BREAKING NEWS: Daytime Emmy Awards to be Televised on HLN!

Fantastic news soapers! Finally, after some back and force, NATAS and HLN have reached a deal and the 39th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards have found a broadcast home and will be televised for the first time on a cable network!
Variety had this report just a little awhile ago! “The 39th edition of the event, which had spent the past two years on CBS, will air live at 8 p.m. Eastern and 5 p.m. Pacific, with encore broadcasts to follow on HLN, which reaches approximately 95 million homes domestically. A host has not been finalized but is expected to be announced within the next two weeks.
National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences chairman Malachy Wienges told Variety that the daytime community was “unhappy” with the previous two shows. The organization went to several producers looking for a fresher take. “After the last show, the daytime community approached NATAS and said that if we have to do the show in 2012 the exact same as in 2010 and 2011, we would rather have an un-televised event and just have a sit-down dinner and honor ourselves in Beverly Hills.” Wienges said. The new approach will focus on a celebration of daytime TV at a time of transition for the industry, which has seen such defining dramas as All My Children and One Life to Live leave the air in the past year.
“This has to be as much a tribute to daytime television as an awards show,” said Gabriel Gornell who along with Colleen Seldin will produce this years telecast. That being said, Gornell asserted that the awards themselves — which spread across a number of genres that include animation, game shows, talk, culinary and children’s programming — wouldn’t be marginalized. “While we pay tribute to television, it’s the awards that are going to get us there. This show is probably going to have more awards than previous years and is probably going to have fewer song-and-dance numbers than previous years.”
Word of HLN’s interest in the Daytime Emmys emerged in early May. HLN exec veep and general manager Scot Safon said that from the first moment the cabler was approached in March as a potential television partner, there was a natural fit.
“HLN focuses on news stories and information and things that our audience wants to talk about,” Safon said. “That includes the celebrations like the Emmy awards. If there’s a fanbase there, which for daytime television is an enormous fanbase, and the show was really going to delight that fanbase, then we were interested in presenting that — because that’s a news event to them.”
HLN and parent company Turner, which also provides the annual home for the Screen Actors Guild awards on TNT and TBS, are developing a number of promos to draw attention to the kudocast. “From the very beginning, it really came down to finding the right broadcast television partner that understood what we we’re trying to accomplish,” Gornell said, “not only creatively but from a messaging standpoint, that also had the platform resources to get behind it.”
The Daytime Emmys will now hopefully get the break they needed and we can truly honor daytime that way it should be for the hard work and performances and series, the fans around the world love every day. So, soapers, what do you think of the news? Let us know!
I wish I could catch HLN 🙁
This is great news! Everybody who has basic cable should get HLN (Headline News)! If you get CNN, you should get it since it’s owned by the same company. At least something is finally going right for the soaps!
Lipstickcat, Good Grief, I have been all over here trying to find a place I can post back to you, Yes I still have soapnet, for how long I don’t know. I have direct tv. So yes I get to still watch the soaps in the evening, direct tv, They have a poll to see how many people watch the soaps and which soaps I watch and would want back sure would be nice if they took one life to live and put it on.
This is wonderful news!!!!!! Thank you HLN and those that brought this to fruition. I am also glad to hear that this broadcast will focus more on the awards (which in turn means those nominated for them), rather than song and dance numbers. Last year ‘s broadcast was more like an ad for Vegas than a tribute to the work of those in Daytime TV, so I am truly looking forward to this refreshing change. I also look forward to a much well deserved tribute to AMC and OLTL, and big wins for GH, AMC and OLTL. I cannot wait for the broadcast!!!! If done well, and it sounds like it will be, this can also garner new fans to the soap genre – fingers crossed. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!!!
I think it’s great!
This is amazing!!! Do you know if we can purchase tickets to the awards show?
Very good news. All of us with cable will be able to watch on Saturday evening June 23. CNN Headline News is available for most cable subscriptions.
Hey HLN, Are you interested in airing two great soaps?
great idea, but I gotta say, what is HLN? never heard of them. I suppose it’s a cable station. What does HLN stand for… well, If I can’t get it by digital tuner I hope they sell a DVD of the presentation.
Headline news, cnn owns it.
wonderful news i am so happy that we can watch the daytime emmys. thank you so much hln. you made my day and other soap fans as well. maybe there is hope that one life to love can come back to hln. you never know. i know its a long shot.
Great news. I wonder if HLN would ever consider bringing back “One Life To Live” once they see how many viewer it could bring.
Don’t think that will happen Brian, Its a news channel. That’s why I am surprised their going to have the emmys on. Good for them.
I know… but let’s hope that they want to expand and get in to the daytime drama business…
