Emma Samms Returning to General Hospital After Battle with Long Covid
Looks like fans of ABC’s General Hospital will finally learn more about Holly Sutton’s whereabouts; with the news today that Emma Samms is finally returning to the ABC daytime drama series in her signature role.
Samms, who briefly reprised the part in 2020, had to put her major return on hold after contracting Covid-19. However, Samms then suffered from a protracted bout of long Covid, which kept her away even longer.
Now, Deadline is reporting that Emma is returning to GH in October.
The actress last appeared on the soap back in September of 2020. At that time, and in story, Holly was presumed dead, but then was revealed to be alive, but locked in a cell in Monte Carlo.
In a statement, Emma shared: “I can’t believe that it’s been 40 years since I first appeared on General Hospital and that, once again, I get to play the wonderful character of Holly Sutton. No one is more interested in what’s happened to her since we saw her two years ago, being held captive by a mysterious villain, than me!”
Also in a statement, GH’s executive producer, Frank Valentini offered up: “I am thrilled the wonderful Emma Samms will be returning to the canvas in October, so we can continue telling Holly’s story and the fans can finally see what happened after we learned she was alive and being held hostage!”
So, excited to learn Emma is coming back to GH? Who do you think will eventually be revealed as Holly’s captor? Comment below.
Yay. Great news
Most Unholy News! The only thing that would make it better is Luke & Jason coming back with her. All indications are that she & Jason would be in the same location – the Cassadine island “prison” and if Victor Cassadine faked Luke’s death (or “neutralized” him, in his exact words) that would be the place he would have been moved to.
Bring ’em all back. And since Roswell NM, is wrapping up, you might as well have Ethan involved in the rescue of his mother, and the guy he believes is his father (though I still say that was a ridiculous rewrite… he should be Robert’s kid)
Would Anthony Geary be willing to leave Amsterdam for a return to General Hospital?
Doubt it. Pretty sure he only came back that one time, because of Jane Elliot’s retirement for her.
I doubt he would have any interest in returning “full time”, but I believe he’s said he might be interested in a short term visit, if the story was good. This one could be, if they did it right.
Emma Samms welcome back to General Hospital as Holly. Emma is a wonderful actress and still looks gorgeous.
I’m looking forward to her return, more Robert and the old gang.
A little legacy star quality is welcome
It’s always nice to have a fresh blast from the past, especially GH’s better days. Too bad Holly’s sexy son Ethan (Nathan Parsons) is busy in prime time…wouldn’t mind a dose of him right now.
He ain’t all that busy. His show is in the last season, with about 2 more episodes left, so he’s already done filming it. It got canceled, with pretty much 80% of the CW network.
That’s not to say he hasn’t been looking for other gigs, but considering he went from the vampire show on CW to the alien show on CW, that network’s demise has probably made it somewhat more difficult for him to find more work. He’s been open to short term returns at GH before, so I’m sure he would do it with a storyline involving Holly, and potentially Luke & Jason.
Yay! Some storyline for Tristan Rogers at last! Now if we can just figure out what happened to Kim Delaney ….

Do we really care what happened to her?
I do. She’s a fine actress, and I was hoping that she would draw TR into a larger part of the canvas. Also helps to flesh out Finn and Chase’s family. It’s not Kim’s fault that the character wasn’t made more interesting and pivotal.

Sorry, I was talking about the character, not the actress. I like her too. As far as the family goes, Violet is the best part and Chase too, if he’d get his stuff together. Finn is just so boring and looks like a scrooge in his all time black clothing. Am so sick of him and Liz anyway.
Violet, what’s with Finn and the black duds? Is he some kind of doctorly Johnny Cash? And he and Elizabeth are Dullsville Central. She has more chemistry with Terry. Speaking of which, Terry and Yuri? How cute will they be? I love her quirky, original line readings and was rooting for her and Chet.
I haven’t a clue as to who she was/is..
But- I luv new characters (to me), so it’s a good thing. 🙂
I hope her return will bring new high drama-
So glad Emma/Holly is finally coming back! I hope it’s for longer than just a few episodes, and she will revive her story with Robert Scorpio! He really needs a story & love interest!!
I’m sure it will be longer than a few episodes. The story will have to reveal who faked her death and is keeping her. A good story for November sweeps for sure.
I just hope its not a pop up and she is gone. Write her like Laura gets written now. Give her something to do. I’m sure since Genie is returning soon these two women will try and take down Victor for Luke’s “Death!”
Emma Samm’s sister Tweeted that Emma is not doing well at all, and asserted that she id still suffering from serious symptoms of long term COViD. She implored the cast and crew to be very gentle with her sister. She also said Emma is doing this to please her fans. She’s always been a class act.
Long covid = adverse “vaccine” reactions.
Absolutely 666% wrong. Emma got Covid very early on, in the Spring of 2020. Vaccines didn’t exist until a year later.
I hope when she returns that Robert is heavily involved in the story. I also hope they play it constantly; not twice a week and then drop it for two weeks. It’s difficult to get involved when they keep doing that to storylines. I know there are all sorts of reasons for this, contracts, vacations, etc., but these things aren’t last-minute and should be planned for. Just saying…
Welcome back Emma. You have been missed.

