Days Of Our Lives
DAYS Alison Sweeney: "I'd Want My Epitaph To Be, 'Ali Sweeney: She Worked Hard!'"

Courtesy/NBC
Alison Sweeney (Sami) has been burning down the house on Days of our Lives in recent weeks with some of her best performances in her extraordinary two decade plus career on the NBC soap opera!
The fan favorite departed the series following her last tape day on May 23rd to devote time to being a more full-time mom to her children, and to concentrate on other aspects of her very busy career including: her hosting gig on The Biggest Loser, her novels including her latest book, Scared Scriptless and directing! Alison is said to be directing over at General Hospital filling in for one of the directors.
PEOPLE.com chatted with Alison about life after soaps, and putting her family first at this time in her life when she is one of the most fearless, hard-workers out there! Alison revealed: “I’ve always been willing to work hard. I love what I do, and I’m passionate about it. I’d want my epitaph to be ‘Ali Sweeney: She worked hard.'”
What do you think about what Alison would like her epitaph to read? We would certainly agree that it would be a great choice given all that she has accomplished in her life! Have you been enjoying Alison’s recent scenes as DAYS Sami continues to inflict her revenge on Abigail (Kate Mansi) and EJ (James Scott)? Let us know!
The Sami’s revenge on Abigail and E.j. is an emmy winning for A.S.,performance(the others were good too) and i loved it…it was a good five ‘DAYS’ there but now im ready for the revenge part of the plot to be done and move on…
I agree Alison Sweeney’s performances during the week were Emmy worthy..I love DAYS but the one thing about the show that irks me, is the stories drag on and on..I hope we get a satisfying finish to this storyline without it lingering till fall.
I would rather it take longer to tell a story than have quick stories with very little depth…just sayin!
And Jordans story is the one that really drags…hope it picks up soon…and i too hope Sami’s story has a satisfying finish!!!
Maybe Kristen kidnaps Danial so E.J. can take his place…E.J has cosmetic surgery to look like Danial to avoid past crimes and because he doesnt have medical knowledge he leaves the hospital to work for Victor…to take over Victors business and all his money after Sami leaves him penniless! Then as Danial he decides to make a play for Abigail as E.J./Danial is really attracted to her after all…real Danial escapes Kristen and comes face to face with fake Danial in the Horton Square in front of Jen, Maggie, Victor with both men claiming to be the real Danial Jonas…wouldnt you just love two Danials living in Salem…lmfao!!!
Sami has never been my favorite character. I have always thought that she was very immature, which is why I never bought into someone like EJ Dimera being involved with her. But, I think that the writers are doing a good job at going through the emotions of someone being cheated on and humiliated-the shock, anger, sorrow, etc. I agree, Jordan’s story is beyond boring. Are we to believe that her BIG secret is that she stole some money and ran off with her brother to protect him? How boring.
I’m sure there’s a lot more to the Jordan and Ben storyline. It will all be revealed in due time.
I agree with you to a certain degree dmr, but I think the writers are taking Sami’s “anger” a bit too far. I had previously posted that I don’t know how I would have reacted had my husband cheated on me. Sami is well within her rights to wield her “weapon” of payback against both EJ and Abigail. But, this has become an obsession and a thirst for revenge which is not very becoming, nor is it apropos for someone of Sami’s “loose” past. EJ and Sami knew each other’s shortcomings, including their frail sense of fidelity. So what is she carping about? Because it was done to her? She could cheat on her mate, but watch out if the same is done onto her. No one crosses Sami? I am no fan of Abbi…frankly, I do not like her much. However, Sami is being made out to be a regular old biddy…..a virago. That just isn’t Sami. That’s more like Julie. What gives? Is it to ease our pain in watching her exit, lol? Why make the audience hate her? I am not liking Sami very much right now…, I hate this behavior.
Please writers, allow Sami to walk out with dignity and integrity. As it is, she is losing whatever self-respect she has.
No Michael. I hate that Ali’s last months are wasted on this story. Both Ali & James deserved better story with more competent actors.
