General Hospital
Departed Series Star Anthony Geary Leaves The Door Open At GH: “If The Story Is Interesting To Me And It Works Out, I May Come Back To The Show For Six Weeks Or So.”

After all the goodbyes, tributes, and the final episode of Anthony Geary’s (Luke Spencer) on Monday’s General Hospital, there is still another twist that the eight-time Daytime Emmy winner leaves behind.
In a feature that ran this morning from Lynette Rice at Entertainment Weekly, Geary informed her that he would still be open to the possibility of returning to GH, if it was the perfect storm for him when he related: “If the story is interesting to me and it works out, I may come back to the show for six weeks or so.”
General Hospital’s executive producer, Frank Valentini echoed Tony’s sentiments by sharing: “It’s not a question of him being able to stay or come back. It just has to be a good enough, solid to bring (him back).”
Contrary to popular belief, the iconic star says he is not completely over playing his Port Charles alter-ego: “I’m not sick of Luke. He’s an infinitely fascinating character.” Geary went on to elaborate saying, “I really don’t think we have exhausted what he can do. It depends on the writers and how far they want to look. We had just been repeating ourselves for a while. I had become a dad, a grandfather. There was no way I was going to stick around to become just another guy. If they come up with something, a twist, I would come for it.”
So, what do you think about hearing what Tony had to say? Would you like to see him return at some point? If you were writing a story for Luke to come back, what would it be? Or, do you think you just leave the character off the canvas for good and never to have him return ? Comment below!
Funny he says this after Carlivati gets kicked.
Noooooooo!!!!!
I am finally watching again solely because Anthony Geary has left. Please don’t come back!!!!!
Puhleez!!! I was doing the happy dance until I read that. Do us a favor and stay gone.
Yeah like Tony is or was the problem with GH! Look around, Nina Franco, Nathan, Denise, TJ, Sabrina or Morgan ring a bell?
ugh… Oh lord, he’s back! (well, close to being back…)
Go watch Days!
that’s precisely… what I already do!!
You and a HECK of a LOT of others who have been driven away from GH as evidenced by the ratings. I know I’ve stopped watching and I have loved the show for decades. Yes, Nina, Franco, Denise, Dr. O, Kiki, Madelaine are reasons why. But SO is Luke and TG’s egotistical selfishness in protrayting him.
Yup
Was hoping he would bow out gracefully like Susan Flannery or Peter Reckell.
But no, this is the egomaniacal “I am God” Anthony Geary. Ugh!
Lmao @ Carlos! He wouldn’t know grace if it bit him in the azz. If they let him come back to this show after he bragged about fighting with GH’s writers since the 90’s, then they deserve whatever happens to this show.
good actor – good character – his storyline, as others, were going down hill on a quick slide…I’ll welcome the old friend back when he and the storyline are ready
Maybe the stories will get better.
Carltini fan – it is no secret that Tony Geary was more than irritated with Carlivati.
His storylines were terrible with the most ridiculous one dragging out the Jake/Jason identity forever.
Not happy one bit with this late-breaking news. Not one bit.
STOP IT JUST STOP IT..enough with the over the hill hero/anti hero and send sonny into sonset..see what i did there…
We need to see if Michael Fairman can make sure that Anthony doesn’t come back. He has a lot of pull in the soap world and he is always watching out for us, keeping it fair.
Wow I can’t believe all the tg bashing. Personally would love to see him back at some point
I wonder if his tune has changed because RC was fired. There was definitely no love loss between him and RC. He didnt like the way he wrote. I miss him already!
Yeah, his tv guide interview made that very obvious.
It could certainly have something to do with it, but to me it’s a little like the retiring QB. He gets tired, beat up & sore during the season and wants to retire. Then after some time at home to refresh, he misses it and wonders if he should play another season. It happens all the time in sports and I think it happens in acting, too. It probably helps thinking that the writer he doesn’t like is gone. A worthy six week arc could be better than the horrible ending they gave him.
Very true. And it was bad.
I think TG is over-rated, and has been for a longtime. He is a ham, but he is also responsible for the poor storytelling for his own stories, he has the authority to interfere, dictate storyline etc. He did it for his own departure, so if it is fine to fire RC for poor storytelling, I think it is fine to prevent TG from ever returning to GH. He has done more than RC to put the nails in GH’s coffin. And it was RC, not TG who helped to save the show two years ago.
Luke, glad you are gone and stay gone
yes megan he needs to go go go..you ain’t gone yet? GO
What else is there for him to do? Perform Jihad on Port Charles? Open up a wh*rehouse? Create his own brand of booze?
well lulu could have some type of medical crisis then he could come back for 6 weeks for that type of storyline……………jmo
Maybe Jennifer Smith just got more appealing. Or Helena gives him a call. Will he bring some Nepali refugees to live with the Quartermaines?
Alice would be so jealous of those refugees spending quality time with her Mr. Luke. 🙂
Seriously! How much more of a “twist” does Geary need?! He’s already been an alcoholic, had DID, tried to bomb his own family, ran over his own grandson, killed his own parents .. is there anything else Luke can do to shock us? NOTHING would surprise me now. Unless he wants to atone for his big FU to Luke&Laura fans, I hope he stays gone.
Maybe he could return to claim the mayor job and actually perform it this time.
I suppose you are pissed at Prince Charles for remarrying after him and Di were divorced? Get over the whole Laura thing!
Timmm, Prince Charles & Di were a real-life couple. Luke&Laura are our “fairytale” couple. The supercouple of ALL supercouples! They have to end up together. 30 million people would NOT have tuned in if they thought that Luke was going to end up with Tracy.
If Jane decides to exit the role of Tracey– which I hope is NO time soon– he would probably come back for her exit story and have the characters leave together. If they find a descent recast for Lucky or Ethan and have an actual good story (not that silly mess of what was supposed to be an epic adventure) he could return.
