Longtime All My Children favorite and current co-host of Hallmark’s Home & Family, Cameron Mathison, took to his Instagram account on Friday to share his enthusiasm and excitement for what’s to come this summer when he joins ABC’s General Hospital.

No word yet as to what role Mathison will play – and whether it will indeed be Pine Valley’s Ryan Lavery, a new character, or a recast character from the past such as how Kim Delaney took over the role of Jackie Templeton, who has not been seen on the canvas for decades since Demi Moore made that role soap-famous.

In his post today, Cameron expressed thanks to GH EP Frank Valentini and the writing team,  noting: “Almost 10 years after All My Children went off the air I am so excited to be joining General Hospital this summer! I was a member of the abc family for over 15 years and soon I’ll be back: Incredibly grateful to Frank Valentini and the writers at GH for including me on such an iconic show I feel like a kid on Christmas, as I’ll also continue making Hallmark movies and continue to be part of that family as well😀🙏🏼 So so excited… thank you!!!! (More details to come😉)”

So, who do you think Cameron will play once he hits Port Charles?  Let us know and make sure to take our poll below on how you want Mathison to be integrated into the story as Ryan, a new character or a recast character blast from the past? Share your thoughts in the comment section.

He is so going to be a recast Lucky…..putting him opposite Elizabeth with a triangle set up with a returning Hayden…..Rebecca And Cameron were s super couple on AMC and Elizabeth has chemistry with the phone book!

He would be a terrible choice for a Lucky re- cast, just terrible. That would be even worse choice than Jacob Young was.

I can’t see the 51 year old CM playing Lucky when they reversed SORAS’d Nikolas from TC to MC. Bring GV back as Lucky. JJ will never come back full time.

Greg is 47. Younger than Cameron but still a decade older than Jonathan Jackson. And especially with the grey in his hair (at least when last seen on Days) there’s no way he could pass as the younger brother of the current version of Nikolas.

Didn’t mind Greg’s version of the character back in the day, though he seemed like an entirely different person. But I don’t think he would be a good fit for the part right now. Really wish JJ would come back though, because given all the family drama going on right now…. from Lulu being comatose, to HIS kids mourning a ridiculous excuse for a stepfather they should have never been stuck with, to his mom having to deal with her two “new” brothers – and all that comes with those two…. Lucky Spencer is definitely needed in Port Charles right now.

Your saying that Greg’s version of Lucky was like a different person is spot on. Tony Geary did not have the same bond with GV and it was evident on screen. Ethan was introduced primarily because of that. Also, GV played Lucky during the years that Genie was primarily missing from the canvas, so not much history to play off there.

Yes, with the reverse SORAS of Nikolas, GV would not fit in the current cast.

Greg Vauhn was terrific!

Too old!

No way. With those blue eyes my bet is a Drew recast. We need more Q’s.

Please, soap gods! no Drew recast as a matter of fact.no Drew period! that character was a total disappointment and waste. No lucky recast either.only JJ or GV imo can do that role..if he can’t be Ryan Lavery then someone totally new. and not looking for a quick love connection or hookup.unless it’s Hayden Barns and only Hayden Barns.no one else.

Angie, looks like you were right. Can’t believe or accept it.

I would love it if he were Ryan…just to have that piece of AMC on the canvas. Just like i am hoping when Roger Howarth comes back, he’ll be Todd from OLTL. The one thing they need to do is to put Michael Easton back as John McBain. I prefer his OLTL character over any of the others he’s played on GH since Prospect Park ruined it for us those years ago.

Well remember, Ryan Lavary was related to Duke Lavary.

Was there ever a storyline or plot point that confirmed the Ryan – Duke link? Not sure if that was just fan fiction or speculation.

It was a plot point involving Anna when she crossed over to AMC. They mentioned Ryan and Duke were cousins. I forgot the story behind the reveal but, yup, it was done.

Thanks Dennis. My GH (and OLTL) historical context is far greater than that of AMC.

