Casey Moss Talks on His Return to Days of our Lives: “Healthy” On Set Environment Under Janet Drucker, Remembrance of Drake Hogestyn, and JJ’s Future

Last week, Casey Moss returned to Days of our Lives in his role of JJ Deveraux to officiate the “wedding” of “Abigail” and Chad (Billy Flynn) in Paris. As JJ is about to find out, and everyone else, “Abigail” is really Cat Greene (AnnaLynne McCord), and the whole Deveraux clan has been scammed.

Previously, Moss appeared on DAYS from 2013-2020, where he earned a Daytime Emmy nomination for his work. Now in 2024, Casey is back on DAYS and while his initial stint is streaming now on Peacock, he is currently taping all-new episodes at DAYS, which will air most likely nine months from now, since the soap opera tapes so far in advance of when it drops episodes on its streamer.

On Friday October 18th, Moss visited the Michael Fairman Channel for a livestream conversation where he opened up on life away from the soap opera, his own growing pains, coming back to work with Billy Flynn and AnnaLynne McCord, plus what lies ahead for JJ.  In addition, the actor commented on the current “healthy” state behind the scenes at DAYS now under the auspices of current, Janet Drucker. Casey also took a moment to remember the late Drake Hogestyn, who passed away last month due to his battle with pancreatic cancer at age 70.

Moss revealed what happened when he received the call to come back to the soap opera, relating, “I was actually site supervising the new Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story on Netflix in Woodland Hills, California, and then I get a text from Marni Saitta (casting director) saying, ‘Ron (Carlivati, former head writer, DAYS) wants to know if you want to come back for a few episodes’. So I said, ‘Absolutely, yes,” and here we are, nine months later. Casey also shared his thoughts on former GH star Nicholas Chavez (ex-Spencer Cassadine) and Cooper Koch in the lead roles in Monsters, “These guys were absolutely phenomenal. It’s some of the best acting I’ve seen in a very long time.”

Speaking on the loss of beloved DAYS veteran Drake Hogestyn, Moss related, “He was probably everything you aspire and hope to be as a person in the entertainment industry. It never got to his head and he was always respectful. When I got off the show, and in a nutshell, I was kinda stupid with how I went about my finances just like every young kid, or at least the majority. I had to get a job at a restaurant in Malibu. It was the best thing that ever happened to me. The restaurant happened to be the one in Malibu that Drake frequented. I was serving him one time, and it was amazing how he treated me. He did the exact same hand on the shoulder thing he does, and gave me a big hug in front of his family, and then he told me a story.” Casey added, “Drake’s going to be very, very missed. My dressing room is right next to where his was.”

When Janet Drucker took over the the co-executive producer position from the ousted Albert Alarr back in August of 2023, the goal was to change the backstage culture of the show. Having been gone full-time from the show for four years, Moss reports that coming back now the environment could not be better, relating, “Janet, being the head here now, (and I’ve seen this set, you know, less than other people, but more than others for the past decade), this set is so healthy. People that are here want to be here and want to do their best work. This is the healthiest set I’ve seen. Everyone loves each other, because just like any other work environment; you got people that aren’t necessarily fond of each other, and I’ve seen that throughout the years. However, the type of environment that she’s created on this set is just magical.”

Since more JJ will be coming up down the line, Moss shares that he may have an on-screen love interest or two, and addresses if JJ might somehow get his police badge back after it was taken away following the shooting of Theo Carver (then Kyler Pettis) back in 2017. That storyline (where JJ contemplated ending his life because of it) won DAYS multiple Emmys.

The actor shared, “I think it’s probably in the blood for who JJ is and thinking about what his mom (Jennifer) and his dad (Jack) do as well with investigative journalism. JJ come from the same mindset, but with a little bit of young man machismo put into it and wanting to protect and serve, whether that be in a profession or whether that be in a relationship.”  Casey then teased for JJ’s future, “I hate saying this, but you guys are gonna have to watch and tune in (to find out what happens).”

Check out our full livestream conversation with Casey below.

Now let us know, who do you think JJ should be involved with romantically? What story do you hope is coming up down the line? What did you think of Casey’s thoughts on Janet Drucker and Drake Hogestyn? Share your thoughts in the comment section.

I’m glad he’s back. Look forward to seeing more of him!
We need our core families back.

I miss jj’s old drug dealer friend. That guy was hilarious.

Rory!

So glad he’s back and glad to hear the environment is healthy

Now that Albert is gone I hope Janet brings back Ari Zucker and all the other ladies who were affected by his uncomfortable work environment.

I hope they bring back ari Zuckerberg miss seeing her

Last I heard, she was still suing them. Which unfortunately makes it unlikely that she will be back.

On the other horn, some of the other actresses who left during Alarr’s “reign of terror” have apparently already started taping again. Others returned after they fired ReRon, so maybe Al wasn’t the only one keeping them away?

Whatever it takes to get “Body and Soul” off the screen as soon as possible, for Hell’s sake.

LOL please cancel it!!! But not days!!

Franco LoPresti and Sydney Malakeh Makes Their ‘Days of our Lives’ Debuts: What Were Your First Impressions?

Franco LoPresti and Sydney Malakeh

Days of our Lives fans were introduced on the Monday, September 14 episode to Dante Vitali in the form of actor Franco LoPresti, and reintroduced to Sydney DiMera as now played by Sydney Malakeh.

