General Hospital
Emma Samms Returning To General Hospital!

Courtesy/FValentiniTwitter
As had been predicted, and had been teased that another lady love from Luke’s past will be back on the scene for the final exit storyline for Anthony Geary (Luke) on General Hospital, today GH executive producer, Frank Valentini revealed via his Twitter account that it is indeed, Emma Samms (Holly).
Pictured with Samms, Valentini tweeted, .@EmmaSamms1 is coming back to @GeneralHospital !! Very excited!! #GH” Meanwhile Emma tweeted, “Hooray! I don’t have to keep the secret anymore.” And GH head writer, Ron Carlivati added, “Fire up the spaceship! #GH #HollyIsBack @EmmaSamms1 ”
The character of Holly Sutton first appeared on on General Hospital back in 1982! She returned for a year stint in 1992-1993, and then on and off again for several years in 2006, 2009, and most recently 2012 and 2013.
Just how will Holly figure into Luke’s final story? Are you glad to hear that Emma is back? Will Nathan Parsons who plays Ethan Lovett be far behind? Comment below!
I love Emma ! This send off for Luke is turning into something, that I have a feeling I am going to need a room full of boxes of tissues. I hope both of Luke’s sons are going to be there as well, darn forget the tissues, I will probably use a mop to wipe up the tears.
Would that that were so! The writers seem incapable of writing really heartfelt scenes between the character and certainly no sustained, emotional scenes that we used to see and love.
Agreed. Saw Anna today and she just took her clothes off and had sex on the couch. Not sure why except she and the guy were drunk. No attraction needed
@lelling
OMG : a desecration of all that is true… Duke and Anna
say it isn’t true
i feel like tearing up
i’m 3 eps behind
she really is off her rocker… what with the ghost of Carlos and the death of Duke on her mind… she really needs that rest and respite…
OH no…
this isn’t good
Glad Emma is coming back but hope Ethan don’t
You mean Pigpen.
What? Pigpen? I love Ethan! He’s not your perfect, cookie cutter soap opera male specimen, however, his off beat good looks, charm and natural personality make him just shine on the screen. Maybe he is an acquired taste.
I don’t understand the Pigpen comment but Pigpen happens to be one of my favorite characters from the Peanut cartoon series. Pigpen clearly was a neglected child and needed a lot of love–so does Ethan.
The two great loves of Luke’s life make perfect sense to aide him in his final adventure. Maybe we will finally get a real scene between Laura and Holly as they process Luke’s infidelity.
I seriously doubt that–would have been nice–but they’ll probably bring the lagacy characters like Holly back for one brief scene with Luke. Oh, well, what might have been!
Holly was horrible with Luke, just awful. With Robert, she was fine. Robert and Hutch would be my choices to come back as well. Hutch got the short shift.
Wonderful news, I love Emma Samms.
I am so happy that Holly will be back. Too bad Robert won’t be there. I hope they correct the Ethan parentage mess…one of the worst s/,’s of all times. Either way, Holly should be there.
Agreed. Hope it is revealed that Luke is not Nathan’s father. But . . . I’m not holding my breath.
Wow!!! I did not know Emma Samms was once part of GH. But, I am familiar with a few of her movies….gorgeous!!!
Hi CeeCee ..
Both Holly and Laura are new characters, to me .
And I am far from the only one that will see them as ”who?” and new..
Sam here, Su. I only know Genie from Y&R….Emma from a couple of movies. But, as yourself, their characters are new to me as well.
To add to what I wrote, SU. I do watch past episodes on UTUBE….I have a sleeping disorder….sometimes I stay up all night…..so, I have watched many, but not with Emma Samms, yet.
I love the ‘oldies, but goodies’……I really enjoy past episodes so much more than the present. But, that’s probably just myself. I love ANYTHING from the past.
I do agree with you, though, that only the older fans, and only a handful, such as myself, appreciate the return of vets……especially those I know. I wasn’t even born in 1982 yet, but it’s good to see all these past characters tie in comfortably with the present.