Yes, he would return for Jane in a heartbeat. Lucky was played by Greg Vaughan before and he did a wonderful job. As for Ethan, not necessary, his history isnt that important.
Not happy about this one bit.
Can’t we send him to “Days of Our Lives” or one of those web soap operas. Not happy about this at all!
No thanks, Tony. Bridges have been burned with at least this fan.
I completely understand, Lana and feel the same way.
However, I understood Geary’s comments to mean that way down the road he would consider making a couple of cameo appearances if the writing was there.
Maybe the beautiful exit from which we were cheated could finally be delivered.
Understood. Maybe I just need a long break from TG. ha.
It’s probably best if he stays where he is and basks in his decision to begin this new chapter. It sounds like he doesn’t feel complete unless he can complain about the LnL days. He has (for the most part) gotten his way with the writers in the 30+ years since LnL. Maybe HE is the one who should “get over it”. And I say this a Tony Geary fan. It pains me to read interviews where he sounds so resentful, year after year. Find contentment in your new chapter Mr. Geary, please.
Well said, Kathy.
I have a love hate relationship with Mr Geary with which he is blissfully unaware.
However, I completely agree with you here.
There’s a huge Vincent Van Gogh festival in Amsterdam. Maybe he could find something inspirational in that? Has he cut off his own ear yet, and returned to Port Charles with a whore that he declares the love of his life? And there is Van Gogh’s final ending. Luke could return as a great misunderstood artist and Tracy takes care of him. Until….
Enough alredy…..exit stage right……like now!
*already
Sometimes in life you just need to move on, try something new….
Sounds exactly like what Tony has said in interview after interview.
Yet, Tony Geary continues to come back. It’s not for a “right story”. He comes back for the check.
He’s a decent actor. He should spread his wings and try something different. Heck. he’s not getting any younger. What’s he got to lose?
After all that media coverage on his retirement, and now this lack of credibility wishy washy talk, he has lost my respect. The country, the nation, the world gave him a very nice send off into retirement and now trying to flip the switch on everyone who was happy for him and glad to see him ride off into the sunset into a well earned retirement life, for him to lose his credibility and have no ounce of self respect in him, I hope he stays in retirement for good. Anthony Geary does not deserve the respect of the world anymore. Disgusting and so disregard for those who gave him the time of day.
He’ never said he was retiring. He said he was leaving GH to pursue other roles since he’d played Luke for so long. I doubt ” the world” is very concerned what Tony Geary does with his career…and I think it’s his prerogative to change his mind…or perhaps want to keep the door open. And, I see nothing he said or did to incur anyone’s wrath. He’s an actor…his decisions shouldn’t have any impact on anyone else’s life other than to miss the character or not.
Totally agree with you, Rebecca. So much hatred towards TG. They can all kiss his and my pearly white rears. I agree with him on LnL. They had their time and I think that even Genie would agree that the story had played itself out. It was destroyed years ago by writers who had no clue how to write for these characters and completely destroyed them. It has never been the same since then and I happen to love Luke and Tracy together. Second of all, you are right, it doesn’t affect any of the fan’s lives whatsoever. He didn’t say he changed his mind. He said he was leaving the door open and leaving as a possibility. THAT IS SOMETHING HE SAID ALL ALONG!! Wake up people, and get real. He didn’t diss you, LnL fans. He just wanted to do something different and keep it interesting for him and for you…
Rebecca, I blame Tony Geary for climate change and for the fact that I have gained ten pounds.
Thanks, Dawm it gets beyond tedious to hear the “outraged fans” about what an actor on a show says and does. I understand that many of us have invested time watching…we’ve developed likes, attachments, etc. I have my gripes, i like continuity, realism and good characterizations, stories. But at the end of the day it’s a TV show. Lol, people have to calm down!
Harry,.wasnt it the Casdadine’s responsible for climate change? I heard they were working with Gore. So, no. You can’t blame Tony. Perhaps you were so riveted watching the Fluke story you hunkered down daily with chips and Crispy Creams, If so, yes…you can blame him. By the way…the weight looks good on you,
TG has done quite a bit to earn the ire of fans, including as I mentioned in an earlier post, insist on dark storylines for his character, rewrite his own text, and it was he who wanted the send off he received–no flashbacks, and certainly no laura. He has also regularly shown his disdain for the show and its fans, though somehow some people–many fewer than before thankfully–revere him.
He has no sense of what most fans find entertaining, and personally I think he is also over-rated. I don’t get the love for this character, never have and never will.
TG can stay gone
Finally, someone with an open mind!
Linda- Tony Geary said he is going to do some acting away from GH. It’s not a crime for him to want to do other projects.
GEEZ KELLY..the actor is gone..the character is overcooked and the landscape needs to move away from him like it did to him in the eighies..time to move on and make GH a new thing for a new era…bring in Ellen Wheeler as executive producer NOW NOW NOW…she can even make Altman/Passanante look good.
Enough already! They made such a big deal about him leaving now stay gone! His character has been useless! Go while you still have some dignity left! Stop only doing it for the money!
Ok, writers, get busy. Any clues as to what Tony would consider an interesting story? I would love to see more with Ethan, Robert Scorpio – Indiana Jones kind of stuff.
Yes Vicki, I agree with you. Please bring back Tristan Rogers as Robert Scorpio. Bring back Ethan and Holly. That would make our day, for all soap fans.
I really wish we could get Ethan back! NP really grew on me during his stint. But, alas, he has a good thing going in prime time. well deserved…
He’s certainly not doing much of anything on YnR
He could stay gone. According to Nathan Varni from a twtitter post, apparently TONY GEARY didn’t want any flashbacks for his last episode. So you know where to direct your ire at. And anyone that doesnt want to film their last scenes with Genie Francis can pick up there gift bag at the exit door.
So what if Tony did not want flashbacks? The buck stop with Frank Valentini and ABC, not with Tony Geary.
