demon storylines and more realism. i’d love to see Stephanie and Alex be the next super couple. I’d like to see Nicole get a family member on the canvas (Brandon/Taylor). Andrew, Joey, Claire need to be on the show.

Best of luck to DOOL. I hope to read soon that Kelly and Mark’s attempt to bring back AMC will be picked up on Peacock as a nice companion show.

If the AMC “reboot” ever becomes a real thing, it’s probably going to be associated with ABC… which would mean it’s going to stream on Hulu, not Peacock.

I agree with all of this! It seems like it will be straight news 24/7 now!
I’m still saddened by the canceling of OLTL & AMC. I wondered how the AMC reboot was coming along.

It’s all fake news anyway! I gave up watching that crap a long time ago!

You’re exactly right, Patti!

Yeah, I’m concerned about this move because the older audiences are not going to subscribe to Peacock. DAYS was easy to access everyday on NBC and they’ve taken that away. I hope DAYS can continue past season 60 but I doubt it. Hopefully, at the very least NBC can develop a new soap for DAYS.

I do want to see AMC still rebooted, unfortunately Disney still owns it so I hope ABC does everybody a solid and replaces GMA 3 with it soon.

The AMC reboot being discussed would be a prime time show, airing once a week. So that would not be replacing any existing ABC daytime shows.

And like most primetime shows, I’m guessing it would be 10 – 13 episodes the first season, and if successful they might build up to 20 – 24 episode seasons like most of your long running prime time network shows do. Either way, odds are, you wouldn’t be seeing it this time of year (unless you like reruns)

I agree with many of your points, especially an unhappiness with the campy and sci-fi storytelling on Days ): They got away from that garbage for a few months but now it is back in full awful force! I will miss the show but it’s time to say goodbye for good to Days!

Why can’t it just be on Regular FREE Peacock?

I will still watch DAYS on Peacock at 1 pm, even though I know I can watch it anytime. During the Olympics I watched old episodes of DAYS during lunch just for fun.

That’s a nice thought, Ray – however, ALL MY CHILDREN, if it ever does re-launch as “pine valley” – assuming we all live that long – would most likely be on HULU or the ABC-TV ap. Kelly Ripa has said that it’s still on the table but it doesn’t seem like anyone is rushing to get it going ~

I have watched it since the first episode . So sad as Canada doesn’t get peacock tv . Will not watch NBC ever again

See other responses about NBC not controlling distribution outside of US. Sony handles that with Global in Canada for example.

This sucks royally!!!

I agree.Days is my favorite show and I used it to relax me.Kind of like to keep me company.

I hate that this is going to Peacock. This is my favorite soap.

My favorite soap for over 50 yrs, thanks a lot,I am 79 and can’t afford another $5.00 out. I won’t be able to watch anymore, I’d tather it just end than tease us with of first pls that can’t afford it nope to you all and then move again and hanks a lot!!!!

In Canada we don’t have access to peacock. I’m not happy about . I have been watching from the first day

You’ll be okay in Canada, it’s still going to air on Global, this is just for US audiences.

In other words we Americans would need to move to Canada to watch Days without having to pay even more money than we already are paying for television! Good grief! (;

Well…. if you live in a northern border state, you could always ask the cable company to pick up Global, if they don’t already carry it. I spent a lot of time up in the Pacific NW when I was making all those deals in the 1990s (Microsoft, Amazon, Starbucks, various grunge bands, etc) and I remember the cable companies up there had the CBC network, which was great because I had a son who was playing hockey at the time (yeah I know, don’t ask me how that happened… ice and all that). Can’t remember if they had other Canadian networks or not, but if enough mortals harrassed the cable company about it, they might see the monetary value in such a decision… which is of course, the only reason they do anything.

That stinks

This sucks!! I don’t have $5.00 a month as I’ve been out of work a long time…so I guess Days just lost a loyal fan….tsk tsk tsk

I have watched days of our lives since previewed I was 12 years old do the math I am now 69 I will not pay to watch. So I guess Sept Day’s will be coming to a end!!!!! I just can’t believe it I think there’s too many young kids making these very stupid decisions.

In Canada no access to Peacock after all theses years a loyal watcher they do this goodbye

I’m in Canada also,it will still be aired here on global

Time to watch a new soap!

Gh is amazing! At consider at least checking out?

Which parallel universe are you getting GH from?

