‘Days of our Lives’ Fires Four Actors at Start of New Year
As 2026 began, four of the contract younger actors at Peacock’s Days of our Lives were let go in what was reportedly dramatic fashion and where they were blindsided as first reported by the Daily Mail.
Exiting the soap opera are: Carson Boatman (Johnny), Raven Bowens (Chanel), Leo Howard (Tate) and Ashley Puzemis (Holly). As DAYS viewers know, production on the series is ten months ahead of streaming new episodes, which means that these on-screen duos will be seen at least well into 2026, or even possibly early 2027.
A series spokesperson told Soap Opera Digest on the departures, “While we don’t comment on individual contracts or casting decisions, we have tremendous respect and appreciation for the actors who bring these characters to life. What may seem sudden is part of long-range storytelling decisions. Our goal is to balance the show’s rich history with where we’re headed creatively. Due to our long tape-to-air gap, any changes won’t be on screen for some time.”

Informing the four actors right as they returned to work after the holiday break, a Daily Mall source shared, ‘It was a New Year bloodbath at Days of our Lives this month as the cast returned from a Christmas hiatus. Days decided they needed to switch things up. All four actors were let go last week within a day of getting back from the show’s holiday hiatus. They were totally blindsided, especially Carson who was in the middle of renegotiating a new contract.’
In fact, Carson Boatman confirmed his exit and shared this statement: ‘I’m incredibly grateful for the past five years. I have nothing but love and respect for everyone over there from top to bottom. The closing of this chapter is bittersweet for me as I’ve cherished every moment spent walking those halls and on the sound stages. A lot of tears, and a lot of laughter have been spilled on all those sets by so many people, including myself.”
The tenure of the four exiting stars with the long-running soap opera has Raven Bowens having been with the show the longest of the group, having debuted back in March of 2021 replacing Precious Way. Then, Carson Boatman joined the soap as EJ (Dan Feuerriegel) and Sami’s (Alison Sweeney) SORAS’d son, Johnny DiMera in August of that year. Ashley Puzemis joined the series as the SORAS’d daughter of Nicole (Arianne Zucker) and Daniel (Shawn Christian) in October of 2023, and Leo Howard was a recast for the role of Brady’s (Eric Martsolf) son, Tate. Howard replaced Jamie Martin Mann in April of 2024.
So, what do you think about Carson Boatman, Raven Bowens, Leo Howard and Ashley Puzemis being pink-slipped at Days of our Lives? Share your thoughts via the comment section below, and if you will miss them on the Salem canvas once they exit on-screen late this year?
I’m really surprised. I’m sad to see Carson and Raven go. I don’t care too much about Holly. I do like Tate. I wish them all well.
If General Hospital was smart, they would snatch up Raven Bowens, she auditioned for Trina. It’s time to recast Trina. Raven will add the nuances of Trina which unfortunately, we aren’t getting with the current actress.
As for blood bath, could the neck-tie killer be returning to Salem? Ciara realizes that Ben is off his meds or something, and he comes back to Salem and… well, you know the rest. They “killed” off Will, killed Paige and a few other young actors, no? Could be interesting with Ben & Alex!!!
Raven is a true gem… if GH, keeps the current Trina… Raven head for television! I love Ashley, too, but they wrote Holly into a corner since Nicole (Ari) left Salem with Eric.
I love raven and Carson but I hope they dont kill them off, I figured holly and tate will go off to school but Chanel and Chanel and Johnny has a kid and one on the way, maybe they will move away. I hope to see those two on another show soon, they are so talented and pretty lol.
What’s the deal with Trina, why did GH give such a wooden actress so prominant a role?
Agree same here
What a Big joke NBC well. Peacock are. How do u wake up in the morning, fire not one but 4? Two future or younger super couples, how?”
Worse right after New Year’s Day, wow.” Shameful.
Your rating will drop.So angry at Days casting.”
So p—-sed off! I’m no longer watching like I have for the last decade literally . No need to. I’ll read the Soap news on FB pages, other message soap chats on X too. Poor Carson and Raven.” Imo the 2 were a very cute Realistic couple. One 1/2 is a Days soap vet son ( Sami) child. I like holly too. I mean, why not Alex? Stephanie? This is so wrong.
