DAYS Camila Banus Delivers The ‘Power Performance of the Week’

PhotoL JPI

The angst, drama, tears, and revenge continued this week on NBC’s Days of our Lives with the stirring portrayal of grief-stricken young woman; who is hell-bent on making everyone around her suffer for the loss of her husband in a fatal gunshot that left him brain-dead.  Of course, we are talking about Camila Banus (Gabi), who turned in bravura performances this week, and there are four moments that really stood out to us that showed the range and depth of Banus’ work.

In the hospital chapel, Gabi talks to God and prayed to him that he will make Stefan (Brandon Barash) whole again.  There has been one through-line for Gabi throughout her life – she seems to have everything and everyone she loves taken away from her, even if some of the decisions she makes along the way have a cause/effect that leaves her feeling completely alone, and ready to lash out at the world for what has transpired.  In the chapel, she asks God through her tears, “Why do you hate me so much?” Gabi tells God she went to Sunday school as a little girl and still she has lost God and her husband.  Gabi cannot even get herself to look at Stefan’s things when Sonny (Freddie Smith) and Will (Chandler Massey) try to share them with her as she slaps the envelope out of their hands.

In another heartbreaking scene, Gabi is in the bed she shared with Stefan. She flashes to kissing the love of her life.  Next, Gabi breaks down in tears, and throws things around in the bedroom before slumping to the floor.  She sobs and says, “Why did you give me your heart, Stefan, if you weren’t going to be around to love me with it?”

Later, Gabi talks to Stefan in her sleep as she hugs his pillow. When she wakes up she cries as Kate (Lauren Koslow) arrives to check on her.  Gabi lets Kate have it, and at first blames Kate for the whole mess with Stefan.  Gabi lashes out that if it wasn’t for Stefan getting in between Kate’s feud with Vivian (Robin Strasser), he’d still be alive.  Kate knows Gabi is in despair and hugs her.  Then, Gabi channels her angst towards Lani (Sal Stowers) promising to make her suffer.

And on Friday’s episode, Gabi is ramping us some sort of revenge plan promising Stefan his legacy will live on. Earlier, Gabi was present with Lani and Eli (Lamon Archey) when Kayla (Mary Beth Evans) informed them that Julie (Susan Seaforth Hayes) will need a special pacemaker, even after receiving Stefan’s heart. Somehow, Gabi found a file on Visionary Bionics, the company that makes this unique medical device, and recalls Kayla saying she’ll do the procedure on Julie tomorrow. Gabi makes a mysterious call.  What is she about to do?

Through all of the emotional drama, Banus sustained a level of performance that is no easy feat. That is why Michael Fairman TV names Camila’s work The Power Performance of the Week.

Mail her the lead actress Emmy today. Given their shooting schedule, and the roller coaster of emotions she’s been asked to play, she’s been revelatory.

I want someone to shut her up!! Who does she think she is??? Yelling and screaming at doctors and cops…ordering them around like they are her minions?! She “loved” Stefan for about 2 minutes…and despised him for 2.5 years before that. Her wailing and screeching and carrying on about him being the “love of her life” is ridiculous over the top nonsense! This is not Bo and Hope here!! Gabi has become a draining, shrill, heartless bitch that is loud, arrogant, entitled, vengeful, unforgiving, and all around unpleasant. Can the writers tone down her hatefulnes and volume a little??? She… Read more »

Colin, I agree with every thing you have said, and more. Now this latest with poor Lani is the ultimate. I am putting Gabi up there with crazy Jordan. If this show gets any worse, especially with the time-jump coming, I may stop watching. I have felt for a long time that they have ruined Gabi’s character. I understand that every show has it’s own villainess, but there is more than enough on this show already. I also think Lani should tell someone like her dad for instance, that would believe her and find out what Gabi is up to.Levi… Read more »

Personally, I have been so disgusted with her of late, I would like to see her gone! I used to like Gabi, but I feel they have ruined her character, starting with her chasing after Chad, and things she’s done to Abby. Also the slutty way she acts and dresses, and to give her another child would be insane. She doesn’t even take care of the one she’s got. I haven’t seen Ari in the Di Mera house one time since Gabi has been shacking up with Stephan and after they married. He was so good with Holly when she… Read more »

Camilla blew me away with her scenes as Gabi. She’s been my favorite character on the show for years. I would be lost if Camilla left the show. I have watched Gabi take so much and I do understand the choices she makes. This week was awesome for me with her scenes!!!

