The rumors turned out to be true! In a move that will reunite five-time Daytime Emmy nominee Jason Thompson (Ex-Patrick, GH) with the executive producer who gave him his soap start at GH, Jill Farren Phelps,Thompson is indeed heading to Genoa City as the new Billy Abbott at The Young and the Restless!
The news was broke exclusively this afternoon by EW.com which noted that Jason will begin airing in January as the new Billy following the departure of Burgess Jenkins in the role. Jenkins recently revealed he is done at the number one soap opera.
In a statement, Jill Farren Phelps related her excitement on bringing Jason to Y&R: “I feel so lucky to have the opportunity to work with Jason again. He’s an exceptional actor and a wonderful human being. He will bring so much to the character and we’re thrilled to welcome him to The Young and Restless family.”
CBS Daytime Sr. VP Angelica McDaniel offered up: “Jason Thompson is an incredibly gifted actor and we are thrilled to welcome him. Playing the pivotal role of Billy Abbott, Jason joins the talented cast of The Young and the Restless as the show celebrates an unprecedented 27 consecutive years as daytime’s No. 1 drama.”
Thompson who wrapped his run as GH’s Patrick told Soap Opera Digest: “There are a lot of guys who have played this character and one of them did it for a number of years, Billy Miller (Currently, GH’s Jason]. I’ve become really friendly with Billy and we’ve had a couple conversations about it and he was nothing but gracious to me… It’s going to be hard to fill his shoes.”
So, what do you think of the news that Jason Thompson is Y&R’s new Billy Abbott? Is GH’s loss Y&R’s big gain? Share your thoughts on this confirmed casting news in the comment section below!
To me, he’s not visually right for the role of Billy Abbott. I love Jason as an actor, and while I am not thrilled with the role he’s taking claim of, I will support him and enjoy seeing him grow as an actor in a brand-new role. After ten years as one character, this will be an adjustment, not only for Jason but for audiences, as well.
I like the actor but I agree that he is not visually right for the role. I seem to be in the minority but I really liked Burgess’ portrayal of Billy. I love his deadpan delivery of insults to Victor.
I loved Burgess before he became Billy, and I grew to really love him as Billy. But I get that he’s deciding to be with his family right now.
No you’re not in the minority, I see more that don’t think he’s a good fit than do. I don’t know the actor, but just looking at his pictures, that is not Billy Abbott.
They should just scrap the role of Billy & Kyle, they can’t seem to get the right fit for either role. They had it once with Billy Miller, but that’s gone by the wayside, probably never to return.
I totally agree. He is not visually correct for the role. Too dark.
I enjoyed that as well. His bantering with Victor always cracked a smile from me
Let’s see you’re not visually right for a made up tv character in a made up town on daytime tv. No adjustment needed. .glad. BJ is gone abs talent is taking over. .just wear a blind fold during his scenes lol
You’re missing the point…. Jason, to me, does not fit the vision of who I believe Billy Abbott to look like. Has zero to do with Jason’s looks themselves.
Hey, dav,
I agree with Scott. I had said the same thing weeks ago, when it was first rumored that Thompson would assume the role of Billy A. In fact, I did not even take the rumors swirling around, seriously. I said as much to Timmm, adding that Thompson would not fit in with the rest of the Abbots….not because of his looks ( he is good-looking, afterall), but because of our image of what Billy A should look like. I went as far as to say that I could not picture Thompson as a blonde. Lol.
Nonetheless, things will fall rightly into place….as it was suggested by Mary SF, this Billy will take after the Fosters in countenance. If you read Mary’s posts, she is always right in assessing situations; and, she does it subtly and wisely.
So, now we have a new Billy. Let us see what he brings to this sumptuous table….hopefully, something scrumptious.
I do not like the new Billy on the Young and the Restless,
He can never be Billy Abbott, the looks, acting and he doesn’t even
Look right for Victoria, please pay and bring the old Billy back.
This guy is not Billy Abbot. When he comes on i fast foward thru. He has no idea how to be Billy. The first was Billy-the one who left when Adam did. 2nd was ok, but this one is not right.
I like the new Adam.
I simply ADORE ” new” Billy Abbott. He brings so much to the role of Billy:
incredible good looks ( I like his dark good looks ) , a million dollar smile,
intelligence, good heart, sensitivity and downright wonderful rapport with the
rest of the cast of ” The Young and the Restless”. Jason is a very gifted
actor as well. He portrays Billy Abbott so well that he is not playing Billy,
he IS Billy.
I cannot believe this!!!!!! This is fantastic news!!! I sincerely hope AH doesn’t drain the life out of him with her dreadful acting. He will be on fire with Chelsea. Can’t wait to see how this plays out!! Only downside is this talented actor coming aboard and being under chuck Pratt’s SUPER shallow writing. YR will not do him justice. I knew this would end up happening. No doubt he will bring the required depth to the role but it is sincerely time to find out who really killed Delia. Beyond time. Can we get the YR regime of yesteryear back?? Where is Ed Scott, Kay Alden, Jack Smith, or Hogan sheffer???
Hi, Richard….
I’m a little confused? Are you saying you wasn’t Billy and Chelsea back together? Why would he “be on fire with Chelsea”? She’s married to Adam and quite happy. I hope we don’t see any more hanky pinky going on.
Oh boy….what a travesty this autocorrect is: should read, ‘you WANT Billy and Chelsea….’, and, hanky panky.
hey CeeCee,,
couples are doomed from 1st kiss..
Chelsea could have a blowout with Adam and hook up with Billy, again..
it’s the what soap couples roll … lol
Ed Scott is working at B&B.
I don’t think Amelia is dreadful. Burgess is the one who is dreadful.
Agreed, Mo. Burgess brought everyone down. Such a colorless personality. Amelia is one of the best actresses/characters on Y&R….steadfast, I say.
You got that right Mo!
You know what, Richard? I think I may have spoken too soon. As su pointed out, soaps are fickle and their characters even more volatile. Thus, I seem to sense a revival of something between Adam and Sage. In other words, if anything comes out of that, then Billy and Chelsea may very well rekindle what they had.