Cee Cee and Su000, Holly was one of the best dressed, most beautiful soap characters in daytime history. That girl had style–she wore hats, suits and gloves just to lunch and shop with the ladies.
She was truly just fun to watch.
Now that my beloved and stylin Duke of Bloomingdale’s is gone, perhaps Holly Sutton can give all the women of Port Charles lessons on how to dress and accessorize. I swear, GH has some of the worst dressed females I have ever seen on television.
WHAT???!!$$##/????
She did briefly appear in 2013 on GH……but for you ‘newbie viewers’ GH would be smart to show flashbacks of Holly to help you youngsters…lol…become more familiar with these vets when they return after lengthy times off the show……Luke should have been injured and falls into a coma showing highlights of his arrival in PC, his love life with Laura, Holly, ect., and other past to present storylines! Luke reliving his past while in a temporary coma would make great storytelling as part of his exit!!!
In the 80’s Luke, Laura, Holly and Robert were just great! You can watch their work on Youtube. Its dated but you will get the gist of it. I always liked Holly with Robert but then Anna came along and now I prefer her with Robert. Luke and Holly could go off and live happily ever after because shes a lot like Luke where she likes adventure and she can play both sides of the law. She still looks great! Cannot wait for her arrival.
Timm and Jimh are absolutely right. Look up Holly and Robert on Youtube. For me, Holly never quite jived with Luke, but she ignited some amazing chemistry with Robert Scorpio. I believe that after Luke and Laura, Holly and Robert were the next supercouple of the 80’s.
By the way, Tristan Rogers and Emma Samms had a torrid affair while they were playing husband wife on GH. She left Tristan when she left GH for The Colby. Please know I am not blowing a long held secret. It was in all of the rags and Tristan spoke openly about it in interviews. It seems Emma broke Robert’s heart. This is a case of mimesis in reversal.
Thanks for the info !! 🙂
Wow…sounds like you guys were really taken with Holly. I look forward to seeing on GH.
Thanks, Timmm and jimh.
@Harry.
Thanks, Harry. I can just picture Holly in my mind’s eye. Eloquent description of this fab lady.
Her mode of dress and the way she carries herself makes me think of my mother…..sophisticated.
Amen to that, Harry! By the way, who the heck is responsible for putting the increasingly-naif-like Nina in those teeny-tiny sheaths of late? She looks like a praying mantis in a mini-dress!!!
@Harry.
I must agree with you. Harry. With the exception of Days, none of the remaining soaps’ clothing style stirs the olfactory, for me. DOOL’s Lauren/Kate fashion sense, however, among other women on the soap, surpasses any sartorial aspiration any of the female cast on GH, and Y&R may have.
Sharon Case is chic….but, did you take a gander at Eileen’s/Ashley’s dress the other day? She was wearing this golden dress…….well, she looked like a bronze statue embellished with fish scales.
Good news indeed!
And props to Ron Carlivati for the Dynasty II: Colbys reference: “Fire up the spaceship!”
Well, here we go again. TPTB trotting out legacy characters that they have already ruined and violated. Probably just for a scene or so. And, yes, I would like to see Nathan Parsons back–but only to reveal that he is NOT Luke’s son!
BTW, where is Robert Scorpio in all this? Won’t be a real goodbye to Luke character without his old pal Robert and his fellow improv partner Tristan Rogers. Alas, the “goodbye” to Luke character will not have the impact it should have had because of the whole so-called Fluke debacle and complete violation of the character of Luke done in the 52nd anniv. show. I’m going to see it through just to see how badly they write the exit of TG. And, most especially, to see how they treat the scenes between Genie Francis/Laura and TG/Luke. Goodbye to what might have been! I’m expecting nothing much.
I know there are many that agree with you, Nancy, but I found Luke’s childhood trauma plausible and tied nicely in with what I knew of Luke…his inability to be domestic, his need to always be on the run, his conflict between loving Laura and his children but pushing away from them at times…and his “aggression’ “rape” of Laura.
