CBS Cancels ‘S.W.A.T’ Starring Shemar Moore After Six Seasons
In breaking primetime news, CBS has made the decision to cancel S.W.A.T. after six seasons. The updated crime drama of the mid-70’s was brought to life in the present day by a cast led by Y&R alum, Shemar Moore.
Moore, has played LAPD Sgt. Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson during the series run, and will be seen in its final episode when it airs on May 19.

In a statement, CBS Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach shared: “For six seasons, the amazing talents of the SWAT cast led by Shemar Moore, the writers, producers and crew guided by executive producers Shawn Ryan, Andy Dettman and Aaron Rahsaan Thomas brought us compelling, action packed episodes that also addressed important social issues and contributed to the success of our primetime line up. We sincerely thank them for their incredible work and passion and also thank our dedicated fans who tuned in every week.”
Of note: should be that ratings were not the issue with the series. In fact, it has had a rise in linear viewership year-to-year and in the double digits following its move to Fridays nights. By the numbers, S.W.A.T. has been averaging 6.82 million total viewers vs. 6.41 million in 2021-22 and it ranks among the top 20 dramas on network TV.
However, you can look at economics as a root cause. S.W.A.T. was the most expensive series needing a renewal pick-up. The show has been a co-production between Sony Pictures TV and CBS Studios. Reportedly, the issue centered around licensing fees where now CBS went up on the fee but the offer came with a reduction in series episodes, which would hurt and make the per-episode budget go higher, making it all but impossible to continue.
In addition, early reports are not confident that the series would find another home for it to continue elsewhere.
So, what do you think about the cancellation of S.W.A.T. starring Shemar Moore? Comment below, and make sure to catch Moore on Y&R this Monday May 8 when he returns to Genoa City as Malcolm Winters.
That is one our favorite shows to watch on tv. We can’t wait till Friday night for it to be on. This seems to be a mistake on CBS. They need to have shows the fans want. Get rid of some of the others with the low ratings! All the actors are 100% they give it there all. CBS do what you always do get rid of the great TV shows!!!
Sad to see the show canceled lot better than others that still are on
I agree it’s a great show. With really good actors. Get rid of the garbage shows. Watched every friday.
This is a wrong move. It is a great show.won’t belong and CBS won’t have Friday night Viewers.
CBS was probably upset that they couldn’t replicate this show to infinity, like they did with the CSI/NCIS/FBI franchises.
Satan,
One of my favorite nighttime shows. I don’t know how this stuff works, but think you might. Could it possibly be picked up by another network,i.e NBC, or ABC?
We don’t wNt them canceled we r faithful watchers of swat
This is a terrible move. Watch it every week. One if the favorites!!!
I love Swat & am very upset to hear it’s been canceled
I’m very sad to hear that Swat’s been canceled. I’m a huge fan of the show & the entire cast of amazing actors!
So sad to see the show canceled I would love if Netflix would pick it up. To Swat Team you all will be missed.
Not a lot to watch on Fridays other 20/20 and 48 hrs. I love SWAT.
CBS, once again has canceled a great show – SWAT, this is the one show I faithfully watched with my family. I will no longer watch this network. Why would U cancel a show with good ratings, it must have been on the radar for a while from what I can see. CBS use to be a great network but ….decisions with great shows have caused me to STOP looking at this network.
That really SUCKS BIG TIME.We enjoy that show alot and the actors are GREAT. Why would you do that. Wrong thing to do
its sad how the root of it all is money, the high expense to make these shows is affecting the industry. Fox had to cancel 911 for the same reason, but 911 got saved because Disney owns the show so they can put it on their network.
Big mistake to cancel it.
They keep dumb shows and get rid of the good ones…SWAT, NCI S Los Angeles…but keep dumb show Todd… nothing on Thursday worth watching and cancel good shows?????
I never could get into Shemar’s SWAT show but I know from reading about it online that it was a good show. I was upset that NCIS: Los Angeles was axed.
So Help Me Todd is an acquired taste for sure. Quirky and funny in some respects. There have been episodes of that show that have left me scratching my head. It’s almost as if Marcia Gay Harden is “phoning it in” when it comes to delivering her lines.
Sure cancel a great show and keep all the Crap shows. What a mistake!!!! Our entire family watches this show, best actors and context on tv. We send heartfelt love to all!!
My husband and I are so sad to hear about this cancellation. It was one the only shows we enjoyed watching together. We really hope CBS will reconsider!
Cancelling S.W.A.T. is a huge mistake. I love that show and I watch anything that Shamar Moore is in. I’m praying it will get worked out or picked up by another network
When Shemar was on The Talk he was so happy about SWAT. It is shocking.
How sweet and touching the scenes today on Y&R when Malcolm/ Shemar Moore appeared. I didn’t realize how much I missed seeing him on the show. The plots they could come up with now, knowing he and Lily are really father and daughter, despite her love for Neil who raised her and Devon would be fantastic.
Congrats Shemar, the idiots saw the light!
CBS Is making ” A BIG MISTAKE ” getting rid of S.W.A.T. it a good series. Get rid of the other programs no one watches.