It would be nice. I would love to see our soaps come back.
It would be great if Erika Slezak (Vicki OLTL) was asked to host! Such a classy actress!
Too lazy to google it . . . what is HLN???
It used to be CNN headline news. ps… google is a very quick search engine.
Its a Part of cnn but it is called Headline news They do a lot of the murder trials, Keeping us in touch with missing people and children watch a few of their shows Issues, nancy grace show, Vinney, Cant remember his last name, I am surprised they will be showing the emmys on a Saturday night they usually have stories of murders that have been solved, I am glad they will be showing the emmys, Its different for them, Good for them, However, We don’t want a three ring circus or any las vegas crap., Lets stick with the soaps and game shows could care less who wins the best talk crap award as far as I am concerned they talk to much.
What channel is Headlines News on???????????? I have Bright House Cable (Fl.)…………………………………………………………….
What are they all about???????? HLN??????????????Do you think thet would pick up OLTL & AMC?????????????????
Love HLN’s decision. So happy that it sounds like they’ll dispense with the “Vegas Show” type of broadcast, and focus back on the Daytime shows, the performers, and the fan base.
WONDERFUL NEWS! Looking forward to the telecast…..what HAPPENED in Vegas should definitely stay there. Thank you, HLN!
That’s wonderful news maybe they will consider bringing back OLTL and maybe even AMC to their network. That would answer all our prays and make alot of people very happy. and also give alot of people back their jobs.
You said it all………………………I agree with you !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great! Sounds like it won’t be an travemercial this year. I’d like to see clips from the nominees. Yes, fewer song and dance numbers and ads as part of the show would be very nice.
I get why it was that way previously, but it was insulting to daytime and viewers.
I also think it’s great that it will have multiple airings. Looking forward to a good show. Hope they get a good host. Either someone who works in daytime (soap hopefully) or worked in daytime or is a fan and knowledgeable about the genre.
MO,Sounds like all good Ideas to me. And I am looking forward to seeing who will win.
Great news!!! Nice that HLN sees this as a newsworthy event and will carry the broadcast.
Good news but NOT good for me since I don’t have that channel!!!!!
Hope they also decide to show the award show ONLINE!!!!!
I’m so happy that the Daytime Emmys will be broadcast next month on HLN! Many thanks to them. I like what I’m hearing about plans to concentrate more on the awards themselves and the tributes to AMC and OLTL. How wonderful would it be if those two beloved shows were resurrected on one of the Turner networks? They would be getting a built-in and very loyal fan base, that’s for sure!
I found you, you said that Anna devaine and David hayward weren’t married, my computer is messed up I would send you the link, If you go to, she knows, and wikipedia put up anna devaines name you will see the story of anna and her twin sister on all my children, Her sister found anna and brought her back to pine valley where she stayed, David and Anna were married and had a daughter leora that died, also Robin came to visit anna at one time, not for long because someone was gunning for anna thats how Gillian got shot in the head and died, david did a few questionable things and that caused anna to get a divorce and she left Pine valley. At wikipedia the whole story of her stay in port charles is there.
Many thanks to HLN!!! Looking forward to seeing this and hoping they do it right this year.
comcast cable just drop soapnet network last night and i am pissed. all the children network and all the sports network are still there and the one network the women watch when the men take over the sports stations and the children take over the children stations one stations for us to catch up with our soaps on week nights and week ends and you take that away from us???? i hate it!!
I will support any venue regarding my beloved soaps.
Sadly my Soaps have gone away….ALL OF THEM. So Daytime Emmy’s on a cable News network, makes no sense to me…but more power to them!
GO SEASAME STREET!!!!
I say we all start a REVOLUTION and have The TALK and The VIEW get stuck in a blender on CHEW and then gert sued and sent to Judge (Fill In The Blank)!
#brringbackmyfamilies!
Morticia, I am sad for you, I still have two soaps left so I will cheer them on with big bird, But I must say I love how you want to get rid of the revolution, the talk, and the view, and have them all get eaten up on the chew, Maybe by Judge Judy, Shes good nothing gets by her, can we throw katie in the blender to? How afternoons have changed they will never be the same.
Michael, I read something on the web Concerning OLTL being nominated forTop drama series along with Gh.AMC &B&b(cbs)…We know OLTL didn’t get nominated for top drama series.. But I clicked onto Live Emmy’s (soap operas). And I red this article by David Hinckley from the daily news this was posted May 9, 2012………..Is his article on the up & up or not?????????????? One more thing it said:Daytime Emmy’s nominated go to cancelled soaps(OLTL, AMC. ) For Top drama Series…Is this article accurate??????? Can you please let me know… I would appreciate it… I am a die hard OLTL fan…
Michael thank you for your quick response………………This article came from The New York Daily News……………………….Well this article is false………This article is very mis-leading……………………..I know OLTL wasn’t nominated..This article struck me as odd!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Why would they print something like that?????????? When we know it isn’t so????????

Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos to Kick Off Season 36 of ‘Live’ with New Show Opening

The new season of morning talk shows begins this week, and one of them, Live with Kelly and Mark, is starting things off with a new show open starring the hosts and married couple, Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos, formerly of All My Children fame.
Make sure to circle Tuesday September 5th, when Kelly and Mark begin their first official season together as co-hosts of the long-running show now in its 36th season. As many know, Consuelos joined the show back in April of this year, after Ryan Seacrest made the decision to depart the series and move back to Los Angeles full-time, since the talker is shot in New York City.
In the concept of the new opening, the husband and wife duo are seen brushing their teeth in their apartment, then going through a couple of outfit changes/looks, before they settle on what they wearing as they are driven to their New York City studio where ‘Live’ emanates from, and arrive in its corridors.

In addition, this season will have a new trivia game segment called Stump Mark. In it, Mark will try his darnedest to keep the coveted Live mug away from trivia callers trying to stump him with their two statements — one true, one false.
Scheduled guests for the week: Derek Hough, Jake Gyllenhaal, Melissa Etheridge, Josh Gad, Shinedown, Phillip Phillips, Nikki and Brie Bella and more.
Take a look at the opening title sequence for Live with Kelly and Mark below, and then let us know what you thought of it in the comment section, and let us know if you are looking forward to the new season of the talk show.

Kelly Ripa Teases New Season of ‘Live’ with Husband Mark Consuelos: “Our Show Is Best When It’s Going Off the Rails”

Since Mark Consuelos joined his real-life wife, Kelly Ripa on the morning talk show Live with Kelly and Mark, the ratings have never been better. In fact, according to the Nielsen ratings, the former All My Children stars came in second behind The View for the 2022-2023 television season in total viewers averaging 2.293 million.
Now with the new season upon us come September, Ripa spoke with the Purist about what fans can expect now that Mark is coming into his own as her co-host.
Kelly shared, “We’re going to provide the same sort of humor and irreverence that people have come to know and love. Mark has taken the trivia game, where Ryan (Seacrest) and I would just give away coffee mugs to the audience, and decided that he’s not going to do that any more. There are no participation trophies in life, he says. If they want to win a mug, they’re going to have to stump me. I don’t really follow the ratings, but from what I’ve been told that since Mark has taken over, people stay with the show all the way through because they want to see whether or not Mark gets stumped.”

When asked what favorite segment on Live is her current favorite, Ripa expressed, “I love talking to the trivia callers. Our show is best when it’s going off the rails, when our audience gets to see the slip-ups. It is not this highly polished, Hollywood thing. It is two people meeting, having coffee, having just read the paper. We never cover actual news, we cover absurd news. When you factor in a person calling from their cellphone in the parking lot of a grocery store, what have you, it is rife with the ability to derail very quickly, and I think that’s what I love the best. I also love our viewer feedback at the very end of the show, where we take our viewers.”
So, are you looking forward to more Live with Kelly and Mark? Enjoying the duo on-screen together on the morning talker? What are your favorite staple segments from the show? Comment below.

Pamela Blair, ‘A Chorus Line’, ‘Loving’ and Daytime Emmy Nominee, Dead at 73

The Broadway community is mourning the passing of one of their most beloved members, who also appeared on several daytime soap operas throughout her career. Pamela Blair, the original Val in A Chorus Line, died at her home in Phoenix, Arizona on Sunday following a lengthy illness. Blair was 73-years-old.
Throughout her career, the singer/dancer/actress continued to showcase her exceptional talents in shows such as: Promises, Promises, Wild and Wonderful, Sugar and Seesaw. She also gained major kudos from the musical theatre community for her portrayal of Amber in The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas.
Pamela also had notable roles on soap operas taped in New York City. First, Blair played Elizabeth Shank Ryan on Ryan’s Hope in 1980. She followed that with her most-known daytime role as Loving’s Rita Mae Bristow, a part she played from 1983-1985.

Later in 1985, 1986 and in 1992, Blair made brief appearances in two roles on All My Children, Maida Andrews and Mrs. Goodman. It was the role of Maida Andrews that landed Blair a Daytime Emmy nomination in the newly named Outstanding Guest Performer in a Drama Series back in 1987, only losing that year to John Wesley Shipp for his role of Martin Ellis on Santa Barbara. Blair’s last soap role was in 1994 as Another World’s Bonnie Broderick.
Throughout her enduring career, she appeared in numerous television and motion pictures including: Sabrina, The Teenage Witch, Law & Order and the motion pictures version of Annie.
