Daniel Goddard Confirms Exit From The Young and the Restless

In shocking news on Tuesday from Daniel Goddard (Cane Ashby) himself, the actor has revealed via his post on Instagram that he is out at The Young and the Restless – the show that has been his home since 2006 (he first aired in January 2007 and left for a stint in 2011).

Goddard shared: “It is with a heavy heart that I share the news that I will no longer be part of the cast of the Young and the Restless. I am as shocked and gutted as you are… I almost didn’t post but I felt that the most loyal & loving fans an actor could wish for deserved to know and watch the last story arc knowing the rich meaning behind it. I am forever grateful for the 13 years I have been a part of the Y&R family… but sadly it seems that without Neil and Lily there just is no Cane.”

Daniel refers to the late Kristoff St. John who played Neil and his former on-screen other-half, Cristel Khalil (Lily) who opted to go to recurring status with the show and off-contract, and who also now lives in Toronto.

No final airdate for Cane’s exit from the series is available at this time.

This wasn’t the first time Goddard was let-go from Y&R.  Back in 2011 he made an exit, but amid much viewer protest, Y&R re-hired him, and in story, revealed that the character who had been shot was actually Cane’s not-so-nice twin brother.

Currently in story on Y&R is this news over Katherine’s fortune, where it appeared that she left everything to Cane instead of Devon, but that whole set-up has been fishy from the start. Will this facilitate Cane’s exit from Genoa City canvas?

Daniel has been a longtime fan favorite and champion of Y&R and the soap opera genre in general during his entire run with the CBS Daytime soap opera.

Barbie Reeves really? Because Devon got that shot gun and KABOOM blew Caine off the set with smoke coming out of both barrels . Devon said..You ain’t stealing my money mf

It really does feel like the character has run out of possibilities. I love the actor and wish Daniel the best, but won’t miss the character on the show.

Thank the universe he’s leaving!!! Never liked Cane much less Daniel! This news made my day!

This is a very stupid move

You will be missed Daniel but since Lilly is gone it’s seems they never made your character exciting anymore.

Daniel Goddard seems like a really nice guy and I wish him the best, but yeah, it’s time for Cane to go.

I’m gutted as well. I’ve always enjoyed Daniel’s acting, and he’s such an asset to the show. I’m tired of the revolving door. Established actors that we’ve grown to love over the years get pushed out for new people and bad stories.

Like Daniel Goddard remarked without the Winters family, there is no Cane Asby. The current story arch, now putting Cane A., under the microscope and the delusional storyline with Katharine Chancellor’s will is straight out of left field. For what purpose does this serve? This Is totally crap!!!I will not watch one minute of the new dribble, along with, poor Devon now having to relive and cold with the new Amanda/Hilary returned from the ashes with The same mannerisms, body language as his dead wife, now a lawyer doing the bidding for some mouthpiece from the past, or so we are now.being lead to believe someone who has an ax to grind from Ms.Chancellor’s will, winding get his due process and share? this is totally worthless, and not worth viewing. I will never watch this mess. Should this dribble continue the days of this soap will be numbered, only to be replaced per the already started rumors of a ‘B or A ‘ list so called child actress now talk show with a variety of views and viewers /fan base Drew B., a actress whose claim to fame was being a child in E.T., Producers take note, the current writers are carving out the demise of this once great show and serving us over done poached eggs.

So perfectly said!

Too bad. Now Devon will be kinda on his own, although he does have cousin Nate. They could have paired Cane up with someone else. Don’t know why they stopped Traci and Cane together. Why not? It would have been interesting.

Why is he shocked?? Someone finally showed him the door he is the one who kept throwing tantrums about being paired with CK and what was ever interesting about them ? Instead of being thankful for a job and two different storylines were pitched and he with his ego trashed them. Bye

Per some reliable sources (although never made public), Beth Maitland (Traci) liked the story idea. Howver, Daniel Goddard (Cane) hated the idea and went so far as to tell TPTB that he did NOT want to play that story out. Fortunately, a lot of fans didn’t warm up to the story and it was abruptly ended.

