CW's Riverdale To Be Soapy With Twin Peaks and Gilmore Girls Influences!

When The CW’s new series Riverdale bows in 2017, it will have a much darker feel to it for the comic book characters readers have fallen in love with!  And according to TV Line, the Greg Berlanti series will be much soapier, too!

New Zealand actor KJ Apa takes on the lead role of Archie Andrews.  And when the cast which includes 90210’s Luke Perry as Archie’s father, and executive producer Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, sat down for an interview at the recent San Diego Comic-Con, they explained that while the series holds “classic coming-of-age stories that you’ve known from 75 years of Archie Comics,” that is also will “explore the secret life of all of these character that you thought you knew.”

There is a murder and a new girl in town in the story too, more reminiscent of Twin Peaks and Gilmore Girls as well!  EP Roberto Aquirre-Sacasa previewed, “The last day of a summer a mysterious girl arrives to Riverdale, Veronica Lodge, and a scandal is following behind her and she kind of walks into Pop’s famous diner in Riverdale right in the middle of a possible date between the characters of Archie and Betty.  So, the love triangle starts there.  While that is happening, over the summer one of the high school kids – this golden boy named Jason Blossom – drowned under mysterious circumstances, and you soon realize everyone is caught up in this mystery.  We used Twin Peaks as a bit of inspiration!”

Watch a promo for CW’s upcoming Riverdale after the jump! Then let us know if this soapy drama has got your interest piqued in the comment section below!

It looks interesting but i tire easily of characters who cheat and lust after each other…the murder mystery might hold my interest but nothing beats the mysteries and crime drama on Edge Of Night!

Qubo the television station has the Archie mysteries from the 90’s..I found that weird but I liked it. .plus the trailer of the show reminds me of the CW’s One Tree Hill. .I think it will be good. .

Growing up in the heart of the 60’s and 70’s The Archies was a Saturday morning fave..my mom even bought us the boxes of cereal where you could cut out the record and play it. We had a Close and Play record player and played “Sugar Sugar” till it broke lol…”you were my candy girllll”…

Its funny, name brand cereals get more and more expensive and you get less cereal, no prizes and the back of the boxes are usually non-eventful! I also cut out a record from the back of the box. It could have been “Sugar Sugar.” Perfect song for a box of “Honeycombs” laced with a ton of sugar!

Why ddoes everything have to be dark? I have waited YEARS for there to be a live action show or feature film about Archie and the gang. They are taking the most wholesome piece of Americana and adding murder and stuff? I am not saying the series has to be as feel good as the 50’s comics! But it would be very cool to see that as a feel good show…either set in a more innocent era, or even set in the present seeing the characters use current technology etc. While I am glad that someone finally had the thought… Read more »

This trailer doesn’t seem anything like the Archie series at all. It seems like they took an * idea* for a series they wanted and plugged in Archie characters to …try and draw in Archie fans and have a built in audience.
Whatever they do with this series in this vein, it isn’t the
Archies. Sorry, producers. You may have a success, but no-go on the appropriation.

The comics recently had a alternate universe comic book storyline where Archie’s life came to an end when he took a bullet that was meant for his friend who was gay so such material can go pretty dark. The twist of the story was that the alternate universe is actually split into two, where Archie is married to either Betty in one world and or Veronica in another, but the stories of both sub-universes run concurrently, essentially the same except for certain scenarios involving Betty or Veronica.

I’d rather see them make a live action version of Afterlife with Archie, where Riverdale is overrun by a zombie apocalypse.

I will give it a try but I will probably hate it! Archie is supposed to be light and fluffy. I’m tired of these remakes that are NOTHING like the originals! So tired of everything so dark and gloomy!

Jimh(leave it to beaver)

Most remakes are horrible…like that Bewitched movie years ago-Nicole Kidman was the perfect choice to play Samantha but the movie was lame and nothing like the tv show…watch-they will do Eight Is Enough as a movie-instead of being about a couple with 8 children they will instead have Mr. Bradford as a bigamist married to 8 wives!-lol

Jim, I loved Bewitched! When I heard they were doing the movie I would have loved Jim Carrey to play Darren. Jim looks like Dick York in a way. Well, it didnt come to fruition and they went with you know who. Nicole is beautiful but not house wifey enough. Ferrel is still popular but way off for Darwood! A big let down!

Your right, it will be “Eight Desperate Housewives are Enough!”

