Chad Duell, ‘General Hospital’s’ Exited Michael Corinthos, to Star in World Premiere of New Stage Play
When Chad Duell made the decision to exit his Daytime Emmy-winning role of General Hospital’s Michael Corinthos late last year, he noted he was interested in spreading his wings and taking on some new projects.
Well, now comes word that Duell will co-lead the cast of the world premiere of a brand new stage play Yum Yum at Annapolis, along with actor, Zach Mendez (pictured below). The play is written and will be directed by Bruce Reisman.
In the story, inspired by the real life friendship in 1939 between American playwright and icon Eugene O’Neill (Mendez) and a young sailor, (“Eddie” played by Duell), who is hired as a handy man to rebuild the front porch where O’Neill wrote Long Day’s Journey Into Night. The show is 90 minutes with no intermission, and it just features Duell and Mendez. The production notes that this will be an “Acting Olympics” for the two actors.

According to the Instagram post announcing the play, Stoneypoint Entertainment, shared that rehearsals begin with a table read next week, then the public, full-tech and costumed, invited audience concert reading will be held April in Los Angeles at the legendary El Portal Theatre in North Hollywood.
There are also big plans for Yum Yum at Annapolis to hit the Big Apple, where an Off-Off Broadway run is planned for late fall. In the meantime, you can check the El Portal Theatre’s website for more information on the play as it become available.
Previously, Duell had the left the door open for a General Hospital return. Currently, the character of Michael is recovering from third degree burns in a clinic in Germany. When speaking with Steve Burton (Jason, GH) and Bradford Anderson (Spinelli, GH) on their Daily Drama podcast, Chad shared, “We’ll see what happens in the future, but right now, I’m just trying to grow in ways that maybe I stifled myself. Sometimes you have to take drastic steps or make yourself feel uncomfortable to take a step and that’s kind of what I have not allowed myself to do.”
Speaking of challenges, as for any actors, carrying a two-person stage play is not only about acting prowess and performance, but endurance for a 90-minute show with no intermission. We are sure Chad will be more than up for the task!
So, what do you think of Chad’s role in the new play ‘Yum Yum at Annapolis?’ Are you hoping he will return sooner than later to GH as Michael Corinthos? Comment below.

