‘Days of our Lives: Beyond Salem Chapter 2’: Thomas Banks, Chris Kositchek, and a Prism Make Returns

On Tuesday’s second episode of the Peacock streaming series, Days of our Lives: Beyond Salem Chapter Two, the story got more juicy, and the ‘wink-wink nudge-nudges’ to the audience, and comedy bits, more hilarious.

We begin with Eileen Davidson’s OG Kristen DiMera reading a newspaper about seemingly herself winding up in jail. She then meets a handsome stranger at the bar she is at who is a professional poker player, played by Davidson’s real life hubby, Vincent Van Patten (who is also a real-life poker pro).  The guy, who’s name is Phil, tells Kristen that he won a valuable artifact in his game last night. Kristen turns on the seduction and ultimately, gets Phil to take her upstairs to his room.  When he goes to get some “protection” per Kristen’s request, he opens his briefcase, which also reveals a prism.  When he attempts to get cozy with Kristen, she head butts him.  Next, you see Kristen is undressed, revealing … it is not Kristen at all, but Susan Banks and Sister Mary Moira’s brother, Thomas Banks, pretending to be Kristen! Thomas heads out of the room … prism in tow.

Now, if you caught our latest interview with Days of our Lives and Beyond Salem head writer, Ron Carlivati, he shared that the character of Kristen DiMera (played by Stacy Haiduk on the mothership), “Wasn’t exactly available to be floating around the world as she is in Beyond Salem.  So, we knew where Kristen was when we started writing this. You’ll see when she makes her first appearance.  You will be like, ‘How can she be here … when I know she’s over here?'”  Well, now the question has been answered!

Back in San Francisco, Paul (Christopher Sean) gets more intel from Andrew (Colton Little) and they decide to track Harris Michaels (Steve Burton) movements in an effort to figure out where he took John (Drake Hogestyn) and Steve (Stephen Nichols).  That leads them to a gym … and who should be the owner of said gym, Chris Kositchek, as played by Josh Taylor! Chris mentions that he and his wife Savannah have run the gym for four decades!  Next, Paul and Andrew land in the gym hot tub, and we learn (or confirm) that Andrew is also gay.  We also see an ‘electrician’ is tampering with the wires who shuts off the hot tub.  Paul and Andrew take out the guy and find that he had Harris Michael’s gym locker key.  When they open it , they find two invitations to the DiMera Enterprises gala in Hong Kong.

Meanwhile, Megan (Miranda Wilson) reveals to John and Steve that they are in Caracas, Venezuela and how she never died.  Turns out, as she reminds her ‘captive audience’, the hot tub Larry Welch fried her in was really meant for Hope (Kristian Alfonso).  Megan explains how her father, Stefano, had her put in a cryogenic state until he could determine a way to heal her injuries. She comments on how ‘they’ve all done the Lazarus dance before’.  Next thing you know, Thomas Banks arrives with the prism for Megan.  She pays him off.  Now, she mentions she has one of three and needs to get her hands on the other two.  Turns out, Larry Welch’s father Victor Chorvat created the prisms and when the three are combined, they reveal technology that can cure diseases.  Remember, Stefano was trying to get the prisms to cure his brain tumor.

We also meet Wendy Shin (Victoria Grace), who is caught snooping around Tripp (Lucas Adam) and Joey’s (Tanner Stein) apartment in Seattle.  She reveals to the guys that she is the sister of Li Shin (Remington Hoffman) who is looking for Harris Michaels.  Seems DiMera Enterprises wants the prisms too, and as Wendy, who is an IT tech reveals, “In the right hands, these prisms can revolutionize medicine.” Li is going to reveal the plan and the prisms at the gala in Hong Kong, or so he thinks!

Back in Montreal, Ben (Rob Scott Wilson) and Ciara (Victoria Konefal) are in for a shock when Harris gets down on one knee and proposes to Hope, and then the biggest shocker, she accepts! What is going on with Hope? Previously, Harris had called someone in the hallway and told them, “He’s not going to let anyone stand in the way of what they have planned for Hope.”

In heaven, Bo (Peter Reckell) is watching the live feed of Harris and Hope and becoming more unglued.  Angela (Loretta Devine) reminds him that Hope isn’t his wife anymore, and they weren’t even married when he died. Bo wants to go back to save Hope from Harris.  He needs to talk to the “Big Man” upstairs to let him get to Hope in time.

For a longtime Days Viewer, this episode was hilarious. Eileen Davidson was a hoot as Thomas Banks. Vincent Van Patten was a added bonus too. Josh Taylor as Chris was a great throwback. (too bad Savannah Tweed wasn’t available to play Savannah). I didn’t realize this was the original actress that played Megan Hathaway until I looked it up. Ron and his writing staff have really hit it out of the ballpark so far. Can’t wait to watch the next episode.

I know Andrew Donovan hasn’t actually been to Salem since he was a baby, but surely he must have noticed that Chris Kositchek dude at the gym looks exactly like his Uncle Roman. Paul didn’t notice either, apparently.

So, Harris Michaels is a Navy SEAL. Does that mean he has a twin brother (separated at birth) that got brain damaged and became a mob enforcer? Just wondering…

I see what you did there!

Satan/Steve
I see what Steve did too, but wouldn’t that make two Seals and the mobster?

Its like reading a comic book with all your favorite heros and villians with surprise guest stars and nodd to history! Its a love letter to the fans! Well done Ron!

Is that neck hair peeking out of Thomas’s collar? What a hoot. Forgot what John said, but he is spooky!
