Clink Boom! The Lilly Melgar Interview: Could Lily Rivera Be Alive On GH? And The Bay's Janice Hops In Bed With Young Peter!

Our headline says it all, “Clink Boom!” This past week on General Hospital, the series brought up Sonny’s (Maurice Benard) connection to the Rivera family, after it was revealed that Julian Jerome’s (William deVry) henchmen, Carlos Rivera (Jeffrey Vincent Parise) is from Puerto Rico. That left Sonny questioning that he could indeed be related to his late wife Lily Rivera (Lilly Melgar), who blew up into smithereens years ago. That event set the course for all the next wives and women in Sonny’s life. Something cataclysmic always seemed to happen, or was about to happen, when Sonny was set to marry the woman he loves!
On-Air On-Soaps attended the screening of the new season of The Bay this past week and got a first glimpse of the four installments! So far, fans this past week were able to see the first two episodes released online. Lilly Melgar is back on The Bay as troubled Janice Ramos, the bitter enemy of Sara Garrett (Mary Beth Evans)! And in the first few installments, Janice has slept with the much younger Peter Garrett (Kristos Andrews), which left many in the attendance at the screening with their jaws dropped!
We caught up with Lilly Melgar afterwards at the viewing party to discuss all the “hot bed” issues surrounding her in the soap world right now! Chief among them, is she coming back to General Hospital as Lily Rivera? Has she seen what has gone down recently on the ABC soap opera? And, how did she feel about her character on The Bay sleeping with a young hottie? Lilly reveals her thoughts in this candid interview below!
General Hospital has been on fire lately, and they brought in the character of Carlos Rivera (Jeffrey Vincent Parise) who, as has been discussed, obviously could be related to Sonny’s deceased ex-wife Lily!

LILLY: So I hear! For the past four months there is a huge rumor all over Twitter that I am coming back! I mean, it just goes, and goes, and goes, and God love the fans. They are writing the storyline! I mean to the point where I am asking myself, “Am I coming back?” (Laughs) I have not received a phone call from GH, but man, are these fans convinced that I am coming back. Now, with this new character of Carlos Rivera, it just took it to the next level.
So last week on GH, Sonny (Maurice Benard) finds out the last name of the henchmen of Julian Jerome’s is “Carlos Rivera”. Sonny says, “Carlos Rivera from Puerto Rico. I knew a Rivera family…” However, Shawn Butler (Sean Blakemore) checks out if Carlos is from the same Rivera clan for Sonny! And on Friday’s episode, Shawn tells Sonny, Carlos is not related to his ex-wife’s Rivera family. Hmmm.
LILLY: Yes, I know. I had one of the GH actors who I worked with back then, who I won’t say who, because I don’t want to get them in any trouble, say to me, “Lilly, get ready! I am thinking maybe it might happen. They brought this up on today’s show!”
They are so good at GH under executive producer Frank Valentini and head writer Ron Carlivati, of bringing back characters from the past, or who previously were believed to be dead! (Laughs) Now it could be that Carlos will still turn out to be related to Lily, and maybe she is alive! Can you imagine?

Courtesy/ABC
LILLY: Oh, my God! Would that not be the biggest shocker? You know they brought me back once before, and she was a prostitute who got plastic surgery to look like Lily. It could have been an interesting storyline, but unfortunately it didn’t go anywhere! To really bring back Lily, whoa! What would that mean for the character of Sonny? Her death has molded the character of Sonny Corinthos through what he has experienced to this day! For that not to be true … the impact of that on the character of Sonny would be tumultuous!
And you could come back and have a relative in Carlos Rivera played by Jeffrey Vincent Parise! Have you seen him in the role?
LILLY: I have not seen him on the air shows, but I hear he is a great actor, and I am all about working with great actors!
Lilly, I just watched you as The Bay’s Janice, have sex on-screen with the much younger Peter Garrett played by Kristos Andrews! What happened when they said to you that Janice is going to hop into bed with this young dude?