I don’t think they would have another character named “Ryan” on the canvas as long as Ryan Chamberlain is still blinking away in Pentonville. I also doubt that Roger will be playing Todd Manning because I don’t believe they want to introduce yet another “so-called” reformed rapist. Fans gave them a lot of well deserved flack for both Luke and Franco.

They had two named Olivia remember Olivia Jerome/ Olivia Falconeri

Welcome back to Daytime, Cameron Mathison. Maybe Cameron will play Lucky Spencer or Drew.

CM is far too old to play Lucky. A. He’s only 7 years younger than Genie Francis and B. Lucky is supposed to be 1-2 years younger than Nikolas.

I have a strong feeling he is going to be the owner of the company that was just-recently mentioned as seeking interest in purchasing The Invader from Peter.

When I heard that, Scott, I thought that was gonna be Todd Manning’s foot back in the Port Charles door.

Time will tell!

It might… but, I honestly do not know. Considering Todd previously owned Crimson, I doubt he’d need to hide behind a company name.

I would love for him to be a recast Lucky but he’s only 7 years younger than Genie Francis. I would like to see him as either a recast Dr. Patrick Drake or Dr. Steve Webber. Only Billy Miller for Drew Cain but if Billy has no plans to return I would accept him as Drew Cain. Since Kimberly McCullough said she’s retired from acting and if Rebecca B wasn’t so fresh in our minds as Hayden, she would be a perfect recast Dr. Robin Scorpio. I think they could maybe still pull it off if they dye her hair. Anyone else have thoughts re: this? I mean they did this with Michael Easton a few times.

I could actually see him as a short term recast of Patrick Drake, since we know now that Robin is returning for a short time.

There will never be a recast of Robin Scorpio. When you literally grow up on the show from age 6, you own the role. In some ways, it sucks to only see Robin on rare occasions, but at least she’s still herself when we do see her. That beats the Hell out of the alternative.

Whoever Cameron plays I hope he brings some of his smile to Port Charles. It’s really needed.

I agree! Hopefully, he will play a new character and bring some fresh air and a fresh storyline to Port Charles!

Everyone got upset when GH started bringing in OLTL actors so why isn’t the same holding true for the AMC invasion? Not liking this news at all. Hope he isn’t Lucky because CM would be an awful as that character.

Thank you. I’m seeing others suggest he’d make a good Lucky re-cast which puzzles me. Jonathan Jackson’s Lucky was cool and had a kind of Janes Dean quality about him. Cameron reminds me of a game show host.

Yeah, Harry!

Exactly, he would be an awful Lucky.

Harry,Yes ! maybe they can get Ryan Seacrest.

I’ve been saying the same. FV was EP of both soaps. that’s why he keeps bringing them to port Charles.imo since he’s now GH EP he have more cast from both of those soaps, than GH vets or regulars and yes I’m mad about it.they have changed the characters on GH so much in the last few years.

I hope he plays his AMC role and becomes similar to what the Rae Cummings character was to all the ABC soaps. He could lead viewers to Pine Valley.. and perhaps then open a door to OLTL as well.

He may be to young to play Jeff Weber so maybe he is Tom Hardy?

That would actually be a reasonable recast. Tom Hardy hasn’t been seen in years, and obviously Matthew Ashford is busy on Days, so he won’t likely be back. It couldn’t hurt to have another member of the Hardy family on the canvas. And probably a more logical choice to be chief of staff than a literal convicted felon.

Too young for Tom Hardy as well. He should be in his early 60s by now. They could always age him though.

Tom is supposed to be just a few years younger than Scotty, so yes CM is too young.

In an only in soaps world, Tom is cousin to Scott and uncle to Elizabeth, but not biologically related to either.

Yeah, you’re probably right about the age thing. I recently saw an old episode of the show on YouTube from 77 or 78. Tommy wasn’t in the episode, but he was mentioned as being “out of town” with Audrey, so he was still a child then. As opposed to Scotty who was in law school at the time. Though Tom would obviously be SORASed a few years later. On that basis, he probably would be roughly the same age as his “cousin” Scott.

