Bruce Weitz chats on Anthony Zacchara's return to GH!

Guess you can’t keep a loony tune mobster locked in prison for a long term sentence after all! That is what is happening in the latest mob wars on General Hospital, now that Bruce Weitz’s diabolical and crazy Anthony Zacchara is going to be sprung from jail!  Weitz chatted with TV Guide to give the low down on what Anthony Z’s intentions are to get Michael Corinthos offer on the Zacchara’s side and more.   Here are a few excerpts!

Weitz on Anthony recruting Michael to the mob:  “Anthony loves the fact that Claudia is dead and he doesn’t care who did it. He got rid of her and he didn’t have to do it himself, so he’s fine with it. Anthony has nothing against Michael except that he’s Sonny’s son. If he weren’t, he’d probably like the kid. Anthony is only using Michael as leverage against Sonny.”

Weitz on who else Anthony will be mixing it up with in Port Chuck: “He’s going through a whole renewal of his spirit and very busy coming on to women. (Laughs)After this long stint in jail, he’s a real horny devil! And he really goes for it with Carly. He’s in romantic mode-plus! He has some great scenes with Johnny’s girlfriend, Lisa. Also Michael and Abby.”

Weitz on his thought on playing mob stories on daytime: “There’s no real threat on our show because the true soap-opera fans know Maurice Benard [Sonny] is not going to get killed off. So the threat is imaginary. In The Godfather you don’t expect Brando to get shot a quarter of the way through the movie, or that James Caan’s character will die. That’s the real danger of living in the world of mobsters and hoodlums. So you can’t really equate the two. At GH, we’re just having fun.”

Are you looking forward to the unleashing of the zany and evil mob boss?

Nancy Lee Grahn Kicks-Off Her 25th Year as General Hospital’s Alexis; Thanks Fans & Shares: “What a Ride”

She’s one of the best of the best!  And on Saturday, Nancy Lee Grahn acknowledged the start of her 25th year as Alexis Davis on ABC’s General Hospital.

Nancy, who daytime fans first loved on One Life to Live and then Santa Barbara, came to Port Charles and quickly became one of its leading mainstays.

On Twitter, marking the occasion, Nancy thanked her fans with this: “Wow! I start my 25th year on  @generalhospital  today. What a ride. It’s been one of my greatest pleasures to be connected to & supported by such a beautiful, loving, loyal #gh audience. We are and have always been in this together. I hope you can feel my most sincere virtual hug.”

Currently in story, Alexis just lost the new love of her life Neil and on Friday’s episode of GH, Alexis was blamed for his death by Neil’s brother when she tried to attend his memorial service.  Later, she landed at the Floating Rib with Valentin – but when he got into it with Ned and stepped outside, Alexis ordered a drink.  Not a good sign for this recovering alcoholic, and all this came on the heels of Alexis learning she has osteoporosis.

Through the years, story after story, beat after beat, we are lucky to have Nancy on our screens with her consistently riveting and honest performances.

What has been your favorite Alexis storyline through the years?  And … make sure to wish Nancy a ‘happy 25th’ via the comment section below.

The Cast of General Hospital: The Alzheimer’s Storyline – Delivers The ‘Power Performance of the Week’

General Hospital’s depiction of the battle of Alzheimer’s disease and how it affects the dying, and the loved ones they leave behind, came to its heartbreaking conclusion this past week on the ABC daytime drama series.

Led by storyline standouts: Maurice Benard (Sonny) and Max Gail (Mike), who once again acted their hearts out in their final scenes together, the entire ensemble of actors who were part of this storyline each had their moments and each delivered which made Mike’s passing all the more poignant.

In a first since we started giving out our weekly kudos several years ago, Michael Fairman TV is giving our Power Performance of the Week to the cast of GH who participated in last week’s scenes for their riveting work.

From Laura Wright’s beautiful goodbye scene as Carly with Mike, where she dreams of him telling her she is a ‘daughter to him”, to Steve Burton’s all-knowing Jason, who tells Mike he will take care of Sonny and not to worry, to Michael (Chad Duell) and Josslyn (Eden McCoy) picturing how key moments of their life would look with Mike being witness to it, and the advice he would give his grandchildren, to Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) finding out that Mike is dying while being so far away from his family – each of these beats brought even more heart-tugging moments to the ending of Mike’s journey.

Even the actors who played a part in Mike’s care were touching as Vernee Watson’s Stella prepares Sonny on how to help Mike pass before saying her final goodbye to her friend.  Then there was Felix (Marc Anthony Samuel), who helped Carly and Sonny through Mike’s last moments at Turning Woods, who was also trying to keep it together through his sadness. Brando (Johnny Wactor) showed up at Turning Woods too, trying to make peace with the death he saw in the war in Afghanistan and now losing Mike.

Of course, there was the surprise moment where Mike is met by his late daughter Courtney and escorted to heaven that both Alicia Leigh Willis and Max Gail played so beautifully without saying hardly a word.

But in the end, it was Maurice Benard who showed us the devastation and acceptance of a son having to let his father go, while trying to make peace with their troubled past that was acting at its best, and perhaps some of the finest in his storied daytime career  – and there was Max Gail – the centerpiece of the storyline – who’s emotional heart was seen in all the scenes last week with the actors as the characters visualized moments with Mike.  Throughout the entire story, Gail played the tragedy of a human being trapped within this horrific disease with brilliance.  He will be missed.

So, what do you think of our choice of the cast of General Hospital for this week’s Power Performance of the Week?  Share your comments below.