And I would be disappointed if they suddenly revealed Nathan…who I ‘d love to come back, wasn’t Luke’s. Luke and Nathan formed a very strong father/ son love…bond. I’d hate for Luke to suffer that loss….
I agree with you, Rebecca1.
Thanks, Rodd. Good to hear from those with similar points of view!
Rebecca, you know I agree with Nancy but see your point too. I am all talked out on what I thought was the Luke debacle and I am sure folks are tired of my belly aching about it.
I am going to try and remain positive and hope they handle both Holly and Laura’s return well. I also harbor hope that Robert Scorpio will come back for a few cameos. I hope not to be disappointed yet again.
Hope springs eternal and all that.
I agree Rebecca. So many people complain, but realy Luke’s story was very authentic. I applaud Ron, Frank and Tony for their work.
Harry…I’m not sure Scorpio will be “allowed” back due to his other obligations…but it would be great on two levels…to usher off Luke but perhaps to help Anna through her grief over Duke and pts re Carlos.
Thanks, Ghlover…agree!
Tristan Rogers would be great but he is supposedly working on The Young and the Restless. Rick Moses as Hutch would be great. He never got his due. And yes, Leslie Charleston should always be around. She’s as iconic as Luke. Under appreciated and under used.
Y&R should lone him to GH since Colin hasnt been on screen in weeks!
I’d rather have Lester back (Lesley Charleson, Monica).
Huh? Who is Lester? Monica?….very confused, you guys!
Tony Geary calls Leslie Charleson, “Lester.”
@Charday.
Thanks, Charday…LOL
@su0000
I hear you, Su.
As your neighbor, both my Grans are ‘soap Gurus’……especially, my maternal grandmother. She has a way about telling any story that compels one to listen. I think it’s that Scottish accent spoken almost sotto voce.
I could actually see Ada, in her kitchen, dish towel slung over her shoulder, as she once again puts Rachel in her place….LOL (ANOTHER WORLD). I could listen to her forever.
Between having a passel of kids and law-school, my mother hardly had time to breathe. So, no, she did not dedicate much time watching soaps.
hmmm
”1982” that’s a long time back ..
People were born went through college got a masters/phd and probably are your doctor LOL
I do not know of her..
But-
I see the vet watchers are very excited, have fun enjoy her return..
Well, i have a neice who was born in ‘1982’……lets see if you’re right about people born then…..she got caught shoplifting, ended up in foster care, dropped out of school, and does internet porn……you were close but yet suuuuuu far……lol……p.s. you were watching in 2013……Holly was on then……too bad you werent around in 1982…….you missed great moments in GH history(check utube)……and you are right…..im so excited about Holly making a brief appearance i wet myself……thank God for depends…..lol
Yeayyyy….Jimh is back….missed that great, in-your-face-humor…love-ya, jimh. So glad to hear from you….keep it up and I hope you feel 100%…later.
su0000, if you have time, check out Emma’s film titled “Delirious” co-starring John Candy. The movie involves the soap world. You might like it. I think it was released in 1992.
Delirious is one of the funniest movies ever…definitely a sleeper hit! Emma was great and GODS do I miss John Candy!!
I agree. Watch DELIRIOUS; THE LADY AND THE HIGHWAYMAN; THE SHRIMP ON THE BARBIE……just to name a few. 4ever is right, you would enjoy them, su. She can play both ‘funny’ or ‘I think I shall swoon’-kind-of scenes.
Su…you bring up the same point about Laura and some of the other vets over and over again. We get it…you aren’t familiar with her. Younger viewers were either too young to watch or perhaps not born yet. So what. Who cares. Not the fans who DID watch back then. The vets…the legacy characters..go way back. Again…what’s your point? This is GH. The show that you love…that many of us loved way before you started watching. These characters still exist off screen…they’re still referred to and related to the families on the show. This is Lulu, Nicola and Lucky’s mom. Luke’s then love. Scott’s love. She needs no excuse to come back. She’s loved by many viewers. Period.
Our GH included Laura…not every character has to be new or appeal to the demographic you keep dancing around.
