Whoa! While many of us were still waking up in the west coast, it looks like the powers-that-be at General Hospital may have had a change of heart!  Rebecca Herbst (Elizabeth Webber) who was set to exit the series in March, and was let-go after almost 14 years with the show may be staying after all!  A tweet this morning from ABC Soaps In Depth stated, “Breaking News: Becky Herbst (Liz) NOT leaving #GH? You heard it hear first! Details soon”

Now comes word that Soap Opera Digest is reporting that indeed Herbst is staying. Sources say the network is expected to release a statement regarding the change of heart. Check back to On-Air On-Soaps for further developments.

Could it be that the huge outcry from the fantastic and wonderful fan base of Becky’s saved the actress?  Stay tuned!

I hope the rumours are true! Well deserved for Becky, a true talent and a definite asset to General Hospital.

I really hope that its true! Becky is a hardworking and talented actress, and don’t forget veteran of the show, and her firing was absolutely wrong. GH has let too many veteran go, due by “storyline-dictated” exits. Elizabeth Webber still has so many story to tell. And, once again, I hope this is true. (:

I hope it’s true. There is so much GH needs to do with this character starting with finally telling Liason’s love story. The greatest love story never told. YET!

I couldn’t be more thrilled with their decision! Thank you for always being so fantastic to Becky and to her fans Michael! I had given up on GH, her firing was the last straw in a series of misdeeds by TPTB who seem to want to forget certain parts of General Hospital-the HOSPITAL side! Becky Nation!! I hope we get a Webber sibling story, that would be awesome. No matter what coupling fans like for Elizabeth-we all love Becky/Elizabeth. She is more than any pairing, she is the heart of GH and I for one can’t wait to see what… Read more »

This is the best news I have heard in awhile. I was going to stop watching GH upon her departure. I’d like to think that we fans had something to do with this. I know I wrote the show a letter about it. Now give her a great storyline! Then bring Genie Francis back!

BeckyNation rocks! I am so glad we got Becky re-hired, assuming that is the case. I just hope this means tptb will quit backburning her and give her character, Elizabeth Webber, some REAL stories. She should be there helping Michael w/his rape, and I would LOVE to see her have a GNO with Robin and Brenda and even BrookLynn too. BrookLynn and Elizabeth should realize they have nothing to fight about and move on from the pettiness into a friendship. And hey, can I get a REAL liason story now? 😀

I am so elated that Becky is back with GH!
Now onto bigger and better story lines for her
I hope the writers bring back the honest, kind, spunky Liz!

Viva Liz!

I hope it is true! If so, I’ll continue watching for Becky, and try to ignore all the silly mob mania.
But, now the question is are they just going to sideline her and let her fade away like Alan, or are we actually going to finally get to see Liz in a quality storyline? There are a lot more things that can be done with this character, even the old “amnesia and return as a bad girl plot”. We all know Becky can be one fantastic bad girl.

If I were Rebecca Herbst, I would not return after GH’s behavior because that is insulting my talent, reputattion, and disrespecting my 14 years of dedication.

IF it’s true then congrats to Becky. I have respect for the actress although in my opinion watching the character onscreen is like watching paint dry. I’m not buying that it’s due to public outcry that they brought her back though. Thinking it’s more of a matter of her coming back with a lower salary.

I believe that whatever reconstructing or the thing that they did, as they say, if that’s really the reason, it was because of the public backlash on Rebecca Herbst’s firing. I mean, if that is the real reason, they would have done so before they fired RH, not after. I think the public outcry definitely played a big factor in TPTB reversing this horrendous decision.

Inez

Agreed with Saher M. This was SOLELY due to fan outcry because the fans, especially longtime fans, have had enough of this show continuously disrespecting history and longtime fan favorites. It’s no different than when the fans lashed out at TPTB when they thought it would be a good idea to have Michael kill his own father AJ some years back. Due to fan outrage, which the brass eventually admitted to, they changed that entire storyline. Becky’s firing was the straw that broke the camel’s back for many people. She’s a legacy character and deserves to be treated as such.… Read more »

I am delighted that those in charge have reversed their decision to re-hire Rebecca. She is one of the only reason I still watch GH. I hope that the writers go back to writing Liz as the spunky, kind woman she was and not the character they have warped her into in the last two years.
Becky is such a fabulous actress and like the poll in SID she deserves a new story.