Steve
Speaking of Scott, where is he, I miss him?

So, no one is going to bring up that he is not that great an actor & often comes off bumbling and goofy? I can’t take this seriously in a role. They have already ruined the character of Lucky by having him uncharacteristically abandon his family. I like Greg Vaughan in general, but when he came on they majorly changed him & it just obliterated the the character. They should have “killed” him off instead. Some character are better left with the good memories with certain actors. Like Jason – only Steve Burton. Jonathan Jackson is Lucky.

ADJP
I agree with your concept. There are so many others also that only one actor is acceptable in a role, too numerous to mention

SAY IT ISN’T SO!! Just read that Cameron is going to be recast as Drew Cain. I can’t believe how they would think that this guy could ever fill Billy’s shoes. Iam too upset to even say more, except that my fast-forward will get a good workout.

Excited to see who he plays. I so would love for Billy Miller to come back as Drew and put him back with Sam. They had great chemistry.

‘General Hospital’s’ Steve Burton Shares Reaction to His Lead Actor Daytime Emmy Nomination, ‘It Was to Honor Leslie Charleson’

Published

The 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Award nominations kicked-off on Monday with the announcements of four major categories including, Outstanding Lead Performer in a Daytime Drama Series — Actor, and among the nominees is General Hospital’s Steve Burton (Jason Morgan).

Burton is already a two-time Daytime Emmy winner in the Supporting Actor category for his roles as GH’s Jason and his turn as Dylan McAvoy on Y&R. However, Steve is yet to win in the Lead Actor category and he has received 11 nominations along the way in his daytime career.

Following the reveal that he is a 2026 Daytime Emmy nominee, he and his GH co-star, podcast co-host and comedy show partner, Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) taped a special edition of their That’s Awesome podcast just featuring Burton’s reaction to the news.

FOR LESLIE CHARLESON

Steve expressed, “I know it’s such a cliche to say, ‘I’m just so honored to be nominated.’ But truly, I’m so grateful to be nominated, so grateful to just be on the show off and on for 30 plus years and to be nominated with the guys in my category. Just to get the opportunity. Frank (Valentini, executive producer, GH) texted me right away. I was just like, ‘Thank you for the opportunity to get to do what I do.'”

Taking in the moment, Burton thanked those who helped him select the material for his nominated reel. “Unless you win, you don’t get to say things. So. I’m going just say a few things: Elizabeth Korte (co-head writer, GH) helped me a lot with the material, (as did) Michelle Henry, who’s a producer on the show, Laura Wright (Carly, GH), and then my wife Michelle (Lundstrom). I believe it was Jill Phelps who told me that when A Martinez felt like he had a great show or great scenes, he would mark it down. So, when Emmy time comes, you have all the show numbers written down, and you don’t have to think about it, because that’s half the battle (finding the material).

Burton explained how meaningful this nomination is for him, because of playing the scenes of Jason losing Monica, and his closeness with the late, great Leslie Charleson.

“The nomination’s an amazing thing, and it’s beautiful, but really it’s to honor Leslie Charleson. A lot of my material was because of her, and how I started on the show as a Quartermaine, it just means a ton,” shared Burton. “Maurice Benard (Sonny, GH) has obviously has been instrumental, and I’ve said it from day one and I’ll shout it from the rooftops. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be here, and to be working with the people that we work with is incredible.”

SHOULD JOHN OLIVER BE NAMED HOST OF THE DAYTIME EMMYS?

During the end of his conversation with Anderson, Steve suggested that the host of the Daytime Emmy should be Last Week Tonight’s John Oliver, who recently guest starred as the head of the WSB named Z on General Hospital, and is soon to show up on Days of Our Lives in a mystery role in August.

Thus far, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has not revealed their host for the upcoming ceremony to be held on October 30 in a venue to be named in Hollywood, California.

