For the first time, Days of our Lives fans have heard some deeply personal thoughts from Deidre Hall (Marlena Evans) on the death of her former co-star, Drake Hogestyn (John Black). Hall sat-down inside the Days of our Lives social studio, and talked with Access Hollywood as the entertainment news series visited the set of the soap opera for its 59th anniversary celebration last Friday.

Deidre spoke on how she, and the cast, are coping with this huge loss for the show and for each of them, personally. “I miss that he doesn’t get to come to work. I miss that he doesn’t get to play with us,” she shared. “He loved being here, and I missed that for him.”

In one of the more emotional moments of the segment, Deidre expressed, “I loved him so. Marlena loved him so. They loved each other so.”  For more than 38 years, Hall had been Drake’s on-screen leading lady until Hogestyn’s battle with pancreatic cancer took him off the show, and ultimately until he died back in September of this year.

It’s so unreal at times that Deidre says that she will often be sitting on the set and realizes John Black is not there with her. Then, she will  has a heartbreaking revelation “Oh, my Gosh! Drake is gone.”

Hogestyn began his journey on Days of our Lives in 1986 when he was cast on the show, and in fact, after his screen-test with Hall, the producers asked her which of the actors she liked the best. They were hoping she would say Drake (which was their choice), and she did, and the rest is history.

I haven’t watched DOOL since the 80’s but Drake got more and more handsome over the years. RIP

I don’t know how they are keeping it together the most gorgeous man inside and out . A cancer survivor myself this just makes me so sad

He is definitely good looking , but time will tell if he fits. To me right now he is too pretty. We will see and I always think she overacts
I really don’t care for her as this character. I think she was too quick to always jump into bed. Just doesn’t do anything for me

Who are you talking about? They are discussing missing Drake Hogestyn.

Deidre is still so gorgeous I just love her and I loved Drake and love Days.

Will miss him alot,in the show. Great actor.