Why not have these guys on part x? Recurring, I’m disgusted with Days of our lives. Love my vets ok the old people(63/65 & up) and I love the range of Middle age (40-60) for sure. However, these were 2 young couples very well-liked, so shame on you, the casting dept., shame on you all. Ratings will drop.” I’m going to smile when they do, Thank God I’m still having mi Bold soap and Y&R, and GH. I’m hoping Carson audition for Bold and or even GH.”
This is a huge mistake. I will never watch the show after 60 years of being a loyal fan. I hope you bankrupt now
HUGE mistake! I love Johnny, Chanel & Holly. Tate not so much. But are they going to wipe out all the young people? Who’s left? Ari and Sophia? Ari won’t have any friends; Sophia is busy pretending to be screwy. We need all generations on a soap. I’ve been very disappointed with these writers. They’ve turned Jennifer into a evil monster, and destroyed the personalities of many other characters who have been beloved for many decades. I’ve been watching since 1968 & am not happy with the direction the show has been taking.
Not watching as much. Only have 1 young woman of color in. Johnny is great wit Chanel. Both have a lot of fans. Shame on days casting, a real shame.” Horrible and fire four at new years I mean just no respect at all. None Nada . ratings will drop ,
They’ll be back in 6 months from about the time they actually leave. Days always does this. You live and die by the budget.
I had a feeling Leo Howard (Tate) was gone or on his way out, as he was missing from a lot of the 60th anniversary celebrations. As for the other cuts, I am not surprised. Sure, there are others who could have and should have been cut, but at the same time, shake-ups can happen.
Raven Bowens should really go to General Hospital as nüTrina, where she should have been all along. Carson Boatman, if he wants to, could surely find work at another soap. Howard should have been a Will Horton recast. And with Nicole off-canvas, I am not surprised by Ashley Puzemis’ exit as Holly.
This cut reminds me of when Matthew Ashford, Sarah Joy Brown, Christie Clark, and Patrick Muldoon were all cut at once for a ‘Plan to Save DAYS‘ headline.
I am surprised by two, and not by the others. Tate and Holly never worked for me. They had zero chemistry IMO>
Children cause troubles for soaps. Babies are part of heated storylines but once they are born… what do you do with them except trot them out at the holidays? Parenting never seems to be exciting storytelling. There may be an issue like Aria’s deafness (Y&R) but rarely or you see the girl on screen or hear about her growing up and issues her parents face. Writers may SORAS these babies into teens and then young adults, often with mixed results (Cane and Lily’s twins Charlie and Maddie). Then before you know it, we have a crowded canvas filled with too many characters… often with more coming thanks to tropes such as stolen twins, forgotten births, and unknown children from forgotten relationships.
Cane and Lilys twins being sorased was a huge mistake by Y&R. At least when Days sorasses, they make sure the parents are old enough to have teenages. Lily was only 29 and now with Cane 15 years younger, they need to bring thjose kids back, but be no older than when they left.
Especially considering their old playmates, Johnny and Katie, stayed littke kids while the twins went off to college.
Honestly I will miss all 4 of them hopefully with upcoming recasts of several others this won’t be a jarring loss. Days has always done well with the teens but with Nicole off the campus i felt Holly might be in the way out .I will also miss the Tate and Brady relationshipI . i will still remain a forever fan of days
I’m always sad to see young actors in LA lose their jobs without warning. It seems that DOOL is letting go the younger generation of the show. I think this is a mistake. As much as we love Marlena, Julie and Maggie, there needs to be a future generation. Carson is a Dimera and Sami’s son. We need a new generation and stop pulling from the glory days of Stefano. That ship has sailed as much as that was a great time with the show.
Carson is a good actor and I have no doubt will show up on one of the other soaps.
I totally agree with you.
I’m shocked by this decision. Firing four actors all in the younger age group is a huge mistake. If anything, they should be adding to the set by bringing back characters like Allie, Tripp, Claire, Parker, etc.