Billy will get into some kind of accident (crash?), ……hmmmmm, plastic surgery? Facial reconstruction?
I think I’m going to like it. Congrats Jason! 😉
Yes, CONGRATULATIONS , Jason. So happy to see you play on ” The Young
and the Restless”.
Jason is a great actor… but he looks nothing like an Abbott! Remember back when recasts at least TRIED to look like the actor they were replacing? In the 80s/90s, RKK at least somewhat resembled PR (B0) on Days. When Melissa Reeves left Days and was replaced by Stephanie Cameron, they looked like sisters. I could go on, but you guys get the point! I’m sure he’ll find chemistry with the cast, especially if they try to reconnect Dylan & Billy’s friendship that was started with Miller & Burton.
Though… I’m kind of surprised JT is jumping into another soap right away. I thought he might try to get more episodic work before diving into another soap role.
Newly married and expecting twins?? Episodic work doesnt cut it. He wouldnt have left GH unless he had a better offer lined up.
Well, he has to pay the bills .. family to take care of..
I am excited about this and very supportive of Jason as he steps into this iconic role of Billy Abbott. I just hope people give him a chance.
@ Joe Sales : My sentiments exactly !
noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
NOT BILLY ABBOTT….I THINK HE IS A GOOD ACTOR BUT I DO NOT WISH TO SEE HIM TAKE ON THIS ROLE……
I agree Judy K. Jason doesn’t have the right personality for “Billy Abbott”. I think he is a great actor with a more serious personality. I think this is a miscast.
Why, Su?
The main reason I’m not pleased with Thompson’s departure is because there is no longer one major GH character that is a doctor – RIDICULOUS for a show based around a hospital. I guess it’s very telling that GH has concentrated for too long on stuff outside the hospital when none of the 2nd generation cast has the education or knowledge to realistically work inside a hospital other than Elizabeth Webber. How pathetic is that? Not one Spencer, Quartermaine, or Cassadine under the age of 50 has any medical training. Only the supporting and barely recurring characters have connections to the hospital.
Lucas Jones
@Tony – You proved my point. “Lucas Jones” = supporting & barely recurring character. Doctors & nurses are no longer considered major players on GH. All but 2 of the major roles are held by criminals, their partners/wife-of-the-season, their children, their henchmen & their lawyers.
yesssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss
Speechless lol. A real diss to the writers at GH (they deserve it as they have had awful storylines for Dr. Drake.) Since I love GH and Y&R, I will get my Jason fix in (hopefully) a better storyline.
I watch both shows too so I’m happy JT will still be around. I just hope his storylines are better that the crap Steve Burton has gotten.
If that’s how JFP treats her “Pets” then I’m afraid, very afraid!
I was thinking of the same thing.
He could pull it off–he can channel that Billy Abbott energy.
Remember when he first came to GH as Dr Patrick Drake? Aside from being a brilliant young surgeon, he was also an arrogant playboy. Then he got married and subsequently, Robin left, Sparkle Pony spread her fairy dust, Sam wouldn’t stop muttering “Jason.” while in his presence, and Patrick was rendered impotent.
Agree. Steve burtons character is a far cry from his jason role, i dont understand why they switch around so much, unless it has to do with money
Jason Thompson is a talented actor. But he’s going to have a big job to convince me he’s Billy Abbott. I can’t put my finger on it, but as much as I admire him, I don’t see him in this role. I will be happy to have him change my mind!
I totally agree! I don’t see him having that Billy Miller twinkle in his eye. He doesn’t seem very comedic to me, but I’ll give him a chance. I hope he has chemistry with AH. She does so well with someone who makes her laugh. He looks nothing like an Abbott though. They all look related and now theres JT who looks more like a Newman. Oh well, good luck Jason Thompson. We’re crossing our fingers for your sake and ours!!!
I also totally agree. I just cannot picture him in the Billy Abbott role at all. Since I watch GH as well, it will be very hard for me to see him as anyone but Patrick. I too think that physically he does not fit the character. I’m very disappointed in this recast. I thought Burgess was doing a good job.
Mary helped me see the light. Think of Jill FOSTER and not John ABBOTT and Jason fits in perfectly!
Timmm, I’ll reply to you here. It also rubs me the wrong way that you said “Holy cow!” in your reply to me. 🙂
Hi Timmm … Can you explain that again? I am not following “Think of Jill FOSTER and not John ABBOTT and Jason fits in perfectly!” I also just cannot picture him in the Billy Abbott role at all.
@Abruzzfan. Jason Thompson doesnt look like any of the Abbotts BUT he does look like Jill so what I’m saying is the new Billy gets his looks from JILL’S side of the family.
yes michael gh’s loss will be a very big gain for y&r – jason thompson is exceptional in his craft – i really hated to see him leave gh but his talent was just so underutilized – he has not had a decent storyline in a few years now………….i have no doubt he will do well in the role of billy abbott
I just don’t see it. Jason is a very good actor; but, I do not see him in the role of Billy. I wish him good luck.
I agree Llanviewer717. I just don’t see it. Jason is a very good actor; but, I do not see him in the role of Billy. I wish him good luck.
um, interesting? I love Jason and wish him well, but never a fan of CBS soaps so won’t be tuning in. Good luck on this role. Seems like an odd recast though.
I feel GH writers had a hard time thinking of something fresh for Patrick once Km left her role as Robin…Patrick seemed to be in limbo land ever since-pairing with Sabrina was a total bust and by the time that disaster ended it was a little to late to make Patrick interesting,,,is Emma leaving too or stayin with Anna?
So has Burgess Jenkins been fired?
HE WAS DOING A FINE JOB …REALLY GOT USED TO HIM AS HE PLAYED THE MORE MATURE BILLY ABBOTT…..WILL MISS HIM…MAYBE HE CAN END UP PLAYING A DR OF GH??
@ JUDY K : I have never liked Burgess Jenkins in the role of Billy Abbott.
