No official word yet on if The Bold and the Beautiful or The Young and the Restless submitted for competition, or decided to sit this one out. The previous two years, it was only DAYS and GH in the running for the award as well.

So, what do you think about Days of our Lives and General Hospital scoring WGA Award nominations for a Daytime Drama Series? Weigh-in via the comment section below.
I’m not sure this award is as prestigous as it sounds, the soaps don’t seem to committed or care if their nominated, and any award where DooL Ron C wins three consecutive time and one by default is a total joke.
Awards from your industry peers or union are not about prestige. They are about validation from fellow writers (in this case, writers for primetime and film) who know what goes into the job and can be each other’s harshest critics.
They know about execs interfering, network/studio mandates, budgets, accommodating actors and contracts and schedules and more, and they take that all into account.
They also judge only the writing — the dialogue, the structure, the impact — of the episodes from a professional standpoint, not the longterm storylines or any other aspect of the show itself, particularly things that are affected by budget and schedule (such as the DAYS writers being unable to easily course correct unpopular stories due to Sony and Corday requiring they tape so far in advance, which frustrates me, too).
A union or industry award from your peers is not about prestige or glamour. But they are meaningful and validating to the writers on a whole other level.
Other shows may have submitted but not been chosen, or not submitted due to rules involving the show needing to be primarily written by union members or something like that. I know many soap writers (including head writers) went ficore during the strike before this one and if they are in senior positions on staff at Y&R or B&B or something like that, it may prevent submission. Or maybe CBS/Bell TV have a different issue with them and refuse to submit. It doesn’t change what the award is and why it means a lot to a writer to win.
Congratulations to the nominees! However, I do hope GH wins. ;0)
