DAYS 50: Deidre Hall On Iconic Satan Storyline: "I Was Called Upstairs And Told I Was Going To Be Possesed By The Devil, And Levitating Above The Bed!"

Two of Days of our Lives most recognizable names, Deidre Hall (Marlena) and Lauren Koslow (Kate) kicked off an exciting media blitz by the long-running NBC daytime drama series about to turn 50 years old!

Days of our Lives: 50 Years, the latest book by the series co-executive producer, Greg Meng is set for release on October 27th.  To celebrate the book and the soaps golden anniversary, many of the cast members are headed across the country in various cities for a book signing, where fans can get up close and personal, and purchase their own copy of DAYS history.

Monday in Los Angeles on the KTLA Morning News with entertainment guru Sam Rubin, the ladies of Salem discussed: what formula has made the show so special for so long, their storylines and on-screen marriages, and learning the dialog so fast including those meaty monologues.

Deidre recalled how she learned about the now iconic demonic posession storyline.  She related to Rubin, “I was called upstairs and was told I was going to be possessed by the devil, and levitating above the bed!”  Deidre added that her reaction was that of: “Okay fine, just do it in good taste.”

Watch Deidre and Lauren discuss being part of the action in Salem after the jump! Then weigh-in:  Was Marlena’s possession one of your all-time favorite storylines on DAYS?  Would you like to see something outrageous happen in the coming months in Salem as a nod to those wild storylines of the past?  Comment below!

Deidre is still so beautiful!!!!!!!!!!

Some of those wild moments were actually entertaining but they are also the reason most of Hollywood looks down on soaps and campiness wears thin after so long-thatas why Dark Shadows didnt last long…i prefer more realistic down-to-earth drama Bill Bell and Pat Falken Smith used to write for this show that got Days on the the cover of Time Magazine…those were the Days!

Yes, I agree. Pat Falken Smith was such a great writer. She truly understood the genre.

I do understand what you are saying but that’s what makes DAYS so fun. I watch This Is Us for my realistic down-to-earth drama.

hha!
Days had a devil! A DEVIL !
and- possession by the devil, and levitating above the bed !
Well daham! that is better than GH’s Aliens!

OK- I want a GH devil .. 0oohh and a voodoo Exerosit !
It’s only fair that GH gets the good stuff, too!

Wha-a-a-T?

Off topic…. I so wish Alison Sweeny would stay as Sami! Love her!

Deidre added that her reaction was that of: ”Okay fine, just do it in good taste.”

ROFL. That was some real shark jumping

My bad, it came up when I refreshed the page.

I love this! I hate that Lauren is cut off from the camera, who let that happen? But this does look fun, this Sam guy seems so great and into it more than anyone. He seems really cool.

Marlena has been a force on DOOL for 30+ years. I remember her coming on after Laura Horton, Amanda Peters and Julie Williams were the main leading ladies. I thought she was one of the most beautiful woman I had ever seen. I think Marlena’s best storyline was when she was getting to know Roman (Wayne N) while he was protecting her from the Salem Strangler. I also loved her storyline with Don Craig, the storyline when DJ (her baby) died of crib death and all of her angst scenes with Sami through the years.

I remember when Lauren took over the role from Deborah Adair. I knew LK’s work from B&B, but I loved DA in the role. But, it didn’t take me long to realize Lauren is a powerhouse actress and deserves MORE recognition on the show. I like her storylines with family and romance. I am not fond of many of her scenes in a corporate environment (Nicole, Theresa) because I think she looks like she could eat them alive. I would love for the show to cast a family member for Kate, such as a sister. Since Kate and Sami are no longer enemies, Kate needs someone to mix it up with. I am still hoping for a romance with Justin.

Correction: “one of the most beautiful women I had ever seen.” I hate bad grammar. LOL

Yes, I loved Wayne Northrup! Does he not act anymore?

I wish they’d done a decent funeral for Will.

Both women are so incredibly gorgeous. I remember being in high school on summer vacation and first tuning into Days watching this storyline. It was funny and interesting at the same time.

I love Deidre Hall, she is still a beautiful lady. I want Marlena to be poccessed by the devil again. I hope they revisit the storyline. In 1995 when Marlena was poccessed it brought record ratings, I hope they do it again. The ratings would hit the roof. lol. I loved the devils lines, poor Marlena girlfriend you are a mess, you need some rest. I wouldn’t count on getting it LOL. I still no the lines off by heart lol. I am obsessed with Days of our Lives and a big fan of the soap. I want Wayne Northrop to come back as Roman Brady. Josh Taylor is not the real Roman Brady. sorry that’s how I feel.

The “Satan” storyline is the only time I really enjoyed the Marlena character. Yes, Deidre Hall is beautiful, but with all the Botox and fillers, she is unable to portray any emotions. I had to laugh when Will died and her face never changed when she was “attempting” to cry. I understand women in Hollywood wanting to keep their youthful appearance, but it can go too far. When you can’t even frown, that is a problem for an actress.

I hate to say it, but I agree completely. Her scenes are flat – there’s no “real” emotion. I think she’s very pretty, but I am never moved by her performance. Regarding Will’s funeral, I wasn’t overly impressed with anyone’s acting although most of it was passable. The fact that it was another “outdoor park scene” proved to be dramatically counterproductive. It didn’t seem realistic to me at all, I expected to be impressed by the so-called histrionics usually emanating from the character of Sami, but even that didn’t meet expectations.
If anything, and I don’t mean to play favorites, I was more moved when Eve clung to her daughter Paige’s body in the morgue and really cried. That scene, I found very compelling and believable.

Sadly DOOL is at an all time low and I will be one of the viewers that will stop watching. Eve’s last episode will also be mine. I will throw a watching party to say good bye. I just can’t do it anymore.

I agree with the earlier post regarding Deidre’s best story being her early romance with Wayne – not only one of Days’ best couples ever, but THEY put Days on the map as far as having a supercouple who could compete with other shows. They paved the way for Bo & Hope, Steve & Kayla, Shane & Kim, etc. Her character is iconic, but it changed after Roman’s exit from the show… she became more hardened and less soft. While I love Drake, and their romance has spanned many years….it is not the same. He would have relationships in between, and always seemed to be drawn to others. Roman was a one-woman man. Marlena let passion turn to obsession, and did her relationship with Roman such an injustice. The show was never the same for me after that, and I have watched for 35 years. Just my opinion.