Courtesy/LANYFilms
LILLY: I experienced a lot of resistance, I am not going to lie, and I will tell you why! Only because we have really established Janice’s love for her daughter Lianna (Jade Harlow), and that has been such an important aspect of Janice’s character, that it was challenging for me being a mom myself in real life! But you know what, it happens! It is loosely based on a true story, which at some point Gregori Martin (creator, The Bay) will talk about. So once we had that conversation, then I was more comfortable with it. As an actor, we are always seeking challenges to that degree. It gives me more layers to work through because I have my love for my daughter, my loyalty to my daughter, and now this happens!
When she ends up in bed with Peter, does Janice just think he’s hot, so why not do the deed? Or, is there something else going on behind it, such as her incredible disdain for Peter’s mother, Sara Garrett played by Mary Beth Evans?
LILLY: You have to understand, Janice for as long as she can remember has been in love with Lee (Paul Satterfield). Now Lee is dead. She is having an identity crisis of: who am I without that? That is all she has known is that love for this man, who was the father of her daughter, and then her daughter found out the truth that it was in fact her real father. Janice had to deal with so much! Can you blame her for wanting to escape? She is turning the bottle as we saw last season. We know she had one drunken night and possibly made the biggest mistake of her life … or … a new door has been opened!

Or… a new door has been opened and she is going to fall in love with babe in the woods, Peter? Tell me no! (Laughs)
LILLY: (Laughs) You don’t know, and this does happen. Janice is so lost not knowing who she is, what to believe in, and now she is getting all this attention from this young hot guy. She is insecure, and she is in a very vulnerable and fragile place. You put alcohol in the mix … and anything can happen.
So, when they said, “OK, now we are going to film the sex scene,” were you able to get out of your head enough to just go for it?
LILLY: Some things you just don’t ask, Michael! (Laughs) I am just saying! (Laughs) It was very challenging.
Your Internet radio series co-hosted with Martha Madison (The Bay, Days of our Lives), Soap Box, has really taken off! Why has it worked so well with you and Martha as co-hosts?
LILLY: First of all, we want to have you on the show in January when Martha is back from having her beautiful baby girl and being a new mom! We are total sisters now. We met on The Bay, but then Jim Romanovich (Executive, ATI) hired us to do these hosted segment on Planet 360, and that is where our chemistry really revealed itself in that way. Then they offered me this show on TRadioV and I didn’t want to do it alone. I thought, who better than another Leo, but who is the exact opposite of me! However, we are both just as outspoken! We are both just a feisty, and we have become bff’s ever since! And Michelle Stafford will hate me for saying we’re bff’s! (Laughs) She hates that term!

Courtesy/IMDB
Speaking of Stafford, what do you think of her web series, The Stafford Project?
LILLY: I love The Stafford Project! I promote it all the time. I loved the last episode because Michelle was the voice of so many women. That was brilliant.
One of your side projects is that you create and direct video content for some of the biggest music acts in the world for their tours! How did that come about … and what exactly do you do?
LILLY: I direct video content for major concert tours … like this year I worked on the Jennifer Lopez and M. J. Cirque shows. My biggest one was the Britney Spears “Femme Fatale Tour” which was actual mini-short films that were seen throughout the concert that I shot with none other than Rudolph Martin (Ex-Anton) from All My Children! He was the villain that I cast in these and he was amazing! So it’s these short films that play throughout the concert. You follow an actual storyline. Then, my directorial debut was in the Spice Girls Reunion Tour, but with and around that, I direct video that is shown throughout concerts, not always do I get to shoot and hire my actors. Those are precious little moments like I had with the Spice Girls and Britney Spears.