After that, Daniel was sidelined for around 8+ weeks until the Katherine’s questionable will story started.

If true, he should have just gone with it. I was warming up to it and then it ended. Whiplash.

For the characters of Traci and Cane to be supportive and good friends was great the reason I would not have thought a romance would work is because Colleen and Lilly were best friends . DG’s rabid fans trashed Beth all over the place and he allowed it and never once spoke up to tell everyone of the nuts to treat her with some respect ! I believe she was the first actress to win a Emmy for the show he should have stepped in and yes he got tiring with me a long time ago.

Y & R don’t get rid of Cane (Daniel Goddard). He is always so pleasant to watch.

Time for him to go. Very painful to watch, his acting sucks big time, good riddance.

Another massive error by Y&R (Josh Griffith). Cane was interesting before Lily and her unfortunate family dragged him down. He can be interesting once again. Instead of bringing on deadly boring and pointless characters such as Elena, Tessa, Theo, and various Rosales’s; veteran actors should be given better storylines and acting partners.

Lily and Cane never made sense. He was in his forties and she was barely out of her teens. Then suddenly she has children close to her own age.

Y&R needs to surgically remove it’s cranium from it’s present dark location, before the audience gives up on it.

The character had been boring for a long time, it is long due. I actually thought Cane and Lily should have been rested a while back. A pity they couldn’t have left together. the downward slide started when the writers aged their kids too fast, then they had Cane father a child of a character that wasn’t memorable, no relation to anyone and has been killed off. What was the outcome of the Tracey? Cane thing. Did he ever find out her feelings? (I really hope someone will answer me)

The way the story wrapped up was Cane began to feel attracted to Tracey, and she was the one who did the 180 and said they should just be friends– and that was that.

Thanks for your reply. Strange that Cane started to be attracted to her. She’s hardly his type.

I, for one, will not miss Cane. He is pointless now with Lily and his kids gone.
Face it, Y&R has written very few decent storylines for their black actors recently. Case in point…everything they are doing to Devon right now. Hopefully they will clean up the ‘will mess ‘quickly and move on.

A good man but not needed on Y&R. But honestly, I just wish it were Devon! You talk about a guy that is not needed and cannot act, its Devon! His dad is gone, sister and they have a fake Hillary. PLEASE!

Not too surprised. He hasn’t been utilized that much lately. Wishing him all the best.

Suggestion – Instead of shoving Adam down our throats, why not give storylines to Mariah, Lauren and Christine? And Jack, as well, instead of the let’s see who isn’t an Abbott now! I had so much hope the new writer(s) would revitalize the show, but I am not enjoying it! They brought back Michelle Stafford as Phyllis, so do something with her, instead of making her Adam’s groupie!

I agree. I can take or leave the new Adam. Lets use all the mega talent you mentioned!

I do think Cane Ashby has been written into a corner. I am not sure the character ever revived from the adultery story line that grew out of that Japan trip. The way Hilary was killed off with Lily taking the fall were more nails in the coffin. (Why did Lily go to jail when Newmans never do?) Writers tried to give Cane parents, siblings, stories, but seem now clueless. It is a shame for I like Daniel Goddard very much. If we still had Katherine Chancellor or Jill Abbott was more present or Lily came home to stay or the rapidly aging twins stayed in Genoa City, then maybe. They took everything away from Cane. I hope there is a positive sendoff.

I agree that this character has run it’s course. Time for Daniel to move on.

Oh Yea! Never liked the character. For one, I could not stand him jumping his wife’s bones every chance he got. I guess it was supposed to be romantic, and maybe to some viewers it was, since they were voted No.1 couple many times, but to me he looked and acted like a letch! He always had a sneaky look to me and a smile I wanted to slap off.Devon sure said it right today when he said that Katherine leaving the money to any other family member or beloved friend, but Cane makes no sense at all.
Also did not like the pairing of Cane and Traci. He was not worthy of her.

