Seems like the rumor mill was correct and now Soap Opera Digest is reporting on their official Facebook page that it is confirmed, that indeed, Daytime Emmy winner and long time fan favorite, Kimberly McCullough is leaving General Hospital as Dr. Robin Scorpio Drake.

According to the post, “Kimberly McCullough has decided to pursue her dream of directing full-time, so she has decided to leave General Hospital as storyline dictates,” says a show spokesperson. “Expect a poignant and must watch storyline for Robin and Patrick.”

In addition the news reports that Kimberly will air into the early months of 2012! This announcement comes on the heels of the news that Jonathan Jackson (Lucky) has also opted to leave the series, all of which does not bode well for a show that needs its strong performers in a fight to the finish to try and stay on the air as 2012 is the key turning point to whether it lives on or gets cancelled like the other ABC Daytime Dramas.

So what do you think of Kimberly’s decision? Let us know!

Good for her, to get out before the show gets cancelled. And once it does get cancelled, don’t look for Prospect Park to do anything, because they can’t even save themselves!

She’s gotta do whats right for her.

Run, Run, Run!!!! The end of an era and yes I am sad but it is what it is!!!! They are jumping off the Titanic!!!!

This is sad news! Robin and Patrick have been and continue to be one of the best things about GH…

I’ve seen these comments on multiple sites about actors leaving a sinking ship. Yes, daytime is unfortunately a dying genre, but why would these actors decide to leave now? Why not just ride it out and collect a stable payday as long as they can? Let’s face it, many of the cast of GH will not be getting regular acting roles when the series comes to an end. It just doesn’t make financial sense, to me at least, for them to leave the show now. Kimberly wants to go into directing full-time, that’s fine, but it couldn’t wait 6 months or more? She’s still very young.

Good for her although this is sad news I’m happy for Kimberly I didn’t no Kimberly wanted to direct full time. I like the idea that she wants to direct full time we need more women directors. Good luck to you Kimberly your number one fan.

I wish Kimberly the best of luck, and while I understand she is doing what is best for her (as it should be), as a long time fan of all three ABC Soaps, I am so very sad to see this wonderful genre disappearing, and would love to see everyone stay in place at GH, because if everyone starts jumping ship, they have no shot at survival on ABC. Again, I do not blame those that leave, as you must put your own career first, but I hope most decide to stick it out, and see if it can survive – my fingers are crossed. Call me overly optimistic, but I am hoping that ABC will be smart enough to keep GH in their daytime line-up, even after Katie Couric comes on board, as I see at least one, if not both of the two shows replacing AMC and OLTL, not making the grade. The Chew is not doing well already, and the next show, looks even worse than this one. GH has a strong cast of actors, and I hope they continue on the soap, as I believe it CAN SURVIVE! I also hope that Prospect Park does pick up OLTL, as I can see many, many, many long time fans continuing their dedication to the soap online – I will, and if that works, hopefully AMC will soon follow. Good luck to all those involved, both in front of, and behind the cameras.

This is bittersweet news…Kimberly and Robin have grown up before our eyes on GH and she’s had some pretty terrific storylines over the years.
But it’s very exciting -the prospect of her directing full time.
Good for you Kimberly.

From @whitewatercrew (about 20 mins ago):

Thank you for your tweets. I have read ALL of them. I wish I had words for the type of gratitude I feel for all of your support……for so many years. Personally, I feel like it’s the right time for me to pursue my dream of directing episodic TV as well as writing…and directing feature films. I am heartbroken as well. To leave Robin, a character that is a huge part of myself and my life. GH is my family and you (the fans) are like my extended family. I hope you will come with my along the journey… I’ve enjoyed getting to…know so many of you. If if wasn’t for you, I wouldn’t have been able to make NGFL, a film that ultimately gave me the courage to leave the…nest and step behind the camera. In the coming months @Jason_CT and I will pour our heart and soul into the story that is given to us. I can promise you that much. Everything else is out of our control. I am sad too, but I intend to make the best of it. Again, thanks for the love and opinions and support. I appreciate it more than I can ever express. Stay tuned…

Also, from @Jason_CT (about 8 mins ago):

It goes without saying that it won’t be the same without my better half. But I couldn’t be more proud of @whitewatercrew .xxoo To you, the fans who have supported us for years..with love, thank you! As we do everyday..we’ll put everything we have into what’s next. As @whitewatercrew always does. With grace, dignity, heart and courage.

I”m so sad about the news of Kimberly leaving GH, and acting as well, I wish her nothing but the best, however, i’m sad because this means the end for her wonderful character, and now theres no chance of Robert and Anna returning full time. I really feel like GH is dying out slowly, and will end with no chance of going out w/ a bang, especially if its stars start leaving before it ends.

Wouldn’t have been funny if she directed GH? Hell, she could have written for it as well.

Best regards Kim.