Now the big question! (Laughs) Have you checked out this past week’s episode of General Hospital where Patrick (Jason Thompson) saw Robin (Kimberly McCullough) for the first time in two years? Big stuff!
LILLY: Not yet. I haven’t had the time, but I will admit I am going to go watch General Hospital online, because I heard that Kimberly McCullough and Jason Thompson were just amazing! I can’t wait to watch and I’m going to admit this … I am a fan of yours Jason Thompson and Kimberly! I am a fan!
So GH fans, do you think Lily Rivera could be alive and well and be part of the plot moving forward to bring down Sonny by the Jerome clan? Would you like to see that story play out? After all, Robin survived her explosion! What do you think about Lilly Melgar’s comments on the importance of the day that Lily blew up to the history of the character of Sonny Corinthos? And if you saw The Bay, were you turned on … or … turned off … by the decision to have Janice jump into bed with young Peter? Weigh-in below!
I hope she comes back that would bring in so much drama and quite frankly make Sonny a little more interesting outside of the mob.
As much as I am loving GH…they really need to stop with the back from the dead characters. What’s next…a recast of Edward and Lila Quartermaine…they faked their deaths with their son Alan…and Scotty’s wife Dominique never died…she’s been on the run with B.J…who staged the bus accident? Sorry…went on a rant there! It seems that’s GH’s go to with storylines…and it loses it’s appeal quick!
There were no bodies..
When no bodies the door is open for a return, all soap fans know that!!
Now with Robin, there was a body but not hers lol 🙂 ..
I echo John’s comments. People die in real life. So do characters in our stories. Sadly, that is part of our world. The old plot chestnut of returning from the dead is beginning to lose its impact with me on GH. I hope Cartini have used it to restore GH to a point where the ship can set sail with provocative emotional human stories with those now on board.
Baby switches and surprise parentages, too, could be retired with resurrections. There are more stories to tell.
I did not watch when Lily was on but maybe if Shawn or Sonny try to kill Carlos he could blurt out he knows a secret that Sonny should know: Lily is alive! but Carlos wont say more unless Sonny agrees not to kill him!
I agree…do we really need more coming back from the dead…instead lets have Anna investigate someone who is already dead…the burned body found in the lab that they all thought was Robin!!!
I love Lilly Melgar, but I don’t want Lily Rivera to be alive. Some characters need to stay DEAD and yes, her death was a very important, shaping event for Sonny’s life, so I don’t want to see that undone. I wouldn’t mind them resurrecting the Marcella Montoya character, the prostitute who had plastic surgery to look like Lily, as a part of a gaslighting story for Sonny, though. That was her original purpose when Alcazar bankrolled her surgery.
It was odd that they would give Carlos the Rivera name, and then establish in the last episode that he is NOT related to the Rivera family. It seems a perfect opportunity, given his mob ties and connection to Sabrina, who is Juan’s cousin by Juan’s adoption into the Santiago family. Juan being Lily’s son via Miguel Morez. If Carlos was “A” Rivera, it still wouldn’t link him to Sabrina biologically, and would make sense if Juan/Lily was a reason Carlos and Sabrina originally came into each others’ circle in Puerto Rico. Why pass up this opportunity by not linking him to the Rivera family. It would give Carlos a VERY personal stake in the war on Sonny. Sonny inherited the mob family Carlos should be running, and he’s based in Port Charles, which the Jeromes consider to be their territory.
Maybe Carlos will scramble once Sonny targets him and will pretend he really is one of “the” Rivera family to try to get his life spared.
The Janice / Peter hook-up on The Bay was definitely a jaw dropper. Didn’t see that coming at all. Can’t wait to see where that leads. Lucky Peter!
Yes bring her back and have brenda come back on the canvas so she can seethe with jealousy..
The thought that Cartini is going to reverse CLINK BOOM for the character of Sabrina makes me want to vomit.
Couldn’t agree more. To my mind it would be akin to when AMC un-aborted Erica’s child and gave her a son.
What do you mean, reverse the CLINK BOOM for the character Sabrina?
Don’t even get me started….talk about beating a dead horse, er, “Sparkle Pony!” (Kudos to whomever first dubbed her as such….) Just give it up, “Cartini”…..the “Sabrina Experiment” has failed miserably and no amount of reworking past history to accommodate her character will make her more popular or palatable!!!
I couldn’t agree more. I can’t stand the Sabrina character and she makes me dislike just about any character in her sphere. WAAAAY too much airtime for her and the storyline. The only redeeming thing about it to me was Robin reuniting with her family and all the great acting/characters in that part of the story. I wish Carlos would whisk her away to Puerto Rico and take her BFF Felix with them.
I agree 100% and take felix with her robin needs to be reunited with Patrick period.
All I am gonna say is I don’t want Lily to ever be found alive and it has nothing to do with Lily Melgar and everything to do with the fact that the character’s death is an infamous part of GH history and the character of Sonny. I don’t want to see this all undone now or ever.
Prove she is dead; no body 🙂
robin not being dead (though I’m glad) is somewhat ridiculous. To have an identical storyline, with Lily having survived an explosion, or her death being faked, would be too much!
at first i was ok with the idea but after reading your comments it woke me up and i realize you are right…the story would be too identical and too soon…they should just bring back Brenda instead!
I agree Brenda needs to come back to be with sonny their love story was one of the best on GH
Lily i believe is Carlo’s mom and yup Sonny’s kid. Its just to perfect…Two sons against him…Lily was preggers with a boy when she “died” and the jeromes might have helped the Riveras..Hense Carlos’s loyauty to them…he may not know about Sonny but its all very possible….
To me Carlos looks almost as old as Sonny. Then again, he and Patrick appear ancient next to that insipid, childish Sabrina. But I still think Carlos is too old to be Sonny’s child. But I agree that the Rivera name seems somewhat coincidental/convenient not to be somehow related to Lilly.
Then again FrankenTodd being Scotty and Heather’s son seems a bit odd to me too (age-wise). I watched GH back then and I think FrankenTodd is too old to fit the storyline. Talk about rewriting GH history!
If Carlos were Sonny’s son he would have to be younger than Dante. Sonny was with Olivia right out of highschool. Lily was well after that. Couldn’t he just be a lost brother or cousin of Lily’s Instead?
Yay, Janice Cougar! lol As for GH, I am for anything she is in! She grew on me, then we became friends and I finally got to meet her. Beautiful inside and out! Besides, Olivia can’t compete with the love they had. Lol
i predicted this a few weeks ago, i said that lily is indeed alive. sabrina’s father is sonny corinthos, mark my words. i think, i may be right. i hope she comes back at general hospital. lily is alive, sonny will be shocked lol.
She’ll be back. This is a Ron C. staple. And sometimes it works IMO – but it only works well in small doses – and rarely. But as good as Ron C. is in many ways, he also overdoses the audience on his pet projects, pet storylines and pet characters. Current case in point – Sabrina. God help you if you don’t like the character, or thinks she’s on too much cuz Ron C. will force her on viewers one way or another. And it’s not fair, especially to the actors themselves.
Ron C. has said he was a big fan of GH back in the early 80’s and he seems determined to resurrect that period of GH come hell or high water. If that’s the way he’s going, then I wish his favorite period of GH was one that Sonny HADN’T been in, but that’s me.
I wish he would concentrate on the current cast he has – (and he could cut some of those – Lucy Coe, Felix, Brad, Ava, Kiki, etc and I’d be happy) – and not throw in yet one more major storyline with new/returning characters. Right now characters and storylines disappear for weeks on end, and if this resurrection happens then we can expect to lose sight of Patrick/Robin/Anna/Emma for quite some time, the same way AJ has disappeared currently.
And worst of all by far, this will give Sonny another front and center storyline, with Sabrina in it as well. Don’t we deserve better than that??