Soaps are based on continual stories, characters, families, friends, continuity. They don’t abruptly cut out half the town because they go too far back. The crux…part of the fun…is the fact that still exist and they DO, can come back…like a long lost relative….
Thank you Rebecca1. I do not know why this Su person has to make a point of complaining about how they don’t know Laura, Holly, or other vets. Geez, we get it. If Su only would realize, this show wouldn’t be on today without the veterans that she easily dismisses. GH was about to be canceled in 1978. Actors like Genie, Tony, Leslie, Jane, and Stuart are what helped save it.
Well said Rebecca. I also remember the Holly, Robert, Luke days seemed more fun and carefree compared to the dark, intense, sometimes very ugly stories they are doing now. And they still had their fare share of bad guys and fantastical along with adventures, love stories, and mysteries, sometimes filmed in great locations.
Thanks, Justin. As for Emma/Holly….(she was so beyond gorgeous back then. Loved her/) I agree with what you said and more…my thing is it doesn’t matter how far back a character goes unless that info is being stated for historical/factual reference…to bring the newer viewers up to date……the longer back the better because as I said that helps maintain the continuity from beginning to present. Each time a character from the past comes back…whether it’s the more recent Spinelli or Britt…or Laura, Bobby, Felicia, Lucy, Scott…and now Holly..it only enhances the “realism” of the show. Just as in life people come and go within a community, a circle of friends, family, etc. Love seeing the original “regime!”
I do agree with others though that these short stays are annoying and a tease. If you’re going to bring somone back bring them back! Not just for a few day ratings boost.
oh, thanks, Rose. just saw your post. yep. though I still love today’s GH those “old” ahem, lol…shows,,, really were great. I think there was more of a sense of “belonging.” Characters on the show had groups of friends…whether it was the teens who gathered at Ruby’s…the great dances at Wyndemere, the escapades and friendships between Anna, Robert, Tiffany, Sean…the real old days when Scottie’s relationship with Lee and Gail….Lucky and Luke…There was more of an emotional realism intermixed with fantastical stories and adventures. But everything changes…even when these characters return, they’ll never be the same. The writers aren’t and we’re not…so they’re seen and drawn with different eyes. But still… anticipated.
Thank you, Rebecca. It truly is a conversation stopper.
As a PS to my earlier comment, I also don’t want to live in the past. Vets were once newbie characters. Some took, some didn’t. We need both. Just want there to be continuity of storyline and character…past, present and future…and a little more fun and originality in Port Charles. And keep some Sonny and crime for su0000.
The episodes are on youtube and I recommend trying GH 1978-1981. GH was never better. 1982 was a really bad year for GH but 1983 was pretty great. Try them and you’ll get addicted.
Thanks everyone (who wasn’t grouchy on me) 🙂
I will check both out on youtube and look up the “Delirious” movie..
Special to jimh, thanks for the laugh !!
not grouchy…stern. there’s a difference. 🙂
but really, you’ve heard it before…and not just by me.
Hey, Suoo! Are you familiar with Laura and Holly? Because you haven’t been quite clear on the subject.
Hi Harry,,
No, I have never seen Holly and Laura, I saw Genie on Y&R ..
Hi rebecca1 🙂
I myself just heard Holly was returning. no idea who she is..(so 1 time)
and no, I have never noticed hearing it before, just from you lol thanks for noticing me 🙂
I politely listen to rants about how much better GH was ‘back when Nixon was President .
Always, how much better it was, if people only watched back then, how it was about families, how nobody can write a soap like they did in the 80’s, it was so much better in the 70-80-90’s and on and on about the good ol’ days.
(said politely.. not grouchy ”sternly ” 🙂 lol
A pleaser exchanging you, it is always fun.. the best posters are here! 🙂
again; all I said was—-
hmmm
”1982” that’s a long time back ..
People were born went through college got a masters/phd and probably are your doctor LOL
I do not know of her..
But-
I see the vet watchers are very excited, have fun enjoy her return..
that was all I said ^^^ the truth sheesh nothing to get excited over 🙂
ohhh I do not mind the vets reminiscing, they seem happy doing that..
and I never have commented on their comments about their good ol’ days posts.