I will be sorry to see you leave the show as I have watched you since you were a little girl. If your story line is to die due to aids it will truly be sad but fitting. I am only guessing on this but wish you the best in your up coming adventures.

good luck to both of you in everything you do thanks for being amazing Characters xoxo your fan Monica

good luck to you in everything you do thanks for being a amazing actress xoxo your fan Monica

i think it really sucks she hated the fact her parents was not there for her and now she going to do the same to her little girls

Love Steve Burton and loved the interview!!!! Watched all of them and she is really going to be missed by all of us! Great interviews and best of luck Kimberly!

I am going to miss her I just watched the interview with MB and personally I think his acting has improved 100% with the nuKate.

NOT HAPPY ABOUT IT!!!

I AM SO UPSET , I ACTUALLY CRIED I HAD A SPECIAL NICKNAME THAT I CALLED ROBIN IT WAS (PEANUT) . THE FIRST TIME WAS WHEN SHE WAS 6-7 YEARS WITH THE FRONT MISSING TEETH . NOW THERE IS NO WAY THAT SHE CAN COME BACK , BECAUSE THERE IS NO WAY THAT SHE WOULD HAVE AN EVIL TWIN .

I feel terrible that actress Kimberly Mccullough is leaving General Hospital because after all is she is a great actress. I certainly wish her the best of luck in her future endeavors. Lisa Weiner

I seldom get to watch GH because I work full time, but this young lady was one of my favorite characters on the show. Her storyline through the years has been good and I’ve enjoyed the role she played in her marriage. I hope GH can survive with both Lucky and Robin leaving the show. It’s a good show and I enjoy the characters who have been with the show for many years.

I’ve been a fan more than 2 decades and have grown very close to most of the cast. I can almost assure you if Robin, Jason, Sonny, Carley, Dante’, Lulu and Michael leave GH will be history. Knowing Jason is gone I doubt if I watch it anymore!!

This week on all-new episodes of General Hospital, new and old motivations come into play with dangerous consequences. According to the just released GH video spoilers video for the week of August 3-7, a bailiff calls out, “All rise!”

Now it’s Isaiah (Sawandi Wilson) vs. Curtis (Donnell Turner), as the surgeon is suing the owner of the Savoy for assault that ruined is ability to operate. At the end of the day, which of these men has enough evidence against the other? Portia (Brook Kerr) is by Isaiah’s side, while Jordan (Tanisha Harper) is with Curtis.

Later, there is a small baggie containing three blue pills. Nina (Cynthia Watros) ask Willow (Katelyn MacMullen), “What did you do?” We also see Michael asking the same thing of Jacinda (Paige Herschell). Leading into this week, viewers know that Willow doesn’t want the former escort anywhere near her children, Amelia and Wiley. Is this how she stops her, or is Jacinda up to old tricks and wants to frame Willow? Remember when Jacindsa drugged Drew (Cameron Mathison)? Stay tuned.

Finally, in the pick-up from last Friday’s cliffhanger, an emotional Jason (Steve Burton) continues to tell Sonny (Maurice Benard) that he cannot work for him anymore. Sonny ask, “So that’s it? You’re Out?” We fade to black.

Vincent Pastore of ‘Sopranos’ Fame and ‘General Hospital’s’ Maximus Giambetti Dies at 80

Published

Vincent Pastore, best known for his memorable role as Salvatore “Big Pussy” Bonpensiero on HBO’s The Sopranos has passed away.

The veteran actor was found dead on August 1st in his home in the Bronx, New York. Pastore was 80-years-old. The cause of death is yet to be determined.

As well as his role on The Sopranos, many soap fans will recall he played multiple smaller roles on the beloved One Life to Live from 1995 and 2004. However, in 2008, he landed the short-term role as Maximus Giambetti on General Hospital.

PASTORE WANTED TO BE ON GENERAL HOSPITAL

Maximus was the mobster father of Sonny Corinthos’ (Maurice Benard) bodyguards: Max (Derk Cheetwood) and Milo (Drew Cheetwood)

According to Soap Opera Digest, Pastore told Soaps In Depth back in 2009, after appearing in a SOAPnet promotional campaign as a celebrity fan of General Hospital: “‘I’d love to be on the show. So they called up GH’s casting director (Mark Teschner) and Bobby (Robert Guza Jr. ex-head writer, GH) and they wrote me in!”

Pastore was a huge General Hospital fan from way back, who at one point told producers that he would watch the ABC soap opera while working in bars and nightclubs in the 70s and 80s.

Throughout his decades long career, Pastore appeared in films including: Goodfellas, Carlito’s Way and Men of Respect, The Jerky Boys: The Movie and the 1996 HBO TV movie Gotti.

In TV, besides The Sopranos, Pastore’s credits included: Law & Order, The Practice, Son of the Beach, Queens Supreme, Hawaii Five-0, Wu-Tang: An American Saga, plus the miniseries The Last Don II. Most recently, Vincent was a series regular on Gravesend and guest starred on Yellowjackets.

Pastore is survived by his daughter, Renee, son-in-law and granddaughter.