His acting was so ” stiff”, ” wooden”, I am trying to find a better term to describe what I have in mind . I hope, you will understand what I mean to say.
No he decided to leave the show. According to him it’s because of the commute and draining story that exhausted him
He said he was quitting because the commute was hard, I think his home is in the east coast if I remember correctly, and it was emotionally draining because he has an 8 year old daughter that made the Delia storyline real for him. I’m totally paraphrasing, but that was the jist that I got out of his comments.
The official story is that Burgess was tired of the cross country traveling each week. He lives in N.C
But I think the truth is YR told him they were replacing him with Jason T.
@ Eileen Hargis : I sympathize with Burgess but, at the same time , I am
happy to see Jason Thompson join the rest of the cast of ” The Young and
the Restless”.
No he decided that he didn’t want to work so far from home so he quit.
He released a statement saying he was leaving because the commute to his home on the East coast was too much.
Reading between the lines I would say he either was or he saw the writing on the wall. Maybe they just didn’t renew his contract and are allowing him to say it’s his choice. Either way he’s gone. Thankfully.
Again, Mo, I think you are right on the mark. Yes, the travel could take a toll on anyone….I imagine it can become very taxing. I would think that if he had been comfortable in his position or if the viewer’s impression was hunky-dory, he could have relocated his family. That’s what people usually do for their bread and butter. Who would reject a steady job while it’s still alive? Then again, no one is privy to his business, soooo…..
However, Burgess was not well-received by most fans from the get-go. So, this was a contrived excuse and the ‘Hierarchy’ humored him, to appease any backlash. Just sayin’.
Hi CeeCee – I don’t watch B&B, but I read an interview with Thorstyn Kaye (sp?) in SD who I read is very well received as Ridge. Throughout the entire article, TK lamented on how difficult it is for him to commute and leave his family every week. Doesn’t sound like his family would consider moving either. I think TK’s daughters are close to the same age as Burgess’ daughter.
@ Mo : I agree.
He chose to leave.
i think him and victoria will look smoking together….
this new billy with vicky, adam and chelsea… and hopefully sharon and nick eventually back together are the future of y n r!!!!
I hope so, damien. Both of them deserve a long-lasting, strong, yet fulfilling and passionate relationship. It has been a while since Victoria was able to rest her head on a sturdy, supportive shoulder.
@Abruzzfan.
Hi,
I hear you. There are ever so many people who reject lucrative job offers because they do not want to uproot their kids. And, of course, we are not privy to their business. However, Burgess did not make an impression on fans. I do wish him well, though.
I hope Jason Thompson’s Billy Abottt developed a spine and focuses his anger over Delia’s death in another direction. Like working to get the goods on Victor Newman that finally backs him into a corner. I want to finally see Billy Abott holding Victor’s fate in his hands.
Great post, Mary. Adding to that, I would like to see Delia’s real killer get his/her just desserts, and close this agonizing chapter.
Huh. I can’t imagine him as Billy. He doesn’t look like an Abbott, but we’ll see.
That was my first reaction & he seems too tall-most of the Billy’s were shorter, at least the 1st 2 were. But I got to thinking-who is Billy’s mother? Jill! Jason looks more like Jill’s son than any of the others so it may just work out fine.
@ gloria. You are right. ” New” Billy inherited his dark good looks from his mother,Jill. Thank good, Billy is dark haired for a change ! I was so tired
of looking at the blond Billy.
I’m a fan of this genre and I accept the recast. Give JT great material to play and the viewers will love him. I think it is as simple as that.
@ Mark Y – you summed it up so well.
Yawn…
Although I’m probably in the minority regarding Mr. Thompson’s exit from General Hospital, I am not sad to see him go.
LOL… I think perhaps you may indeed be a minoirty on this subject…. not hard on the eyes and he does have acting chops… but the writers at GH dropped the ball!!
A HUGE loss for GH. I think I am going to start watching Y&R.
Wow, this is wonderful news. Jason will do a terrific job, as the new Billy Abbott. Celebrity dirty laundry is right yet again. There sources are on the ball, like TMZ. Lol.
Why don’t they stop this cast swapping and just merger GH with Y&R have it air on NBC, with Chris Pratt and Ron C as head writers and Suooo will be in soap heaven. LOL
Seriously, if JT can bring back the charm and humor this character once had I am willing to give him a shot. But if they keep writing Billy as dull, bitter and angry, don’t know if even JT could get me to like this character again.
Look wise he doesn’t look resemble any of the Abbots, but he does look more like Jill’s side of the family so maybe with JT on board they might bring back Billy’s mom too.
I really believe that Jason Thompson will do an excellent job in the role of “Billy Abbott”! I can’t wait to see him on the Y&R!! Great job Michael Fairman!
@ Kathy Horn : You are right on both counts.
0oohh no..
I will never get used to/accept that, I don’t think.. But- ya never know..
He/Jason had no future at GH without Robin..
The writers wrote them entwined, inseparable…
When Robin left the Patrick character withered away.. 🙁
I’m just glad he is employed and happy!
looking forward to seeing him in Genoa City and hope the recasting curse of Billy Abbott doesn’t befall Jason, too.
((And– I don’t think any of us are shocked/surprised; we saw it coming.. 🙂
Oh, here she goes again, I fear.
Jason Thompson is talented. EXTREMELY talented. Any show is lucky to get him. But I don’t see him as Billy Abbott.
JFP has done this before–put a talented actor from one of her previous shows on her new show in a role for which he’s just not right. The most glaring example I can remember is Timothy Gibbs as Kevin on One Life to Live. Great actor, but he was just all wrong as Kevin. She was smart to want someone of his caliber on OLTL but should have picked a better character for his talents. I think the same thing here: Jason Thompson is extraordinary and she’s smart to want him on the show, but I just don’t see him as Billy.
She does not seem to learn certain lessons.
You have a point, Michael. Look at Michelle Stafford!