Harry likes that stuff 🙂
Hi, Su…you’re right……nothing to lose sleep over…HaHa.
I can understand what you are saying and what everyone else is saying, also.
I enjoy your posts, so keep writing. Sparring with you is a pleasure. And, you are a true GH fan, in the present.
I am used to listening to both my grandmothers discuss the good ole days and their favorite soaps….mostly ANOTHER WORLD, THE DOCTORS, OLTL, and AMC….Thing is, I love it…it has rubbed off on me.
Just think, Su, girl….thirty years from now, we will be lamenting …..ahem, who? No one comes to mind… Who? Maura, for sure. Oh, yeah…Nathan’s abs? LOL.
Seriously, though…..We will reminisce….except, there probably will not be any soaps to watch. What a depressing thought.
het CeeCee,
shhh dont be saying our soaps will vanish 🙁
eventho true, it’s too sad to hear it lol
My neighbor is a soap Guru ..
She has been watching since day one, I’d bet..
My grandparents/ mother, sister, aunts none have watched soaps, just me..
G’ma would say why do you watch that tripe/nonsense.. .. LOL
Hey Su…
I pointed Laura out more specifically because I believe you said the same thing about her return; lol…I think you’ve said the same thing for every vet that was before your time. And THAT…was my point when I “sternly” mentioned to you that you say it over and over again…
These characters, like I and others have said, are part of the GH canvas. Past, present…they’re all inhabitants of that world. So, really, it doesn’t have to be mentioned that “since then people have gone to college, gotten their masters.”..etc…
A different approach might be for you to say…”This character was on before I started watching. How does she relate to Luke? Should be interesting to watch…” (or not, for you.) But, see the difference?
I enjoy your posts…you know I give you a thumbs up when a comment amuses me…so I think it only fair during our little group’s “intellectual debates” over the lives of our peeps in the soap hood to call out points that irk us as well!
And I do agree…”shhhhhhhhh” on the soaps vanishing thing…
Su000, I was kidding when I said you have not been clear on the subject of Holly and Laura and whether you were watching back in the 80’s.
I guess that joke went THUD!
When I heard “lady love from Luke’s past” I was kind of hoping for Skye. I love Emma Samms, but don’t love what they’ve done with Holly.
I couldn’t believe how good… Luke and Skye once were
she is the one that should be back… to stratosphere the Quartermaine
w/her daughter from Lorenzo
fill that manse with family…
Alice
Monica
Tracy
Michael
Dillan
Skye
Lila Rae
lets get some life back in that manse and our lives
bring back Robin Christopher and her real life daughter to play Lila Rae
please
I do not miss Skye or Ethan.
+1,000,000
Hot stuff! I’m happy for GH fans!!!
I love Emma, she is a wonderful actress. I also loved her as Fallon Colby on Dynasty.
Me too, Ricardo but wasn’t it odd that the American born Fallon suddenly had a British accent? I haven’t seen a British accent overtake someone’s speech that fast since Madonna suddenly spoke with a British accent.
LOL, Harry. I remember that….Madonna and her affectation of a British accent, which lasted for a nanosecond.
My grandmother has been in this country for sixty years….she still has a very tight and distinct Scottish accent.
Haha, Harry! I remember that, too. Madonna…sorta like my NY friend who moved to California. Suddenly, she was valley girl personified! Made me cringe…
ENGLISH!
OHHHH….I’d forgotten until you reminded me of her nickname, Fond memories.
I do love Luke’s nick names—English, Blaze, Spanky Buns and Angel.
He also called Mac Scorpio “Bubu “which I didn’t appreciate because at the time Luke was having an affair with Mac’s wife, Felicia. That was possibly one of the worst couplings in daytime history.
Awwww….I’m already nostalgic. Let’s not forget Lucky/Cowboy, Ethan/Dodge, Lulu/Cupcake, Skye/Red, Anna/Slim, Alexis/Natasha and Stefan…Vlad!