I know we both want to do it.” Marcy simply nodded and responded “Amen.”

‘Days of Our Lives’ Officially Confirms Ryan Quan Returning as Co-Head Writer Beginning in July

There is definitely a shake-up going down at the writing team at Peacock’s Days of Our Lives. Now, the long-running soap opera has confirmed, what has been previously reported, that current General Hospital breakdown writer, Ryan Quan is heading back to his old stomping grounds in Salem. This time as the series co-head writer.
The appointment of Quan comes with the official news that current co-head writer, Paula Cwikly, who was previously rumored to be departing the series, is not. She is staying with the soap opera and transitioning to a consultant role with the show. Now, Quan will join current co-head writer, Jeanne Marie Ford to steer the ship for the characters on the canvas.
On Wednesday, TV Insider, reported the official confirmation and that Quan will return to DAYS next month in July. In a statement to the outlet, executive producer, Ken Corday expressed, ‘We are lucky to have Ryan back in the fold. THE FUTURE OF DAYS OF OUR LIVES
Since Days of our Lives unusual production schedule tapes ten-months ahead of air, the new creative team’s vision led by Quan and Jeanne Marie Ford are not expected to stream on Peacock until mid-2027.
Days of Our Lives is currently renewed through its 63rd season. The former NBC soap opera which transitioned to Peacock in September of 2022, celebrate its 60th anniversary in November of 2025.
The writing regime change comes after NBCUniversal Media Chairman Matt Strauss revealed that Peacock is expected to turn a profit for the first time in the current quarter, punctuating their investment with the enduring soap opera on its platform.
As for Quan, his knowledge of Salem is tremendous. Ryan joined Days of Our Lives as a writer’s assistant in 2007 after some time over at Passions. He then spent two decades and held every position on the writing team where he previously served as co-head writer from 2016-17 alongside Dena Higley.
Later, when Ron Carlivati took over as head writer for 7 years in 2017, Quan became his right-hand man and main story consultant for his deep knowledge of the history and the legacy of the show. After Carlivati exited the show in 2024, General Hospital hired Quan in 2025.
So, what do you think about DAYS making it official with Ryan Quan as the new co-head writer of the series alongside Jeanne Marie Ford. What do you think about the fact we won’t see the changes on-screen till 2027? Weigh-in via the comment section below.

ABC Announces ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Texas Spin-Off Gets Straight-to-Series Order

In a surprise move, coming a week after ABC unveiled its 2026-2027 fall television schedule, Grey’s Anatomy is getting a new spinoff co-created by the original series’ creator/executive producer Shonda Rhimes.
The new untitled medical drama will be written and executive produced by Rhimes and Grey’s Anatomy showrunner/executive producer Meg Marinis under the Shondaland and 20th Television umbrella. In addition, long-running ‘Grey’s’ star Ellen Pompeo will also serve as an EP of the spinoff.
The upcoming new series will debut midseason in 2027. This will be the first of Grey’s franchise not set in urban city or West Coast locale. According to Deadline, the new “edgy drama is about a team at a rural West Texas medical center — the last chance for care before miles of nowhere.”

Photo: ABC
In a statement, Marinis shared, “I am incredibly excited to expand the Grey’s Anatomy universe. This opportunity will bring new characters and stories to life that will embody the same heart, emotion and connection audiences have loved from Grey’s for more than two decades — all set in my home state of Texas. I am so grateful to Shonda Rhimes for creating this dynamic world and feel so fortunate that I get to be a part of it.”
A NEW GROUP OF DOCTORS IN RURAL TEXAS
The Texas spinoff will feature a a new group of doctors, but there will be some connection to the OG Grey’s Anatomy and possibly to Debbie Allen’s character of Catherine Fox. The amount of episodes in the series order has not yet been determined. Previous Grey’s Anatomy spinoffs were the defunct Station 19 and Private Practice.
Previously, Grey’s Anatomy was renewed for its upcoming 23rd season while the amount of episodes is unclear. The last two seasons the series produced 18 episodes.
It should also be noted, Grey’s Anatomy and the Texas spinoff would likely share a time period, which requires limited-run orders for both with Grey’s premiering in the fall, followed by the spinoff on the midseason programming block.
So, what do you think about a Texas spinoff of Grey’s Anatomy coming in 2027? Who would you like to see from daytime or primetime as some of the featured roles as new doctors? Put on your casting directors hat and let us know via the comment section below.