Break A Leg Chad! But I hope you come back to GH soon. We miss you
Yes, yes yes…….enjoy, do well and return as Michael . You have major drama to deal with…
Blessings Chad
he is missed
Well, good for Chad but can we please recast Michael? Chad was the third or fourth?) Michael and he’s not that special. Recast him so we can propel his story onward.
CHAD WAS PHENOMENAL AS MICHAE, PEOPLE ARE SO RUDE!
Help me Rhonda. Help me make you understand that it’s okay to express an opinion about a character and without you typing in all caps that I’m rude. The truth is Michael is a necessary character played by an expendable, albeit decent, actor. Most soap actors are expendable with very few exceptions.
No need to recast him now Harry. Supposedly Michael suffered very bad burns; it would be ridiculous for him to return so soon. I’d like to see the story play out between Drew and Willow; see if Willow actually moves in, have Willow find out about Drew’s duplicity and his sleeping with Nina, see Sasha deal with Jason and the Qs without Michael there, etc. Lots of story to be had before Michael’s return, when it be Chad or a recast.
People are entitled to have a different opinion than you.
Enjoy your new show. But please come back to General Hospital. You are so missed!
Yeah. Maybe whomever it was who cast the failed 40 year old Molly last year can cast a 60 year old fake Mikey.
Fact is that Michael – as a Spencer, Quartermaine, and Corinthos with a Scorpio baby on the way is the very definition of a much needed character.
So either they get Chad back on soon, or be very careful about a proper recast.
True. They’d have to be very careful with whom they recast. I actually thought Drew Garrett’s Michael Quartermaine was spot on as the troubled son of AJ and Carly raised by his surrogate father, Jason with Step Father Kingpin Sonny stepping in. He had that necessary tones of darkness interplaying with lightness. Chad’s good but was always a bit too fluffy for my taste. The character is necessary but the actor is expendable so if he can’t come back soon, they need to conduct a masterful recast.
There is no need to bring back Michael now. I’m not sure how so many of you don’t see that the absence of Michael is propelling story. Drew and Willow, Sasha and Jason, Sasha’s rebellion against Quartermaine interference. Michael isn’t needed right now. Who they SHOULD bring back in Nikolas! It’s absolutely ridiulous how they systematically got rid of all Cassadines but for Alexis. It’s also ridiculous that Laura never mentions him nor does Lucky or Lulu, or that Laura and the invisible Kevin felt a need to adopt Ace. Bring back Nikolas, give him back his son, and let’s see some interaction between the siblings.
Who are you ?? Have you even seen Chad play Michael. You can’t possibly be a GH fan because you don’t know what you’re talking about. He was very special. He was a great Michael and his real fans, real GH fans miss him.
Do calm down. You sound ridiculous. Chad is a solid actor but he’s not brilliant. And right now he’s got his mother fighting his battles for him and his character has an active storyline brewing. Does Chad own this role the way Tony Geary owns Luke or the way Maurice Bernard owns Sonny or the way Finola Hughes owns Anna? No.Sorry, Chad is replaceable as long as casting gets it right.
I agree partly Harry they should replace the role. The last replacement was good..however l loved Chad simply because he was great as Michael.he ultimately made the role..for that he deserves the credit..l wish him luck in everything but would live to see him back..Can work with the last recast of Michael nicely..
Lies !!!! Chad is SUER SPECIAL , and We all want him back !!! BUT, Break a leg and Do Fabulous in your new job, and then come back as Michael !!!
Is he though? He has never striked me as leading man material. He is kind of cartoonish in looks and that Mel Blanc voice of his. He should be recast as Michael’s story is active and front burner. Just get it right this time.
Please, please do not bring Robert Adamson in as the Michael recast. He looks nothing like Chad Duel !!! Would love to see Darin Brooks as the Michael recast !!!
Ironically, Darin Brooks would look more like a biological son of Sonny.
I actually would like to see him back on Days as Max Brady.
How about Brooks as Dillon Q?
Why does the actor have to look like the actor they’re replacing? Cynthia Watros looks nothing like Michelle Stafford and she took on the Nina Reeves role. I can’t imagine Michelle Stafford as Nina now; Cynthia has taken over the role. I think Robert Adamson will do fine.
No Robert is not a fit
Robert Adamson was great as Michael, & handsome too…I wish they would bring him back if Chad doesn’t return.
Chad please come back to General Hospital. It’s not the same without you.
I hope Chad Duell comes back to GH very soon. He doesn’t have to look like Sonny because he is not Sonny’s biological son. I do wish GH would get a little more exciting with some hot relationships without them being same sex couples. I also cannot stand Natasha on her own, and she doesn’t belong with Sonny. There is no chemistry between them. Carly does not belong with Jack Brennan either. Willow nd Drew make a terrible couple. Drew is playing Willow with mind control. I wish Willow would find out about him and her mother. They actually are a better couple because Nina is jyst as slimy as Drew! How about more Maxie and Spinelli? Or put Carly back with Jason.
Please!! No one can replace you!!! Enjoy a new journey but we need you onGH
Chad is no Maurice Benard or Tony Geary. He is totally replaceable.
Proud of Michael and still want him back on GH ! He’s a major part of the show and the Drew line is horrible and Willow doesn’t make it w/out you Michael !!! Please come back soon after this acting
Sooner
Yes
I love you “CD” have been a fan of yours since day one. Always felt there was something special about you and you are one darn good Actor too. Your range was surreal and no did expressions quite like you.
Congratulations but secretly hoping you come back and #GH do the right thing and put you in the Lead as you should have been and get uorh family back.
Find Drew someone else and someone else fast. Gh build some of thr best files on Soaps and out of no where crumbling still not believable and so not working.
I want Chad to come back as Michael.
Chad will be missed and wishing him GOOD LUCK, I’m sure Chad will be great. I’m hoping you will return to GH as Michael in the future. ❤️
Chad’s soap experience should serve him well in a 90 minute play with no breaks. Soaps are all dialogue and hitting marks so he will do fine. Congrats on expanding his repertoire.
I’ve watched GH every since it’s been on … and I will be 82 in July!!! W ent to college watching it, and had to plan my classes around time it was on. No way to record and watch later. .
If he wants to do different things, then good for him. Yes your fans love you & wish You the best in your future endeavors. You at times get in a rut and want to venture out. I like you, for 25 yrs I was in the restaurant business, took a 2 yr break & now for the past 13yrs, have been in the flower business.
That’s excellent news for Chad Duell. Congratulations.
Recast Mike on gh now
Mike? Mike is dead.
K, mike is Michael for short like you didn’t know that. Haha
I am happy for the opportunity for Duall!! Continued Success!! But I do miss him on GH!!!
I hope it goes well, we still hope you come back to GH!
Chad is a awesome actor if he can spend his wings I say go for it he will definitely be missed but I do hope he will come home to G/H
Good luck Chad and you will be missed on GH ❤️