Jason is a good actor and I wish him well. I’m a GH viewer. Started in 1993 but took a break. Coincidentally that break occurred just before Jason started playing Patrick, so I missed the whole “Scrubs” story. I came back for GH’s 50th and have been watching the past 2 1/2 years. Honestly, the character of Patrick hasn’t had much to do in the 2 1/2 years I’ve been watching. His story with Sabrina was a waste. And clearly Sam will be involved in the Jason story. Yes, they could’ve kept Patrick around had Jason wanted to re-sign, but while GH is losing a good actor, I don’t think the show will suffer from his absence. This is just my opinion and it may not be a popular one…
Wonderful actor. Interesting to note that Burgess Jenkins at 42 was several years older than David Tom at 36, but Jason Thompson is only two years older (39) than David. I’ve always felt that Jason Thompson seems to bring a layer of sophistication to his roles. On the surface, I wonder how that sophistication is going to work with the character history of Billy–but again, Jason Thompson is a wonderful actor. I’m wary of this recast given the character, but it will be interesting to see Jason Thompson’s take on Billy Abbott.
This latest GH/Y&R actor “swap” appears to give credence that there there is some type of bidding war going on between GH and Y&R. Even after watching soaps for decades, I wish I had a better understanding of how budget and outs affect so much of what we see on screen.
Amen!!! Don’t you wish we could see what happens behind the scenes like a football draft? Hahaha it seems like they do the same thing with soap stars!!
Thrilled!! Jason will knock it out of the park. He will bring great dimension to Billy.
Now, please confirm that Michael Muhney is the new Patrick. (pretty please!)
They are writing Patrick out as he leaves the show, not recasting and if they were, NOT Michael Muhney. His past baggage makes him untouchable!
0ohh;
Jill Farren Phelps is a smart woman..
She has decades of connections with the actors via working with many of the soaps best talents, the best..
And she does not hesitate to lure them in ..
Also- Y&R has the budget to make great offers to get the best..
I doubt GH, as of now with J&S that they could lure anybody in ahaa!
I always loved Jason Thompson as Patrick and was disappointed when I heard he was leaving GH. Now I’m excited to hear he was coming to Y&R as Billy, happy for him and wish Jason lots of luck.
Bye Patrick !!! Good luck with the Billy Abbott character.
it wasn’t exactly gracious of Jason Thompson to ignore that there were two actors who played Billy AFTER Billy Miller (and yes, we know how that went, but still…)
I didn’t read what he said that way. I took it as they work on the same show and have had a chance to talk about it. He’s not currently working on the same set as DT or BJ. I can see what you’re saying though.
Exactly, its just someone trying to start trouble. Your damned if you do and damned if you dont! Jason is a classy guy.
Thank you.
That is exactly what I said, Ashleigh. There was no slam, as someone called it. They worked in close proximity and as it goes, they talked about ‘Billy Abbott’…..what the heck is so ungracious about that? Oh, plaeeese!!!
Thank you, I had posted that earlier.
LOL That’s right!
I don’t think he was ignoring that, he just had access to Billy to get some character history and not the others. Since Billy was the best one anyway, that’s who I would have talked to about the role.
Yes, GB, that rubbed me the wrong way, too… With all these people stating that Jason Thompson doesn’t have the “look” for Billy Abbot, maybe they will dye Jason’t hair blond. Will that suffice?
The guy WORKS with Billy Miller! I’m sure if he was asked about the history of the character he would pay homage to anyone who played Billy before. Holly cow!
HaHa, my friend.
James, always the voice of reason. I had actually suggested to Timmm a while back that I could not picture Thompson with blond hair, lol. Many fans said that this Billy takes after the Fosters. I am eagerly awaiting meeting, yet, another Billy.
Confirmed, and with the rumors, not at all surprising. Welcome to daytime’s #1 drama Jason! I’m not sure you’re right for the role but I thought you were great on GH and will keep an open mind as I look forward to watching you make the Billy Abbott character your own.
I’m not surprised. This was a very predictable outcome.
all one has to do … is go to youtube… and watch scenes from his debut on GH… to know… Jason Thompson has all the prerequisite to bring his Billy to life
Wow! I wish I had watched JT from the time of his debut…
I watched scenes with KM’ Robin… before they became involved… what a dastardly hot shot with swag … forefronting his masculine flirtatious self… manning up
Jason Thompson has been emmy nominated for 5 straight years, with and without KM.
I really think he’s going to run with this and be reenergized… and revitalize his talent
oy! now that i’m thinking about his character… I hope he sparks with Amelia Heinle
Wow, your comment has given me hope, Patrick! He needs to channel that “dastardly hot shot with swag” to make this work!! Ohhhh please, soap gods, let this work!
Could never figure out how Robin tamed him (not a big adult-Robin fan…she’s too holier than thou and serious for Patrick). He needed a bit of humbling down, but he became emasculated.
I agree, pairing him with Robin destroyed the character of Patrick. I loved his early time on GH, and to be honest I never really felt any chemistry between he and KM, so I didn’t get the whole “scrubs” thing anyway.
The early Patrick is definitely Billy Abbott material.
My opinion, he was forgettable until he and Robin hooked up.
So, Patrick, that’s what you meant about Patrick’s machismo. I did not know that Patrick Drake. Now, I understand. So, with that in mind, I do look forward to Jason’s spin on Billy Abbott. I just hope he has the juice to capture Billy’s essence. I will not compare Thompson to Miller. That would not be fair……he is a different entity from Miller; with different nuances and qualities.
Thanks for your reply earlier, CeeCee! Keep up the great work!
@clh: “…The early Patrick is definitely Billy Abbott material. ” without doubt
@Rose : “…he became emasculated ” not going to argue that because it’s true! and it smarts ! ugh! and that’s why I went to you-tube to watch his GH debut and it was all their! THIS MANNED up Woah! has it
@Ashleigh: cute response… soap gods yes indeed…. all the proof is their… from the time of his debut on GH …. 10 years ago….
he sauntered
he swagged
he swooned
10 years have gone by… he’ aged but that doesnt matter… I’ll quote part of CeeCee : he will hone in on his skill… and find that ready character
i’ve defined him as having that it factor and deemed him husband material… and left it at that…
I’m cheerleading Jason Thompson… and want the best for him
Patrick
You are so correct. I feel better about Jason. He can play a good Billy Abbott with his own flair. I was just entertained delightfully by those earlier December 2005 Patrick (arrogant and playboy) and Robin YouTube videos. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Tr4gt9W_J4
Those were the days.
