Last May, On-Air On-Soaps reported to you the very sad news of the passing of one of soaps greatest villains and character actors, Matthew Cowles at age 69.  The talented actor played Billy Clyde Tuggle on All My Children both on the ABC version, and later returned last year to reprise the role on the Prospect Park online reboot of the series.

Cowles longtime wife, The Good Wife’s Christine Baranski had yet to make any public statement on his death until now.  Christine is co-starring in the expected Christmas blockbuster Into The Woods where she plays Cinderella’s stepmother in the film adaption of the Stephen Sondheim musical.

At the movie premiere this week, Baranski told Variety:  “It’s been a tough year.  I lost extraordinary people in my life, but I have a beautiful grandson, my wonderful ‘Good Wife’ colleagues and the beautiful people associated with the film here tonight.”

Glad to finally hear from Christine and her thoughts on the late Matthew Cowles? Will you check out Into The Woods?  Comment below!

My thoughts and prayers go out to Christine Baranski and her family on this tough loss. She is a brilliant actress and singer that I have enjoyed ever seeing her on Cybill.

I didn’t read any “thoughts” here on her husband. Did I miss something???

Thank you, nor did I. She spoke in general terms.
Maybe it’s too tender and it’s too personal for her to speak of. I have to respect that about her. I remember reading years ago that she said her husband Malcolm was one of the best and most underrated actors of our time. I agreed then, and I agree now.
I always loved her–and Malcolm Cowley as Billy Clyde Tuggell was pure genius. My favorite soap opera villain of all time.

I was thinking the same thing. She didn’t even mention him at all.

If this was “breaking her silence,” she STILL must not have anything to say.

I think what she must be feeling is too much to put into words. Of course she has a lot to say but would rather talk about publicly. Good for her.

Harry…my post was in reference to Michael’s question:” Glad to finally hear from Christine and her thoughts on the late Matthew Cowles?” and his statement in his heading about her “breaking her silence. That’s what Cindy and SZima are referring to as well. But yes, you’re probably right…she didn’t share thoughts and she didn’t really break her silence on his passing because perhaps she’d rather keep them private.

I feel so sorry for her. But she said as close to nothing as possible.

I love Christine, she is very classy. They seem to be a very private family which is certainly OK.

I agree, they clearly had a long, happy and successful marriage, everyone handles grief differently, and in my personal experience in dealing with grief, many people don’t respect the individual’s grieving process very much and many times add to it by being unkind and putting expectations on what is a personal and private experience. Christine acknowledged it, and no one should expect more.

I loved him as Billy Clyde, he always mad me laugh and mad at the same time, lol. I had no idea he was married to Christine! She is another actor I have always loved and so versatile. What a wonderful life they must have had together. Good he has her work to keep her busy, but my thoughts are with her and may Matthew RIP. I know he is looking after her still!

All My Children and Guiding Light Vet, Gil Rogers Passes Away

Gil Rogers, who played one of the all-time most dastardly villains in soaps on All My Children and was the on-screen father to the one and only Reva Shayne (Kim Zimmer) on Guiding Light, has died at age 87.

News came via his daughter, Amanda Rogers on her Facebook page, relating that Gil passed away on March 2nd.

The actor had played Tad (Michael E. Knight) and Jenny’s (Kim Delaney) father, Ray Gardner on All My Children from 1977-1978 making multiple appearance though 2001, then later as Hawk Shayne on Guiding Light from 1985-1992 making multiple appearance through 2009.

Gil also appeared on Another World, Search for Tomorrow and The Doctors.

In her post, Amanda wrote: “Gil Rogers died this morning. As you all know, my dad was awesome. He was my best friend, confidant, mentor and just an awesome dad. He came to pick me and  Charlotte Whitaker Zdanowski up at clubs at 2AM in our teens to keep us safe, and drank bourbon with me every day since moving out here 2 years ago. He was welcoming and kind, funny and gregarious, a shameless flirt and a fierce protector. He loved his dinners with grandkids and endured animated movies and discussions about pokemon. And I miss him so terribly already. He died in his sleep, without pain or fear. I am so grateful to have had such a great father and to have spent these past 2 years with him every day.”

Check out this vintage scene below from All My Children where Ray played by Rogers blows up the Martin house.

Now share your remembrances of Gil’s performances and along with condolences for his family in the comment section.

Kim Delaney on All My Children Primetime Reboot: “All They Have To Do Is Ask, and I’m There”

While Kim Delaney is currently appearing on General Hospital in the role of Jackie Templeton, and she just appeared in her new Lifetime movie, The Long Island Serial Killer: A Mother’s Hunt of Justice, the actress revealed she would be up for appearing in the upcoming primetime revival in development of All My Children.

Delaney became soap-famous in the role of AMC’s Jenny Gardner from 1981-1984 before she was killed-off the show in the now iconic jet ski explosion.

Now even though Jenny died, Kim would be up for figuring out how the character could be resurrected or how she could take part in the primetime reboot of the ABC soap opera called, Pine Valley.

In an interview with Soaps.com, Kim shared on being part of the reboot: “All they have to do is ask, and I’m there.  Sure, Jenny died, but someone asked me the other day if we ever saw her body. So maybe she’s out there, somewhere… ”

Former All My Children stars and real-life duo, Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos are executive producers of Pine Valley along with Andrew Stearn.

So, would you like to see an alive and well Jenny Gardner, or some other role for Delaney, in the All My Children reboot? Comment below.