On earth and in Hell, it’s been treading water since last Thanksgiving or so.

GH is the best of the four remaining shows. Yes, there are problems with it, mainly Sonny and Carly, but so much of it is great! The past week or so it has been fantastic! It’s the only show I might consider paying $5 more a month to see…

General hiospital puts the other soaps to shame right now….watch and you will forget about DAYS…..do check it out!

I agree – have you ever noticed all of the people who swear that GH is terrible don’t actually watch the show?

Granted, it was good to see Esme fly off the parapet, and for Spencer to FINALLY speak up about Esme’s guilt & Trina’s innocence. But other than that, I’m seeing nothing but too many newbies, way too much Nina, and pretty much everybody being written out of character to accommodate the too much Nina. Not coincidentally, it all went to Hell in a hand basket (and not in a good way) right about the time they threw Jason under the bus AGAIN. Or maybe the first hints of it were when they threw Luke under the bus… without him even being around to throw under the bus!! Or maybe under the cable car, if you want to be literal about it. Considering how awful the exit story ReRon wrote for him in 2015 was, I’m not sure why they needed to damage an absent (though still legendary) character any further.

I’d like to be optimistic and say something good about Elizabeth’s current storyline, except they seem to be treading water and don’t have any idea where they’re going with it. I could forgive them for that, if I thought they were holding out while negotiating a contract for Richard Dean Anderson to return as Jeff Webber… but I wouldn’t bet anybody’s soul on that being the reason for the stalling in the story.

So what is a Devil missing about how “great” GH is lately?? I’d really like to know

Nina is my favorite character! There is way way way too much Carly and Sonny, and I really wish they would be gone from the show. And good riddance to Jason, so glad he’s gone and I hope he never returns!

D
There’s three left, pig out, watch them all. Gh is the best, I think.

Time to watch something else

A lot of people get Peacock movies on their TV, now they have to upgrade to watch Days. You will loose a lot of viewers. I’ve been watching for over 40 years. Very sad

Me to.This is sad and it makes me very angry .

We don’t have peacock in Canada what about those who don’t that’s not fair to the loyal fans who watch

According to some it doesn’t affect viewers in canada who watch on Global Sony has international viewing rights not NBC, so they said nothing should change for viewing in Canada, hopefully

It’s going to remain on Global in Canada, this is just for US audieneces.

Not everyone can afford Peacock. I have been watching this show since the early 70’s. I hope they change their mind and stay on NBC.

me to this whole thing smells.

This is terrible. Not far to us elderly!

I’ve watched Days of our Lives for 50 years. It’s sad to see them go to a streaming service. I won’t pay for another service. I’m sorry to say goodbye to Days. I can finally dump Direct TV because watching my soaps was the last reason to have satellite TV.

Well, that stinks! I’ve been watching since the late 60s. I doubt if I pay to watch a show I’ve been enjoying free for so long! It’s a shame these people are so greedy to take away perhaps the only pleasure some older people have. Shame on you!!

I am one of those elderly people and I am fed up.This show needs to stay on NBC not peacock. There is a petition u can find it and sign it to keep days on.NBC.I already signed it.

This sounds like the beginning of the end for the show. Not everyone has access to Peacock so the audience will shrink even further. I live in Regina, Saskatchewan Canada and will never be able to see the show again. Too bad.

I live in Montreal. Like someone else commented, the production company, SONY handles distribution so maybe Global will make a deal to still carry the show.

It’s reported this doesn’t affect Canada which is on Global and the international rights are from Sony not NBC

I think it’s a bad decision and gna hurt a lot of the lifelong watchers!!! A lot of the older watchers don’t have Peacock and don’t know anything about it!!!!

Everybody can’t afford to pay that extra.

Unf’n believable! I’m not paying to watch it so I guess I won’t be watching any longer. I’ve watched since day 1!

Good by —days. Hate to see you go. Another pleasure taken away!!! And as far as new show on NBC- no thanks!! Not interested!! Guess I’ll be reading !!!!

THey will just put another stupid Talk Show on .I wont watch it.

I think it’s ridiculous. They just want to make money.

I will NOT be paying to watch on Peacock. So long DOOL! I watch it free on peacock now. So they are going to try to force us to pay? No Thanks.

Nolongerloyal
Don’t understand. If you are watching it for free, why would you have to pay when it’s on Peacock, which I think it is already. They always say if you miss it today you can always watch it the next day on Peacock.

