CBS Daytime and Nielsen's In-Depth Y&R Survey On Characters, Stories, Romance! Take The Poll And Give Your Feedback!
Almost every daytime soap opera fan wants their voices to be heard and now through Nielsen, the company that brings you the ratings every week for your favorite television shows, and CBS comes this opportunity to weigh-in on the characters, romance, storylines, executives and more on the number one sudser, The Young and the Restless!
CBS Daytime executives have put together this in-depth survey that really asks and evaluates what is tracking with the fans and what is not.
Included in the survey are questions such as: Which character do you typically enjoy, but want to see in a different set of circumstances? How would you rate these stories? Rate the interest of the characters, romantic interests, rivalries and more.
Make sure to check it out and supply your answers, then let us know, how you answered some of the main questions: Rating the stories, characters, and more in the comment section below!
I was surprised at how thorough it was. Definitely worthwhile for fans of the show… I wonder how they will use the information. As I recall, focus-group information led Jill Farren Phelps to kill off Maureen Bauer on “Guiding Light” all those years ago. I hope I just didn’t sign someone’s death warrant…
Ditto…..took survey also, just hope that the higher ups…..read the findings…..
Best question answer…only tune in now out of loyalty.
most likely but you know what sonniorsolita..they aren’t dumb by any means. They tried to tank the show and instead gained viewers and now want to know why. My advice is either continue with the show or let it go. Get behind your #1 show CBS or just cancel it..stop with the silly surveys to set up your next disaster week…FOR REAL!!!
They gained viewers because All My Children was cancelled. DUH
ohhh geez..
We most likely will not be shown the results..
No, on anything Summer, Sharon Billy, Deven, Hillary, Phyllis, Lily and Dylan ..
that covers it for me ..
I loved taking the survey and expressing my thoughts, feelings,
and opinions on so many aspects of the soap. I wonder how they
will use everyone’s opinions!
hmmm
Well, that is the thing..
We took a survey and do not know why / who or what for ..
It was put up by Nielsen, ok so………..??
CBS.. but why?
Yeah, that is the big question for sure.
Why the survey and why now?
Does someone at the top wonder how
fans feel since Pratt came?
But glad they offered the survey, whatever the reason.
I put my 2 cents in about Summer and Sharon
and Kyle, ugh. And that I like Avery, etc.
Hoping somehow JC comes back.
I felt like I have been heard for the first time in a long time where Y&R is concerned. I hope this spells the end of JFP and Chuck Pratt Jr. We can wish!
All you can do is wish. Unless they leave voluntarily, the only thing that will spell the end of JFP and Mr. Pratt would be a complete viewer revolt and ratings collapse. And it looks like neither is happening anytime soon.
Would like this done for all soaps and be counted towards the ratings
I took the survey and hoping my answers will be the downfall of Summer. LOL
Lol, here’s hoping!!
It is only worthwhile if they truly read and comprehend what we are saying.
Its telling that this survey is even out there. There is concern of it wouldn’t be available.
I did it and I recommend it. It may or may not help but it feels as if you are voicing your opinion on a show you love and someone may just make the changes that all of us have been asking for! It is a very good survey. Well written.
I’m not a fan of Y&R, but I completed the survey…
I don’t know when this survey was written but I found it hilarious that some of the characters they asked about haven’t been on the show in so long I had almost forgotten they existed, like Jill and Colin. They asked about Gloria– can anyone remember when we last saw Gloria? The only character they didn’t mentioned was Esther — poor Esther, even the powers that be have forgotten you exist-LOL.
I remember when there was a contest to give Esther a last name. It’s Valentine, right? Now they fail to remember her first name! lol
Interesting survey that, unfortunately, does not allow for one taking it to embellish on reasons why selections were made. I would have liked choices for each of my responses. I know that is time-consuming BUT that would be far more valuable data. As someone else mentioned, WHAT is the purpose of the survey and the results it yields? Perhaps presenting that information upfront would help with more genuine responses. I was glad I was able to at least respond in my own words about Y and R: and there I chimed in as I always have– this Y and R is NOT the Bill Bell/Kay Alden brilliant storytelling and character development it was for over 30 years. It will be interesting to see– what, if anything– comes of this. The survey did not say what would be done with results and if those would be publicly available. Does anyone know?