Good Riddance. His character should have stayed dead in 2011.

I have seen wonderful actors come and go on the young and the restless, I’m very disappointed at the fact that loyal viewers have to leave the show because of idiotic storyline. So when the writers were replaced and new blood came in I was so happy, then came back Chloe,Kevin, Chelsea,I read Gloria is coming back. But then we lost lily, Ashley, cane, we got Lola,Rey, Arturo, Nate, what are you thinking I loved the fact that cane and Lili fought hard to be together they fell into temptation at times under bad influence but managed to work together we also lost the twins canes baby, Paul then after 1 year Paul is back rairly, Nicki and Victor have gone thru hell and back different husbands and wives but always came back to each other, you don’t have to loose cane Ashby, the best thing to do is keep him split the wealth of Katherine’s will, and have cane and Devon use there assets to become a huge company that helps people, jobs, homes it would be awesome, if they can bring back a dead person surely they can keep cane no love interest just a person who wants to do good for everyone including himself please don’t let cane go!! I have been watching y& the restless for 30 years I have expressed my feelings before to no avail. You will loose me as a viewer, please keep cane he is a great person, humanitarian, and actor. No Cane, no long viewer anymore.. Angie Egan loyal young and restless fan.

Love CanecAsby hope you come to GH.

Gosh, I sure don’t want him at GH, then I might have to stop watching.

Bye Daniel Goddard…bye Y&R. I’m down to watching Y&R once or twice a week because the show is packed mostly with characters, actors and storylines I just don’t like. I loved Traci and Cane’s story and wished it had continued. I like Traci and Jack writing the family history. That’s it. I never liked the characters of Adam or Chelsea; I absolutely hate Michelle Stafford as Phyllis;not a fan of Victor, Paul, Christine. I hate high hopes when Mal Young brought the Rosales family to GC. Obviously bringing back l old characters or characters back from the dead was not the ratings bonanza they thought it would be. Time to change writers again. My suggestion for writer is Michael Malone.

You are so right about JG going back in time but I think that they have had so many different visions of the show I thought they might be able to pull it back in ! If I was going to bring Adam back it would have been Muhney and write a story that JH version was a imposter and Adam had been held captive and he was furious with his family etc etc but because of the way Muhney left it was not possible.

I wanted to see him more involved with Tracy
Kind of a great way to go f eh I’m lily to her

Y&R needs NEW writers! I have watched this show since it’s very beginning and use to enjoy it but it has become lost in bad writing. They had a good thing going for years and now the writing is all over the place, it doesn’t make sense and some really bad acting is standing out. SAD!

Amen!

Sad to see Daniel leave, but sometimes it is just time. He was great while here.

Rosie O’Donnell Says She Will Return to ‘The View’ During its Season 30

Published

By

Rosie O'Donnell

Rosie O’Donnell revealed that she plans to head back to a seat at the table of ABC’s morning talk show The View.

The announcement came during Monday’s episode of The Tangle Podcast where she shared she will participate in “in whatever way they want” her or “just as a guest” for its upcoming 30th season.

The View’s season 30 will kick-off this fall in September. O’Donnell explained, “They’re bringing back all the hosts, I think. And, you know, I’m pretty proud of that show, what it’s become and how it really speaks to the people and to politics.”

ROSIE ON HER PREVIOUS GO-ROUNDS ON THE VIEW

As fans of The View know, O’Donnell famously had two different one-year stints on the talk show in 2007 and again in 2014- 2015. She often feuded with then co-host Elizabeth Hasselbeck.

However, during her discussion with host, Kyle Ridley on The Tangle Podcast, O’Donnell also noted she often had tense moments with longtime moderator and anchor, Whoopi Goldberg.

O’Donnell also expressed, “Many, many people got the short end of the stick there. It was, you know, it was a factory where people were being churned in and out and their tenuous security, nobody got to be calm. It also was a show at the time that was run by a man. A show created by a woman, for women, about women, and the man was deciding what we should talk about. And that didn’t sit right with me, you know.”