Then that triggered those July and August 2009 Jake Karaoke nights and Lulu and Dominic/Dante days.
Thanks for bringing those days up Patrick. I was concerned as well based on his current character. It will be okay!
April
It’s bad enough that every time I watch old footage of Y&R, I’m watching Jason1 talking to Jason2, but now watching scenes with Patrick and Jason it’s going to be watching Billy Abbott talking to Billy Abbott. Nothing against Thompson, but there are other roles they could have picked for him and they decide to make him play the worst character on the show. If it was my choice, I would have made Thompson play Adam Newman and say that Hartley’s Adam was an imposter that was brainwashed by Adam so he can avoid going to jail and then have Adam reveal himself to his family and watch as the fake Adam or Fadam takes over his life. There would be a two Adam Newman storyline and Adam would have tried to get his life back. Then there would be an episode where Chelsea would have to pick either Gabriel or Adam. As for Billy, i would have the character leave town for a year before recast him!
this is so stupid, i would have respect for him if he was pursuing other work on primetime or movies, but to go to another soap to pay a character thats been played by who knows how many is so pointless, if he left gh because of storyline, it doesn’t make sense why he would join a show equally as crowded, its just suspect, its not like the billy role is a coveted role in soaps, and its not like he needs to make a mark in daytime, cause he already has, so for him to jump ship, i will not follow,so adios to jason/patrick, i’ll miss little emma, hopefully she gets to stay with grandma anna.
He is going there because of his friendship with the EP and maybe he got a sweeter deal to spend more time with his family?
Just my opinion I am an avid fan and faithful viewer of both GH & Y&R, I think Jason Thompson is a great actor however nobody can fill Billy Millers shoes, and the remaining shows should stop with using the same actors over and over in their soap hopping games, it’s exactly the same as recycled writers in order for these soaps to survive bring in fresh talent on & behind the screens.
Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.
He is so far off from who Billy is!
His physical appearance, his seriousness…
but who knows, actually. I hope it can
somehow work. Been through too many
Billy’s these last few years!
Good for him and I hope he does well but I honestly think that Greg Vaughn would have been a better choice. I don’t see any chemistry with Amelia Heinle (but I could be wrong since they have not even aired together yet). I think he will have chemistry with all the Abbott’s and Chelsea (Melissa Claire Egan). I honestly don’t watch Y&R, so I don’t care that much (but I know the actors and characters).
That was actually my thought too, Brian, when I heard that Greg Vaughn was leaving Days: he’d be a good choice to play Billy. (Though I don’t know how he feels about JFP; she was the EP for General Hospital when the show rather unceremoniously dumped GV for Jonathan Jackson, and I don’t know whether he holds her responsible or not.) It might have been smarter to go that route and find another character for Jason Thompson to play. I guess we’ll see how well this works out.
whoa! I was sorta bored, time to waste,,
I read some of the Y&R boards, the JT threads of him playing Billy Abbott..
WOW! most all posted he is a bad replacement, he is not right to be an Abbott, it was another bad casting, he;s way too dark for an Abbott, he is not right for the role, etc etc on it went..
Not many were happy or welcoming with JT coming on as Billy..
I was surprised to read that stuff, really surprised ..
I really hope he will be accepted, he is an awesome actor!!
((the curse.. recasting of Billy is surely cursed!)
Yeah, everyone is saying he doesn’t look like an Abbott and he is too serious but the majority like him enough to want it to work and want to give him a chance. Remember how everyone swore to hate Michael Muhney’s replacement? We soap fans are a fickle bunch. I really hope it works. I wonder how many peope are placing bets right now though.
I agree the previous Billys have all been similar in look and I liked that but I think that JT will fit in nicely with Jack and Ashley who are very hip and sophisticated in their looks.
Maybe the sceptics were Y&R loyalists who never watched GH and never saw the JT potential. And since when is hair color a requirement for the smorgasbord lineage in soaps.
see this is the thing with some soap fans they don’t even give new actors a chance to be on their screen before they start with the negativity which is totally wrong…………………
i watch all four remaining soaps & read the message boards & i see this all the time and that really ticks me off – after one day with a new actor/actress in a role they start posting comments like he/she has got to go…………….unbelievable!!!
I think you may be reading too much into the comments. I’m not sure people who are saying they don’t really see JT in the role are saying they can’t be persuaded. I’m certainly not. He’s extremely talented. He may pull it off. I will definitely give him a chance.
But it’s entirely possible to miscast even a very talented actor, and those of us who have watched soaps for a while have seen it happen often enough to be skeptical sometimes when we hear about casting decisions that seem ill advised. (And at the risk of repeating myself: JFP has had a real problem in this area.)
i agree with what you are saying michael (not fairman) especially about jfp’s problem with miscasting actors……………..
Welcome back to daytime Jason Thompson, I know you will do a wonderful job as the new Billy boy lol. General Hospital are idiots for letting Jason walk away, his contract was up and his storyline went down hill. Good for the Young and The Restless in signing Jason Thompson right away. The man can act and he was robbed again for a Daytime Emmy on GH. Yes he was nominated again and lost. What a joke. The Daytime emmys are a joke. The same people win, over and over.
Kevin, you are absolutely correct about the Daytime Emmys…
What a juicy role to get after the last few years of being mostly in Robin limbo. Good forJason, and good luck stirring it up on Y&R. Will be watching.