You can watch Steve sharing his reaction to receiving his 2026 Lead Actor Daytime Emmy nomination below on a special segment on the That’s Awesome podcast.

Now let us know, are you glad that Steve chose scenes surrounding Jason mourning the loss of the woman that raised him, Monica Quartermaine for his Emmy reel? What do you think of John Oliver as a suggestion to host the Daytime Emmys? Weigh-in via the comment section below.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Jason Reconnects with Danny; Tristan Roberts Arrives in Port Charles, Lots of Nods to #16

Published

on

By

General Hospital’s 16,000th episode was packed with little reminders through points in today’s script that the ABC daytime drama series has set another milestone and it paved the way for the return of fan favorite and newly nominated Daytime Emmy Lead Actor nominee Steve Burton (Jason Morgan). The 16,000th episode also introduced viewers to the new surgeon in Port Charles Dr. Tristan Roberts played by Dean Geyer.

Here are the key takeaways and what went down on the July 13 episode: Tristan and Jason are seated next to each other on a plane heading to Port Charles. Throughout the flight, a beaten up Jason has flashbacks to being thrown into, and being held captive in a cell and tortured. It appears Jason is suffering from some form of PTSD from what he was put through after being dragged out of Port Charles by the WSB months ago.

As the plane prepares to land, Tristan tells Jason there would be a car waiting for him once they land and to enjoy the rest of his life. Later, Tristan arrives at the nurses and doctors hub at GH and approaches Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst). He tells her his name and that he is the new surgeon on staff.

A REUNION PLUS A HEAD NURSE DEFENDS SONNY

Meanwhile, at the end of the episode, Jason is outside the Quartermaine boathouse looking bewildered when he runs into Danny (Asher Antonyzyn), who is so thrilled to see his father, and the two hugs each other as tears are shed.

Elsewhere, Elizabeth tells Sonny (Maurice Benard) that he thinks its a great idea for him to get the 16th seat on the hospital board, but when it comes times to convince Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot) of that, things go awry when Tracy, Laura and Sonny try to work things out. After Tracy launches into Sonny about killing Alan and Monica’s son AJ, Sonny walks away dejected.

Next, Sonny runs into Elizabeth, where he informs her what happened with Tracy. So what’s a head nurse to do? Elizabeth marches into the conference room and reminds Tracy of all the different donations and ways Sonny has contributed to the hospital from the Stone Cates AIDS wing, to the Michael Corinthos Center for Pediatric Head Injuries as well as his constant support each year for the GH Nurses’ Ball.

WSB WAR SCARS

Then, in one of the best parts for longtime fans of the series, Elizabeth talks about her legendary grandparents, Audrey and Steve Hardy and she tells Tracy they would have wanted Sonny to have a seat on the board for all the good that he has done for the hospital. After Elizabeth states Sonny’s case, things took a turn and Tracy and Sonny wound up shaking hands as Sonny is board member #16.

In the how great was it to see Anna (Finola Hughes) and Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) together scenes department, the pick-up of last Friday’s cliffhanger is played out as the two former lovers fill each other in on what has gone down in their lives in the last several months including Valentin admitting he had been living in Carly’s attic, and Anna realizing she was kidnapped by Cullum, Sidwell and Cassius Faison. During their conversation, Anna sees the hallucination of Peter August (Wes Ramsey) right while Valentin is standing there.

Courtesy/ABC

Later Anna was on her way to saying goodbye to Valentin, when the two share an emotional hug. After Valentin made his exit, Peter reappeared and warned Anna to not let Valentin distract her because she has important work to do. Anna answers, “I know.”

So, what did you think of General Hospital’s 16,000 episode? What do you think is wrong with Jason? What is the important “work” that Anna has to do? Were you glad to see Sonny get a seat on the hospital board, or not so much. Weigh-in via the comment section. But first, check out the scenes on Jason and Tristan’s long flight to Port Charles.