Your writing staff is a little far out. Hope you at least give Victor his
just deserve.
I think Victor will always come out on top!
wish their was a question on ” who would you like to return to the show” : nina, colleen and j.t, tyler, leslie, jill !!!
I have been a loyal viewer of the Y&R for more than 30 yrs. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to express my deep disappointment in the producers who fired Michael Muhney to benefit other members of the cast. Michael Muhney < I must say is a very talented and
very charismatic actor and a lot of us believe a true gentleman. Despite all this he was unfairly dismissed and a great number of fans supported him and wanted him back. The fans were not heard and their voices were not even considered. Instead , they chose not to listen and hired another actor. This resulted in fans bitterly resenting the show and some of the fellow actors and abandoning the show altogether, I am one of them and I will NEVER watch this show because I have lost all respect for the producers and their lack of compassion for a family man ( and believe it, this plays in his favour) and now, we his fans, follow everyone of his moves. You have only succeeded in making him very popular. His fans adore him and any show he decides to go to, we follow, and we will make the show very popular. And this is how much WE LOVE MICHAEL MUHNEY,{t is truly the Y&R LOSS, because MICHAEL MUHNEY MADE THE SHOW.
I can’t find the survey. Is it over already?
Hi Liz,
It’s still available. Just checked.
CBS.com/daytime. Did you click
on the link MF provided up top
here?
Anyway, maybe you got to it by now,
and had a chance to participate.
I was glad to give my feedback on this trainwreck!
Y&R lost me when they lost Michael Muhney. Unjustified witch hunts aren’t my thing! Sorry Y&R!
First, loved the survey! It was fun to take. Second, WHY NOW? In the money-hungry, ratings obsessed Network world, Y&R is killing it in the ratings right now. Ratings = Money. I think the negativity will only grow on Social Media, but stats show people ARE happy with and watching the show, in growing numbers. People love to hate Pratt and JFP, but at least ratings-wise, they are working. You can never convince me the Network caress about the viewers opinions. OK–let’s say the fire Pratt, drop unpopular characters or stories, the fans are THRILLED and scream that “Y&R is finally BACK!” But now the ratings fall. Maybe to series low, like General Hospital low. How long do you think CBS will do fans right and continue to produce an expensive, low-rated show? Be careful what you wish for.
CBS- I have such a great idea for you! Why don’t you market- tie in with companies on some of the beautiful clothes and jewelry your actresses where? What a great way to please your viewers and make money for the show!
Do we know when the results will be posted and where? Then if or how they will they address some of them with out giving away the s/l’s?
It does seem the ratings are very good for the Young and the Restless even though so many are dismayed with the recent outrageous storylines. I wonder if ratings take into account how much of the show is fast forwarded. So much of the writing has been atrocious and difficult to watch if watched. Potential meaningful storylines were passed by; Michael and cancer, Kelly and perhaps family abuse. I record and watch before retiring. Then the uncomfortable or silly plots can be skipped which, indeed, I do. All this being said there is always the hope that one will find an improvement in a long watched program.
just for once let victor get cought & punished just for the story line to seem more real
I really have to believe that the viewers who “love” the show as it stands are fairly new viewers to Y&R, perhaps viewers looking for a new soap who used to watch AMC, ATWT, GL and OLTL. I say this because most of the viewers who state they have watched Y&R for a long time on social media and on soap sites by and large find the writing atrocious. Newbies with no substance are rammed down our throats (looking at you Sage), popular vets like Sharon continue to be butchered, the lead story for the past year featured a bunch of air-headed Scooby kids (looking at you Summer) and the writing is just non-sensical. So if JFP and CP’s intention was to write to draw in younger viewers, perhaps that has worked. Who else but younger viewers can take watching do-nothings like Summer, Kyle and Abby eat the show? I may be wrong, but it seems to me most long-time viewers are NOT happy with the writing because Pratt is killing the essence of what made Y&R #1 in the first place. Victor never paying any real consequences for his CRIMES is not helping as it’s so repetitive. Where’s the suspense or element of surprise in “Victor Wins Again” and Sharon is brow-beaten and vilified for the hundredth time?
