Days Of Our Lives
DAYS Peter Reckell letter to fans about month absence!

Days of our Lives, Peter Reckell ( B0) decided it best to address his fans with a message from him on one of the SONY DAYS Message boards. Peter has been asked by the NBC soap to take some time off due to the fact that he was going over limit of episodes on his contract, and the show right now is watching their bottom line. Here is what Peter had to say about clearing up all the rumors. “Kelly and I have heard from concerned fans that there seems to be an NBC newsletter circulating stating or implicating that I have asked for time off from the show. Please be aware that this is not true. I am off for a month or so, because I was in danger of going over the limit of episodes listed in my contract. They did not wish to pay me for doing extra shows, so Bo was sent out of town for a month in order for him to remain, I am told, present and center when I return.
However, the show is in negotiations right now with the network, so the deal is pretty simple: if you want Bo around and don’t like having him be away, write to the people in charge and let it be known, for that is always useful. What is not useful, however, is trying to sabotage a storyline the writers have planned for us actors… There’s apparently another rumour circulating, stating I have said in a recent personal appearance in Canada, that I do not enjoy working with Crystal Chappel (Carly).
That is not – I repeat NOT – true. I have never said that and this was probably just made up by people who are not happy about the Bo and Carly story. Again, if you favor one pairing more than the other, please write to the show in masses and let your opinions about the storylines known. That is the way to do it. Starting fake rumours about me is not. I much enjoy working with both Kristian and Crystal and besides, actors have no say in what the writers have planned for their characters.
So whether you like the story or not, the important thing is to keep writing to the show, because interest in the story – wether it is positive or negative – is what will insure we stay on-screen in the end. Thanks for passing this along to others, I appreciate it. »

‘Days of Our Lives’ Exec Explains How They Fit John Oliver’s Guest Stint into Production When They Tape Almost a Year in Advance

If you caught today’s Tuesday, August 11 episode of Days of Our Lives streaming on Peacock, you caught the debut of John Oliver in his Salem role as the chief water inspector in town named Devlin St. John.
The ‘Last Week Tonight’ host has been on a jaunt through the soaps over the past few months, first on General Hospital, where he played the WSB head named Z, to now the man who has got the goods on EJ DiMera.
In his first of three appearances (the remaining two stream August 12 and 14), Devlin meets up with Paulina Price (Jackée Harry), Julie Williams (Susan Seaforth Hayes), Rita Lesley (who takes a liking to Mr. St. Jonn), played by Maggie Carney, and EJ DiMera (Dan Feuerriegel). When Oliver arrives on the scene there is the wig, the quipping dialog, and a few soap stares and such along the way.

Days of Our Lives is the only American soap opera in production to tape so far advance, often 10 to 11 months, that it makes it difficult to get out of any storyline that is not clicking with the fans, or if the writers want to change course.
In addition, casting announcement of exciting returns or new characters while initially exciting, finds the viewers having to wait a very long time to see them on their screens. On the flip side, without this production model the soap opera, which will turn 61 in November, wouldn’t remain and that would be a serious blow to the fans, to the soap genre and all that it employs.
DAYS OF OUR LIVES EP KEN CORDAY ON THE PROCESS OF ADDING JOHN OLIVER INTO PREVIOUSLY TAPED EPISODES
When John Oliver made his pronouncement on his late night talk show back in March that he desired to be on a soap opera. DAYS executive producer, Ken Corday was going to make it happen. He explained to Vulture, how they were able weave in Oliver’s request and take him up on it, while making it look seamless into episodes taped so long ago.
Both Corday and co-executive producer and showrunner, Noel Maxam, intially went back and looked at previously taped episodes and story outlines to search for a potential story thread where they could place the character to be played by Oliver.
Corday shared, “We didn’t want to wait until next year for these shows to air, so we lifted (already produced) show and put him in. We basically had to shoehorn him into our schedule because we were so far ahead.” The longtime EP also expressed its challenges stating it, “was somewhat complex. It was basically, ‘We have to do this; let’s get it done.’ And we did. He was too good to pass up.”
THE CREATION OF DEVLIN ST. JOHN
In terms of the scripting and creation of Oliver’s character of Devlin St. John, it was a two-team effort. Corday explained that Oliver’s overall storyline was scripted by DAYS writers, but John Oliver’s team punched up some of the dialog.
“John and his producer had a lot of input in making the words fit the way he talks,” the EP recalled. “He’s (Oliver) very machine-gun in how he speaks, so that took a little work. But in the end, we both got what we wanted.”
In terms of the look of his DAYS character of the Salem chief water inspector, Oliver brought the wig he wears in his scenes to the set, and the DAYS hair and make-up team refined it for the cameras.
You can check out more behind the scenes moments of Oliver’s appearance on Days of Our Lives in the newly released video package from Access Hollywood that dropped last night below.
So, what did you think of John Oliver’s debut as Devlin St. John on today’s Days of Our Lives? Ken Corday sharing how the soap opera was able to shoehorn in Oliver’s scenes in previous shot episodes from months ago? Weigh-in via the comment section below.