As for the actors, I would love to see Carson Boatman on GH as Spencer (since there’s no way Nicholas Chavez is returning), and Raven Bowens would be an excellent Trina recast. Leo Howard would be a great Reed on Y&R, whose absence has been glaring with the re-introduction of Victoria’s other children.
Boatman & Bowens are both in their mid 30s – far too old for Spencer and Trina (both 22-23).
Yeah, Raven Bowens actually auditioned for the role of Trina, but Frank told her she was older than what they were looking for.
I remember her mentioning that when she was on “State of Mind” with Maurice a few months back.
It was a mistake to hyperSORAS Tate & Holly in the first place. Both characters should still be in elementary school. Then they hired actors who were even older… the current version of Tate is pushing 30, for Hell’s sake! Tate will probably be missed more than Holly, from a character perspective, because he still has family in Salem.
Holly, on the other horn? Well, it’s not likely that we will ever see Nicole again, and the EggMan is never coming back, so it’s actually a great thing that they remove the last reminder of his existence from the canvas. And may his name never be mentioned again.
Johnny & Chanel that’s a bit more troubling. Allie is already gone. Will shows up maybe one or two days a year, and Sydney gets an offscreen mention of having “panic attacks” but hasn’t been seen in years. And of course Sami herself only puts in the occasional two day appearances. But this would effectively remove her entire family from the canvas. Sami’s kids are either Hortons or DiMeras as well as Bradys, so that further depletes the already shrinking numbers of the “core families” of Salem.
Because of Days’ ridiculous taping schedule it will take a long time for this all to play out on screen, obviously. But I don’t know how they’re going to keep this show going unless they plan on bringing in a bunch of random newbies. And considering all the flops they have tried and failed to force into this show the last year or two (Little Dougie the failed jewel thief, for example. Or Sophia the psycho and her FundaMENTAList family) I doubt that’s the solution. Not to mention there are already a number of recasts that have already been done, and taping for months now.
It’s looking like the only recognizable faces which will be left in Salem soon will be the handful of 70 – 80 somethings who remain from the show’s classic era. And the last few years haven’t been very good for that age group. Unfortunately, they aren’t all immortal like me.
So what’s the verdict leaks recast killed off they have done this twice with holly tate
Who is Eggman? And why should he not be mentioned?
That ridiculous retconned character who was created from Maggie Horton’s IVF procedure in 1983, but somehow old enough to father a child (as a practicing physician no less) in 1990. And the woman he got pregnant was living in Salem with Bo Brady at the time, but was never seen pregnant or with a kid. (Siomebody had the insane idea to retcon that kid into Maggie’s granddaughter, just because they both had red hair. I mean, I’m red myself, but that doesn’t mean I’m related to Maggie, right?)
That egg had already been scrambled and fed to my dragons by the time Chloe Lane returned and gave birth to Holly (born on Xmas, hence the name). And Chloe later admitted that she was just the surrogate, who agreed to carry the baby as a favor to Nicole and the Egg. Both of whom were dead by the time Holly was born.
Though Nicole came back of course… as often happens with Salem residents. Thankfully the EggMan is one of the few exceptions… though he’s made a few regrettable “ghost” appearances over the years.
What do you have against Daniel Jonas, he was a great character in Days, sorely missed.
If they had brought the guy on as a doctor and played the character normally, that would have been fine. Even when they had his whole sleazy thing of hooking up with Kate, her daughter Billie, and her granddaughter Chelsea, that was a little over the top, but hey, i’m the Devil, so I’m not one to judge a little sin now and then.
It’s just the ridiculous amount of time distortions they came up with to sell this character’s story. As I said, he came from the same IVF procedure that Maggie’s daughter Sarah came from. So he would have been born in 1983. But later we were told that he hooked up with Carly Manning in 1990 at a medical convention, somewhere in Europe and Melanie was the result. Even though Carly was living in Salem with Bo Brady at the time, and was never pregnant.
So this guy was a practicing physician AND fathered a child at 8 years old? Doogie Howser, eat your heart out!!
Most ironic thing about the whole EggMan distorted story arc, is that the dude actually DID resemble Neil Curtis, who would have most likely been his biological father, since he was from the same batch of embryos as Sarah. But of course they never met, because EggMan was born in Greece, because Victor somehow stole the embryo, and implanted it in some random woman.