WHY do you keep changing people #$##!$$
I can say this much: thank goodness Burgess is out. Please do not castigate me with words. But this guy did nothing for the role of Billy Abbott. All he did was mope and whine. I was actually happy with David Tom; but, when Miller assumed the role, I was ecstatic. Billy Miller nailed the character ….the good, the bad, and the ugly. But, this is not about Miller. I am confident that Jason will hone the character into the Billy Abbot we all seek, in his own special way. I would also like to say that I admire Thompson’s humility, as he regales Miller with that touching compliment….”It’s going to be hard to fill his shoes”. What a guy! I really like that.
I have come to love Jason Thompson. I only hope he will do Billy Abbott justice, albeit I think his looks as an Abbott are all wrong. All Abbotts are fair. He’d be more fitting playing Adam. But, I shall hush ‘me mouth’ and welcome Jason to Y&R……Give us a few great years, Jason, and good luck!!!!! Awaiting with arms open wide!!
“… But, this is not about Miller. I am confident that Jason will hone the character”
I so hope this
can’t help it… like him
I would like to see Burgess on GH as the new Nathan West…just teasing you…lol
rofl
How about casting Kelly Monaco as the new Chloe? WINK WINK!
Imagine that, Timmm. Jason and Kelly: together again! Oh, the irony! Too funny.
Kelly would have to go to ‘Chloe School’ and take a course in spunk and personality, though. She definitely would not last, my Timmmbo.
They WASTED his talent at GH!!!!! I will give Y&R a look now!!!!!
Disappointing… Jill should have took Maurice instead.
WHOA! WHAAAAT???!!!!???!!!
GHFan, by ” Jill should have taken Maurice”, do you mean you wanted Maurice B. play Billy Abbott? Did I read you wrong?
lol
J&S will have poor Sonny in angel wings flying all over spreading his love in angel dust..
So, he might fly his goodwill to GH to bring Billy to life..(good samaritan stuff..
rofl; I thought the same
be serious
rofl; no way!
I’d like to know who JFP “female” bff’ are
Wow… Relax a bit, I have no clue who Billy Abbott is, never watched that show. I was stating that if dragon lady wants to keep taking her former leads I’d rather she take Maurice; could care less what character he plays. Jason you will be missed, best wishes to you buddy!
Can you imagine Victor calling Maurice BILLY BOY!
Oh, okay. I get it, GHFan. You just want Maurice off GH, not caring where he goes. I can certainly understand and identify with that!!
I’m beyond excited!! But please, writers, no more plastic surgery stories for a while!! I promise that we, the audience would prefer “the role of Billy Abbott is now being played by….”
Well, as I stated previously, he doesnt look like an Abbott BUT Jason is extremely talented and he will hold his own with Peter, Eileen and Eric. Plus, I can see him and Amelia having good chemistry. He is more like Billy Miller when you think of the way he charmed people. BUT, as we have seen with GH recently, he tore into Sonny and I can see the same with Victor. Billy Miller is happy at GH and his star will only burn brighter, David Tom didnt grow into the mature version of Billy and Burgess was horrible! He is not a horrible actor and he seems like a good guy but he was NOT Billy Abbott. For that reason alone, I welcome a new Billy. He may not look like an Abbott but Jason Patrick oozes talent and he may just surprises us all. Welcome Jason.
Sorry, too excited, at the end I meant Jason Thompson oozes talent!
But don’t you think he could pass for the Foster side of the family? I mean he does look more like Jill than any of the other Billy’s– reminds me a bit of Jill’s brother Greg- so maybe there isn’t an Abbott resemblance, but he is only half Abbott so like you I am willing to give this a shot. Yet honestly they better write for the character, because having a good actor is only half of the equation, you need to give the actor the words that will make the character shine.
MARY! What an amazing comment! Your right, we tend to look at the Abbotts and never the Foster side. Yes he could easily be Jill’s son. However, where the hell has Jill been? Maybe this will bring her back to the show more often? I am excited to see how this pans out and once again, excellent point Mary!
I think what I’m most excited for are his scenes with the great Peter Bergman, Christian LeBlanc, Jess Walton, Eileen Davidson, Eric Braeden, Melody Thomas Scott and all the other greats. Just a shame Jeanne Cooper isn’t around; she would have LOVED flirting with him and pinching his ass!
Otherwise, I’m meh over the news. I’ve been a long time fan of his. He is the single reason I went from a 10+ year casual GH viewer to someone who ran home to watch his scenes (with Kimberly McCullough) back in 2005 onward (well, until 2010….and then sporadically ever since, though I haven’t watched GH since KMc left again in 2012) I always knew his potential and believed in his talent and feel like everyone else got in on the secret after me lol. But I just can’t see myself running home again everyday again. Y&R never keeps my interest for long.
Jules: if I could toast with; you and @Cathy… just a celebratory ..heck gotta go their… lovefest for this impenetrable couple
a couple who… LIVED a dream.. and is a reality
to know that an HIV asymptomatic person… can share … go their…wherever their heart lived
oh believe you me… the love she held cherished and reached…
Dr. Patrick Drake; Dr. Robin Scorpio-Drake, Emma Drake
long live
Jeanne would have loved that azz!
It will be interesting to see Jason take on this role. However, if they put viewers through another plastic surgery / new face story I will scream. Please just let him appear one day with the voice-over announcement, “The part of Billy Abbott is now being played by Jason Thompson” – and then it’s on with the show!
Ohhhh, do I agree with you!!!

‘General Hospital’s’ Dominic Zamprogna Shares He Was ‘Happy to Hear’ of The Triangle Storyline Developing Between Dante/Elizabeth/Ric

General Hospital’s Dominic Zamprogna (Dante Falconeri) opened up about the burgeoning love triangle forming between his Port Charles alter-go, Elizabeth Webber (Rebecca Herbst) and Ric Lansing (Rick Hearst) after recently aired scenes, plus his hopes for the future of a Dante and Liz pairing, during his appearance on the Sunday, April 23 edition of the That’s Awesome podcast with Steve Burton (Jason Morgan) and Bradford Anderson (Spinelli).