maybe Sabrina and Sonny will have a front and center storyline together…Sonny is Sabrinas Papa like poster Ricardo predicted! I agree that some characters should be dropped…however, i kinda like Ava, her character reminds me of something out of a 1940s film noir movie…im absolutely bored with some of those others you’ve mentioned!!! The show is also better since they havent shown T.J., Rafe, Molly and Taylor…downsizing is needed here!!! other than that the show and Days(the last two weeks was the better soap) are must see tv!!!
Lilly Melgar/Lily Rivera will be back if FV can get her..
FV is awesome at bringing vets back to create new stories and thrill the fans..
FV and RC connect the dots of GH history and keep the past alive, so I can see Lilly Melgar back on GH..
You are so right!
Ron C. and Frank V. are even better at bringing back vets and then forgetting to use them for weeks on end.
And nobody can even come close to their ability to bring back characters like Lucy Coe who were bad enough the first time around and make them even more annoying.
As for connecting the dots of GH history, nobody can say they don’t make those GH history dots look like a teenager with a terrible attack of the zits.
I do have to say, though, that rather than have Lily back on GH it would be even more astounding if she was discovered UNDER it.
I hope she doesn’t come back. The “Clink Boom” scene is one of the most classic moments in soap opera history. Leave it alone. Some things are best left as they are. I don’t mind a certain amount of rewriting history, cause that happens on every soap, and you learn to accept it. But to bring Lily back from the dead, that would be a step too far.
I realize a lot of people have come back from the dead and it’s really pushing my suspension of disbelief to the limits, but someone has to correct the mistakes that Bob Guza and JFP did with this show! I miss the actors so I’m happy to see them.
A Lily return is inevitable, but I wish they wouldn’t…. her death feels like one of those you don’t screw around with. I usually don’t mind the ‘back from the dead’ trope – glad to have Duke, Robin, AJ back on the show – and am liking the new Julian – but it kind of feels like it’s gotten to be too much (even for this show). I guess I’d rather have Alan, Emily, Georgie back over Lily but partly because I love the Qs and have never really warmed up to the mob – wish that the show treated Sonny as a villain rather than as a hero.
Sonny ex-wife is alive
WTH are they doing to the show???????
CLINK BOOM is one of those moments that should just be left alone. I can’t believe Cartini are contemplating reversing this so Sabrina can be Sonny’s daughter. He has enough children. It is a total slap in the face to the character of Christina who has roots on this show and there is plenty of story to tell….she even has Cassidine roots. It just once again proves that they only care about their creations…Sabrina, not GH history.
I AGREE WITH YOU TOTALLY
I have nothing against Lily. The actress was fine. But this would mean to much Sonny for me. FF would be my middle name if I even bothered to DVR it. They already had a sonny’s unknown son story, Now the dirty cop who is Sonny’s perjury committing son. I don’t like at all. Unless Carlos kills sonny then finds out he was his sperm donor. ReRon may read this and do it. he is great for wash, rinse and re-peat. I just wouldn’t watch it.
IF Lily returned the stories that would come from it would be earthshaking..
Years of good exciting stories..
Never a dull moment!! Great entertainment!
I would love to have her back!!
No body reorganized, leaves an open door..
I think it would be awesome if several bodies were reorganized.
Sonny’s body could be reorganized by separating his head from his body.
Olivia’s body could be reorganized by removing her voice box.
Kiki’s body could be reorganized by replacing her completely with a giant potato.
Since Maxie is already a giant potato, it would be earthskaking to replace her with another root vegetable, perhaps a rutabaga?
Then they could use that open door to push Sabrina, Felix and Brad right through it, hopefully right down a 4 story flight of stairs.
And as for earthshaking and years of good exciting stories, perhaps TIIC could actually have story continuity and even MORE earthshaking, do more than try to recreate the 80’s.
I DO like the body reorganizing you suggest, though, a lot.
Did anyone else notice that Lily’s wedding dress is just like Sabrina’s?
This would just be overkill like the Anna and Duke mask became overkill. Didn’t ABC tell Ron enough on that.? Plus with the rumor of Stefan coming back from the dead, i would say this show has played out their back from the dead card. I know its a soap blah blah blah blah blah but this gimick would make GH a joke. Its not fair for Ron Carlivati to change or rewrite previous writers work, even Rob Guza’s. It would also alter the history of why sonny is the way he is, and change everything about every story that came after that. It would be like bringing back Stone for Robin, it would change everything about Robin. Plus we all know further down the line that Jason is coming back, once Y&R fires Jill and send steve packing, and then theres Stefan, and ect ect ect.
Loved Sonny & Lily. But I’m into Sonny & Olivia. I admit I would love more Sonny on the screen. My favorite character of all time.
I AGREE TEA SONNY IS MY FAVORITE CHARACTER AS WELL, LOVE HIM AND THOSE DIMPLES!!
my theory. Lily’s father staged the whole thing because he knew he could maybe hurt his daughter and had someone make sure she was not in the car. Then, had one of his goons sacrifice his life in the car. Lily, the baby she was carrying is alive and well! Lily has been kept away from everyone this whole time. Lily and Sonny reunite the way it should be 😀
I wonder if Simone, Keisha or Taylor is still alive?
I read that Lily is now in charge of her father’s empire in Puerto Rico and that Sabrina is Lily and Sonny’s daughter. Interesting twist, considering how loved Lily was by most of Port Charles, not by Brenda, obviously! Oh, how I loved the 90’s and Sonny and Brenda!
I AGREE WITH YOU THE 90S WERE THE BEST WITH SONNY AND BRENDA!!
Lilly has been one of my faves on THE BAY as Janice, And what a way to start the new season, with a steamy love scene with Kristos (peter). Curious
To how that’s gonna continue to play out. I never really watched GH. But to see more of her, I’m
Sure i would love it!!!
Please no Lily. I hated that character not the actress.
I think to see Lilly come back as Sabrina’s Mom is a great idea! This would be a great scenario! I hoping you bring her back, it would be so amazing!! Please Please Please!
Lily should come back with Sabrina Satiago as her daughter by sonny Corithos .
General Hospital
GENERAL HOSPITAL: Dante and ‘Nathan’ Have It Out, Valentin and Carly Share Passionate Moments Which May Be Their Last
On the June 16 episode of General Hospital, the PCPD under acting police commissioner Dante Falconeri (Dominic Zamprogna) is in a bit of mess and does not go unnoticed by ADA Turner (Nazneen Contractor).
First, there is the whole Chase (Josh Swickard) defending Willow Cain (Katelyn MacMullen) over Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot), who he arrested for allegedly tossing Willow in the waters next to the Quartermaine boathouse. Turner has had it with Chase’s good guy act and how he tampered with evidence in her case against Willow for shooting Drew.
Later, Dante and Justine question “Nathan” (Ryan Paevey) about Sidwell’s escape while in his custody. Turner is not buying his cover story that he was ambushed by Sidwell and his men. Once “Nathan” left the interrogation room, Turner went in on Dante about having “Nathan” on the force after seven years away, and Chase she views as a “dirty cop.”
However, Dante defends both of his officers, but Justine warned that “Nathan” and Chase’s behavior would reflect poorly on Dante as commissioner and she should really think about that. Later, Dante has a terse confrontation with “Nathan” on how he botched a prison transport and that he better watch his back as Justine is one step away from turning this over to Internal Affairs.
COP MADNESS
Next, “Nathan” apologizes for the way he handled the situation with Rocco and says he feels badly. But then in the twist, Dante said that he was grateful that “Nathan” had been there for his son in his time of need (referencing after Rocco shot Cullum and covered it up).
Then, there’s the newest police officer in the precinct, Joe Fitzpatrick (Jonathan Bennett). He may actually be on to “Nathan’s” double life when he questions him about a syringe found in Britt’s room at Bobbie’s. “Nathan” made up a story to counter Joe’s, that he was not aware that his sister was taking anything for her Huntington’s disease diagnosis. Joe called the forensic department lab wanting to know what drug was exactly in the syringe.