Even though Victor himself was nowhere near Salem until 1985.
That’s a lot of time warps and distortions just to sell a character that most of the Days fans came to hate quite a bit. Mostly because they inserted him into just about every storyline. Not to mention into almost every female character, eventually.
daniel jonas was honestly one of the worst soap characters on days in many years him and maggie’s other kid summer
I will miss everyone of them and hope someone changes their mind!!
I think it’s BS because they are all great characters and a big part of Days imo. I would like to know the real reason they were let go. And I wonder how they are going to write out all those characters. Are they going to kill them all off, have them leave town, or will they be recast?
I am more than surprised about Carson. He is a wonderful actor and they need to keep him!!!!
So sad to hear this. Johnny is one of my favorite characters. Why do Days management do this?
I’m not happy about this…I love them all on the show.
I’m not surprised about Johnny and Chanel. Their characters are tired and need to be rested. I am surprised about Holly and Tate, as I thought they were being groomed to be the next Bo and Hope. I love them, even though pairing them meant days ignored their history (which I hate), as close as their parents Brady and Nicole were, we were expected to believe they did not know each other when they met in Salem. Also ignoring the fact that Tate as a todler lived in the Kiriakis mansion with Dad Berady, and was babysat by Grandma Maggie and Grandpa Victor. Holly’s Grandmother is also Tates Great GrandMother, so they are practically, though not technically cousins. Anyway very sad to hear they are out.
Hopefully Days will be bringing back other young cast members to fill the space. What about Steve and Kayla’s son Joey. It’s about time he was given a good story. I would also like to see Ally return, with her previous portrayer. Who was just lovely and an excellent young actress. Also Sydney DiMera. The casting people need to make sure they cast someone no older than early 20s. They made a mistake with Johnny casting someone over 25 to play Will’s younger brother. It didn’t leave much room, as he hit 30 and was just getting staid storylines. Johnny should have had more adventure.
All I can say wow this is so sad! These are 4 younger actors that should stay on the show as some of the cast are older. Days needs young super couples. I have been watching for over 49 years & at times I just do not get it. Do not kill them off & bring them back to life!
They are using SORAS too much. Making Ariana a college student? Tate and Holly? It ages the rest of the cast in a bad way. Marlena is a great grandmother for goodness sake. Days continues to have the pieces to have a great show. It needs to fix its writing problems. I don’t worry about Raven and Carson. They are too good to be unemployed for long.
I think it’s ridiculous that they were all let go. Days is getting boring.
again sad to lose them but why does everyone always feel when someone leaves a show they belong on gh or behind the gates it’s ridiculous
All four are extremely weak on the screen. Normally I would chalk it up to inexperience but, what it really is, is the total lack of proper rehearsal and preparation to the scenes. TPTB need to return to a slower production schedule and allow the directors and actors time to really flesh out the scenes. It would also allow them to correct mis-steps in the plotting sooner rather than later.
Many could have gone before at least three of these four. Leo, RAFE, Gwen, Cat, Alex, plus more. Carson and Raven have said they wanted to be there for the long haul. So let’s take two talented, popular, invested young actors whose characters are connected to legacy families and many other ties and fire them. Ashley is great and was wonderful when not paired with Tate (sorry Leo, talented but not for this role). Hopefully some will BRB as others have been in the past. It will be interesting if they will have decent exit storylines or just decide to up and leave in a minute as these have been handled in the past.
I love all 4 actors leaving Days, I have been watching for over 40 years and enjoyed them. Maybe they will bring them back in the future like they have been doing recently. For now, they will be missed.
I’m fuming! These are people who not only have families, & Bill’s to pay, but as EJ & Sami’s son, & Brady Black’s son, you don’t even think they would just get rid of you, all in a NY minute. I pray they send Tate & Holly to stay with Nicole awhile till they can come back, & maybe Johnny gets a job offer, & takes Chanel with him. They just let her character get pregnant, then fire her? WTH? Now, Brady loses John, Tate, & Rachel who is also leaving, all one after another!!!! Poor Brady.