Ali has been turning in extraordinary performances, one after the other. She’s been phenomenal. She’s taken a story that was a horrible slap in the face to her (and to James Scott) and turned it into one more memorable Sami story. As Ali said, she was handed lemons and she proceeded to make margaritas out of them. While I’ll never forgive Days for this story and for the destruction they dealt to EJ, Sami, and EJami, I will always remember Sami’s heart breaking over what should not have been.
I’m going to miss seeing my girl Sami – thank heaven for you tube – but I’ll be following Ali wherever she goes and cheering her on.
Go Sami! Go Ali!
Work hard!
really getting sick of anything sami and ej. Sami’s best pairing ever was Sami and Lucas, the scheme team. I just want ej and sami gone at this point. yes I am a hater and will never ever change my mind so lets not go there, shall we?
I think Ej’s best pairing was Nicole, she was the prefect Dimera wife.
I am not enjoying sami’s revenge as she is taking it to far and will proably just end up back with her lying cheating rapist anyways.
Both are leaving, and EJ is before Sami…I think he is going to die by the way and Sami will move away.
You are not alone…i always liked Sami with Lucas…and Nicole with E.J.,…it shouldve been E.J. cheated on Nicole with Sami and then Sami and E.J., runs off together…imo!!!
EJ did cheat on Nicole with Sami—that is what broke them apart, when Rafe told Nicole who was married to EJ that Sami and EJ had slept together the day Johnny disappeared and they thought he died. Nicole left EJ only to soon find she was pregnant with his baby and convinced Rafe to claim to be the baby’s Daddy. And Sami and EJ did end up together after their marriages blew up– so in a way your story idea did happened, so that should make you happy.
Thanks Mary…you are correct…i dont know why i can remember Days plot from 40 years ago…like when Phylis planned to shoot Julie but by mistake shot her own daughter Mary but then i almost forgot E.J. did cheat on Nicole with Sami…another one of my brief memory loss problems but i guess it was there in the back of my mind when i put it in my comments in reply to kazzy and not realizing it already happen…i keep doing things like that too in my personal life…i try not to let it get to me…grateful that you reminded me…thanks, Mary!!!
I thought Sami was the one who befriended Abby not Abby. I would feel bad for Sami if Sami had not cheated on Rafe
Sami is a hypocrite…
Sami is ok but the real loss at days is EJ
I think Alison Sweeney has been turning in the best performances out of her whole run on Days the last few weeks. In the past Sami could be nasty, bitchy & vengeful but she somehow came off as a spoiled little girl. With this revenge story AS is putting out performances as an adult woman out for blood. Even her facial expressions seem different, harder and more cunning.
Perhaps AS did need a break and the burden of having so much story all the time took its toll and she felt more dynamic as her run was coming to an end.
That said, I hope that they do bring Sami back from time to time. For a legacy character to just fall of the earth makes no sense. It has always bothered me when major events happen & close family is absent. In real life people try to be present for this like weddings, funerals and such. And when soaps ignore years of family ties with either little or lame excuses it always makes the audience shake their heads.
I absolutely loved Sami’s scenes with Caroline and how she finally broke down. I’ve never been a huge fan of Sami; but, those scenes were genuine and raw.
Sweeney is one of the reasons DAYS has become my soap of choice (even tho I follow all the remaining four). Her Sami is a rich legacy character and even if the plot seem wrong, I enjoy watching the actor. She will be missed but we will remember these great moments until Sami visits Salem. I cannot imagine there will not be guest appearances or a short-term storyline down the road.
The role of Sami Brady that Allison Sweeney played on Days has so tainted my opinion that I have difficulty separating the character from the actress. Anyone can play a self-absorbed, over-the-top, immature, undisciplined, screeching shrew.
I am waiting for everything to blow up in Sami’s face, at which time I will say, Bien hecho, bitch.
Change is Good…she has done this gig for many many years… I was shocked to hear she is directing a GH episode…isn’t that what Kim MC ( Robin) has always wanted to do? If there was a ‘opening’, why would they not have offered it to a long GH alum? I am sure there are reasons, but honestly, that’s just not cool….
Only my little bitty opinion…. 😉

‘Days of Our Lives’ Favorites Making Returns: Alison Sweeney, Christie Clark, Chandler Massey and Bryan Dattilo