Had they written a decent goodbye scene for Luke and Laura complete with a smattering of flashbacks, Tony would have gone along with it.
It’s absurd that NV is trying to blame Geary for the bad writing and poor executive decisions which were made.
He isnt blaming anyone. A fan asked a question and he answered. And from my humble opinion, Tony Geary got what he wanted. And that I cant blame on writing. But hellz yeah, I also blame FV and ABC for giving him that much power to run things. On one hand Tony loved the story when it was going the way HE wanted. He only started to hate it when they tried to redeem him, which where is where most of the friction started. There is blame to go around from everyone, ESPECIALLY TG. There are many more hands involved in this show from Higher Ups in the Mouse House than just Ron C.
Headwriting a show isnt like it used to be. So many corporate agendas, episodes guarantees have to be met, plus accommodating every network note and change that they want. So at the end of the day what starts off in the writer room vs what we see onscreen can be very challenging. And to be honest there are only 2 soaps left with a semi-full control. And thats BB & Days cause they arent owned outright by the network.
The writing may have been uneven at times, but Im not gonna buy that this was all Ron C’s fault. And MANY soap press folks are saying the same. Plus I dont take much stock from folks that contradict themselves in interviews. Months ago he loved Fluke, now he hates it. And Im not buying the whole he was still employed. Many actors on soaps have voiced displeasure when they werent happy with Storyline. So for me, Im happy he’s gone, cause now SL’s dont have to be dictated by his vacations, and all of his wants and needs. The show can get back to finding its center and core. And with him gone, I truly believe the show can possibly do that.
Ifind it interesting that everyone is to blame for the lousy stories of Luke but TG, even though he is one of the writers of his on stories and has story approval and clearly also enough clout to insist on stories without Laura.
I agree, Valentini should not be catering to him let alone any other actor, but Tony has writing authority etc in his contract, and so he is also to blame for a terrible story. Many of them in fact. But and this is why I do not respect him–he never takes responsibility. Well, he is responsible and I hold him to it.
Tony owes Genie nothing, she is only known now from once being with Tony..
The LnL saga, the couple is dead and buried..
Tony went on for decades without Laura to make a legend for himself, a soap icon with more Emmy’s than any other, he did that all by himself with no Laura .. 😉
The Laura character has stayed noticeable for once being with Tony ..
To whom are you speaking, SU00? Not every blog about Tony Geary should be an invitation for you to bash Laura.
It’s interesting how you keep saying that, su0000—and how it doesn’t become any more true each time you say it.
Trying to convince yourself, maybe?
(Just to remind you of the actual facts, because some of us have actually been around while it was all going on: Genie was the undisputed young star of the show before Tony joined and was extraordinarily popular, she contributed as much to the early 80s success of the show as he did, and she’s been quite successful outside of GH independent of Tony. Tony’s been extremely successful—including the string of Emmys you mention; Genie’s been extremely successful; they’ve both been extremely successful, both together and apart, and the success of either has generally not depended on the other. Except that I do have to point out that when Tony came back in the early 90s without Genie, it didn’t work—the show had to persuade Genie to come back in order to make his return pay off in the ratings. Which it did–once Genie returned.)
I much prefer Laura to Luke, and Genie to TG. The men on this show for years were given favourable treatment and frankly, I haven’t liked a luke storyline since the end of LnL. He turned Luke into a self-centred, grating, ungrateful lout. I was happy to have Laura away from him but even happier now to have her on the show and Luke gone. He needs to stay gone.
As for who is more important to the show–Laura was always more important, but she left when not given the same treatment as Tony ie the privilege to leave for long vacations. It is the same reason that Vanessa Marcil and Tamara Braun left–Maurice, Tony, also Ingo–they all had much better contracts even when these women were as popular if not more. It is called misogyny and sexism.
Amen su baby!
Michael (not Fairman) and Megan, RIGHT ON!!! You are so right! Actually, Genie & Vanessa (not sure about Tamara) were much more successful (in terms of TV) than Tony or Maurice. I don’t think Tony liked Wendy Riche or Claire Labine because they were extremely talented women who wouldn’t take his B.S.
And Laura was extremely popular before TG was on GH. He was lucky to be paired with her – not saying he didn’t have his moments (he can be fun to watch from time to time), though he can definitely suck the oxygen out of the room when he’s on (kind of a selfish actor, wouldn’t you say!).
I’m so glad we have Genie and Roger Howarth on the show now – and NO Tony!
Genie is only known now for being with Tony? Sorry but that is just WRONG.
Unlike Tony who was a failure in any other endeavor BUT Luke, Genie was in two very successful mini series (Bare Essence and North and South) and also has a successful film franchise with Hallmark (the Note series). She also has a family.
Well, well, well! Talk about regrets! Looks like TG is getting cold feet about his long-voiced desire to shed the “burden” of Luke. Will wonders never cease!
But wait–Laura DID get that letter from Luke address to “Angel.” S0 . . .the stage is set for a redo.
But is it too late for that “redemption” of Luke (that TG always professed to hate)?
A good story could do a lot towards that end.
Would it be too much to hope that TG has suddenly gotten that “perspective” needed to appreciate what he had–and what the fans loved? Could TG ever reach back in that acting bag and find the funny, unique, playful Luke we loved so much?
Don’t know! Maybe he thought about what Genie said in her “farewell” video to him: that she hoped he could find a way to be proud of his work?
Retirement does a number on most people, it has been my observation. Suddenly, one can long for what they took for granted and thought they hated so much or wanted to be rid of. That old adage that you don’t know what you had until it’s suddenly gone could apply here.
Remember Genie has said she wanted to work full time now that her children are grown. The possibilities . . . .! Perhaps Luke and Laura could run Kelley’s Diner–remember how funny and wonderful TG as Luke was cooking. Could he find that joy again? It’s not impossible!
