Earlier today, we announced that Deidre Hall’s first airdate back as Marlena on Days of our Lives is September 26th, and now comes the confirmation from Soap Opera Digest, (that we expected), so too will that be the airdate for the return of soap favorite Drake Hogestyn in the role of John Black.

DAYS Executive Producer told SOD, “We are thrilled that Deidre and Drake are rejoining the show. I know their return will excite loyal fans and intrigue new viewers. We are gearing up for some amazing cast surprises and guest stars visiting Salem in the fall, launching a grand event airing on September 26th.”

So what could be the grand event that everyone is a buzz about that is  going to happen in Salem?  Any guesses, soapers?

I dont care who they bring back to days.I cant stand who they are bringing back.Cant stand drake..bad actor. This soap has alot of bad actors. The best ones they do have they let go..so I will be leaving also.Days sucks anymore with the writing and acting.Adios

I Agree about one thing Drake is a bad actor but Days have amazing actors James Scott , Alison and Arianna Zucker.

I’m thrilled for Dee & Drake and all the J/M fans. I wish Kayla AND Steve were included in that, and who knows, ya never know, I suppose. But J/M fans were dealt a really bad hand with their exit, not to mention the actors, themselves. I’m looking forward to their return, and I’m looking forward to whatever this shindig is on the 26th. Someone getting married? Having a baby? Hmm. Well, see ya in the fall then.

Thank you Hilary for your sweet words! I always loved Drake’s scenes with Mary Beth. IMO they were the BEST brother/sister team on soap operas. It would be AWESOME to see Kayla come back and welcome John into the Brady family!

Yay, this is great news. Yes of course Drake isn’t the worlds best actor but he is not terrible either and he is a fan fave with more history on the show. I am sad that some of the other talented actors had to leave for him to come back but it will be worth it in the end. The new writers will be much better than Dena Higley (who destroyed Days IMO).

YAHOOOOOO! HURRAHHHHHH, DRAKE IS BACK, DRAKE IS BACK! I can’t believe this day is FINALLY here! I’ve waited two whole years for Drake to grace our TV screens again and it is FINALLY happening! Thank you Michael for the confirmation! Now, if luck is with us, the new writers will drop this sci-fi stuff that Drake ALWAYS gets stuck performing. I’d love to see DAYS get right out of the outrageous storyline and get into storyline that is more realistic. My favorite Drake storyline is STILL Isabella’s fight with cancer. Drake (as always) was outstanding in that storyline as was Staci. Drake is an extraordinary actor that CAN pull off ANY storyline and make it very enjoyable to watch, but it would be nice if he was again given the chance to play something more reality based. I can’t WAIT until September 26th – SCREAMSSSSSS! WELCOME BACK DRAKE!

I love the Ken has retooled the soap. I have watched DOOL for over 25 years and hope to for at least another 25. Marlena, John, Carrie, Austin, & Jack are great characters to bring back. I hope we get Bryan Datillo’s Lucas back at some point as well. I am not sure what the grand event might be… a milestone birthday for Caroline?..some sort of tribute to Alice Horton (a new hospital wing or clinic, etc) ..maybe a wedding?

I am thrilled that deidre and drake are back on days! I’ll be tuning back in for the first time in 2 1/2 years. Sounds like days is going back to it’s roots and I couldn’t be happier!!!

What’s with all of the Drake hate? Good golly. I know some are angry because Crystal and Louise didn’t have their contracts renewed, but keep in mind that Drake was let go so that those two actresses (and others) could return to DAYS. It isn’t Drake’s fault that they were let go. Heck, if he is being blamed for these actors being let go, isn’t it only fair to also blame Deidre, Matt, Patrick…too?

Drake is FAR from a “bad actor.” If he was a bad actor, TPTB wouldn’t have given him nearly a dozen different characters to play during his 23 years on the show. They presented him with these characters because he is a FABULOUS actor that can even make DAYS often ridiculous scripts VERY enjoyable. He has more than proven that he has what it takes to be a lead actor. Now, if the writers would stop writing his character like a super hero and instead make him a hero, we’d be all set.