Great minds think alike…i thought Jim Carey as Darren too…also wanted Nathan Lane as Uncle Arthur and Betty White as Aunt Clara..also wanted that neighbor lady on Mama’s Family to play Gladys-the nosey neighbor!!!

Guiding Light

Guiding Light’s Robert Newman Pays Tribute to the Brilliance of Lisa Brown

On Sunday, longtime Guiding Light mainstay, Robert Newman (Ex-Josh Lewis), shared a heartfelt message on his Facebook page on the death of his former co-star, Lisa Brown (Ex-Nola Reardon).

As previously reported, Brown passed away earlier this week at the age of 67 from cancer. She portrayed the beloved role of Nola on the CBS soap opera from 1980-1985 and was front and center in many stories which featured Nola’s antics, fantasies, and of course, her love affair with Quint, the late Michael Tylo.

In his message on Brown’s death, Robert Newman expressed: “I was greatly saddened to hear of the sudden death of the great Lisa Brown. When I first joined the show in 1981, Lisa was pretty much the center of everything. A real whirlwind. Her work with the late Michael Tylo was fantastic. I particularly have fond memories of Nola’s fantasies …Wizard of Oz, Casablanca, etc. I don’t think I was ever a part of those fantasies, but I remember watching them being taped in the studio and she was just amazing.”

Newman goes on to say: “One of my fondest Lisa memories, however, was sitting in the audience at the Winter Garden Theater in NYC watching Lisa head up the cast of 42nd Street with Lee Roy Reams in 1981 or so. It was one of those times when you see a colleague that you know from one genre, Daytime Drama, in an entirely different genre, Musical Comedy, and you are completely surprised and blown away. Again, she was just fantastic in the role and I as a fellow musical comedy performer, I had great, great respect for her. Below is a clip from a television performance of her as Peggy in 42nd Street. Her death at such a young age is a great loss to the daytime community. Love and prayers to her family and friends.”

Michael Fairman TV also shares below the video posted by Robert below, which reminds us of just how multi-talented Lisa was for her fans, the audience, and to all that knew her. On a personal note: “Lisa always performed at the ‘Night of the Daytime Stars’ benefit for AMFAR in New York City during the AIDS pandemic that I created and produced.  It was the annual event held the night before the Daytime Emmys, and she was always willing to lend her support and talents to help others in need.”

Steve Burton and Bradford Anderson Share Disagreement with Each Other Over Vaccine Mandate; Will Continue ‘Stone Cold and the Jackal’ Shows In 2022

On the latest episode of their That’s Awesome podcast with Steve and Bradford, released over the Thanksgiving holiday, General Hospital’s Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) and Steve Burton (Ex-Jason Morgan) took some moments to address how Steve’s decision to not adhere to the ABC and GH Covid-19 vaccine mandate (which caused the two-time Daytime Emmy-winning star to be let go from the show) would affect their live shows, podcasts, content moving forward, as well as if it has caused a riff in their friendship.

When addressing listeners of the podcast, Anderson shared the the two would continue on with their projects, but that he disagreed with Burton’s decision to not follow the GH vaccine mandate.

Photo: Podcast One

Bradford expressed: “If you know us, and know are brand, if you will, it’s built on friendships, and like all friends, we have disagreements.  I disagree with Steve’s decision and he knows that. But over are years of friendships, we have had plenty of discussions about this and other topics, and sometimes we agree and sometimes we don’t, but at the end of the day we are still friends.”

Steve added: “We usually don’t get into decisive things on the show.  Look, I have a right to believe in what I want, and you have a right to believe in what you want, and that’s what makes this country great and we have never been about division.”  In addition, Steve was clear that he has not agreed to any interviews at this time on the subject of his exit, and that he is already moving on, sharing: “I am just grateful for my time at General Hospital and the people and the friendships I have made there, especially with the fans.  I have had an incredible life. Listen, I’m OK. I’m at peace. I ‘m moving forward and I am excited about it.  Like I said in my video, when one door closes, multiple doors open, and that’s what happened already.  I’ve gotten a lot of requests for interviews that I don’t want to do, because I don’t want division … that’s the bottom line.”

Look for Anderson and Burton to hit the road in 2022 and continue with their successful Stone Cold and the Jackal live comedy show and appearances.

What did you think about how Steve and Bradford addressed their disagreement on the vaccine mandate within the podcast? Will you be seeing Steve and Bradford live if they come to your town in 2022? Comment below.