And, in the back of my mind is playing the idea that it might just have rubbed TG the wrong way when the audience was now wishing him GONE and when David Letterman was mocking the Fluke character–and “The Soup” was playing the clips of TG playing his father and they elicited humor. Gotta hurt that ego–anyone’s ego but most especially TG’s who always lets everyone know about his acting talents and the fact that the thought, early on, that he “deserved” the Emmys he won–and thought he should have won more early on. Maybe the tenacity and “hunger” he had as a young actor is still there and he would, once again, like to be popular with the audience and to go out on top someday rather than slinking away as he has done this time–with the hounds on his heels, as it were. Maybe he is just stubborn enough to “climb that hill” he climbed before.
I don’t know though;does he still have the fire in his gut to do so? He would have to prove that once more to me, the longest and once the most tenacious of his fans
and the most ferocious devotee of his work–and certainly the most fierce defender of the Luke and Laura love story, the romance of all time! Amen!
PS Didn’t Genie Francis look simply lovely in that aqua dress today? One of her best colors. I’m waiting for the day she wears that beautiful lavender color she wore so often as young Laura–and, of course, waiting to see her in the hot pink color of the dress she danced in with “Luke” in Wyndham’s department store–how very “fascinating”!
Love, love, love your post, Nancy. It’s very wise while managing to be optimistic and forgiving.
And yes, Genie was absolutely stunning today.
I sure hope she gives Lizzy the what for for keeping Jake’s identity secret.
Laura is always cooler than the other side of a pillow when she has to admonish someone for bad behavior.
Did you hear Laura tell Carly that she had met with Elton for lunch or something? Awww….I would love it if they brought Elton back. He was so funny.
After Laura’s nice entrance when she first came back, the clothes she got were awful. This was the first day with better clothes, not perfect but much better. How is she supposed to survive? How does she make money?
Yeah, the Soup’s spoof of Tim Spencer made me laugh out loud. Ridiculous.
As another soapster said, “If Tony has such trouble with the writing and needs to control everything about the character he plays, then he needs to rent a theater, right a play and star in it.” Yep. On the money.
I would never want Tony to say never !
We’re pretty used to his history with the long hiatus.
I loved Luke paired with Laura back in the day – those were the stories of my youth ; as Laura was the love of Luke’s youth.
But Tracey ……she IS in my opinion Luke’s end game.
If GH were to end I’d want those two together.
Okay, now bring back Robert Scorpio and let the greatest bromance in soap history resume!
Robert needs to get in Sonny’s grill and “challenge” the mob fans..since Tony believes in challenging the audience. (sarcasm) From a writing and acting standpoint, I would love to see the strain that storyline would put on Robert and Luke’s friendship. And if Robert hooked up with Laura (even out of spite if nothing else) that would be priceless too.
hey Harry 🙂
I was thinking the same..
IF the new writers are the bringing vets type, and Tristin , for one, returns and its a good adventure story Tony will return for the story..
but–
from reading of the two new writers they do not do history and they do not do adventure..
They are snooze writers, so ya know…
hey! perhaps they will bring their Music Box story with them and Tristin and Tony can bring it to its end on GH LOL ahha! After all that year long story has never had an ending..
Or- Tristin and Tony could solve the Delia killing, that story has been going for years..
Those endings and are still open to continue on in GH !!
That would be soap opera heaven, Harry! So many vets could/should come back. I would just lower expectations…even with our favorites the show would never be the same as years ago. As they say…”you can’t go home again…”..
Thanks again, Harry–I agree!
Darn just when I thought it might be safe to start watching again! What he ran out of scotch already? Well my friend called this one when I get back home I owe her lunch.
Ha! Kay, that was very funny.
Please shut up already and go away! No return. Ever.
Just keep looking in your mirror everyday and you’ll stay in touch with your biggest fan. Here’s a tip: You’re not as great as you think you are. The guy on The Soup playing your “ghost dad” was a more convincing actor than you.
Finally, Luke was nothing without Luke & Laura!
I’m trying to be kind, but he just won’t shut up and go away! Now he’s already talking return?! No. Just. No.
Ha ha ha!! MB, love your rant.
Get over it, Tony will be back soon. Please go take your meds, you sound miserable.
Oh come on Jenny. I love Geary too, but MB has a point.
Moreover, I doubt Geary is coming back any time soon. I am sure that if it happens it ‘s a long time away and by then people might have gotten over their Fluke/Luke/Geary overdose.
Sounds like you missed a dose, or twelve, yourself.
Boes, your snark was unwarranted and rather baffling.
Jenny, I assure you I am appropriately medicated and very happy now that TG isn’t holding GH hostage in service of his overblown ego. There’s an old saying, “No one can miss you if you never leave.”
Well said
Lol! Best post ever.
Bring Anthony Geary back. Give him an explosive storyline to sink his teeth into. This soap needs an inventive writer and It was not RC. Save the character of Luke who only Anthony Geary can do. Save this soap!
whatever…sigh!!!
I think Tony did some damage by making some less than cordial comments about the writing staff, some of the actors, etc. in his exit interviews. I understand that he wants to be known for his acting, but he came across as a diva in his exit interviews. I know he got tired of hearing about the Luke/Laura wedding, but it is a part of daytime history. Deal with it. It helped make you a lot of money and turned you into a superstar. It seems that celebrities who complain about fame need a dose of reality.
If an actor chooses to leave or retire, let the show focus on other actors and storylines. It did not help DOOL that Eileen Davidson came back for less than two weeks. It made everyone realize how much she is needed on the show. If Luke comes back for a short story arc, it makes the holes of a show seem more apparent.
I thought everything about Luke’s exit from Port Charles seemed rushed. Did Lucky disappear into the night? The final scenes with Tracy wrapped up too much story in one day. His scenes with Laura did not make anyone want more.