If they can redeem murderers and rapists on soaps and turn villains into heroes, they can redeem Elizabeth Webber. Sleeping with her fiancé’s brother is the lesser of those offenses. And as much as it would be nice for her to tell them where they can go, as no one would blame her for that in the least, she still has to pay the bills and GH is a steady paycheck. Unless she gets an offer she can’t refuse elsewhere, from another soap, primetime gig, or film, I can understand pride taking a backseat at this point and she has… Read more »

Screw that! Elizabeth should be the bad girl for a change and be the single mother like a lot of women are. She needs to toughin up and take charge of her life. Even if she’s got to fuck some people over to take care of her boys. I want Elizabeth to get Lucky and Nicholas for child support and destroy heleana. Let that old hag feel the pain on the way to hell!
It would be interesting to see Franco as Keesha Ward’s screte husband. Then they both play with Jason. ha! ha!

Franco and Keesha Ward? That would be hot! She was fine as hell in the 90’s
GH was just being racist during that period; they didn’t want a White typical actor with a Black actresses as a couple. That maked since from a white point of view and that goes to show that America hasn’t changed much since the turbulent days in the 20th centry.
Especially good looking white men. No, GH wouldn’t go for that.

Yes, yoou’re right about that; but we are now in the 21st Centry and television has changed with the times. With immigration constantly growing in America, society has no choice but to tolorate with such change. However, people know that predudice is based on how people feeling inside. Morally, is wrong to discriminate but you can’t change how an individual feel. So lets’s keep it real. Either way, it would be nice to see more black actors and actresses on Daytime TV like General Hospital as star roles; not just guests or temporary roles and get booted out like they… Read more »

That’s what i just said. I think you are trying to agree with me but at the same time, you are not facing the fact that Daytime TV are still being racist in many other ways today. So, you keep it real.
Viewers plus ratings equals money. That’s what it’s all about now. Why didn’t black actors try other Daytime Soaps during the 90s? The keesha Ward character could’ve join Young And The Restless and landed a role there. They had more black actors who had major roles.

I see you act like you knew the answer to that point of view, but like you said, Keeping it real. During the 1990s, Daytime TV Soaps were beginning to break racial barriers when came to interracial couples being put on the screen. Therefore, General Hospital used one black family like the wards to see how well they can fit into their enviorment where the Quartemaines lived. When I saw these episodes then and the way the ward family storyline was depicted, raised a lot of red flags. I’m talking about Civil Rights Leaders from real black communities that might… Read more »

You sound like a typical NAACP bitter person. How can you say Daytime TV is still racist? If you know so much about race and society, tell me how many Daytime TV Soaps that actually have black actors playing major roles? I can name quite a few. Black people have many more opportunities than any other American today and they are rising quite swiftly. I agree with Bootycrack’s point when he/she compared to Daytime TV in the 1990s and today. It has made remarkable changes. By the way, there are black producers, casting and directors who hires the actors. Idiot!… Read more »

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Mike’s Family Says Their Goodbyes in Emotional Episode Filled With Touching Performances

For anyone who has been watching the emotional Alzheimer’s storyline play out on General Hospital, Wednesday’s episode was a key moment in the storytelling and for the Corinthos family.  To say that the cast delivered in this episode is an understatement; everyone had their moments, and of course, chief among them, Maurice Benard (Sonny).

Mike’s (Max Gail) life is coming to an end as his body is shutting down from the disease.  Stella (Vernee Watson) comes to Mike’s room at Turning Woods and tells Sonny that Mike is waiting for permission to let go.  She explains to Sonny that Mike is torn between this world and the afterlife.   Stella helps Sonny prepare for the final moments of Mike’s life, dimming the lights, giving Sonny ice chips to put on his father’s lips, and for Sonny to put on some of Mike’s favorite music – jazz.   She also gets Mike a blanket because he is getting cold.  Then in a touching moment played to perfection by Vernee Watson, Stella says her own goodbye to Mike and hugs Sonny and tells him how grateful she was to know Mike.

Carly (Laura Wright) had been by Sonny’s side every step of the way in the final days of Mike’s life.  At one point in Mike’s room with Sonny, she has a dream where Mike tells her she is his daughter.  It was another heartbreaking moment – this time played beautifully by Laura Wright.  Earlier, Michael (Chad Duell) said goodbye to his grandfather and Josslyn (Eden McCoy) had also come to Turning Woods, as has Brando (Johnny Wactor) to be there for the end of Mike’s life and to support Sonny

Sonny tells Mike, (who can hear, but cannot truly respond as the disease continues to shut down his body), that he has made peace with what went down between them when he was a child.  He tells Mike, “I just want you to go in peace and go with love.”  Later, Sonny had a recollection seeing his father pray in the back of the church when he was a child, which sparked an idea for him.   Jason (Steve Burton) and Sonny know that Mike wants to be forgiven for his sins.

