DAYS Camila Banus Delivers The ‘Power Performance of the Week’

The angst, drama, tears, and revenge continued this week on NBC’s Days of our Lives with the stirring portrayal of grief-stricken young woman; who is hell-bent on making everyone around her suffer for the loss of her husband in a fatal gunshot that left him brain-dead.  Of course, we are talking about Camila Banus (Gabi), who turned in bravura performances this week, and there are four moments that really stood out to us that showed the range and depth of Banus’ work.

In the hospital chapel, Gabi talks to God and prayed to him that he will make Stefan (Brandon Barash) whole again.  There has been one through-line for Gabi throughout her life – she seems to have everything and everyone she loves taken away from her, even if some of the decisions she makes along the way have a cause/effect that leaves her feeling completely alone, and ready to lash out at the world for what has transpired.  In the chapel, she asks God through her tears, “Why do you hate me so much?” Gabi tells God she went to Sunday school as a little girl and still she has lost God and her husband.  Gabi cannot even get herself to look at Stefan’s things when Sonny (Freddie Smith) and Will (Chandler Massey) try to share them with her as she slaps the envelope out of their hands.

In another heartbreaking scene, Gabi is in the bed she shared with Stefan. She flashes to kissing the love of her life.  Next, Gabi breaks down in tears, and throws things around in the bedroom before slumping to the floor.  She sobs and says, “Why did you give me your heart, Stefan, if you weren’t going to be around to love me with it?”

Later, Gabi talks to Stefan in her sleep as she hugs his pillow. When she wakes up she cries as Kate (Lauren Koslow) arrives to check on her.  Gabi lets Kate have it, and at first blames Kate for the whole mess with Stefan.  Gabi lashes out that if it wasn’t for Stefan getting in between Kate’s feud with Vivian (Robin Strasser), he’d still be alive.  Kate knows Gabi is in despair and hugs her.  Then, Gabi channels her angst towards Lani (Sal Stowers) promising to make her suffer.

And on Friday’s episode, Gabi is ramping us some sort of revenge plan promising Stefan his legacy will live on. Earlier, Gabi was present with Lani and Eli (Lamon Archey) when Kayla (Mary Beth Evans) informed them that Julie (Susan Seaforth Hayes) will need a special pacemaker, even after receiving Stefan’s heart. Somehow, Gabi found a file on Visionary Bionics, the company that makes this unique medical device, and recalls Kayla saying she’ll do the procedure on Julie tomorrow. Gabi makes a mysterious call.  What is she about to do?

Through all of the emotional drama, Banus sustained a level of performance that is no easy feat. That is why Michael Fairman TV names Camila’s work The Power Performance of the Week.

Let us know if you agree with our pick, and what you thought of Camila’s performances, and what you think Gabi might do next, via the comment section below.

Mail her the lead actress Emmy today. Given their shooting schedule, and the roller coaster of emotions she’s been asked to play, she’s been revelatory.

I want someone to shut her up!! Who does she think she is??? Yelling and screaming at doctors and cops…ordering them around like they are her minions?! She “loved” Stefan for about 2 minutes…and despised him for 2.5 years before that. Her wailing and screeching and carrying on about him being the “love of her life” is ridiculous over the top nonsense! This is not Bo and Hope here!! Gabi has become a draining, shrill, heartless bitch that is loud, arrogant, entitled, vengeful, unforgiving, and all around unpleasant. Can the writers tone down her hatefulnes and volume a little??? She is so concerned about being there for her daughter, and yet she keeps doing pointless, illegal things. And all the other characters bow down to her and give in to her every whim. If I was…well..ANY character on the canvas….I would start by telling her to sit down….SHUT THE HELL UP…and listen!!! Bitch….you drugged a pregnant woman!!! You have a long list of crimes thst you havent even begun to pay for!!! Look in a mirror….and realize that you are not a victim…..your victims are!!! And please….do it a low decibel level!!

Colin,
I agree with every thing you have said, and more. Now this latest with poor Lani is the ultimate. I am putting Gabi up there with crazy Jordan. If this show gets any worse, especially with the time-jump coming, I may stop watching. I have felt for a long time that they have ruined Gabi’s character. I understand that every show has it’s own villainess, but there is more than enough on this show already. I also think Lani should tell someone like her dad for instance, that would believe her and find out what Gabi is up to.Levi is to naive and gullible .As far as Jordan, she has now poisoned Rafe and David, with Ari’s help. I bet Ciara is pregnant, and Ben will find the poison in his jacket, figuring out exactly what his sister did.i

Personally, I have been so disgusted with her of late, I would like to see her gone! I used to like Gabi, but I feel they have ruined her character, starting with her chasing after Chad, and things she’s done to Abby. Also the slutty way she acts and dresses, and to give her another child would be insane. She doesn’t even take care of the one she’s got. I haven’t seen Ari in the Di Mera house one time since Gabi has been shacking up with Stephan and after they married. He was so good with Holly when she was there with Chloe, and would have been so loving with Ari, as well.

Camila’s performance this week actually made me cry and I don’t cry at TV normally. She is amazing and I hope she gets an award!

Gwen
I didn’t know they had a bitch award. How interesting!

yes yes and yes last week when i saw cynthia watros posted for her performance i said wait where is camila her performance was real and raw worthy of an emmy love her get brandon barash back asap days is a daily must see !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

She was phenomenal, and I felt her pain, like she was my own daughter. Bravo Camila!!!!

Camilla blew me away with her scenes as Gabi. She’s been my favorite character on the show for years. I would be lost if Camilla left the show. I have watched Gabi take so much and I do understand the choices she makes. This week was awesome for me with her scenes!!!

Love Gabi and Camilla.

CB’s performance last week was indeed a revelation. I honestly did not know she had this deep well of emotion inside but she proved me very, very wrong. The scene that took me over the edge was Gabi’s diatribe against Kate while Kate was trying to console her. The second scream of “It’s not fair,” had me crying my eyes out. I rewound that scene about five times so that I could digest it all. I understand that this “love story” never existed but that’s beside the point. I can’t wait to see what Gabi will do next.

I’m particularly overjoyed that we don’t have to see victim Gabi anymore. That girl really got on my last nerve!