I wish Tony Geary the best, but as I have always said, “Don’t bite the hand the feeds you.”
Cue the Clash song Should I Stay Or Should I Go
No thank you; his exit was long overdue, much like Ron’s, and a re-visit should not be made.
You people are really mean, yes it is interesting this flip side, but I love Tony. He also said months ago, when first announced that he was leaving they are leaving it open for a return. He really wanted the character to go up in a bang but they said no. If he does come back for a short return, I am thinking it will be several years.
I agree Bonnie, some people commenting act like they never made a decision and then considered an alternative!
I think it’s more about the arrogance toward the fans, the vitriol he spewed in his interview with TV Insider, and the fact that he insists that it’s more about his fulfillment than it is about fans of the show. Fine. More power to him. I for one am sick of his ego and his attitude that he is the greatest gift to acting ever to hit the scene and that he owes us nothing other than what HE deems a good performance. Good Luck Tony, don’t let the door hit you on the way out!
Be gone Already, Sorry!!!!!!
Oh for heaven’s sake… I have a new medical condition known as Tony Geary Fatigue Syndrome. Hasn’t he been leaving for like a year? I’m tired of what he thinks about Luke and about himself, I’m tired of what his co-stars think about Luke and about him. Now he’s gone all of 5 seconds and trying to push the door back open when he chose to slam it shut himself. And what will happen when he comes back for 6 weeks and doesn’t want to revisit Luke and Laura? We’ll go through all this again. His ship has sailed, he had an unbelievable run — now will he please enjoy his retirement and let GH move on.
ahhha!
I said;
At sometime somehow Tony would return, of course that is why Luke was not killed off he is now searching for himself, a new Luke 🙂 Just how Tony planed it..
It was obvious to me.
Tony will be back if and when his vet playmates return to play with him..
Ron would have gave his best to bring the old vets back, with the 2 new writers never going to happen.. They don’t do history (I heard that said many times)
So- It is a good possibility that Tony/Luke will not be back for awhile lol
It’s all in the soap game.. Everyone,
relax ..
su0000, your on fire! I agree with you, if they bring back Frisco and Scorpio, Luke is on board baby!
I would watch Tony Geary read the phone book ( do they still make those? ).
Wonderful news, I hope Tony Geary comes back. Give Luke Spencer a shocking storyline, maybe Luke can become a cross dresser lol. Why not? No sex change please.
After that exit…forget it. Time for Genie and others to shine!
Enough already. He left aNd should stay G O N E
Could he have given us the chance to miss him first?
WOW, I WOULD LOVE TO SEE TONY COME BACK IN A GREAT STORY WITH ETHAN ; LUCKY AND ROBERT SCORPIO,GOING UP AGAINST STEFAN TO GET ROBIN BACK HOME TO PATRICK AND EMMA. NOW ANNA AND HOLLY IN THE MIX WOULD BE GREAT TOO. NOW THAT WOULD MAKE A GREAT STORY.
Kill me now! I am fine with everyone but Luke coming back.
I cannot stand Ethan!
After how disrespectful he was about the writing team in his most recent interview, ABC ought to say ‘No thank you Tony’. What an ungrateful a-hole after all the years he’s had at GH. I hope he never comes back.
Well apparently they agreed with him about “the writer” since they just fired him…so I guess their termination trumps his ” disrespect.”
I agree with Brett, he is ungrateful, he does not deserve a return. As for the writing, he is partly responsible. He pushed for Fluke, he wanted dark, etc–everyone has pointed out his role. But he is always proud to claim to improve the writing, and never takes responsibility for the dreck that comes out. Interesting. TG is an entitled and arrogant man, with no respect for GH or the soap genre. He says he is tired, he has certainly exhausted my patience. I want him to enjoy a nice long retirement.
Please stay in Amsterdam & enjoy your retirement so I can enjoy GH!
Hurry the show is going to be cancelled soon without the likes of Mr. Geary!
Huh…Wth… We are already talking about a possible RETURN. Geez, this was all crafted to throw RC out the door. This has been a very exhausting week of soap news…LOL.
Haha.. to poster, He has already ran out of Scotch. I knew he wouldn’t be able to put the fame and attention behind him. Too much of a Diva.
I’m not super interested in seeing him anytime soon not in a mean way just in a lets all take a few years to think about stuff kind of way. If they ever got Jonathan Jackson to come back I’d like to see Geary act opposite him again but besides that his leaving is so fresh it just feels like the old bastard needs to cool down
Kel, lol. I don’t agree with A word you said but the way you said it was worth it! Too funny!
Rebecca, I had the same reaction.
Harry…we’re starting to mind meld. Before you know it you’ll be defdnding Alexis and Sabrina…
Id welcome him back anyday!! Beats kiki, morgan, michael, sabrina, franco, nina, valerie, dante, lulu …… Am i missing anyone? Yeah, id trade all of those drips for one of Tony Geary!! Come back any time!!!
I’d like to add Elizabeth and “little Jake” to that list too!
Agreed to all. Those characters are so light weight and stupid. That Lulu is awful. She actually makes Valerie look better.
Now were talking!
I haven’t read all the comments, but I had to reply to this. I’ve never had any doubt that this “final goodbye” by Tony Geary, complete with PR blitz and interviews galore, wasn’t nearly as final as everyone and their grandmother made it out to be. And I’ve heard more than enough from Tony G. to last a lifetime, considering the inconsistent comments, rude remarks and egotistical statements he’s made, and I’m only referring to those interviews which have come out over the past 10 days. I’m sure we’ll be seeing him again, and then the PR blitz will return with news of him gracing us fans with his presence, but until then, I think I can do very well without seeing him again for a long, long, long time. Don’t hurry back too soon, Tony.
Well said Beth, completely agree. Don’t hurry back Tony!
Big shock! He will have to keep his US Medical Insurance valid somehow.