Back in 2023, Brooke Shields had asked Rosie on her podcast, Now What? with Brooke Shields, about how she felt on her two stints at The View and all the controversy that surrounded it. Rosie at that time, stated, “I know this, it’s not the best use of my talent to get in a show where I have to argue and defend basic principles of humanity and kindness. It was not something I’d ever do again.”

You can check out the clip with Rosie and Kyle Ridley discussing her return to The View in some form for its upcoming 30th season below.

Then weigh-in: Would you be excited to see Rosie, even for a one-day or a week guest stint on the upcoming celebratory season of The View, or not so much? Let us know via the comment section.

Television Academy and NATAS Open Reunification Talks After Split Almost 50 Years Ago

Published

Emmys

In what could prove to be a massive shake-up ahead, both the TV Academy (ATAS), who presides over the Primetime Emmys, and the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS), who preside over the Daytime Emmys, are in exploratory reunification discussions to merge the two organizations into one.

Both sides received an overwhelming vote and support from their boards to evaluate what a unified Academy could look like. However there is no formal calendar at this juncture for the discussions. In addition, because of the ongoing unification talks that should occur, the TV Academy board has voted to extend all current sitting Governors’ terms by one year so they can see the process through.

Boards at both organizations voted overwhelmingly to evaluate what a unified Academy could make possible: a strong vision for the Academy’s future, more effective thought leadership for the industry, broader service and support for members coast-to-coast, and new momentum and opportunities across the full complement of national Emmy competitions.

Photos: ATAS/NATAS

AFTER NEARLY 50 YEARS, CAN THE EMMYS BE UNDER ONE BANNER?

In a joint statement, ATAS and NATAS shared, “Television remains the most powerful medium we have to shape culture and prompt conversations that define us—no matter the size of the screen, With the business of television undergoing such a monumental transformation, this is the right moment to explore a reunification of our Academies, providing our members and our industry with a bolder voice advocating for them and a stronger partner to navigate the future with them.”

If the reunification talks continue, this would be the first time since the two Emmy organizations split back on June 30, 1977 that they have tried to come together, all of this after almost three decades of often uneasy and strained tension between the two.

The most recent joint change came in 2022 when a move of the game show categories went from NATAS to ATAS’ and now are in the Primetime Emmys.

Deadline notes that a unification of the two television academies who overall preside over nighttime and daytime programming would be similar how SAG and AFTRA used to represent performers from completely different dayparts of work.

Could the Daytime Emmys finally see some love in primetime and have their major categories televised as part of the annual kudofest every September? Stay tuned.

Meanwhile, the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards ceremony will take place live on Monday, September 14th starting at 8:00 p.m. ET / 5:00 p.m. PT and air on NBC and stream on Peacock emanating from the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles. While, the 53rd annual Daytime Emmy Awards will take place on Friday, October 30, time to be announced, live from the Hollywood Palladium and will be streamed on watchtheemmys.tv

The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) is a service organization dedicated to the advancement of the arts and sciences of television and the promotion of creative leadership for artistic, educational and technical achievements within the television industry. It recognizes excellence in television with the coveted Emmy Awards for News & Documentary, Sports, Daytime and Children’s & Family programming, as well as achievements in television Technology & Engineering.

The Television Academy (ATAS) strives to shape and advance the dynamic television landscape; cultivate a diverse, inclusive and accessible professional community; and advocate for the television industry while capturing the spirit of a new generation of content creators and industry professionals. Through innovative programs, publications and events, the Academy and its Foundation foster and empower storytellers. The Academy also celebrates those who excel in the industry recognizing their achievements through awards and accolades, including the renowned Emmy Award. Membership in the Academy is open to working professionals in the television industry.

So, would you like to see the Primetime Emmy and the Daytime Emmys fold into one show if the two unions reached a unification arrangement? Do you hope that after almost 50 years, the two organizations can finally make some serious headway? Share your thoughts via the comment section below.
