Drake Hogestyn Returns to Days of our Lives! Tapes New Episodes Starting Today!

Great news today first reported by Soap Opera Digest! Many fans have been screaming for the return of beloved Days of our Lives favorite Drake Hogestyn who last was seen as John Black back in June.
Now words comes that Drake starts taping all-new episodes today! According to a DAYS rep, Drake’s new episodes should begin airing in February 2014, since the NBC series tapes four months ahead of airing.
So, how will John be brought back into the canvas? What would you like to see happen to John and Marlena (Deidre Hall)? Do you want them to get back together? Do you want to see super spy John spring back into action against his mortal enemy the DiMeras? Or, would you like to see him fight a new enemy? Let us know!
Thank god he is coming back! I want him and marlena not to be on the same page! I want them to fight and argue and then fall back in Love! They should also bring Belle back! I would like to see John and Stefano be back mortal enemies! I want him to become Super spy and a cop!
Perhaps they could bring back Genie Francis in the role of Diana Colevile for angst and turmoil – particularly if Eileen Davidson has bowed out. I am truly getting sick o waiting for the clowns in charge at GH to bring her back…..

I hope that we get a great story, played out on camera of their reconciliation. Would love to see John back in action with the PD or ISA. A return to the romantic hero I fell in love with in 1986!!!! So glad he is back!
Stephanie..Annie…no offense meant here…but you said it yourself…you want the character to be the same as he was in 1986. That is one of the main reasons soaps are dying…characters never change. As evidenced by seeing Luke and Tracy in their current escapade on GH…these people are now in their 60’s. They look absolutely ridiculous playing out action adventure stories that they did 30 years ago. Why are there no writers who can write age appropriate stories on these shows??? I’m not saying they have to b complaining about arthritis and talking about pension…but come on….make up and plastic surgery aside…that’s where these characters are at. It was like erica Kane…from AMC …she was the same flighty vain self obsessed person after 40 years! There are so many stories about life that these recycled hack writers have never bothered to explore. Let the younger generation carry the break ups and make ups…..seriously….Victor Newman has been married 15 times. Soaps became successful because we emotionally invested in he characters. After 15 marriages…..a 70 year old man? Seriously? There are compelling stories tobe told between mature couples! Tell them!
Not saying he has to be running around in jungles, or jumping out of airplanes, just want a compelling, and yes, age appropriate story…….and a romantic reunion with Marlena. A great story could be told for them as a couple, I wish TPTB would stop with the attitude that happy couples are boring! No they aren’t, if they’ve got a good storyline….I can think of a dozen that the DH’s could knock out of the park, if given a chance!
Hi Steph. Good post. You know what? I have never ever heard a viewer or fan say that happy couples are boring. The only people I have heard say that are writers, producers, and network executives. Somewhere along the way they got entertainment mixed up with constant misery and suffering. Happy couples do not have to sit around and talk about how happy they are…couples can be together and still have drama and story without breaking up.
SO agree with Johnny regarding his comments around Luke and Tracy pretending to be action adventurers. But IMO that isn’t the reason soaps have faded…. the insistence on writing for a few key pets has hurt, the insistence on writing in a style that befits a comic book or an elementary school play (compared with deeper, more emotional, more nuanced writing experienced in earlier times) has also hurt. The reality is that the creativity has just seeped out of the genre, as has happened with much of, if not most network produced television shows. That’s why so little of it is done anymore, and why the better shows have come from HBO, AMC and even Netflix. Network television has become corporate America which destroys creativity wherever it goes in its quest for ever higher and more predictable quarterly earnings.
Hi Johnny and Steph. I don’t want Drake’s character to be back in 1986 . I’m just saying that I’m glad he ‘s back. They need a good storyline. I noticed on GH they use all the VETS! Like Tony Geary and Maurice Bernard. They can still have anger and disagreements . I want a good storyline. It’s not the actors and actresses that are bad. It is the writing on Days. I mean no offensive to the other people on Days ,but I don’t want to see Ej and Sami all time or Gabi and Nick. People who I don’t know. That Days fans are invested in their favorite characters. I don’t know Daniel Jonas. To the fans out there no offensive , but Days struck out on him. I think you should have Matt come back! I also think you should have Peter come back! bring back the MEAN EVIL Stefano! No offensive but I don’t need to see Will and Sonny all the time either. I think you should bring back Carrie and Austin! Lucas needs to come back! rafe and Jordan needs to come together! I’am SO GLAD JOHN IS COMING BACK! Let them go into counseling and win her back! Let Belle and Shawn come back too!