Ah… Aden, the Netherlands along with most of Europe has very good universal health care. And if TG wants US Medical Insurance he can more than afford to pay for it along with his condo in LA himself.
He is a European resident. He has national healthcare.
TG’s said a number of times that his favorite writer through the years was Guza and that storylines like Luke running down Jake were the ones he most enjoyed; it’s not much of a secret that Luke’s turn toward the dark and twisted was crafted to keep TG happy and interested, as an actor.
If that’s what he means by the kind of story that would interest him and make it worth it for him to come back—no thanks, double no thanks, make that triple no thanks. Someone with his talent (and history with the show) theoretically should always be welcome, but that kind of tailoring the story to what he has wanted to play has done real damage to the show, and there’s nothing to be gained by doing it for a six-week stretch; the wreckage is not worth it. There could be all sorts of reasons Luke could come back that would make sense in regard to the ongoing story, and that viewers might enjoy, but I doubt they’d be the kinds of things that TG would find worthwhile.
This! I don’t think they’d give him that much power with a return so he may never agree to their terms anyway.
He got the big dark depressing last hurrah he wanted, but still wants the occasional paycheck and ego boost. He planned this one great! He is no Susan Flannery, whom he praised in the media for going out on her terms. She has not come grovelling back for some stint as Ghost Stephanie, although that would be infinitely entertaining!!
People..
try using ”comprehension” ok
Tony did not he was coming back. he said
;; “If the story is interesting to me and it works out, I may come back to the show for six weeks or so.””
He ”may” come back ”for 6 weeks” IF the story is interesting..
6 weeks is not a stay on..
There is no story and there may never be a story that would interest Tony to even come back for 6 weeks..
geezuz people, anything to bitch and complain about ya deafly and blindly jump in to bitch about it ..
No harm has been done, it was simply a comment by Tony ..
But, you do it as well! Any chance you get to bash Genie Francis, even when it is not warranted (a majority of the time), you never miss the opportunity. This is an open forum and everyone is entitled to their opinion. So praise Tony and honor Ron Carlivati, because it is your right. But, let us express our thoughts as well. By the way, I think Tony did his best work, when partnered with Genie, except when it was revealed how Fluke came to be.
Tony’s best work was with Jane and Tristan.
Some superb moments with Genie, indeed. My goodness….In late 1980 when he’s trying to work at Kelly’s and Laura storms in there and confronts him and he doesn’t want to give in to her, but it’s killing him not to just hug her and take her back. Then later the same day when they run into each other in the park and she tells him she’s going to take his advice and give him his space and live on her own. I can’t really articulate the acting chemistry they had in those few years but I suspect it was something for aspiring acting students to study. That time frame is my favorite Laura. When the writers give her a strong, determined storyline, she shines. She showed Luke she could stand on her own and he suddenly became interested again..not to mention jealous anytime any man looked her way. I love a jealous Luke…hysterical. Later on, different writers came on board and sorta made Laura victim-ish again sometimes. If today’s writing team can make her strong and formidable again, bravo. As for Luke, if a phenomenal team of writers can get the booze and the prostitute funk off of him, he might be worth Laura’s time again one day. In the meantime, she needs someone other than Luke or Scott Baldwin for that matter. I can’t end this post without explaining one of the main reasons viewers get annoyed with Tony. Were it not for the first 20 years of interviews where he went into great detail of Luke’s backstory and how Laura is and will always be his humanity, viewers might not be so annoyed today. Love him or hate him, Tony does contradict himself and he probably always will. Like many actors, he’s conflicted and he is sensitive. Back in the day, he gave numerous interviews about the creation of Luke and how Luke could and would never be unfaithful to Laura. ..How Laura represented his hope and his salvation. HE built this magnificent love story only to blame the fans when the accolades started coming his way (of which he is uncomfortable). Perhaps deep down he is annoyed with himself for constructing something powerful enough to forever ruin his anonymity; and the LnL fans are his constant reminder of this so-called failure. Even though he and Jane are incredibly talented and have chemistry, nothing they construct will ever compare. I think these last 9 years he’s been trying to construct something to help the fans “forget” LnL but it’s impossible. Like Genie, my wish for him is that one day he will find peace with what he built and he will find pride in it instead of dread and shame. He has a lot to be proud of and I wish that for him.
Bravo Cathy!
PLease don’t ever bring him back. Luke is not an “infinitely interesting guy” – and he’s certainly not portrayed by a good actor. The biggest thing about Geary is his ego – which is huge, but filled with nothing but hot air.
The guy spent the last several years dissing the character that paid his bills for almost 40 years, letting one and all know that he was too good to play the part. So now that he’s gone, just let him go.
Geary was never more than a mediocre has-been with an outsized ego. Let him rant and rave in Amsterdam, where he can safely be ignored.
boes, I can always count on you to be the voice of reason. You could almost see his head literally inflating like a balloon with each “exit” interview. His “acting” was so hamfisted I craved bacon each time he appeared on my screen. Now I know why Heather would do anything for a BLT.
OMG– this is why I was really getting sick of the hype and endless coverage of his so called goodbye– because I knew this would happen—I am growing almost as weary of soap actors coming back when they said they were done as I am of soap characters coming back from the dead.
Hi Mary..
Thing is..
Most all soap actors who leave a soap leave the door open, it is commonly done..
Even the ones who were killed off are apt to return, the actor knows that too.
It has been that way with soaps forever, I’d think..
Tony left the door open, too.. No different than the others who have done the same..
Tony did not say he is coming back
He said he ”may” if the story was interesting to him, and then only for a ”6 week run”, no big deal
I highly doubt the 2 new snore writers could even write an adventure that could entice Tony back.. nope.. lol
Anyways.. it was just a comment and nothing is happening and may well not happen..