RATINGS: ‘The Young and the Restless,’ ‘The Bold and the Beautiful’ Remain No #1 and # 2, ‘General Hospital’ Only Soap to Lose Viewers
The latest Nielsen ratings data is out for the week of April 27-May 1, and three out of the four network daytime dramas posted gains in total viewers, while one showed a loss in audience numbers, which may come as a surprise.
Let’s take a look at the ratings period with data from Soap Opera Network and then provide some context. The Young and the Restless remained as per usual in the top spot coming in at 3,14,000 on average total viewers slightly up +20,000 more eyeballs for the week.
In story, Y&R served up Matt’s plot to blow up the Newmans inside the abandoned gas station on the outskirts of Vegas, Sienna believing she killed Matt, only for him to be revealed alive with a severe contusion on his head by week’s end, Nick going on a bad drug trip thanks to the fentanyl laced with something else via Matt, and Cane and the Winters family learning that he is a donor match to save Malcolm’s life, while Sally got engaged to Billy.

FASHION HOUSE PROBLEMS
Y&R’s sister soap, The Bold and the Beautiful clocked in with 2,795,000 viewers for the week up +38,000 from the previous ratings period. In story, The Bold and the Beautiful gave viewers; the fallout from Katie’s successful fashion show for her new fashion house, Logan. Dylan continuing to be freaked out. This time when doing her work at Forrester Creations, out from the clothing rack comes somebody that scares her enough to have her let out a blood-curdling scream. In addition, Liam suggested to Hope that she consider coming to work for Logan where she will be appreciated, after Steffy tells her that ‘Hope for the Future’ is back-burnered for now.
General Hospital, which many have considered being the most entertaining on a consistent basis with their storylines, most likely lost some viewers for the week because on Monday April 27, the show was preempted for a special report on the attempted shooting at the White House Correspondence dinner. If viewers did not catch it on Hulu, it aired on the network after Nightline on Tuesday at 1am. In total, GH was the only soap to lose viewers for the ratings week. GH tallied -1,809,000 which is down from the previous week by -168,000.

PAYBACK AND A SHOCKING REVEAL
In story that week, Carly’s double life with Brennan and Valentin caught up with her, Michael initiated a strategic plot against Willow, and Josslyn found herself in immediate danger after a run-in with Cassius.
Beyond the Gates, while having two days of the week fully preempted for UEFA Champions League soccer games, actually increased its viewership. BTG tallied 1,655,00 total viewers which also boasted the highest audience gains across any soap adding +42,000. In story, the soap opera spotlighted: Ashley stealing antibiotics to keep Grayson alive, Smitty zeroing in on a possible suspect in the plasma ring, Vernon taking over Martin’s debt to Joey Armstrong, while Kate recognized a name tied to Lynette’s finances.
It should also be noted for the ratings week; The Bold and the Beautiful once again topped Y&R for the top spot in the key Womens 18-49 demo and in the Womens 25-54 demo, Beyond the Gates once again bested General Hospital for the 3rd spot.
So, let us know your thoughts on the current ratings picture? Then weigh-in; what soap opera is serving up the best drama right now that is keeping you engaged to catch it every day? Which soap has you the least interested? Drop a comment below.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Would You Be Down With a Dante and Elizabeth Romance?
On the Friday, May 15 episode of General Hospital, Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst) and Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) shared a heartfelt talk on trauma. Dante is so concerned for Rocco (Finn Carr), and how it affects someone for the rest of their life, which is something Elizabeth knows all too well, but got through it.
It all begins when Elizabeth shows up at Dante’s office ready for her date with Ric Lansing (Rick Hearst). How beautiful she looked did not go unnoticed by Dante. When the talked turned to how Dante told Rocco that he knew his son shot Cullum (Andrew Hawkes), he admits he is scared for his child, because he lost his innocence with the emotional baggage he now must carry forever of shooting someone.
Dante notices how Rocco is becoming more and more withdrawn and he wants to know how to help him. Elizabeth bring up how she can absolutely relate to trauma at a young age, just like Rocco. However for Elizabeth, her trauma came in the form of a brutal rape by Tom Baker. Speaking from experience, Elizabeth details that it was her friends and family like Lucky and Bobbie who helped pull her through. She encourages Dante to continue to show up and be there as support for his son.