On last week’s episodes of GH, Ric has made the decision that he wanted to propose to his ex-wife, only when he showed up at Elizabeth’s front door, he misread the scenario he walked in with Liz tending to Dante’s injured leg from the softball game. From there, the legal eagle’s jealous streak is reemerging which may cause him to act out and do something unforgivable, or will he take the high road? Stay tuned.
Speaking with Steve Burton and Bradford Anderson about where Elizabeth stands in the annals of the long-running soap, Zamprogna said, “She’s up there with Steve and Maurice (Maurice Benard) as one of the most legacy-filled people on the show.”

HOW DANTE AND ELIZABETH CAME ABOUT
Dominic jokes it’s a far cry for where Dante and Elizabeth previously, recalling, “We had some scenes together years ago and we were both laughing. Becky’s like, ‘Well, I guess we’re not going be paired up anytime soon.’ I remember we laughed immediately after they yelled ‘cut,”‘and said to each other, ‘Well, so much for that!'”
Fast-forward to early 2025 and as Zamprogna remembered it, “Elizabeth Korte (co-head writer, GH) came up to me at the General Hospital Christmas party, and I think it was a year and a half ago and she said, ‘We’re going to have you in scenes with Elizabeth,’ My internal monologue is going, ‘I’m not with Lulu (Alexa Havins) anymore and Sam’s (Kelly Monaco) gone, so maybe they want to see if this works.’ I didn’t want to get scenes with Becky and try to find the chemistry. I just wanted to play whatever honestly was written and came across for both of us and hope it was what people liked, and I don’t know if it is … or not.”
Knowing how beloved Elizabeth is to the GH faithfuls, Zamprogna added, “She got a big fan base with Ric … and a big fan base with with Jason … and you know, you’re going to piss somebody off. But, didn’t Ric drug Elizabeth and put Carly in a panic room?”

DANTE AND ELIZABETH PAIRING COULD STIR UP STORY FOR OTHERS IN PORT CHARLES
In closing, Dominic felt that the wide-reaching tentacles of a Dante and Elizabeth relationship is something he is 100% down for. “The triangle thing; I was happy to hear it was with Ric and her, because I felt it’s important to have her the top of it as opposed to Dante, Lulu and Elizabeth.”
Zamprogna added, “When you get into relationships on a soap, things seem to fizzle out a little bit, The buildup is what’s the fun part, and the getting to know each other, and the people who are affected by this coming together. When with this case it’s going to affect: Ric, Sonny, Lulu. There’s so much more story here. To me, it’s going to be a fun story to play.”
You can check out Dominic’s visit to That’s Awesome with Steve and Bradford below.
Now weigh-in: Are you rooting for Dante and Liz, or Dante and Ric at this juncture of the story, or neither guy for Elizabeth? Let us know your thoughts and picks via the comment section.

GH and OLTL Alum Patrick J. Gibbons Reveals the Story Behind Writing Trina’s Song on ‘General Hospital’ (Exclusive)

At the conclusion of today’s August 21 episode of General Hospital, Trina Robinson (Tabyana Ali) sings a lullaby to baby Dez, that went into a montage to close out the episode as her father Curtis Ashford (Donnell Turner) reports to Pentonville and winds up in his jail cell.
However, in a fun fact, the song entitled, “A Lonely Heart To Give” was actually written by none other than former One Life to Live and General Hospital actor, Patrick J. Gibbons.
Daytime fans first met Gibbons as Sam Manning on One Life to Live. At the time, when he started on the soap, he was just 5-years-old. Gibbons played the part from 2010-2013 on ABC and Prospect Park’s editions of the show. Fast-forward to 2018, Gibbons shows up on General Hospital as Wyatt Hoover, the scout who seemed always be injured, but in the thick of the drama. Patrick had appeared on GH multiple times as Wyatt including: 2018, 2019, 2021, 2022, 2023.

FROM HIS GRANDMOTHER’S DEATH CAME THE INSPIRATION FOR HIS SONG
Now in 2026, General Hospital fans are getting to learn about another side of Gibbons’ talent as a songwriter and guitar player after “A Lonely Heart to Give” debuted today! Michael Fairman TV caught up with Patrick, who is now a senior at Penn State entering his final year as a finance major, to get the back-story of how his song wound up on GH!
Gibbons explained he wrote the song in honor of his grandmother who passed away a few years ago with whom he was, very, very close with. “Randomly, my grandmother had a downfall and passed away during the second semester of my sophomore year. I was in my dorm a lot and I was just playing with my guitar. And at the time, I was really into finger-style playing. I wrote the lyric and music to it (with a little help from my guitar teacher Lou), and my mom showed the rough demo to Frank Valentini (EP, General Hospital). He’s like an uncle to me. Frank loved it so much he said, “Finish that up. I want to hear the whole thing, and I want it on the show.”
MAKING MUSIC FOR GENERAL HOSPITAL
Gibbons and his parents took the next steps! “So now, all we needed was a female voice, because I thought that would fit the song well,” Patrick shared. “At the golf club we go to my parents were at a dinner. They liked the singer that was performing and spoke to her about the song, and she says she would like to bring it to her ‘boss’ who ended up being Eric Bazilian of the Hooters fame!” (Bazilian also wrote the smash hit song “One of Us” for Joan Osborne).
Next, “We went in the studio and recorded it and the song came together and it was beautiful. We loved it. They loved it at General Hospital and now they’re putting it the show and they are coming in with a piano, instead of a guitar. Paul Glass, the GH musical director, has been keeping us updated over the last six months of how it was coming along, and when it would air, and how GH put their own arrangement to it. I can’t wait to see and hear what they did with it.”

PATRICK’S ONE LIFE TO LIVE FAMILY
Everyone knows that the One Life to Live extended family share a very tight bond, and Patrick said he does stay in touch with a few of his former One Life to Live co-stars, especially those from the Manning family! “I stayed in touch with Kassie DePaiva (ex-Blair) and sent her little videos here and there. She was like my second mom for five years. We keep in contact with Kristen Alderson (ex-Starr) over X the most, and she can’t believe how big I’ve gotten. Like, none of them can! (laughs). I also loved working with Roger Howarth (ex-Todd) and Trevor St. John (ex-Todd and Victor Jr.), and to me since I was so young, they were just my friends, ‘Roger and Trevor,’ not Todd Manning or Victor Jr.”
