DANCING WITH THE STARS: Trevor Donovan Redeems Himself All The Way to the Top of the Leaderboard

Photo: Disney+

Halloween night will be remembered as ‘Trevor Donovan’s night’ on this season’s Dancing with the Stars streaming on Disney+.

The former Days of our Lives, 90210, and Hallmark Channel favorite rose from being in the bottom two for the second week in a row after last week’s episode, to delivering the most emotional performance of the night, and landing atop of the leaderboard.

For the ‘Fright Night’ episode, the remaining couples not only danced together, but later participated in a group dance to earn extra points to keep them in contention.

For Donovan’s dance routine with pro partner, Emma Slater, the duo performed a contemporary routine to “Ghost” by Justin Bieber.  Playing on Donovan’s experience as an actor, they told a story through dance, where Donovan played a grieving husband and Slater was his beloved wife who he longs to be with, but who has passed on.  The routine was met with resounding kudos from judges: Carrie Ann, Len, Derek and Bruno, and landed them an almost-perfect score of 39 out of 40.

After the performance talking in the Sky Box to co-host Alfonso Ribeiro, Trevor was overcome to tears discussing how the dance routine touched him and recently lost some people in his life and the routine deeply affected him.

Later in the night, Trevor was the captain on his group dance troupe, “Team Scream” that consisted of his selection of duos: Charli D’Amelio and Mark Ballas, Wayne Brady and Witney Carson and Daniel Durant and Britt Stewart.  The team delivered an innovative routine and also scored a 39 out of 40.  All of this, putting Trevor and Emma as one of the duos in first place for the night.

When it came down to the night’s elimination, Trevor and Emma were safe, while Heidi D’Ameli and Artem Chigvintsev and Jordan Sparks and Brandon Armstrong, landed in the bottom two.  After the judges votes, and with head judge, Len Goodman breaking the tie, it was Jordan and Brandon who left the ballroom, while Heidi and Artem will dance on for at least another week.

What did you think of Trevor’s performances and now being considered a strong contender to receive the Mirror Ball Trophy at the end of the season along with pro partner, Emma Slater? Share your thoughts via the comment section below.  But first, watch Trevor and Emma’s emotional dance from last night’s competition.

This show is about people like Trevor Donovan. A dedicated hard worker, kind and humble person with no dancing experience who grows and improves each week. He won me over.

DANCING WITH THE STARS: Charli D’Amelio and Mark Ballas Crowned Season 31 Champs!

Dancing with the Stars first season exclusively streaming on Disney+ has come to an end with last night’s season finale.

If anything can be said about this season, it’s that it was truly the most emotional and memorable, and featured some of the best dancing and choreography ever on the long-running series. Now the question is, did enough people even watch it on the streamer, or can or will Disney move the ballroom competition back to network TV and ABC next season?  If they do, it will also look a lot different with the announcement of some key departures.

The season finale featured the emotional farewells of head judge Len Goodman, and two-time Mirrorball professional dance champ and mainstay with the show, Cheryl Burke.

Now on to the final night of competition. The couples danced two rounds – the first was the redemption dance, where each couple was tasked with repeating a dance they did earlier in the season – and it’s usually the one they had the hardest time executing. Drag queen extraordinaire, Shangela and her pro partner Gleb, and former B&B star, and Let’s Make a Deal host Wayne Brady and his partner Witney scored 36 out of 40 after round 1.

However, TikTok sensation Charli D’Amelio and Mark Ballas, who performed a Jive, and The Bachelorette’s Gabby Windey and Val Chmerkovskiy, who danced the Cha-Cha, each received perfect scores of 40 from the judges, and their routines were just stunning in the process.

Later in the night, it was one last chance for the couples to impress the judges and the viewers at home with their freestyle routine.  Everyone’s freestyle was off the hook, but none more so than Charli and Mark, who danced and told the story of losing their love of dance and then re-capturing it.  It had everything: the Waltz, the Tango, the Quickstep, tap dancing, lifts and more. Kudos to the brilliance of Ballas for his choreography, and the choice of song “Us Again” by Pinar Toprak.

Gabby and Val played up Windey’s sex appeal and strength with a number choreographed to “Cell Block Tango” from Chicago, Wayne and Witney brought the throwback funk with a routine to a mashup of Bruno Mars “24K Magic” and Ciara ft Chamillionaire’s “Get Up”.

The final dance of the season was a drag queens and entertainment delight when Shangela, and Gleb (now in drag as his alter-ego, Natasha) gave a fierce glitz and glamour performance to “Survivor” by Destiny’s Child and Rupaul’s “Call Me Mother”.

Before the results were revealed, host Tyra Banks said that this season there were the most votes ever in the history of the show. (Problem is, there has been no data provided by the streamer to know how many viewers have actually watched the show on Disney+).

Here is how it played out after the nationwide vote combined with judges scores: fourth place went to Shangela and Savchenko.  Third place went to Brady and Carson.  In second and runners-up were Gabby and Val.  So as predicted, Charli and Mark are named the champions and the Mirrorball trophy winners!