Finally…at first i thought B&B would hire him as Ridge…anyway, he needs a new story away from the Dimera’s…lets have a mystery surrounding Bo’s disappearance…he teams with Hope, and the become close but will they act on their feelings or will they stay devoted to those they truly love…Bo and Marlena!!!

I kinda knew this was happening because Greg Meng hinted it at the Days book signing I went to at Mall of America! I told him that the fans want Drake and John back. He told me to keep watching! I am super glad he is coming back.

I liked Galen, Drake, Shawn C, Eric M, and Ari! I have met Deidre before and she is really nice as well but she is all business and wants to promote her books and things too. I also love Susan and Bill!
I’ve only watched Days the last couple of years, but I’m familiar with the history. If I was a longtime fan, I would be outraged over how the writers have had John Black behave the last few times he has been on screen! He has been a jerk and an idiot, and made Marlena seem that she is better off without him. I know that is not the John and Marlena that fans have loved for years, so I hope the current writers do him and this couple justice this time around. Drake seems like a great guy, and his character deserves to be written with respect.

I want it all!!! John and Marlena together (after a story to bring them back to each other) that involves John being a spy, Marlena being smart and yes…a new villain would be great!! What’s better than a suspense romance? With John and Marlena’s history (their real history…please John would have have ANY residual feelings for Krtisten…..) we already have a great starting point. I don’t want ‘hello’ and they are back together…I want it to come out of the story.

Well it is about time– they left so many loose ends with that character it is time to deal with them. Still hoping, fingers crossed, that Jordan Ridgeway is really John Black’s daughter, either with Kristen or with Hope Brady when she was Princess Gina and he was the Pawn. And speaking of loose ends– not related to this character, but to Carrie. Did she have that baby yet? Did I miss a mention somewhere along the way– if so, did she have a boy or a girl?

I can remember when he came on as a recast of Roman we all joked that he grew about 5 inches in height no curly hair and hair on his chest!

Scott I do not think Wayne Northup would come back he has basically retired from acting and enjoys his life as a rancher according to his wife I loved the show back then I have not watched since probably 1999.

I am glad Drake is back. He added romance, adventure,a reason to watch Days until Corday destroyed his character and Marlena and John. I hope Drake can have his character back the way he was , a whole new sexy challenging women, getting back together with his son and daughter . He deserves better for years of entertaining us. And maybe Corday you should listen to his suggestion, anything has got to be better that than the writing in the last two years,assassination of a good man and good actor. 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Nominations Announced: ‘The Young and the Restless’ Tops With 18, ‘Beyond the Gates’ With 16
The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS) today announced the full list of nominees for the upcoming 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Awards, and it was CBS daytime’s The Young and the Restless and broadcast television newest soap opera, Beyond the Gates that racked up the most nominations with 18 and 16, respectively.
The full reveal on Tuesday follows the announcement of several major categories including Lead Actor and Actress on Monday via Extra and Entertainment Tonight and The View today revealing Daytime Drama Series and more.
The 53rd Annual Daytime Emmys ceremony is set to take place on Friday, October 30 at the historic Hollywood Palladium in Hollywood, California.