BEFORE YOU GO
At Carly’s (Laura Wright), Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) tells her that he must travel to Geneva to speak to the head of the WSB, named Z. Valentin feels it’s the only way to save Josslyn if he informs Z about Cullum (Andrew Hawkes) being a double agent. Valentin shares with Carly that he has to stop Cullum from bringing his dangerous cold fusion device online. Carly is beside herself. She doesn’t want Valentin to sacrifice himself by turning himself into the organization who has made him a fugitive in the first place. Valentin stands firm that he must meet Z in person.
Knowing that revealing himself to the WSB meant he was likely going back to prison, Valentin asked Carly if she’d get in touch with his daughter, Charlotte so he could say good-bye to her. Next, Carly and Valentin make their way to the bedroom to make love, which may be for the very last time, if Valentin is caught and put back in Steinmauer Maximum Security Prison.

Courtesy/ABC
CAUGHT BY CULLUM
At the same time while at Wydemere, Cullum is talking with one of his WSB operatives. Now, he is pondering if Valentin and Sidwell were working together all along. Next, Cullum entertains the idea of involving the FBI to locate Britt and Rocco. He says he plans to kill them both once he knows of their whereabouts. Cullum sees the only other threat to the completion of the cold fusion project to be Anna Devane.
Cullum wants to track the location of the unidentified person who called the private clinic in France trying to get in touch with Anna, while pretending to be Kevin Collins. When the agent came back with a report, he says it emanated from a cell tower near Shoreline Road. It’s in the that moment that a light bulb goes on for Cullum! Valentin is in Port Charles and hiding at Carly’s!
So, what do you think of the PCPD cops, Chase, Joe and “Nathan?” Who should Dante fire? Do you think Valentin will go the run?Are you digging Carly and Valentin’s relationship and want it to continue, especially with Finola Hughes on her way back as Anna next month on-screen? Weigh-in via the comment section, and in case you missed it, you can check out our latest interview with Dominic Zamprogna below from his appearance on the Michael Fairman Channel, where he talks the PCPD cops, Rocco on the run, and more.