‘Last Week Tonight’ Host John Oliver’s Role on ‘Days of Our Lives’ Revealed

After a few months of speculation, it has finally been revealed who John Oliver will be playing when he kicks-off his three episode guest stint on Tuesday, August 11 on Peacock’s Days of Our Lives.

As previously reported, Oliver will share scenes with EJ (Dan Feuerriegel) and Rita (Maggie Carney), and Mayor Paulina Price (Jackée Harry).
In addition, Soaps.com spoke with Dan Feuerriegel who shared that Oliver’s character name is none other than “Devlin St. John.” Feuerriegel also explained what the late night talk show wanted out of his Days of Our Lives experience noting, “He wanted the whole thing. From my recollection, he wanted a wig. He wanted a ridiculous name, and he wanted to slap or be slapped.” Feuerriegel then coyly admitted, “We did all the things. Everything you would think cliché in a soap, we did. I got slapped. I slapped.”
Jackée Harry previewed her scenes with Oliver to TV Insider, noting, “He is the water commissioner and coming to her with some scheme. He is trying to get one over on the city of Salem and she is not having it. And then he’s onto the next victim.”

Oliver wrapped his three-episode General Hospital stint as the head of the WSB (World Security Bureau) on-screen on July 6, after his sudden emergence onto the scene of a shoutout and making quite the entrance via getting out of an actual helicopter on the July 2 episode. Oliver was praised by the GH cast and its fans for his portrayal as it was dramatic with a few soap tropes thrown in for fun, during his visit, too.
Now, can he do it again on Days of Our Lives? This time as of this posting, DAYS has not revealed who Oliver actually isportraying within the story, but we do know he is wearing a dark wig on his head. However, according to Soaps.com per Dan Feuerriegel, Oliver’s character’s name is “Devlin St. John.”
Days of Our Lives executive producer, Ken Corday previously said in a statement, “When John Oliver said, ‘Call me, soaps, I’m available and willing to travel. I want to be a part of that world,’ our world, we had to heed the call!”
As reported, Access Hollywood was on the set the day Oliver was in Salem and spoke to the guest star plus his scenes partner, Dan Feuerriegel and Maggie Carney, where Carney said of John, “He is fast, of course, quick on his feet. He definitely likes to improvise — which I do, too — but within the scope of the scene. So that’s so much fun. He’s very present.”
Now below, you can check out the promo sighting of John Oliver at the end of the teaser, while earlier in the video spoiler: Theo (Tyler Joseph Andrews) threatens Rita saying, “If you don’t get out of my way, I will make you get out of my way.” Stephanie (Abigail Klein) does not likeAlex’s (Robert Scott Wilson) plan to move into Joy’s (AlexAnn Hopkins) room at the pub. Rafe (Galen Gering) shows up and reveals he has been following Dimitri (Peter Porte) and it appears Chanel (Raven Bowens) is going into labor, or, is she? And did Theo get to say goodbye to his mother, Lexie (Nikki Crawford) in time? Stay tuned.