In a statement, Adam Sharp, President and CEO of NATAS expressed, “We’re proud to honor the extraordinary talent and creative teams whose work continues to define and elevate daytime television, As the Daytime landscape evolves and new forms of storytelling emerge, we remain committed to recognizing the innovation happening across the industry.”
“Each year, the Daytime Emmy Awards celebrate the creativity, passion, and dedication that drive this vibrant community of storytellers,” said Rachel Schwartz, Head of the Daytime Emmy Awards. “Congratulations to this year’s nominees, whose work continues to entertain, inspire and connect with audiences every day. We look forward to celebrating their remarkable achievements in Hollywood this October.”
The Daytime Emmy Awards have recognized outstanding achievement in television programming and crafts since 1974, honoring work in a variety of genres, including daytime dramas, talk series, entertainment news, culinary, adventure, instructional and legal/courtroom programming.
This year’s Lifetime Achievement Honoree, Gold & Silver Circle Inductees, and ceremony host will be announced at a later date.

Monday on Entertainment Tonight, the second set of nominations for the 53rd annual Daytime Emmy Awards were announced which included the highly-coveted Outstanding Lead Performance in a Daytime Drama Series – Actress and Outstanding Daytime Talk Series.
ET followed suit after Extra announced the nominees, as previously reported, in the Outstanding Lead Performance in a Daytime Drama Series – Actor and Outstanding Daytime Talk Host.
Now, five leading ladies of the soaps are vying for the gold for Lead Actress and the category marked the first-ever nominations for CBS daytime’s Beyond the Gates when two actresses made the final cut. Only General Hospital is not represented among the actresses this year after Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis Davis) took home the trophy last year.

THE FIVE LEADING LADIES OF THE SOAPS ARE …
The 2026 Lead Actress nominees are: Stacy Haiduk (Kristen DiMera), Days of Our Lives, Karla Mosley (Dani Dupree), Beyond the Gates, Michelle Stafford (Phyllis Summers), The Young and the Restless, Heather Tom (Katie Logan), The Bold and the Beautiful, and Tamara Tunie (Anita Dupree), Beyond the Gates.
This marks the first Daytime Emmy nominations for Karla Mosley and Tamara Tunie. In addition, this marks the first-time in her career that Stacy Haiduk had received a Lead Actress nod after two Supporting Actress nominations.
Meanwhile, Michelle Stafford had previously won 3 Emmys – 2 for Lead Actress and 1 for Supporting, but this recognition makes it her 11th overall nomination.
Heather Tom currently is tied for the most all-time Daytime Emmy wins with One Life to Live alum and General Hospital guest star, Erika Slezak. The B&B star has 19 nominations throughout her career.

In the Outstanding Daytime Talk Series category, the nominees are: 3rd Hour of Today, The Drew Barrymore Show, The Kelly Clarkson Show, Live with Kelly and Mark, Today with Jenna and Friends and The View.

It’s Daytime Emmy nomination week, and as previously reported things kick-off on Monday, July 13 when Entertainment Tonight (7pm ET) will announce the nominees for Lead Actress category and Daytime Talk Series for the upcoming 53rd annual Daytime Emmy Awards. On Tuesday, The View (11am ET) starts things off with their announcement of Daytime Drama, Entertainment News program and Outstanding Daytime Personality-Daily. That is followed by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) full reveal of all the categories beginning at 12noon ET/9am PT on their website and their official social handles on X and Instagram.
Then, Tuesday night at 8pm ET/5pm PT join Michael Fairman as he hosts his 12th annual Daytime Emmy Nominations Special 2026 live on You Tube’s Michael Fairman Channel where he will chat with some of the just announced nominees as we celebrate the hard work of the men and women in front of the camera who will be going for gold.
WHEN ARE THE DAYTIME EMMYS?
This year, the 53rd annual Daytime Emmy Awards will be handed out on October 30 in ceremonies in Hollywood, California (Venue yet to be revealed). At that time, as like last year, both the major categories and creative arts will be presented. There is no word yet on a broadcast partner for the annual celebration of daytime programming, or if it will soley be streamed on NATAS’ watch.theemmys.tv and various apps and platforms.