GH and DAYS Alum Brandon Barash and Wife Isabella Welcome Son ‘Sebastian’ Into the World
Congratulations are in order for General Hospital and Days of Our Lives favorite Brandon Barash (ex-Johnny and ex-Stefan/Jake, respectively) and his wife, Isabella Devoto Barash, who welcomed their newborn son, Sebastian Antonio Barash back on June 5.
For the first time his Sebastian’s birth the couple is posting and beaming with pride at the new addition to the family. This is Brandon and Isabella’s second child and second son together following the birth of Joaquin Lee Barash back in September of 2023. Barash is also the father of Harper Rose Barash from his previous marriage to General Hospital star, Kirsten Storms (Maxie) who is now 12-years-old and big sister to do younger brothers!
In his heartfelt post on Instagram accompanied by several photos of his growing family, Brandon expressed, “The heart is indeed a muscle, and boy, can it stretch. We welcomed our newest addition Sebastian Antonio Barash (Antonio after Isa’s dad) on 6.5.26. Lil Seba, I vow to love you with undying ferocity and without condition. As for our new family of five, we have all already evolved for the better as we rise like the lotus through the muck of sleepless nights, soul-tingling baby whimpers, and yes, poopy diapers. These babies teach us a clinic on love…all we need to do is saddle up, be still, and take em in. Isabella Barash, you’re my hero. Thank you for the gift of your love. House is full, hearts fuller.”