- If DOOL had better writers for all of the characters instead of the same stories of kidnappings and demonic possession the actors would have more interesting story lines. I will miss the characters and wish them future success. Very sad.
Hey, I only had two storylines, 25 years apart! You can’t blame Days’ deficiencies on the Devil!
What a mistake you’re making..I’ve been a DAYS fan for 50 yrs.
Only reason I pay PEACOCK Is to watch.
These 4 young actors are so fantastic and authentic. Watch your ratings go into the tank.
A BIG MISTAKE for sure.
Hate to say it but Channel and Johnny are zzzzzz boring and the show in general REALLY needs some better writers – a few short years ago it was pretty good and now frankly I just FF through most of it
Not Happy! These two couples are the reasons I watch, get rid of gwynn and dimitri no interest in either of their stories
My question is this are they making
Room for the OG characters to return on a full-time basis ! Bo and Hope, I would love to see a storyline of the Brady family again but in this era and let’s get back to the roots of the original show.
I’m very disappointed to hear they fired 4 great actors Johnny n Holly n Tate Holly have great stories lines! I hope Days of our Lives read our comments if so please don’t do that!! Let them continue their craft n keep giving them good stories to perform as great young actors in sure there are many stories to tell why don’t you fired that annoying Joy n the recast of Javi !! I’m miss the the previous Javi he was good actor n if you don’t take them back I wish other soaps will get them good luck
There were all meh characters and were ok but I’d rather they focus on the major characters of dool.

Hayden Panettiere Remembered: ‘Guiding Light’ and More Stars Mourn Her Loss in Wake of Tragic Death

Tributes continue to pour in from the entertainment and soap opera community, and especially from former co-stars of Hayden Panettiere, who died on Sunday at the age of 36.
Panetierre was best-known to soap fans for her roles as as a young Lizzie Spaulding on Guiding Light and Sarah Roberts on One Life to Live, and as an adult in ABC’s music city primetime soap opera, Nashville where she starred as Juliette Barnes opposite General Hospital alum, Jonathan Jackson (ex-Lucky, GH and ex-Avery, Nashville).
As previously reported, Panettiere died on Sunday afternoon, August 16 in a home in Greenville, South Carolina. The coroner released an official statement on Monday, which read in part “no signs of trauma were discovered that would have contributed to the death. The cause and manner of death remain pending further investigation and the completion of additional studies.” First responders rushed to the scene after a 911 call about a woman who was unresponsive from an overdose and in cardiac arrest.

Now below, check out some of the heartfelt remembrances for the extraordinarily talented, Hayden Panettiere from several of her Guiding Light co-stars and more. Michael Fairman TV will continue to add to the list of tributes throughout the next few days as they become available, as well as keep you updated on any further developments in Panettiere’s death.
Beth Chamberlin (Beth Raines, GL): “Hayden played my daughter for 3 years. She was the most brilliant child actor I’ve ever seen. The things she could do, the way she could remember 20+ pages of dialogue, day after day. Even on days where the director would come out between dress and tape and make huge cuts to the scenes, Hayden, never once forgot a line or missed her blocking. The adults would, but not Hayden. I felt blessed to work with her. And always perfect in her playing of the scene.”
Connie Britton (Rayna James, Nashville): “This was Hayden. Bursting with brilliance, shining so bright. I have no words for this sad song. Just heartbreak.
I love you girl. Sleep easy now. 💔”
Tina Sloan (Lillian Raines, GL): “Hayden Panettiere was my granddaughter on Guiding Light. She died at 36 and was such a star.”
Rebecca Budig (ex-Michelle Bauer, GL, now Taylor, B&B): “I remember working alongside her..loved her and her family. She and Beth were spectacular together. So sad for her family and those who knew and loved her.”
Karla Mosley: (Dani Dupree, BTG) “This is awful awful news. Blessings to her soul and all who loved her.”