DANCING WITH THE STARS Season Finale: Who Will Win The Mirror Ball Trophy? (Poll)

It all comes down to tonight! After weeks of competition, four celebrity contestants and their pro partners, will have one last opportunity to earn the judges and the viewers votes at home on the season finale of Dancing with the Stars.  The two-hour finale streams on Disney+ beginning at 8pm EST/5PM PST.

Let’s Make a Deal host, and former ‘Bold and the Beautiful’ star Wayne Brady, (Ex-Dr. Reese Buckingham) will vie for the Mirror Ball Trophy against TikTok star Charli D’Amelio, RuPaul’s Drag Race favorite Shangela, and former ‘Bachelorette’ Gabby Windey.

Throughout the season, D’Amelio has proven to be the consistent frontrunner and it has been noted by DWTS judges: Len, Carrie Ann, Derek and Bruno, that her routines with her pro partner, Mark Ballas have been some of the best ever in the 31 seasons of the series.  Charli’s huge following on TikTok is also a factor in getting the most votes to take home the top prize.

Meanwhile, Gabby Windey and her pro partner Val Chmerkovskiy have given Charli and Mark a run for their money all season long.  Will ‘Bachelor Nation’ have a strong showing tonight and overcome D’Amelio’s legend of followers on social media?

Solid as they come is Wayne Brady.  The actor/singer/dancer is coming off last night’s gig as the host of the American Music Awards and has earned his spot in the finals with pro partner, Witney Carson (who also made a cameo in the opening number of last night’s AMA’s with Brady).

Finally, Shangela is bringing in the LGBTQ voters as the first draq queen to ever appear on Dancing with the Stars in competition. Last week, Shangela boasted how Lady Gaga was encouraging fans to vote for Shangela and her pro partner, Gleb Savchenko.  Could Shangela have the votes to knock off D’Amelio or Windey?

During tonight’s season finale, the remaining couples will dance twice to impress the viewers at home and the judges with the ‘Dancing’ title on the line.

Now, vote in our DWTS poll below.  Who do you think will win the Mirror Ball Trophy and why? Will it be Charli, Gabby, Wayne or Shangela?   Let us know your thoughts in the comment section,

DANCING WITH THE STARS: Two Couples Exit Semi-Final, Len Goodman Announces Departure

If you have not been watching Dancing with the Stars 31st season on Disney+, it’s really too bad.  The long-running celebrity ballroom-competition series finally got the ‘lift’ it needed, literally, with picking contestants from all walks of life that delivered the drama, inspired, and kept the show interesting.

While DWTS was moved off of the ABC network primetime line-up to streaming for this iteration, there has been little word on just how the show is doing in terms of viewers/streams, which may not bode well for its future.

On Monday night, it was the semi-finals, and when the smoke cleared two couples were sent home and both duos were fan favorites for different reasons.

When it was time for the results, it was former Days of our Lives and 90210 star, Trevor Donovan and his pro partner, Emma Slater. who were the first couple eliminated. Throughout the competition, Donovan made it clear that he had never danced before.  Time and time again, Donovan was able to continue to make it through and improve his dancing skills.

During the semi-finals, Trevor and Emma first danced a Cha-Cha, and in the second round danced a Viennese Waltz. Both times, the judges seemed to indicate that they appreciated Trevor’s efforts and hard work, but he was going against celebrities that had more dance experience, which would ultimately figure into his exit.

The second couple eliminated were CODA star, Daniel Durant and his pro partner, Britt Stewart.  Durant, who has been so awe-inspiring, showing the world that one can dance without hearing a sound, and wanting to show deaf people that anything is possible, performed a beautiful Viennese Waltz.  Later, Daniel and Britt performed Samba, which is one of the hardest dances for anyone to do, let alone for Daniel.  Durant was astounding keeping to the beat.

It all came down to who the judges would save, when it was revealed that Daniel and Britt, along with Shangela and Gleb were the two other lowest scoring couples, after Trevor and Emma.  One would be sent home.  In the end, judges Bruno, Derek and Carrie Ann saved Shangela and Gleb, thus ending the phenomenal run of Daniel and Britt.

But there was more – during the beginning of the second hour, head judge Len Goodman announced he was stepping away from Dancing with the Stars and next week’s finale would be his last.  Len has been with the series since 2005.

In his statement, Goodman explained: “It’s been a huge pleasure to be a huge part of such a wonderful show.  I cannot thank you enough, the DWTS family. It has been such a wonderful experience for me. I’m looking forward to next week’s finale. I’m sure it’s going to be absolutely brilliant.”

Len went on to share, he wants to spend more time with his family and grandchildren back in the U.K., which was the impetus for his decision to depart DTWTS.   You can watch Len’s announcement below.

So, what did you think about Trevor and Emma and Daniel and Britt being eliminated?  Will DTWTS be the same without Len? Share your thoughts in the comment section.