You think that the writers of the young and the restless would come up with some new and original story lines. Victor always wins and comes out ahead of everyone. This is old and boring. Change it up already. The show is tacky redundant and tasteless.
What is the answers to the result? How come we don’t see it any where? Guess a lot of fans shared the same opinions who they hated and loved on YR. Sage is a waste of time, she’s a FOJ. Again Sharon is victimized and used to prop up lackluster characters like Sage and Dylan. Nick dumb down like he believed Sage his true love the man married her only because she was pregnant. Victor always win and get away with every dirt he played on Jack and the Abbotts. Dylan is a fake cop or investigator and a dummy who doesn’t check up on Sharon. Nick should be in therapy with Sharon not Sage. Adam’s court case should have reveal Sage is the hit and run driver. Phyllis is a shade of her old self. Faith is dumb down for Sage which is seriously a rewrite and terrible. Both Jill F. Phelps and Chuck Pratt’s days will soon come to an end like Maria A. Bell’s days ended.
y&R great! Watched over thirty years great plots/life!

‘General Hospital’s’ Steve Burton Shares Reaction to His Lead Actor Daytime Emmy Nomination, ‘It Was to Honor Leslie Charleson’

The 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Award nominations kicked-off on Monday with the announcements of four major categories including, Outstanding Lead Performer in a Daytime Drama Series — Actor, and among the nominees is General Hospital’s Steve Burton (Jason Morgan).
Burton is already a two-time Daytime Emmy winner in the Supporting Actor category for his roles as GH’s Jason and his turn as Dylan McAvoy on Y&R. However, Steve is yet to win in the Lead Actor category and he has received 11 nominations along the way in his daytime career.
Following the reveal that he is a 2026 Daytime Emmy nominee, he and his GH co-star, podcast co-host and comedy show partner, Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) taped a special edition of their That’s Awesome podcast just featuring Burton’s reaction to the news.

FOR LESLIE CHARLESON
Steve expressed, “I know it’s such a cliche to say, ‘I’m just so honored to be nominated.’ But truly, I’m so grateful to be nominated, so grateful to just be on the show off and on for 30 plus years and to be nominated with the guys in my category. Just to get the opportunity. Frank (Valentini, executive producer, GH) texted me right away. I was just like, ‘Thank you for the opportunity to get to do what I do.'”
Taking in the moment, Burton thanked those who helped him select the material for his nominated reel. “Unless you win, you don’t get to say things. So. I’m going just say a few things: Elizabeth Korte (co-head writer, GH) helped me a lot with the material, (as did) Michelle Henry, who’s a producer on the show, Laura Wright (Carly, GH), and then my wife Michelle (Lundstrom). I believe it was Jill Phelps who told me that when A Martinez felt like he had a great show or great scenes, he would mark it down. So, when Emmy time comes, you have all the show numbers written down, and you don’t have to think about it, because that’s half the battle (finding the material).
Burton explained how meaningful this nomination is for him, because of playing the scenes of Jason losing Monica, and his closeness with the late, great Leslie Charleson.
“The nomination’s an amazing thing, and it’s beautiful, but really it’s to honor Leslie Charleson. A lot of my material was because of her, and how I started on the show as a Quartermaine, it just means a ton,” shared Burton. “Maurice Benard (Sonny, GH) has obviously has been instrumental, and I’ve said it from day one and I’ll shout it from the rooftops. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be here, and to be working with the people that we work with is incredible.”

SHOULD JOHN OLIVER BE NAMED HOST OF THE DAYTIME EMMYS?
During the end of his conversation with Anderson, Steve suggested that the host of the Daytime Emmy should be Last Week Tonight’s John Oliver, who recently guest starred as the head of the WSB named Z on General Hospital, and is soon to show up on Days of Our Lives in a mystery role in August.
Thus far, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has not revealed their host for the upcoming ceremony to be held on October 30 in a venue to be named in Hollywood, California.
You can watch Steve sharing his reaction to receiving his 2026 Lead Actor Daytime Emmy nomination below on a special segment on the That’s Awesome podcast.
Now let us know, are you glad that Steve chose scenes surrounding Jason mourning the loss of the woman that raised him, Monica Quartermaine for his Emmy reel? What do you think of John Oliver as a suggestion to host the Daytime Emmys? Weigh-in via the comment section below.