BRANDON’S BUDDIES CONGRATULATE HIM ON WELCOMING NEW SON
Several of Brandon’s former co-stars have already jumped in the commenting thread including, Rob Scott Wilson (Alex, DAYS) “Congrats my brotha!!,” Dan Feuerriegel (EJ, DAYD) and Eric Martsolf (Brady, DAYS), with whom Brandon appears with in the Day Players Band and more.
Back in April of this year, Brandon was granted an emergency restraining order against his ex-wife, Kirsten Storms claiming that the GH favorite was exhibiting concerning behavior and he feared for the well-being of their daughter, Harper. They each now live separate lives in Tennessee.
We send our well-wishes to Brandon, Isabella and their new son, Sebastian as they build their burgeoning family unit.

‘General Hospital’s’ Controversial Luke and Laura Rape Episode: Writer Sheri Anderson Reveals Behind the Scenes Decisions and Admits ‘I Was Wrong’ to Defend It (Exclusive)
It’s one of the most controversial storylines in soap opera history, when Luke (the late Anthony Geary) raped Laura (Genie Francis) back in an episode that aired in 1979. In the story, one fateful night while believing his latest assignment for the mob would get him killed, Luke drank heavily, and confessed his love to Laura. She had been working at the disco at the time and tried to comfort him.
Luke said, “I’m not going to die without holding you in my arms just one time. Dance with me.” As Herb Alpert’s “Rise,” played in the background, Laura tried to leave as she was getting fearful of Luke. The camera panned away as Luke forced himself on her and Laura screamed, “No!” The aftermath also became a huge problem for the series years later. GH tried to pass it off as a seduction, while viewer outcry, and as the world evolved over the decades called it then and now what it was, “rape.”
The script writer for that episode was prolific soap opera writer and three-time Emmy winner, Sheri Anderson. The popular scribe is best-known for her work on Days of Our Lives and also her tenure as its co-head writer, but she also spent a few years at General Hospital smack dab in the late 70s and early 80s, under then legendary executive producer, Gloria Monty.