Bethany Joy Lenz: (ex-Michelle Bauer, GL) “There is nothing that posting pictures on the internet can do. I avoid it usually in moments like this. But Im here with my head in my hands and I don’t know what else to do in aside from praying for her soul, which I have done and will continue. I’m crushed. I knew the wild little blonde. Was she nine? Ten? I was eighteen. She ran through the Screen Gem studio hallways at 222 E44th St. laughing and playing games in between Guiding Light blocking and camera rehearsals. Long, unruly curls trailing behind her. She knew her lines and everyone else’s. Her intelligence was astonishing. She understood scenes and nuance and human struggle like no child I’d ever seen on camera. And she’d sit with you for a great conversation, then giggle and go play. We’d connect on and off over the years, like the cousin in the family reunion who got famous and life moved her away—but I always felt such joy seeing her when we were lucky enough to cross paths. We’d make a pact to talk soon. Lunch. Dinner. Somewhere we could curl up into a corner—but we never quite made it happen. I mostly stayed up to date through mutual friends.”
Lenz continued, “I don’t understand how this is real. Everything seemed to be turning around. She was coming BACK to life, wasn’t she? It’s too young and there’s still so much more life. And her daughter…. Hayden, you are surround by love. I’m sorry for every moment I didn’t reach out or check in. This can’t be real. These are moments of how I knew you, in glimpses over 26 years. I don’t know how to process this. I am praying for you to know the peace of God now and always.”
Brittany Snow: (ex-Daisy Lemay, GL) “I was lucky enough to play your sister for 3 years. I related to you so much in so many ways. Ways that I never even told you. Your talent was remarkable & so was your determination to be a bold, bright shining light. And you were. Always supportive, curious, funny and brave. You will always be remembered undoubtedly for your undeniable strength and spirit 💔.”

Charles Esten (ex-Deacon Clayborne, Nashville): Patty (Esten’s wife) and I are stunned and saddened at the loss of our dear and beautiful friend Hayden. I will never forget the first time I met her. In a sound stage office in Hollywood, I was finishing up my very first NASHVILLE audition. I had read two Deacon scenes before pulling out my guitar and singing two songs. I said my goodbyes and, hoping I’d done well, went to open the door to leave. Instead of swinging all the way out, the door bumped into somebody. Kinda hard.”
“To my complete surprise, It was Hayden Paniettiere, who – in full Juliette Barnes mode – had been listening with her ear to the door. Instead of looking even a little bit caught, her face instantly bloomed into the most beautiful smile. Eyes twinkling, she clapped her hands and said, “That was so good!!” I can promise you that in that moment, there was nothing in the world I needed to hear more than that. I told her that, along with my HEROES-watching family, I was already a big fan of hers, and that I was grateful for the very kind words. It was her turn to go in, so as I went to leave, I said a jokingly cocky, “See you on the set!”
“I was, of course, many auditions away from landing that incredible role. But when I finally did, and showed up in Nashville to start work, she walked right up to me, pointed in my face, and with that magical grin said, “See you on the set!” From there, we became fast friends, working very hard to play those 2 troubled Nashvillians, but always having fun and laughing a whole lot along the way. She was, of course, extraordinarily talented, infusing her larger-than-life character with all the heart, charisma, humor, whip-smart intelligence, and flat-out magic that were, alongside whatever troubles and pain she carried, a part of her own personal palette. What a great gift it was to act with her, sing with her, and to just be her friend. She was always extremely kind to my family, especially my wife, Patty, who I’m certain she liked even more than me.”
Together, we are heartbroken that she is gone, and praying for her family, and for all those who, like us, will miss and mourn her so dearly. God bless you, Hayden.
Rest In Peace and Light ❤️
Emme Rylan: (ex-Lizzie Spaulding, GL et al.)” So very sad. Rest in peace sweet soul.”
Bryan Craig: (ex-Morgan, GH) posted a text exchange via his Instagram story he had with Panettiere where they laughed about her making fun of his hat. He wrote: “Love you Hayden. Rest in peace Angel.” Craig later added, “Cherish the moments with people you love and care about. As cliche as it sounds. Send that text, get that cup of coffee, tell them you love them and you’re proud of them. You may not get the chance again.”