It was a trip to California and a visit to Port Charles that ultimately led to Gibbons second soap role of Wyatt Hoover. Patrick explains, “In 2016, Frank Valentini invited us out to Los Angeles to visit the set of General Hospital. I think he heard me say, ‘This is so much fun. I miss being on the set.’ He goes, ‘You should come out. I’ll bring you on the show. We can make you a character.'”
A few years later, Patrick’s dream became a reality! “Then, by the summer of 2018, I was playing Wyatt, the scout, and shared scenes with Wes Ramsey (Peter August), and the best was when I shared a scene with Roger Howarth and Michael Easton (ex-John, OLTL and ex-Silas, Finn et al, GH), it was like chemistry from the old days.”

IT’S ALL IN THE NUMBERS
As to his future aspirations, it’s a career in the finance game that has piqued Gibbons’ real-life interest. But never say never to a return to acting. Patrick explained, “I’ve always enjoyed numbers. And on top of that, one of the biggest parts of finance is being personable and outgoing.”
He continued, “That’s one of the greatest skills I developed growing up. I really love the markets. I’m super interested. I’m never going to close the door to acting. I’m always open to that because I just love it so much. It’s such a great art.”
Take note! If there are any investment bankers or private equity folks among the GH faithful looking for a young analyst next year, Patrick’s DMs are open. You can find him on X at @PatrickJGibbons.”
So, what did you think of the song sung by Trina on today’s GH that was written by Patrick J. Gibbons? Did you enjoy Patrick’s performances as One Life’s Sam and GH’s Wyatt? Would you like to see him back on GH at some point? Let us know via the comment section.

‘General Hospital’ Alum Chad Duell Admits That He Didn’t Expect the Role of Michael Corinthos to be Recast, and Would Consider Working on Another Soap (Exclusive)

Chad Duell, the Daytime Emmy-winning actor, who stepped away from the pivotal role of Michael Corinthos on General Hospital, opened up about: his previous decision to leave the series after nearly 15 years, where’s he’s at now after time away from the demands of a daytime soap opera, and took a stroll down memory lane with some of Michael’s most-acclaimed storyline during his run, during a livestream chat on August 19 on You Tube’s Michael Fairman Channel.
Viewers last saw Duell on-screen as Michael in January of 2025, and with his successor in the role, Rory Gibson making his debut at the GH Nurses’ Ball in episodes that aired later in May. It was clear that during the conversation, Chad was a bit surprised that the GH brass decided to recast him when he thought he was just taking some much needed time off.
Burn-out of the daily grind of being on a soap was definitely a part of Chad’s decision to take a break. Duell explained “People know when you’re doing something for so long or your character is kind of in the same place for so long or doing the same stuff over and over again, you do get a a little burnt out, you get a little stiff, stale, a little stiff at times. I didn’t want that to be any sort of lasting impression. I have 15 years of a body of work of I’ve done on that show, which is fantastic.”

WHILE CHAD WAS AWAY GH RECAST MICHAEL CORINTHOS WITH RORY GIBSON
Chad shared, his mindset when leaving GH was, “I’m taking some time away, we’ll see what happens.” Then he added, “Obviously, they decided to go in a different direction with Michael when I was gone. I didn’t think they were going to bring somebody back in my place. But you know, it’s the business. You never know what can happen.”
Duell also shared he has not watched a single episode of General Hospital since he left the series, but now feels he reenergized following the loss of his father and stepping away from the GH, “I’m in a place now mentally, where I’m ready to sink my teeth into it again.”

Even though he is no longer Michael on GH, Chad was very happy with his final storyline where Michael was set on fire when a bomb exploded at Sonny’s (Maurice Benard) penthouse. “It was fun to put him in a dangerous situation, because I was wanting Michael to be in something scary instead of trying to be a hero character or just things happening around him, but to be the center point of tragedy happening to him. (I always saw) Michael as the heart of the (Corinthos) family.”
When Michael was badly burned the show chose not burn his face, which normally a soap does when they are recasting role and switching actors. Chad weighed-in, “They didn’t burn my face because I told Frank Valentini (EP, GH) I’m willing to come back. It was just a little bit of a break. So, I assumed that if they would have burned my face, they could have brought somebody back looking different than me… if that’s what their plan was.”

MEMORABLE MICHAEL STORYLINES
One of Chad’s most memorable performances was the in the storyline of Michael’s rape while he was sentenced to prison in 2010 and the confession of it in 2011. “It was so well-written and I was very nervous,” recalled Chad. “When I get really nervous about something, it ends up being really good when I do it, because it just means I care a lot about it”
“I have to put a lot of effort and work into it, and I really want it to be good. I was working with Dominic Zamprogna (Dante) and Steve Burton (Jason) a lot during those scenes, and Laura Wright (Carly). It was great working with Steve and Dominic, especially, during that storyline.
A NEW SOAP ROLE FOR CHAD?
As to a future soap opera role, Chad is open to the idea and would love to jump back in to a juicy role, “I know people over at The Bold and the Beautiful, and The Young and the Restless. They know that if they’re interested, I would love to come in for a screen test or something, and they can see what I’m doing.”
Meanwhile, Chad has been busy putting out new music under the moniker Duelly and during the interview he explains how he creates his EDM tracks and much more. You can stream his latest single, Static in the Quiet Room on Spotify, Apple Music and You Tube Music.
You can check out the full conversation with Chad Duell below.
Now let us know: what show would you like to see Chad cast on down the line? BTG, DAYS, B&B, Y&R, or a new role on GH? What did you think of his thoughts on the casting switch while he was away in the role of Michael? What was your favorite Michael storyline during Chad’s 15-year run on the ABC soap opera?