During her visit last week to the Michael Fairman Channel, where Anderson opened up about a specific moments throughout her storied writing career, as well as the state of the soaps now in our culture, she recalled the events that transpired before and after that led to her scripting the infamous rape episode on GH.
ABC NETWORK EXEC DECIDES LUKE SHOULD RAPE LAURA
Sheri began, “What happened was Pat Falken Smith (then head writer, GH) came in from a meeting and she was stoned-faced, and we said, ‘What’s going on?’ She said Jackie Smith, who was head of the network, wants Luke to rape Laura and we were like, ‘What? We can’t do that!” She said that’s what we were going to so, because we were exploring ‘date rape’ at the time.”
“So, on General Hospital, or any show that I’ve been involved with, we would get as much research as we could on the subject, especially when I was writing,” explained Anderson. “I would always send the script to a therapist and say, ‘is this accurate? Is this emotionally correct?'”
Anderson shared from the writers viewpoint what the story was about at that time: “Luke was from the wrong side of the tracks. He was trying to prove himself to the mob and they said to prove it, you have to go kill a senator Mitch Williams. Luke couldn’t go through with it, which meant he was a dead man. He went back to the Campus Disco which he owned and Laura was there. She was waiting for her husband (Scotty Baldwin). So, when Laura was trying to comfort Luke, things started to get out of control.”
THE COINED “SEDUCTION”
“The script which I wrote was 110 pages, which was typical at the time. Gloria Monty, who was a brilliant executive producer and director who changed daytime, was the director of that episode,” explained Anderson on the writing for the soap back in the late 70s. “They probably cut 30 pages of material, because she was so intent on the rape and making it as brutal as she could. So, we were just going forward and thinking, ‘Oh, my God! That was really awful.'”
Over decades, the moment was called as aforementioned, “a seduction,” a “date rape,” and then as GH viewers recalled, it was in 1998 that Luke admitted to his son Lucky (Jonathan Jackson) that he actually raped his mother, Laura.

ANDERSON COULD NO LONGER DEFEND THE STORY POINT
It is not lost on Anderson, how GH at the time, tried to pass off the on-screen incident, “In retrospect, and I believe Michelle Val Jean (creator, head-writer, executive producer of Beyond the Gates) once said that it upset her, that we would say it was really a ‘seduction’ and all of those things, because it was not. It was rape, and (back then) I would try to, in a sense, defend it, and frankly, I was wrong,” revealed Sheri.
“I wrote the rape episode and I actually wrote the episode after it and we had Emily McLaughlin who played nurse Jessie Brewer who came to me later and said, ‘thank you.’ Because she said, ‘I wrote the aftermath of it so poignantly for her and Genie,’ recalled Sheri. “Then, we had Irene Kassorla, the real-life therapist come in, and on the show do group therapy sessions. So, it was really fascinating for me I thought that we were doing it extremely well, and I still think we did it extremely well. But, yes, it was rape, and it was wrong.”

GLORIA MONTY SWORE SHE WOULD NEVER MARRY LUKE AND LAURA
In an ironic twist, when Pat Falken Smith and Sheri left General Hospital to return to Days of Our Lives, suddenly Luke and Laura were getting married, after Gloria Monty swore she would never let them tie the knot. As soap fans know, the wedding remains the most-watched episode in soap opera in history with over 30 million people tuning-in on November 16 and 17 of 1981.
“People talk about that story thinking Luke raped Laura, and then they got married. No! Luke raped Laura, but it destroyed their lives with the secrets that they carried. Laura would not tell anybody that Luke was the one who raped her, and their lives were altered in so many ways. It took a long time to bring them back as a couple because they had such chemistry personally, so it was just the obvious way to go,” explained Anderson of the writers mindset at the time. “Gloria Monty said to us, ‘We’ll never marry them.’ Then, when as a writing team we left and went to Days of Our Lives, she married them two months later.”