John Oliver Recaps His ‘Days of Our Lives’ and ‘General Hospital’ Soap Opera Experience on ‘Last Week Tonight’

Last Week Tonight host, John Oliver had his soap dreams come true on not one, but two long-running daytime dramas, heralding it his “hot soap summer” on the Sunday night, August 16 edition of his HBO series.
As viewers recall, Oliver’s tour of soap duty began back in March when he made a request and an offer to appear in any daytime drama that would have him with certain conditions, which included: having a ridiculous and over the top character name, a juicy storyline, and a slap.
Both Days of Our Lives and General Hospital came a-calling for Oliver, taking him up on his offer and in short order. Oliver appeared on GH in the role of the head of the WSB named Z on episodes airing July 2-6, and then on DAYS in the role of Salem’s chief water inspector, Devlin St. John, in episodes that streamed the week of August 11.

FIRST STOP, PORT CHARLES
On Last Week Tonight, Oliver shared that both soaps delivered, and then launched into a comedic send-up complete with clips from some of his scenes. Starting with General Hospital.
Oliver said, “To General Hospital’s credit, they met all my requirements and more. First, my character got to arrive by a helicopter flanked by a pair of armed goons. And I got to do a dramatic walk during which I bravely shot in the general direction of a guy who was already on the ground. It’s called being an action star, by the way, unless you’re me or Vin Diesel, you really wouldn’t understand. And then in my next scene, I revealed my true identity. (Oliver played the scene where Josslyn wakes up in a hospital bed with Z standing at the side of her bed introducing himself).
He continued, “As for getting slapped, well, they knocked that and me out of the park too, because it turns out that agent’s mother was not happy with me,” explained Oliver, as they cut to the slap of Carly Spencer (Laura Wright) in the WSB Port Charles bureau office on Z. Oliver screamed, “YES! It has everything! A slap, a dramatic closeup, and me doing a voice so wrong, it is genuinely embarrassing. That was my honest attempt at an American accent. I can’t tell you why it’s southern. I can only tell you I was trying my hardest.”

Photo: ABC
SECOND STOP, SALEM
Then, came John’s wrap-up of his role of Devlin St. John on Days of Our Lives, the town’s chief city water inspector. “It is on Days of Our Lives I appeared in scenes alongside soap legends like Jackée Harry (Paulina) and Susan Seaforth Hayes (Julie). And the Days of Our Lives team met my demands in a whole different way because instead of being an international spy boss, they wrote me a character a little more my speed.”
Cut to a clip of Oliver introducing himself as Devlin St. John to Rita. He explains, “I’m the only thing standing between this town and a catastrophic plumbing failure. A literal sewage apocalypse. They made me Salem’s Chief City Water Inspector, which let’s be honest, is perfect casting. If you’re going to bottle my essence and sell it as cologne, it would be called ‘Chief City Water Inspector.'”
DEVLIN’S WIG
The late night host also clarified all the reports, that the wig he wore for his DAYS character he actually brought from home. “Now, as for the hair, I agree, it’s absolutely incredible. It’s been reported this past week that it is a wig I brought to set from home. And while it wasn’t technically from home, we did actually provide that wig, and for good reason,” joked Oliver. “I’ve seen myself act. I knew the hair was going have to do 90% of the work. I’ll be honest, I was going for a healthy John Stamos (ex-Blackie, GH) look, but instead, it appears I ended up looking more like Tina from Bob’s Burgers.”

Photo: Corday Productions
“And if you’re wondering whether I got slapped on Days of Our Lives, not only was I slapped by a man wearing elegant silk pajamas (EJ), I also got to slap him, which felt utterly incredible. But wait, I was also stabbed with a syringe and not once, not even twice, but three different times. And if that wasn’t enough, this happened too.” At that point, Oliver played the clip of Rita using the taser on Devlin.
JOHN OLIVER LEAVES DOOR OPEN FOR A SOAP RETURN
The now late night star-turned-soap actor concluded his segment with, “Are you not entertained? Watching that makes me feel the way I assume Matt Damon felt after seeing the first cut of the Odyssey, both proud and impressed that my body could even do that. Which again, you wouldn’t understand. You’re not an action star like I am now. ”
