‘Brilliant Minds’ Back-Half of Season 2 Featuring DAYS Alum Al Calderon Gets Return Date
With its future in question, and after NBC pulled the last six episodes of its second season, the medical drama, Brilliant Minds is finally heading back to your screen which features former Days of our Lives star, Al Calderon (ex-Javi) who now plays Nurse Nico Silva.
As DAYS viewers know, Calderon’s final appearance as Javi is yet to stream on Peacock, and the character was recast months ago, since the soap opera’s taping schedule is significantly far away, ten months, from when it drops its episodes on the streamer.
However, Brilliant Minds fans can see Calderon back on the series starring Zachary Quinto (Dr. Oliver Wolf) beginning on May 27. Brilliant Minds is also moving to a new night for their final episodes of the season as it shifts from Mondays to Wednesdays at 8/7c.
The back-half of Season 2 promises to lean into the “case-of-the-week” format and is bringing in some A-listers for guest appearances including Ed Begley Jr. and Anne Archer appearing in the season finale as a couple dealing with the reality of memory loss, plus look for Mamie Gummer and Ana Ortiz to appear in the lead-up to the finale.
Taking to his Instagram on Thursday, March 12, Calderon shared he’s wrapped up his role on the primetime medical series for now, expressing, “I love these people. I love Brilliant Minds. What a ride. That’s a Season 2 wrap on Mister Nico Silva.”
Brilliant Minds was pulled from the network’s lineup in February for the Winter Olympics, but did not returned after the games ended, causing concern NBC might just shelve the show right there. However, now the season will be shown in full over the beginning of the summer months, with still no word if it will live to see another day for its third season, even though its developed a strong fan base.
So, glad to hear you will see more of Al and ‘Brilliant Minds’ for six more episodes? Do you hope the series is finally renewed by NBC? Do you miss Al on DAYS? Let us know via the comment section.

Love this show! It should be getting as much attention as other medical shows on right now. Hope it gets a 3rd season!
Sadly this brilliant, thoughtful show during season 1 was destroyed by big cast changes in season 2 (Al Calderon being the exception), an unlikeable new resident, and adrenaline fueled storyline changes. The show really ended at the end of season 1. R.I.P.

DAYS OF OUR LIVES Preview: Kristen Locates an Alive Sophia, How Much Does Rita Know About the Birth of Dominic Marino?

Next week, expected surprises and schemes on Days of our Lives. In official spoilers for episodes streaming on Peacock from October 5-9, it looks like Kristen (Stacy Haiduk) has hunted down a very much alive Sophia Choi (Rachel Boyd), while Marlena (Deidre Hall) admits a deeply concerning confession to her daughter Belle (Martha Madison), and more.
As previously reported, Tajh Bellow (ex-TJ Ashford, General Hospital) is stepping in for one day for Tyler Joseph Andrews in the role of Theo Carver and will share scenes with Gabi (Cherie Jimenez), where Theo finally agrees to go along with Gabi’s plan, after she offered him a job.
Meanwhile, Gabi may have her hands full with Philip (John-Paul Lavoisier) whose big win in Monte Carlo may have sparked his gambling addiction … all over again, but Philip reveals her has a plan.

Sydney (Sydney Malekeh) is in for a shock when Dante (Franco LoPresti) arrives in Salem. Why is he in Salem? Is he part of the unraveling of the Dominic Marino mystery, since we know he seemed like he was talking to the man in Monte Carlo?
Will Marlena ever figure out what Rita (Maggie Carney) is hiding about the mystery of Dominic, and if Marlena is truly his birth mother or did something more suspicious go on and how deeply involved is Rita in this whole story?
EJ (Dan Feuerriegel) finally demands answers of his own from Rita after overhearing on today’s Cliffhanger Friday her conversation with Marlena. Will Rita cop to anything?
Then as noted, while everyone thinks Sophia took her own life, after Kristen “murdered” her, Kristen is infuriated to find she is somehow alive working as waitress in a diner in Kentucky. Will Kristen try to kill Sophia yet again?

Was Rita more involved with Stefano DiMera than we even know? Who is the birth mother of Dominic? Is it really Marlena or did someone else carrying her child? And what of Dante? Why is he back in Salem? To get at Philip, or something else? Weigh-in via the comment section below.