I Love John,he is so much fun, If John and Marlena had not been let go two years ago,Days would not still be on the air?? so Im HAPPY they are coming back, but remember fans its only for a few weeks.

now give us back Lucas Horton,,, LOYAL FAN JJ

Hi Lumi! I don’t think there has been any word regarding the length of the actor’s stay. I’m hoping at least Drake will stick around for a LONG time! 🙂

I agree about Bryan too, the show (IMO) needs Lucas!

I think DRAKE is an excellent actor he shows great range, emotion & emphasizes the right moments in all his scenes. Those who think he is a bad actor that is your opinions like the saying goes “opinions are like a$$holes, we all have them.” Your opinion doesn’t count anymore than my. That are several Actors, Actressess current on “Days” & some that were recently let go that I think are the Worst, Hair Model Actors/Actresses ever but I don’t going post nasty comments on post about them.
As another saying goes, “Those who CAN DO, those who CAN’T Critize!!” So for all you critic out there, if you think you know so much about Great Acting, Get off your butts & Act. Than you, can Judge from experinece.

As for the HATERS out there, Mad at DRAKE for Crystal Chappell, Louise Sorel, and others being let Go, DRAKE returning has NOTHING AT ALL TO DO WITH their firings. Just like DRAKE was let go, it was NO ONE FAULT but TPTB at DAYS, they are the ones that make all those decisions, the actors have NO SAY IN IT.

I for one love Louise Sorel, and thinks she is a Great Actress, with Great Dramatic timing it is possible I would Love to see them keep Louise & the character of Vivian around. I have not watch Days since DRAKE was let go, but I will sitting in front of my Tv on Sept 26th anxiously awating DRAKE’s return.

THANK YOU Soap Fan, you said what I was trying to say PERFECTLY! Drake is a fabulous actor PERIOD but like you said, his emotional range is beyond awesome. He is the one actor on DAYS that sells emotional scenes time and again, he can cry so hard in character that his nose runs and his body shakes – now THAT is acting!

Do I understand fans of the fired actors being upset? Of course I do, I mean I for one wasn’t happy at all when Drake was let go, in fact I was livid but as I recall, I took it up with Ken and TPTB for their choice, I didn’t go on the boards and start hating on the actors hired shortly after we lost Drake, Deidre, Mary Beth, Steve and Thaao – why? Because it isn’t their fault that TPTB made the choice to rest those five actors anymore than it is Drake, Deidre, Patrick, Christie or Matt’s fault that other actors have been let go.

Anyway, moving on…

I love John and Marlena, and want them to stay forever, but I love Lucas and my Tony too, hope they come back soon.

Brady’s funeral or lethal injection for what he did to EJ. Maybe Will’s coming out party. lol

YAY GO DRAKE ITS SOOOOOOOOOOO DANG GOOD 2 HAVE THE BEST ACTOR BACK ON THE SHOW? MAKES US PROUD MAN =) I BE LOOKIN 4 U SEPTEMBER 26TH

THANKS 4 COMING BACK MAN IM SOOOOOOOOO HAPPY NOW U GIVE ME A REASON TO WATCH DAYS

U ROCK DRAKE HOGESTYN =)

COME ON DOWN DRAKE HOGESTYNNNNN U KNOW WHERE U STAND MAN MAKE UR FANS HAPPY =)

On Friday, reports surfaced that Steve Kent, Senior Executive Vice President of Programming at Sony Pictures Television, is no longer with the company and overseeing the Sony soap operas, Days of our Lives and The Young and the Restless.

According to Soap Opera Digest, a set side source reported that Kent’s last day was last Friday, April 12th, which was one day after what would have been his final appearance in his Sony VP role at the Days of our Lives 15,000th episode on set celebration.