Love the Carly/Bo/Hope storyline. I love all the actors and am enjoying a lot of the emotional scenes. I’m just going with the story and will support all three involved any way the story goes.
I’m going to really miss Peter though. This storyline has him interacting with half of Salem. I really loved his scene with Melanie in the hospital. He was so tender, amused and concerned.
Peter going absent from the storyline is crazy, especially when they are in the middle of it and the ratings are going up and up!
Appreciate Peter for coming out and clearing this up thoughI don’t think anyone believed for a second that he would have done any of what was insinuated.
I am enjoying his work opposite CC immensely. Never thought we would see Peter and Cystal share the screen again, let alone recreating the magic of Bo and Carly all these years later. Looking forward to seeing whether the show has the courage to examine the relationship between the two characters fully and give these two actors a chance to explore the wonderful chemistry they shared in early 90’s.
Hope Peter isn’t gone too long. Days of Our Lives needs Bo Brady. End of discussion.
I have really been enjoying bo and carly and the old scenes from the 90’s; so much that I have been looking up more of the old scenes on youtube. I had forgotten what a great couple they make & their chemistry, then and now, is incredible. I am all for a future with bo & carly together. Besides, the ratings have tremendously improved with Carly back in Bo’s life. I know Bo & Hope had a lot of years together, but, I think their relationship isn’t what it once was. It’s boring, painful, the chemistry isn’t what it once was. It’s not like Carly’s character came out of nowhere. They were a hot couple in love all those years ago when Hope was believed to be dead. And now Carly is back on the scene, the chemistry is still as hot as ever, & CC is a fantastic actress & her scenes with PR are what I look forward to. Please keep CC & PR together!
I love the Bo and Carly story and I think it is very hateful and spiteful that any fans of Bo and Hope would say that Peter Reckell does not working with Crystal Chappell. How hateful can one group of fans be that is so horrible. Peter is a good guy and will work with whomever he is given material to work with. These shows are fighting for their lives and for any one group of fans to do that is digsusting. It says alot about “Bo and Hope” fans very digusting.
The whole storyline involving Carly’s return to Salem and her daughter has raised DOOL to a much higher level. Carly’s story would have been nothing without Bo. Her relationship with Bo is so unique and special on so many levels. The chemistry is amazing and effortless.
I certainly hope that Peter returns quickly as there certainly would be a huge whole without Bo on Days.
I sincerely hope that Peter’s departure is temporary. I too am enjoying the Bo/Carley/Hope storyline. As a forever Bope fan, I do not hate Carley. In fact, I realize that bring excitement back to Bo and Hope there must be bumps in their road..(ok. so there have been a LOT of bumps). But Crystal is a remarkable actress and I am enjoying the storyline. I actually am probably in a minority but I also wish Justin and Hope would grow closer…just to give Bo something to think about. 🙂
I don’t like Bo..carley together….It will always be Bo….Hope on that show!
bo and carly all the way ….dool supercouple!!!
HOPE AND BO ARE THE BEST COUPLE PLEASE BRING THEM BACK TOGETHER THE SHOW ITS NOT THE SAME BEEN WATCHING OVER THE SHOW40YEARS /MARLENA/JOHN ARE GONE.STEVE /KAYLA/AND ALL THE OTHERS
I Love Bo and Hope, Ive watched them since i was a young child. Days of our lives wouldnt be the same without them. I hope they get back together. They are that all time great love story.Bo and Hope are the reason i cant miss a day of watching days of our lives. They have that special chemistry no one can replace them. They are and always will be the best. Best soap opera best actors best together .Bo and Hope make days exciting, heart breaking, hopefull, happy, loving, tragic yet so real to life.Bo and Hope keep me interested.
I HAVE BEEN A FAN OF DAYS SINCE I WAS 10. PETER RECKELL IS A GREAT ACTOR AND NOBODY CAN TAKE THAT FROM HIM. HE IS MY ALL TIME FAVORITE AND NOTHING WILL CHANGE THAT. AS FAR AS BO AND HOPE, THEY ARE THE ULTIMATE COUPLE. THEY NEED TO BE REUNITED AS THEY WERE THE HOTTEST COUPLE ON DAYTIME. THEY NEED TO FIND THEIR WAY BACK TO EACHOTHER. PETER, YOU ARE THE BEST. HURRY BACK I MISS THAT CUTE SMILE OF YOURS. GOD BLESS YOU.
Hi hope they keep Bo and Carly together, it is arefreshing change!
I truly understand and love the Carly Character. I really think DOOL needs to keep Hope and Bo togerther to become the Matriarchs of the Show.
i love seeing you everyday.just wish the writers wouldnt keep you and hope apart so long this time.cant wait for the family reunion!!!!
love the show ,
laura
I am so glad Bo will be coming back. I am also thrilled it is to Hope’s voice and not Billie’s. I love the pair. I can’t wait to see what happens next.
You tell them Peter. I will write the show. Enjoy your time off. You will be missed.