SPECIAL DELIVERY
Next, an officer delivers to Dante the evidence from the pier shooting, which Dante plans on destroying. Before she leaves for her date with Ric, Liz reassured Dante he is doing the right thing to protect Rocco and she has done the same. She has left no record of Rocco’s hospital visit the night of the shooting. Liz leaves for her date.
THE WRONG SUSPECT
Then, Cullum storm troops in to Dante’s office demanding the evidence that the PCPD must have collected at the site of his shooting. Dante says that the evidence must be misfiled in the warehouse, but they will find it. However, Cullum realizes Dante is stalling and lying. Before heading to Dante’s office, Cullum paid a visit to Carly (Laura Wright) and saw a photo of Danny with Jason, triggering him to now believe that Danny may have been the person who shot him in the back on the pier!

DINING WITH RIC
At dinner at Café Cherie, Ric handed Elizabeth the folder with the priceless piece of artwork he’d purchased for her through Ava. Elizabeth loved it and went over to Ric and planted a kiss on him.
Will GH move Elizabeth into a romance with Dante? Do you think Liz and Dante make a cute couple? After today’s episode, it’s clear they very much like and admire one another. If so, what happens to Liz and Ric’s burgeoning repeat romance? Share your thoughts and picks via the comment section below.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Dante Tells Rocco He Knows He Shot Cullum and Will Protect Son
In well-played scenes on the Thursday, May 14 episode of General Hospital, Dante (Dominic Zampogna) finally had a talk with his son, Rocco (Finn Carr) informing him that he knows the teen shot Cullum (Andrew Hawkes).
Rocco has dreaded his father finding out, because he is the acting police commissioner of the Port Charles PD and feared his dad will have to arrest him for the crime.
Dante asks Rocco in his own words to recount what happened the night on the pier. He assured his son, he is not going to arrest him and noted there are very extenuating circumstances surrounding the crime.

FATHER AND SON
Rocco explained how he followed Britt (Kelly Thiebaud) to the pier. Then, how Cullum attacked Britt. Jason (Steve Burton) showed up and fought with Cullum and how the gun came loose. He remembers the other weapon Cullum pulled out to kill Jason and that’s when he shot him.
Next, Dante explained that he was proud of his son for saving Jason and Britt’s lives. He also tells Rocco that he is very concerned in Britt’s involvement in all of this stemming all the way back to the Five Poppies, and feels she is still tied into everything that is happening.
Dante tells Rocco that nobody else can know about this involvement in the shooting. He also touchingly said, that he is his father, he will protect him. However, Rocco is worried that if the truth came out that he shot Cullum, his dad would be in serious trouble for covering up a crime. Dante tells Rocco, he should not worry about that right now, but he needs to stay in Port Charles so he and his mom can keep him safe.
A SHOCKING CALL
Suddenly, as father and son hug it out, Dante gets a call from Justine (Nazneen Contractor), alerting him to the fact that she just met with Cullum and he is looking for the evidence and the file from his shooting. Dante rolls his eyes, knowing things are about to go from bad to worse, and how is he going to keep his son safe from the evil WSB Director?
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
Dominic Zamprogna always delivers a nice counterbalance to the often histrionics of other characters in Port Charles in his portrayal of Dante Falconeri. So that, when Dante breaks or gets emotional, it counts. Finn Carr has continually shined in the storyline as Rocco continues to teeter on the edge of knowing what he has done and being wracked with guilt. Next up has to be Danny learning his brother is the reason Jason was carted away. Stay tuned!
So, what did you think of the scenes between Dante and Rocco? How on earth will Dante keep Rocco safe? Share your thoughts via the comment section.