The DAYS writers connected the story by having them as major participants in a high stakes poker game in Monte Carlo where Philip (John-Paul Lavoisier) with Gabi (Cherie Jimenez) by his side, are trying to win enough money to save Titan Industries and the Kiriakis legacy.

When we first meet Sydney she is in front of a mirror putting on her lipstick as she puts the finishing touches on her look for the evening, when she receives a call from her grandmother, Marlena Evans (Deidre Hall).

Later, Sydney shows up at the poker game with Dante Vitali, who introduces himself as Sami Brady’s fiancé. Philip explains that he has his own connections to Sami and would prefer his presence in the game be kept under wraps. Dante tells Philip he does not keep secrets from Sami.

Gabi asked Dante about his connection to Ava Vitali, to which Dante shared that although they shared the same last name, they were not close. Gabi says that’s good because Ava is “bonkers.” Dante did not appreciate Gabi disparaging Ava in that manner.

Philip is shocked that Sydney is such a poker player. Then we get the backstory on how she learned a lot from her grandfather, Roman Brady, and when she went to school, she played poker to beat the mean girls and realized she was quite good at it.

In the end, after throwing one guy out named “Otto”, who was “cheating” in the game, Dante offered two additional hands to Philip with a new deck. Dante asks,“Winner take all?” Philip says, “Works for me.” Eventually, Philip won the hand, but alone with Gabi told her he did not win enough to save Titan.

DID MARLENA GIVE BIRTH TO STEFANO’S SON?

As all this is going down, in Salem, Marlena is wistful worried that there is something she has blocked out in her memories from her time being kidnapped by Stefano. She tells this to a concerned Julie (Susan Seaforth Hayes).

Meanwhile, Belle (Martha Madison), Chad (Conner Floyd) and EJ (Dan Feuerriegel) have all made it to Italy, and find hidden in a replicate chess set, just like Stefano willed to John and Marlena, a photo of Stefano with a young boy dated 1992 with whom they believe is “Dominic Marino.”

At the end of the episode, Dante shows up to a room with the mystery person wearing Stefano’s ring. He assures the person that no matter how many chips Philip won, he would not be able to save Titan and the Kiriakis mansion. Then, Dante utters, “Well, played, Dom.”

So, what’s going on here? Is Dante a bad guy? Is Sydney a schemer? Did Marlena have Stefano’s son, named Dominic Marino, but blocked the whole thing out for decades? And, what were your first impressions of the highly-anticipated debuts of Franco LoPresti and Sydney Malakeh? Weigh-in via the comment section. But first, in case you missed, check out this week’s promo for Days of our Lives below.

‘Heated Rivalry’ Star Franco LoPresti Opens Up About ‘Days of our Lives’ Debut as Dante Vitali

Next week on Monday, September 14 will mark the first appearance in Salem of Franco LoPresti in his new Days of our Lives role of Dante Vitali.

Heated Rivalry fans now LoPresti very well from his part as hockey player Cliff Marleau in the series first season. (No word yet if Cliff appears in season 2).

Now in a conversation with TV Insider, DAYS fans will learn that LoPresti is on the soap for a limited run. No timetable was given.

When LoPresti does burst onto the scene come Monday, Dante makes quite the impact as Franco LoPresti explains. It seems that viewers will first see him in scenes in Monte Carlo at a poker table with none other than Gabi Hernandez (Cherie Jimenez) and Philip Kiriakis (John-Paul Lavoisier).  However, Dante will come to Salem to talk to the Brady family about his supposed fiancée Sami Brady (Alison Sweeney).

Franco shared, “Dante was born and grew up in Italy and educated at this pretty top-tier English boarding school. He then went on to build his own dynasty in finance, all the while trying to distance himself from the Vitali name (as viewers know Tamara Braun played his cousin Ava Vitali).”

“But at the core of Dante, there’s definitely an old-school quality to him”, continued LoPresti. “He’s super passionate, he’s sincere and incredibly generous, but he’s also someone that you probably shouldn’t underestimate. Loyalty is something that means a lot to him. As Dante enters Salem, I think the audience will get to slowly peel back those layers and discover what’s really driving him. So, I’m excited for Days fans to go on that ride with Dante.”

As it turns out, LoPresti taped his episodes of DAYS starting back in November 2025 which happened to be weeks before Heated Rivalry became a smash hit.

Franco recalled, “It’s so funny because I thought my episodes would air in a month (on Days of our Lives). But I found out it was nine to 10 months and I was like, ‘I gotta wait that long?!’ So, I’ve been biting my nails, trying not to think about it, and I think it’s actually kind of helped because now it’s here and it’s all coming at me from all different angles. I’m nervous. I’m excited, and I just can’t wait to see it all come together. It’s one of the best jobs I’ve ever had for sure.”

In his personal life, Franco just had his first child with wife, actress Emily Alatalo, just a weeks ago on August 23rd when they welcomed their daughter, Stella into the world.

So, looking forward to seeing Franco LoPresti’s debut come Monday? What do you think about the fact that it’s being reported as a limited run? Do you think Dante and Sami have a chance on-screen or off-screen to be a happy couple? What do you really think brings Dante to Salem sans Sami?