I will miss Luke 🙁 ..
su0000,
I am interested in knowing why it is that you think the majority of posters on here do not understand show business? You seem to feel the need to explain everything to everyone who disagrees with your opinion. For example, Mary SF, has been posting on this board longer than you have and, from all accounts, appears to be a highly intelligent person. So I do not understand why you have to explain to HER that all actors leave the door open. I think she knows that as do the majority of us.
I really wish you would just stick to your opinions instead of the explanations on others’ posts.
I’m glad Geary is keeping the door open. Jackie Zeman, in her interview, indicated he might make a return one day. Who knows. Once he’s really removed from GH, the United States, his home here…and gets really acclimated to making Amsterdam his permanent residence…he may just let go and really start anew. It could be just fear talking…a little bit of a security blanket so as not to make such a drastic change cold turkey. Keeping a door open, even if you never intend on stepping through it, makes letting go easier.
On the other hand, he may truly mean it. Instead of living in the States and traveling to Amsterdam…maybe he’ll be so happy there that the luxury of popping in to see old friends and meld with Luke one or a few more times might be the best of both worlds for him.
Time will tell p; I’d enjoy seeing him still connected in some way. He should skype!
He could Skype Tracy from Amsterdam 🙂
Well said Rebecca
Thanks, Ces!
What an ego! Basically “I’ll return if it suits me – if I get a story I like”…….
Go away. You made your choice!
Hollywood is filled with egos!
Soap media is delusional over Tony Geary to the point that the main stream media has thought it necessary to join in. Do they realize the viewers are so over him as a whole. Go enjoy your retirement and don’t come back.
They are all full of BS. Sure you can come back. Just make sure someone ELSE write your ending.
*writes
You must come back b4 Laura reads the letter, lol. Don’t listen to the BS. BUT, next time must be with a better ending –with a full hour focused on you.
Angel I cannot cosign.
TG, you are not wanted, you had your run, you made a lot of money, pushed down a lot of bad stories to fulfil your own ego rather than entertain the fans. You were ungrateful to the show and the writers that made you. You are not welcome back!
People are just upset because they didnt get a full hour episode with flashbacks. Of course, we want a re-do.
For an example of leaving with class i would have to use Allison Sweeney and Susan Flannery of those who have shown great class when they both left their shows after spending more than two decades on them. It’s a shame that a man who brought so much joy to his fans didn’t seem to find much for himself all those years.
Anthony Geary is a classless actor. I agree that Susan Flannery is the best example of retiring with class and dignity. She was decisive and on point. Soaps do continue after retirement, sickness and death of beloved actors portraying beloved characters.
Then bring Jonathan Jackson back too IF his current show ends or time he’s not shooting his show. I thought Geary said he didn’t want to die on set.
I hope we are miss reading his comments, I take it to mean when he said he’s sick of Luke and Laura, is that they have both done so many other things and that that is the only thing fans remember, it has to hurt that everything else goes unnoticed. Luke and Tracey have made me laugh, and I think they were great together. their good bye made me cry more than any other. we all get sick of our jobs and need a break, he is 68, it may not seem that hard but I’m sure its long days. I hope he does come back for visits, Genie left years ago, Robin left years ago. And I’m sure the stories get hard to write, same old same old. Valerie will be pregnant by Dante, she’ll keep it. maybe Valerie will die and Lulu will have to raise it. That’s the Monica, Susan, Alan (Baby Jason) story. They cant have baby die they just did that, baby cant be kid napped just did that, can’t be switched, So Tony I hope we see you again.
I love Jane and Tony!
Luke and Tracy are natural and age appropriate..
They also have been been married and had many intense and funny loving moments,,
When Helena poisoned Luke and he was dying Tracy went to save him!
Luke and Tracy have ‘decades’, decades more togetherness than Luke n Laura ever had, for sure..
Tracy and Luke have their magic ! 🙂
I really love them together!
I can hardly wait for RC’s last month to play out, he was back on track and giving us some old fashioned great Ron stuff 🙂
Uh, Su, lay off the tequila. Luke and Tracy have been canoodling for nearly 10 years. Since 2005. Luke and Laura have 37 years of history, including 20 solid years of marriage with few separations.
Aden,
I don’t think it is tequila. There are rumors on another board that the above poster is actually an intern for ABC. I would tend to agree, although somehow who needs to learn how to form paragraphs and sentence structure.
It’s not worth arguing. Life is too short.

Kelly Sullivan Gives High Praise to ‘General Hospital’s’ Maura West Recalling When Ava Shot Connie (Exclusive)

It was just over 13 years ago on General Hospital when Ava Jerome (Maura West) shot and killed Kate Howard/Connie Falconeri (Kelly Sullivan) in an effort to keep her quiet from revealing that Derek Wells was actually Ava’s back-from-the-dead brother, Julian Jerome (William deVry). It’s a crime that somehow Ava never has quite paid for either.
The episode back aired on August 13, 2013 and viewers had to say goodbye to Kelly Sullivan who played Kate and her alter, Connie. In the story, just before she died, Kate/Connie scrawled the letters AJ in her own blood, initially making the PCPD and Sonny Corinthos (Maurice Benard) think that it was AJ Quatermaine (Sean Kanan) who did the deed.
Now, Sullivan recalled sharing scenes with the three-time Daytime Emmy-winning West, during a live conversation on You Tube’s Michael Fairman Channel. Kelly was the special guest talking about her recent return to the soaps in her new role as The Bold and the Beautiful’s Darcy Dylan.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS OF MAURA WEST
Speaking of her final GH scenes and working with Maura West, Sullivan gave her then GH co-star major props. “If you’re going to be shot by somebody (on the soaps), you want to be shot by Maura West, c’mon!”
Maura West debuted back in May 2013 as Ava, and Sullivan remembered when the As the World Turns favorite began on GH. “I remember when Maura West first arrived at GH. She walked in with this cute little bob (hairdo) and she’s just delicious,” shared Sullivan.