Great news for Days of Our Lives fans, now that Ryan Quan is co-head writer of the long-running soap opera. Coming in June of 2027 (since DAYS tapes ten or so months ahead), you can look forward to the returns of Alison Sweeney (Sami Brady), Christie Clark (Carrie Brady), Chandler Massey (Will Horton) and Bryan Dattilo (Lucas Horton).
The foursome is back on set and began last week to tape their upcoming story arc, according to TV Insider. As to what exactly is going on that brings sister Sami and Carrie’s history back up, as well as Will and Lucas’ is only being teased at this time, but suffice to say, it should be intriguing.
Alison Sweeney explained on being back on set, “It was a lot of dialogue and emotion, but with all the best actors to work opposite, we fell into it as if no time had passed. It was really wonderful.”

As to working with the longstanding rivalry of Sami and Carrie, Alison added on working with Clark, “So, it really does feel like we’re sisters. It’s so fun, and she’s such a good actor that she makes everything so natural that you can really disappear into those stories.”
JUST LIKE OLD TIMES
It also seems like the deep-history, which often had the sister fighting for the love of Austin Reed, but that might not figure into the equation this time, or will it?
Alison indicated what she thought of the scripts she was given. “I felt like when I read it, it was a page-turner. I was very excited. There’s a lot of history here, and a lot of things that haven’t been said. So, it’s really not like, ‘Oh, rehashing stuff.’ And now having played some of the scenes, I’m psyched.” Sweeney added, as for the men, working again with her on-screen son, Chandler Massey and Will’s on-screen father Bryan Dattilo, was also extra special.
The last time DAYS viewers saw Sami on the canvas was back in November of 2025, when she revealed she has gotten engaged to never-before-seen Dante Vitali. As for Clark, she last visited Salem for the episodes surrounding John Black’s memorial in June of 2025.
Chandler Massey’s Will Horton last made a visit to Salem in November of 2025 when he attended the gala for the Tom Horton Free Clinic as part of the soap opera’s 60th anniversary celebration. Bryan Dattilo was last seen in December of 2025. So, by the time we see all four again it will be close to two years since they were on new episodes of the series. Time to look forward to June of 2027.
So, excited by the news of Alison, Christie, Chandler and Lucas making a return to Days of Our Lives? What do you think the story will be involving, Sami, Carrie, Lucas and Will? Let us know via the comment section.

‘Days of Our Lives’ Alum Al Calderon Talks On His Daytime Emmy-Nominated Scenes as Javi Hernandez (Exclusive)

Last Tuesday, Al Calderon scored the first Emmy nomination of his career for his role as Javi Hernandez on Days of Our Lives.
Calderon name was announced as one of the performers competing for gold in the Emerging Talent in a Daytime Drama Series category at the upcoming 53rd annual Daytime Emmy Awards on October 30.
This week, Calderon chatted live on You Tube’s Michael Fairman Channel for a one-on-one conversation where he discussed: his nominated scenes and time on the Peacock streaming soap opera, his decision to leave DAYS, his role of Nico Silva on Brilliant Minds and its sad cancellation, plus his passing the torch of Javi to Jacob Martinez, who took over the role on-screen on the June 30, 2026 episode of Days of Our Lives.

JAVI REVEALS TO LEO THAT HE HAD A DAUGHTER WHO DIED
Al revealed the scenes that comprise his now Emmy-nominated reel have at its epicenter the heartbreaking moments from the September 12, 2025 episode. In it, Javi shares for the first time to Leo (Greg Rikaart) that he had a daughter named Solana, with a woman he was seeing named Sylvia. One fateful day, Sylvia left their child in a car when she went to work and the little girl died. Javi had blamed himself for not being the parent to take his daughter to school that day since he was hungover the night before, therefore it opened up the opportunity for something to happen to the his child, and it did.
The multi-talented actor/singer explained his reel: “It was the scene where he is talking about his daughter to Leo. I also included the scene where Javi goes to talk to Melinda (Tina Huang) and to see if it would be a viable option to adopt, because I wanted to introduce the subtlety and nuance of why Javi kind of has this whole connection to Tesoro, in a way.”
It is true that Al can bring the tears and make us cry right along with him during his run as Javi. To that, Calderon added, “I’ve read the comments that I’m a little bit of a crybaby, so I didn’t want the entire reel to be of me crying, but I wanted it to show a little bit of an emotional range of the restraint that Javi was feeling so I included that scene
In addition Calderon shared, “I also included a really beautiful scene with Cherie Jimenez (Gabi Hernandez, DAYS) where I’m looking at photos of Tesoro, and of course, Javi is crying. I just wanted to show the relationship between Javi and his family as well, and as I mentioned the reveal of the child that he lost.”