Because Days will be on Peacock premium, so you will have to pay to watch it starting in September. It will not be free to watch

Robbie
I don’t think this is true. Why are we all making these suppositions, can’t those of us who have Cable Service just call and ask. I don’t know anything about cableless TV,

This is blantant money move to which most viewers will no longer be able to watch..distgusting after giving you nbc n the actors loyal viewing for 50 years..glad alice horton isn’t around to see her salem ruined by corporate greed

Don’t like this move at all. I shouldn’t have to pay to see Days of Our Lives!!

Not a Happy Camper although NBC always interrupted its broadcast alot for News stories Goverment news all the time…so does that surprise me, no! BUT am I Madd yes … I already pay streaming services alot, of money now have to pay for another service just to watch that one show !
I live on a fixed income and Heat & Gas & Food it’s really hard to get by…Boo NBC…..!

I am so upset. This has been my favorite show since a little girl. Can’t believe NBC is dropping it for Peacock. This is so sad!

Try to cutoff some of those services don’t fall into this corporate evil structure that they’ve created with streaming. It’s not worth it at all.

This doesn’t sound right to me. Usually they announce this kind of change long in advance. Let’s hope this is a hoax.

It’s not unfortunately

This is terrible news. I’ve been watching days for 49 years and now besides a cable bill I have to pay more to watch days. Im not happy and guess I’ll have to give up days. Can’t afford all this. This realy is heartbreaking

Not happy and probably won’t watch anymore. The writers have been killing the storyline anyway so I don’t see the show lasting much longer. And I’m one of the ones who watched DOOL from day one.

Not happy. Should not have to pay to watch this show. I have been watching this show for many years.

George Cheeks, CBS President & CEO, on Timeline to Launch New Daytime Drama, ‘The Gates’: “We’re So Focused on Getting it Right”

March 2024 will be remembered in the TV and soap world when the news broke that CBS is prepping a brand new daytime drama. Many had thought a major network would never bring a new daytime soap into the world, given that the last time it was attempted was 25 years ago when the now defunct Passions bowed on NBC.

However, The Gates is definitely in development and moving forward with some major players associated with it including: Michele Val Jean as The Gates writer, showrunner and one of its executive producers, and Sheila Ducksworth from NAACP Venture

Now, for the first time since its announcement, George Cheeks, the president and CEO of CBS and chief content officer for news and sports at Paramount+, spoke on the project that will feature a Black family as its central focus who live in a wealthy gated community.

Speaking with Vulture, and when asked if The Gates is really something that truly has a chance of getting on the air, Cheeks clarified, “It’s super real. And just to give you a little bit of the backstory,  when we hired Sheila Ducksworth to run the NAACP Venture, she and I had multiple meetings talking about what different genres she was going to lean into, and we talked a lot about daytime.”

Cheeks added, “One of the things that the data made very clear to both of us is that daytime soap operas over index with Black women, and yet when you look at soap operas, it’s usually sort of a white-led family with supporting characters that reflect more of our society. So we just thought, wouldn’t it be interesting to flip that and make the core anchor family a Black family, and then make the other characters reflect more the broader scope of society?”

The CEO gave props to Michele Val Jean,  and how Ducksworth came to the table with the former B&B and GH writer. “She found this great writer, Michele Val Jean, who’s been in the soap opera space for 30 years. She came up with a pitch, and we loved it,” shares Cheeks. “We brought Procter & Gamble into it as well, because if there were going to be (product) integrations, we could do it more holistically and organically. All of that is to say, we did a lot of work on the front end to put this together. So while yes, it’s development, it’s accelerated development.”

When prodded on the timeline of when The Gates could come to full fruition, Gates related, “The actual timeline and when we’re going to do it is still uncertain, because we want to get this right. I mean, there hasn’t been a new soap opera launch since I can’t even begin to tell you when. But we have great success with Bold and the Beautiful and Young and the Restless, and so we think we’re the right folks to be launching a new soap. I wish I could tell you more about exact timing, but we’re so focused on getting it right, and that will dictate when we’re ready to launch it.”

The CBS exec also shared that whether The Gates will wind up an hour soap or half-hour is not yet determined, but that it is being developed as an hour show.

So, after reading what George Cheeks, the CBS President & CEO had to say about ‘The Gates’, are you even more excited for what looks to the first new network soap in 25 years? Comment below.