A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE
Kelly revealed more about Maura, adding “I think she’s amazing! I remember right before I left the show, someone suggested, and I would still love to do this with her, if she ever want to, but someone suggested that they wanted to direct the stage play A Streetcar Named Desire with Maura and I, where I would play Stella and she would play Blanche! Wouldn’t that be great?”
Speaking of the Ava/Connie showdown scenes, Sullivan expressed, “On television and on General Hospital specifically, Maura West is able to play a character who does the most horrendous things and you still care about her and that’s the mark of a really great actor. In other words, you’re able to be liked in the midst of the most horrendous things, and as a performer not shying away from that, and to just have the courage to do what’s on the page (in the script).”

KELLY SULLIVAN PARTING THOUGHTS AS SHE LEFT GENERAL HOSPITAL
Kelly also shared her sentiments when she walked off the set of General Hospital after her run back in August of 2013. “I really was honored. Every day I would go to work and I would say a little prayer, which is I want to do justice for my character, explained Kelly. “It’s between me and my character. I get to walk this path with her and to leave the show on that note, which is, I left every out there. I just gave it my all and again what an honor it was to play Kate/Connie.”
You can catch the full conversation with Kelly where she talks about her time on General Hospital, The Young and the Restless where she played Sage Warner and now The Bold and the Beautiful below.
So, do you remember the Ava and Connie scenes where Ava shot and killed her? What did you think of Kelly Sullivan’s sentiments about Maura West? Share your thoughts via the comment section. But first, watch the reveal where Ava recalls murdering Connie below!

Steve Burton Reportedly Signs Three-Year Contract with ‘General Hospital’

The question of will Steve Burton (Jason Morgan) stay awhile at General Hospital after his recent extended hiatus from the show earlier this year, has reportedly been answered.
TMZ via court documents obtained in Burton’s ongoing legal battle with his ex-wife Sheree Gustin, shared that Steve actually inked a new three year deal with the ABC soap opera back in June.
That is significant because it was June when Burton returned back to work as Jason. In addition, the court filing confirmed that Burton had already moved back to California from Tennessee.

STEVE’S HIATUS AND HIS RETURN TO PORT CHARLES
GH fans will recall, it was back in February of 2026, that Burton announced via his Instagram that he was stepping away from his role of Jason Morgan for short break and pointed to wanting to spend quality time with his new wife, Michelle Lundstrom Burton with whom he tied the knot back on May 17, 2025.
Steve expressed at that time, “I’m newly married and looking forward to spending some quality time with my family.” It was back on March 25 that viewers saw Jason carted away by the WSB after taking the fall for Rocco Falconeri (Finn Carr) who shot then WSB Director Ross Cullum (Andrew Hawkes).
Burton returned to work on June 1, and due to General Hospital taping roughly six weeks ahead of air, made his on-screen comeback on the July 13 episode.
GOING FOR GOLD AT THE UPCOMING DAYTIME EMMYS
Then, Steve and his enduring fans got an extra special treat on the same day, when it was revealed on Extra that he was nominated for the upcoming 53rd annual Daytime Emmy Awards in the Outstanding Lead Actor in a Daytime Drama Series category.
Steve previously won in the Supporting Actor category for his work as General Hospital’s Jason in 1998 and as The Young and the Restless’ Dylan McAvoy in 2018.
Now with Jason and Britt’s (Kelly Thiebaud) relationship seemingly hitting the skids, plus Jason’s commitment to staying out of mob life to focus on being present for his son Danny Morgan (Asher Antonyzyn), what does the future hold for the fan favorite character? Stay tuned.
So, happy to hear that Steve Burton signed a new three year deal with General Hospital? Knowing that, what storyline would you like to see Jason get involved and with who? Share your thoughts and theories via the comment section.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Jason and Britt Reach an Impasse; Is This the End of Their Relationship?

On the Friday, September 11 episode of General Hospital, Jason (Steve Burton) and Britt’s (Kelly Thiebaud) relationship becomes strained to potentially the point of no return.
Things take a turn when an unglued Britt having been traumatized by almost being killed by Anna Devane (Finola Hughes) asks Jason to back her up with the PCPD when she reports Anna for attempted murder.
However, Jason told Britt, he can’t. Jason shares that he does not believe Anna would have gone through with shooting her. Therefore, Britt was not in any real imminent danger. Britt is flabbergasted and hurt that Jason is refusing to tell the police what he actually witnessed for himself on Mount Emerson.

BRITT WANTS BACK UP FROM JASON
Jason counters that he can’t believe that Britt would want Anna punished. or sent to prison, or a mental facility after the trauma she endured while being locked up and mentally tortured while at Wyndemere.
He asks Britt, “How could you even say that you want her locked up or prosecuted for what she did when you knew she was being held prisoner and you did nothing to save her?” Britt is stunned by Jason’s response.
Coming up, official General Hospital spoilers share that on the upcoming Monday, September 14 episode, Jason confides in Carly (Laura Wright), while Britt is stung. In the video preview that aired at the end of the Friday, September 11 episode for this coming Monday, Britt says to Jason, “You don’t believe me. Do you?”
General Hospital head scribes, Chris Van Etten and Elizabeth Korte previously teased in their fall preview of the soap, “Britt and Jason have come a long way and fought a lot of enemies to be together. But the most stubborn obstacle to their happiness isn’t without, it’s within. Decisions Britt made to stay alive while under Cullum’s thumb will come back to haunt her and may prove too difficult for this unlikely couple to survive.”
So, what do you think will happen? Will Jason and Britt break-up over Britt’s lies and Jason’s unwillingness to report Anna’s crime against her? Do you want Jason and Britt to go their separate ways? If they do, will Britt become romantically involved with Dr. Tristan Roberts (Dean Geyer) ? If so, who do you pair Jason with? Anyone? Weigh-in via the comment section.