ALUMS AL CALDERON AND ALICE HALSEY REPRESENT DAYS OF OUR LIVES IN EMERGING TALENT CATEGORY
In a twist of fate, Calderon is also nominated in the Emerging Talent category with Alice Halsey who played Rachel Black. Halsey is currently starring in the reboot of Little House on the Prairie in the lead role of Laura Ingalls on Netflix.
As to his hope on Emmy night, Al expressed, “Of course, I want to win, but Alice Halsey is going to give me a run for the money. And if’s not me (who wins the award), it better be her!”
You can check out the full interview with Al below.
Now let us know, do you remember Al’s emotional scenes when he explained to Leo he had a daughter who died, which made it all the more heartbreaking to not end up with permanent custody of Tesoro? What do you think of Al’s chances to win the gold based on his Emmy scene selection? Do you miss him as Javi? Weigh-in via the comment section.

Emily O’Brien Talks On Her Y&R Past as Jana Hawkes and Working with Peter Porte on ‘Days of Our Lives’

On the latest edition of Soapy Hosted by Rebecca Budig and Greg Rikaart which dropped on Tuesday, July 21, Emily O’Brien is the featured guest. As soap fans know, Emily has worked with Rikaart both in her first soap role on The Young and the Restless as Jana Hawkes and now on Days of Our Lives in her current role of Gwen Rizczech.
While Emily continues on DAYS, she has very impressive list of credits in the other part of her career as a voice-over actress and one in motion-capture in some of the most popular video games in the world.
O’Brien was first seen on The Young and the Restless back in 2006. She recalled her landing the role which eventually paired her for her five year run with Greg Rikaart.

BEING CAST ON THE YOUNG AND THE RESTLESS
“The role was just a few days and she wasn’t even supposed to be English,” Emily recalled. “The role was originally called Jade. Karen Rae, the casting director of The Young and the Restless at the time said to me “Oh, you’re from England. Try it with the dialect.” I put it on and she said, ‘I’m going to bring you back at like 3 for s callback.’ So then they changed the role to Jana and they said she’s going to be a Brit. I was only supposed to be on for like five episodes and it turned into 5 years.”
In explaining why she loved crazy Jana, Emily shared, “Jana was sort of like the misanthrope. She was just was the odd one out and I loved it. I felt so comfortable playing that because she was just eclectic and weird and she loved playing with Ouija boards and she rode a motorbike. There was just so much color to bring to her. It was just such a great match to play with Greg (Kevin), and Christian LeBlanc (Michael) and Tracey Bregman (Lauren).

GWEN, DIMITRI AND LEO ON DAYS OF OUR LIVES
On Days of Our Lives, the Leo, Gwen, Dimitri dynamic is quite unique and been through many schemes and entanglements. Often Emily finds herself in repartee with her ex-lover, Dimitri, who turned out to be gay and then had a thing for her bestie, Leo (Greg Rikaart)!
During the conversation, Greg and Emily sang, Peter Porte’s praised with O’Brien expressing, “Peter is just ready to play. He comes on set prepared. I’ve never seen him with his script. From blocking and rehearsals, he doesn’t have it. He’s prepared. He’s a physical actor and he always trying to come up with something. I think he let me slap him. He let me kiss him. He let me throw a cheeseburger in his lap. He’s ready for anything for anything.”
You can catch the full episode of ‘Soapy; featuring Emily O’Brien below where the actress also talks about replacing Jen Lilley as Theresa Donovan after being let go as Gwen; and being paired again with Greg Rikaart on the Peacock streaming soap opera this time as best friends and more.