Then in the tearjerker, Father Ramos arrives to bless Mike and cleanse him from all of his sins, as Sonny, Carly, Michael and Josslyn witness it.

Afterwards, Jason realizes that Mike probably does not want to die in front of Sonny and tells Sonny to take a break, but Sonny does not want to – so Jason whispers to Mike that he should not worry that he will take care of Sonny. The two hope Mike will meet up with Morgan in heaven.

At the end of the episode, alone with his father, Sonny tells Mike not to be afraid, or to worry about him, and then remembers the night Mike walked out on him and his mother when he was a kid.  He says he knows his father always loved him … maybe too much.  We fade to black.  Maurice Benard’s work was again outstanding throughout these moments, making Sonny’s life-long pain, and love for this father, palpable.

As someone who went through this horrible disease with his mother, I can say, that GH played the beats of the story to perfection, honoring those afflicted with Alzheimer’s and the family members they leave behind.

So, what did you think of this emotional episode of GH and the performances by the cast? Comment below.

GH’s Lisa LoCicero Delivers The ‘Power Performance of the Week’

Let’s just make this official as we tweeted about it last week when these scenes aired on Tuesday.  And let’s just say, that Lisa LoCicero (Olivia) could very well receive another Daytime Emmy nomination next year in the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series, if these moments are part of her reel.  LoCicero was previously nominated in 2015 in this category.

Now on to that performance that had everyone a-buzz on social media after it aired.  In the scenes, Robert (Tristan Rogers) has worked his WSB contacts to get Olivia to Geneva to secretly see her son, Dante (Dominic Zamprogna), who is suffering from severe trauma and PTSD and is at this facility for treatment.  After traveling half way around the world to get there, with anticipation and wanting to hold her son and be there for him – when she arrives the doctor (Christopher Cousins) tells Dante his mother is here to see him, but Dante refuses to let that happen.

When the doctor tells Olivia that Dante will not open the door to his room to talk to his mom and come face-to-face with her, she goes into momma bear mode, releasing such heartache and anguish, just wanting to see Dante, but she is met with a steely shut door instead.  But as viewers saw, the scenes were made all the more poignant by the split screen; where Dante is on the other side of the door – heartbroken hearing his mother’s cries.  Dominic Zamprogna, who is always stellar, was also moving in these moments.

However, it was LoCicero’s ability to call up such deep rooted love and pain for her child, that any parent could relate to, which broke our hearts, rang so true, and showcased Lisa.

Later in the week, we also see how Liv was there for Robert in return  – and the two are now off on a mission of their own to find Holly (if she is indeed very much alive) which is sure to put a further wedge in her marriage to Ned (Wally Kurth).  That begs the questions, too.  How would you feel about a Robert and Olivia pairing…or would you be rooting for Olivia and Ned to work through their issues?

Through it all, it was Lisa LoCicero who grabbed our attention, brought out the hankies for all of us, and truly compelled the audience.  For all of these reasons, Michael Fairman TV names Lisa’s work The Power Performance of the Week.

So, what did you think of Lisa in these scenes with Dominic? In case you missed them, you can check them out below, then share your thoughts in the comment section.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Britt is the New Chief of Staff; But Who is the New Head Nurse?

On Friday’s General Hospital, the staff at the hospital was in for a shock when none other than Dr. Britt Westbourne (Kelly Thiebaud) waltzed in and announced that she was in the new Chief of Staff.  That left Finn (Michael Easton), Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst), Epiphany (Sonya Eddy) and Portia (Brook Kerr) reeling.

Apparently, Cyrus Renault (Jeff Kober) believes in Britt, and since he is now running the hospital and already pink-slipped Monica (Leslie Charleson) and Bobbie (Jackie Zeman), putting someone with a sketchy past in that position, who might do his bidding for him, was the perfect move for the drug lord.

Britt tells the crew that she is horrified by the mismanagement that has been happening at GH.  She then tells Elizabeth and Epiphany to check their new schedules as outlined by the new head nurse.  When everyone fires back at Britt that Epiphany is the head nurse, Britt reveals that it is Cyrus’ decision since he is now Chairman of the Board at GH.

Then, in a shocking moment for each of them, Elizabeth finds out that Epiphany has been put into an administrative position, where she will not be with the patients, while Liz has been cut back to only two shifts a week demoted to the satellite crew.

Finn is also in hot water as Britt tells him they need to set up a meeting, while Portia’s fate seems to be that she is safe, when Britt says she believes in her, and so too, does Cyrus.

What did you think of Britt arriving on the scene as the new Chief of Staff?  Who do you think might be GH’s new head nurse? Share your thoughts on the staffing changes via the comment section below.
