Cameron Mathison Addresses Rumors on His Status on General Hospital

In the rumor mill has been if Cameron Mathison is truly exiting his role as Drew Cain on ABC’s General Hospital. Fueling the rumors are a few things. First, Cameron recently signed a multi-year deal with Great American Media to star in movies and content.

Secondly, viewers feeling like there may be a shift in storyline for Carly (Laura Wright) with the mysterious “Mr. Brennan” (Charles Mesure) in the picture and potentially finding her way back to Sonny (Maurice Benard), if so where would that leave Drew?  It was a hot button question that many fans want to know.

Over the weekend at Christmas Con, Mathison took to his Instagram story as he walked through the crowd at the convention and looked straight into his iPhone camera and addressed the reports.

Mathison declared: “The number one question I’m getting while I’m here is whether I’m leaving General Hospital, and I don’t know why there’s a rumor out there but I’m definitely not. I’m having the best time ever on GH.”

However, look for Drew to be off the GH canvas and in Australia for a short stint,as according to Soap Opera Digest, Mathison will be shooting an outside project.

The All My Children fan favorite, where he came to soap prominence in the role of Ryan Lavery from 1998-20i1, came to General Hospital to take over the role of Drew Cain in 2021. Recently, Drew was sent to prison for the SEC insider trading scandal involving Carly.  Now a free man again in Port Charles, looks like Drew will be involved with a battle with the Quartermaine for ELQ and Aurora Media business.  But, will Drew’s romance with Carly last?

Since Cameron is staying put on GH, do you want to see Drew with Carly, or would you like to see him paired romantically with another character on the canvas.  If so, who? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below.

The writing for this character HAS to improve. He has been nothing but a Carly propper and that is not a good look on any man!

The romance and the character are not working. There was depth to the Drew character when Miller played him. Maybe with the permanent writers returning they’ll explore other parts of Drew’s personality (like the never mentioned Jason’s memories or more of his past). If he truly wants to take over ELQ, take the Quartermaine name for crying’ out loud.

If LC is back for a while, give him a scene with his “mother” to reinforce the Q bond

You make some good points here. He never accomplishes much, just seems to tread water. Why doesn’t he go after Ned and Michael and as you say demand if necessary, his rightful place as a “Q”? Can we really see him as a body guard or enforcer for Sonny , and as you said why aren’t they using those “burried” or whatever they are calling Jason’s memories? I kind of feel sorry for him, seems to have left all his smarts with AMC.

I’d prefer not to see him at all.

I got excited for a moment hoping the answer would be yes… I just can’t get into seeing Cameron Matheson as Drew. He’s never fit the role for me, especially with the way they’ve written him. He and Laura Wright do have chemistry, but it would have made far more sense to cast him as a new character and either keep Drew off screen, or bring in someone who better fits the role and could actually pass as Jason’s twin.

Speaking of Jason, when he returned in 2017 and Carly rehashed how she was involved with Franco, her excuse was that subconsciously she wanted to fill the void left by Jason’s “death” in 2012, and thought she could do that with his twin, who she believed was Franco at the time… Isn’t that exactly what she’s done with Drew?! She was married to Jason and is now involved with his actual twin… Does no one else see the irony!?

I just hope that when Drew returns, he comes back with a new personality and better story.

And just to expand on that… the only reason Hallmark Drew has feelings for Carly is because he’s still got all of Jason’s memories from 1996-2012 in his head. So while he may now know that he’s NOT Jason, his brain’s “filing system” still says otherwise.

Whatever happened to the disco ball USB drive with Drew’s original memories on it anyway? They used it to copy those memories into Frodd’s brain (one of the dumbest plot points ever) but after that it was never mentioned again… most probably because real Drew was presumed to be dead from a plane crash at the time. If they’re going to keep the Drew character around at all, maybe they should deploy the brain-mapping “science” one last time, and give him back what’s rightfully his?

He could leave and the canvas would not suffer one bit. He’s an expandable cast member in a role he should have never been cast into.

He can go work for his new bosses at the homophobic, ignorant network and never come back. Life is short and I’m too old to have to tolerate the intolerable.

This week on all-new episodes of General Hospital, new and old motivations come into play with dangerous consequences. According to the just released GH video spoilers video for the week of August 3-7, a bailiff calls out, “All rise!”

Now it’s Isaiah (Sawandi Wilson) vs. Curtis (Donnell Turner), as the surgeon is suing the owner of the Savoy for assault that ruined is ability to operate. At the end of the day, which of these men has enough evidence against the other? Portia (Brook Kerr) is by Isaiah’s side, while Jordan (Tanisha Harper) is with Curtis.

Next, Lucy (Lynn Herring) has a plan to get the controlling shares of Deception away from Michael (Rory Gibson). She wants her daughter, Serena (Kelly Kruger) to seduce Michael. Later, there is a small baggie containing three blue pills. Nina (Cynthia Watros) ask Willow (Katelyn MacMullen), “What did you do?” We also see Michael asking the same thing of Jacinda (Paige Herschell). Leading into this week, viewers know that Willow doesn’t want the former escort anywhere near her children, Amelia and Wiley. Is this how she stops her, or is Jacinda up to old tricks and wants to frame Willow? Remember when Jacindsa drugged Drew (Cameron Mathison)? Stay tuned.

Finally, in the pick-up from last Friday’s cliffhanger, an emotional Jason (Steve Burton) continues to tell Sonny (Maurice Benard) that he cannot work for him anymore. Sonny ask, “So that’s it? You’re Out?” We fade to black.

Vincent Pastore of ‘Sopranos’ Fame and ‘General Hospital’s’ Maximus Giambetti Dies at 80

Published

Vincent Pastore, best known for his memorable role as Salvatore “Big Pussy” Bonpensiero on HBO’s The Sopranos has passed away.

The veteran actor was found dead on August 1st in his home in the Bronx, New York. Pastore was 80-years-old. The cause of death is yet to be determined.

As well as his role on The Sopranos, many soap fans will recall he played multiple smaller roles on the beloved One Life to Live from 1995 and 2004. However, in 2008, he landed the short-term role as Maximus Giambetti on General Hospital.

PASTORE WANTED TO BE ON GENERAL HOSPITAL

Maximus was the mobster father of Sonny Corinthos’ (Maurice Benard) bodyguards: Max (Derk Cheetwood) and Milo (Drew Cheetwood)

According to Soap Opera Digest, Pastore told Soaps In Depth back in 2009, after appearing in a SOAPnet promotional campaign as a celebrity fan of General Hospital: “‘I’d love to be on the show. So they called up GH’s casting director (Mark Teschner) and Bobby (Robert Guza Jr. ex-head writer, GH) and they wrote me in!”

Pastore was a huge General Hospital fan from way back, who at one point told producers that he would watch the ABC soap opera while working in bars and nightclubs in the 70s and 80s.

Throughout his decades long career, Pastore appeared in films including: Goodfellas, Carlito’s Way and Men of Respect, The Jerky Boys: The Movie and the 1996 HBO TV movie Gotti.

In TV, besides The Sopranos, Pastore’s credits included: Law & Order, The Practice, Son of the Beach, Queens Supreme, Hawaii Five-0, Wu-Tang: An American Saga, plus the miniseries The Last Don II. Most recently, Vincent was a series regular on Gravesend and guest starred on Yellowjackets.

Pastore is survived by his daughter, Renee, son-in-law and granddaughter.