A AND MARCY’S DESIRE TO WORK TOGETHER AGAIN
In a moment that brought joy to those in attendance, A and Marcy both expressed a sincere hope and desire that one day they can work together again. Martinez explained, “There’s more avenues to pursue now than there have ever been. I would say just keep a good thought for it. I’ve been holding it for decades, and I fully intend to do whatever I can to make it happen. We’re engaged in trying to make it happen. And you know, we’ll see. I know we both want to do it.” Marcy simply nodded and responded “Amen.”
Melissa Braverman shared with Michael Fairman TV, her sentiments on hosting the Santa Barbara favorites. “Seeing A and Marcy together again, even virtually, was an absolute gift. It instantly reminded all of us why we fell so hard for Cruz and Eden in the first place. Their undeniable chemistry leaped off the screen and straight back into our hearts, proving that the magic they created all those years ago hasn’t faded one bit. Sharing in equal parts laughter and tears felt like catching up with old friends. It just meant the world to see them side-by-side again and to see how this incredible fandom showed up for Marcy during such an important time for her.”

‘Days of Our Lives’ Officially Confirms Ryan Quan Returning as Co-Head Writer Beginning in July

There is definitely a shake-up going down at the writing team at Peacock’s Days of Our Lives. Now, the long-running soap opera has confirmed, what has been previously reported, that current General Hospital breakdown writer, Ryan Quan is heading back to his old stomping grounds in Salem. This time as the series co-head writer.
The appointment of Quan comes with the official news that current co-head writer, Paula Cwikly, who was previously rumored to be departing the series, is not. She is staying with the soap opera and transitioning to a consultant role with the show. Now, Quan will join current co-head writer, Jeanne Marie Ford to steer the ship for the characters on the canvas.
On Wednesday, TV Insider, reported the official confirmation and that Quan will return to DAYS next month in July. In a statement to the outlet, executive producer, Ken Corday expressed, ‘We are lucky to have Ryan back in the fold. THE FUTURE OF DAYS OF OUR LIVES
Since Days of our Lives unusual production schedule tapes ten-months ahead of air, the new creative team’s vision led by Quan and Jeanne Marie Ford are not expected to stream on Peacock until mid-2027.
Days of Our Lives is currently renewed through its 63rd season. The former NBC soap opera which transitioned to Peacock in September of 2022, celebrate its 60th anniversary in November of 2025.
The writing regime change comes after NBCUniversal Media Chairman Matt Strauss revealed that Peacock is expected to turn a profit for the first time in the current quarter, punctuating their investment with the enduring soap opera on its platform.
As for Quan, his knowledge of Salem is tremendous. Ryan joined Days of Our Lives as a writer’s assistant in 2007 after some time over at Passions. He then spent two decades and held every position on the writing team where he previously served as co-head writer from 2016-17 alongside Dena Higley.
Later, when Ron Carlivati took over as head writer for 7 years in 2017, Quan became his right-hand man and main story consultant for his deep knowledge of the history and the legacy of the show. After Carlivati exited the show in 2024, General Hospital hired Quan in 2025.
So, what do you think about DAYS making it official with Ryan Quan as the new co-head writer of the series alongside Jeanne Marie Ford. What do you think about the fact we won’t see the changes on-screen till 2027? Weigh-in via the comment section below.

ABC Announces ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Texas Spin-Off Gets Straight-to-Series Order

In a surprise move, coming a week after ABC unveiled its 2026-2027 fall television schedule, Grey’s Anatomy is getting a new spinoff co-created by the original series’ creator/executive producer Shonda Rhimes.
The new untitled medical drama will be written and executive produced by Rhimes and Grey’s Anatomy showrunner/executive producer Meg Marinis under the Shondaland and 20th Television umbrella. In addition, long-running ‘Grey’s’ star Ellen Pompeo will also serve as an EP of the spinoff.
The upcoming new series will debut midseason in 2027. This will be the first of Grey’s franchise not set in urban city or West Coast locale. According to Deadline, the new “edgy drama is about a team at a rural West Texas medical center — the last chance for care before miles of nowhere.”

Photo: ABC
In a statement, Marinis shared, “I am incredibly excited to expand the Grey’s Anatomy universe. This opportunity will bring new characters and stories to life that will embody the same heart, emotion and connection audiences have loved from Grey’s for more than two decades — all set in my home state of Texas. I am so grateful to Shonda Rhimes for creating this dynamic world and feel so fortunate that I get to be a part of it.”
A NEW GROUP OF DOCTORS IN RURAL TEXAS
The Texas spinoff will feature a a new group of doctors, but there will be some connection to the OG Grey’s Anatomy and possibly to Debbie Allen’s character of Catherine Fox. The amount of episodes in the series order has not yet been determined. Previous Grey’s Anatomy spinoffs were the defunct Station 19 and Private Practice.
Previously, Grey’s Anatomy was renewed for its upcoming 23rd season while the amount of episodes is unclear. The last two seasons the series produced 18 episodes.
It should also be noted, Grey’s Anatomy and the Texas spinoff would likely share a time period, which requires limited-run orders for both with Grey’s premiering in the fall, followed by the spinoff on the midseason programming block.
So, what do you think about a Texas spinoff of Grey’s Anatomy coming in 2027? Who would you like to see from daytime or primetime as some of the featured roles as new doctors? Put on your casting directors hat and let us know via the comment section below.