CB’s performance last week was indeed a revelation. I honestly did not know she had this deep well of emotion inside but she proved me very, very wrong. The scene that took me over the edge was Gabi’s diatribe against Kate while Kate was trying to console her. The second scream of “It’s not fair,” had me crying my eyes out. I rewound that scene about five times so that I could digest it all. I understand that this “love story” never existed but that’s beside the point. I can’t wait to see what Gabi will do next. I’m particularly… Read more »

Louise Sorel Back Taping Episodes at Days of our Lives

During a guest appearance with Harvey Brownstone on his celebrity You Tube interview show, Louise Sorel revealed that she is back in-studio taping all-new episodes of Days of our Lives as Vivian Alamain.

This will mark the first on-screen appearance by Sorel in over three years.  However, we heard Sorel’s voice when Vivian made a call to Stefan (Brandon Barash) back in January of this year.

The last few times Vivian was on-screen in Salem, she was played by two different Daytime Emmy-winning actresses. First, One Life to Live icon, Robin Strasser (ex-Dorian) played the part and then exited the canvas back in the fall of 2019.  Next, Linda Dano (ex-Felicia, AW and ex-Rae OLTL), took on the role in early 2021 for a brief stint.

In this newly released interview, Sorel dished with Brownstone on the rigors of taping a soap opera, and how on her first day back she felt “God-awful.”  Louise qualified that with how she found herself apologizing left and right to the cast and crew because it had been awhile since she had so much dialog to recite and to get back into the swing of things.

The longtime DAYS favorite also speaks to the pace in which everyone works at DAYS to get the episodes completed each day in front of the camera.  Since Days of our Lives tapes so far in advance, it will be months till Sorel is seen on the Peacock streaming series.

Check out Sorel’s interview below, where she also shares some behind the scenes intel on her time on Santa Barbara as Augusta Lockridge.

Head Writer Ron Carlivati on Bo & Hope Return: “This Is Old School Days of our Lives, and It’s Something That The Audience Has Waited a Very, Very Long Time to See”

Next week, begins the continuation of the shocking story arc that started last summer on Peacock’s limited streaming series, Days of our Lives: Beyond Salem Chapter 2.

In it, DAYS fans learned that Bo (Peter Reckell) has been kept in cryogenic cylinder for years, and was brought back to life by Stefano’s daughter, Megan Hathaway (Miranda Wilson).

Now, circle March 16th for Reckell’s first episode back as Bo and March 17th as Kristian Alfonso’s first episode back as Hope to the mothership and Days of our Lives.

Head writer, Ron Carlivati previewed the storyline in a new interview with Soap Opera Digest in their latest issue on newsstands now.

Carlivati shared: “We pick up Hope where we left her off.  She had gone though this whole experience with Harris Michaels (Steve Burton), finding out that he was in league with Megan Hathaway, and we ended her on ‘Beyond Salem’ like, ‘I have to bring Megan Hathaway to justice.  I have to find her and make her pay.”‘

While Hope is on mission, she will also have Harris Michaels back in the mix, and as the head scribe shares, “Hope is on a collision course with Bo, and she’s unaware of it.”

As to what lies ahead for viewers, Ron revealed: “This is old-school Days of our Lives, and it’s something that the audience has waited a very, very long time to see.  You won’t want to miss it.”

Check out Peacock’s promo for the return of Bo and Hope below which teases that while most people get over their high school sweethearts, this one never did, alluding to Megan’s past relationship with Bo, which is the impetus for her revenge plot.

Now let us know, are you looking forward to seeing how Bo and Hope’s enduring love story continues? Comment below.