Give him props most of those were ad libbed, they were GREAT.
Agreed, Harry–one of the worst couplings ever!!
It ranks right up there with Patrick and Sappy, Harry!!!! That one was an absolute, epic fail!!!!
if genie francis comes back for one short stint to send off geary ill lose all respect for the actress,,,if this is the case she deserves to be treated the way they have treated her,,after her last big disappointing return i woild have thought she had had enough slap in the faces..by the powers at g,h…for daytime television for that matter..young and restless treated her no better,,frickin phelps,,,i just hope genie gets a contract and good story telling for the charater of laura,,,,fooled once by you g,h shame on you,,,fooled twice by you g,h shame on me….folled 3 times im done as most genie francis fans will be,,with her and general hospital..
I think .. we all.. will be getting our wish… in that… Genie Francis will be long term… and that it will be Holly.. who will leave with Luke
and he will bequeath an empire… if you will… that Laura can continue on with the Spencer legacy
seems appropriate
LOL… i’d hate to spend my time… watching Emma Samms… holding up her false eyelashes
I hope your right, where Genie Francis is concerned.
I said the same thing Patrick, Luke leaves with Holly. They are better suited for each other.
Hmmm i got to thinking….Laura and Sloan???
Timmm…I believe you may be right that Holly will be on for a short stay, although I’d personally love it if she were back on full time! But leaving with Luke…as in the two being a couple again, would seem strange to me. Holly may be a part of his exit but Luke is, and should be, still very in love with Tracy. I’d be surprised if he leaves her for another woman…or WITH another woman in a romantic sense.
I realize that Luke and Tracy have loved one another for a long time,
We’ve all enjoyed their story, the high jinx, shenanigans, laughter, love,
mutual respect, multiple “weddings”… He’s also injured her in ways
that are not obviously seen, she’s still carrying the hurt inside… Does
she believe this go around will be different? Or finally understand that
loving him means letting go…
I really liked the Holly character – but paired with Robert Scorpio. Too bad Robert is not part of Luke’s send off.
As for Laura, I was initially excited to hear the character would be returning to GH but now am feeling quite ambivalent about it all. How many times have we been let down over the years regarding a Luke and Laura storyline? Not sure if I am going along for the ride….
I understand and I will bail if I have to endure that. The old episodes are too great to be muddied with crap. So far I see stupid stuff like Luke getting a tattoo and explaining it in a flat tone of voice.
Yes, stupid stuff; now his is wanting an engagement party! Say what???????????
On The Haunted Star no less where Laura disappeared for two years and was held hostage in a very abusive way. Luke didn’t only not have search for her body but didn’t bother to have a memorial service for her if he thought she was dead. Tracy has never been a very nice person herself. What’s up with the lousy music on the modern show? They don’t bother to hire someone to write music?
My expectations are very low. I’ve accepted that L&L was a young romance that sputtered as do real life romances at times. Lets move on. Godspeed Anthony.
I am not sure L&L could adequately be described as a”young romance that sputtered as do real life romances at times,” so forgive me if I expect more than an “old sweatshirt” of an ending. As for moving on, I am happy to do so and wish Mr. Geary well.
Hi, Les.
I am no expert on Luke and Laura, but I don’t think the writers’ intention is to give these two a storyline, since Luke is leaving. I believe Laura is staying? Her presence is one of many to rally around Luke/Tony as he exits the GH stage.
Then again, who can really guess!!
I remember when I was little-watching Emma Samms and thinking how beautiful she was back in the 80’s-I still think that. I loved Holly and Robert. I always look forward to her returns. On another note, does anyone else find nuLulu incredibly annoying? I hope that Luke takes nuLulu with him when he (sadly) leaves Port Charles. Does she work? Does Kiki work? Does Morgan? Good grief-these “kids.”
The fact that we still refer to new Lulu as NEW Lulu says it all….. Gh should take the opportunity tonsend Lulu packing as well, at least the timw for a quick sawo back to Original Lulu
dmr, hi
Kiki, Morgan, Lulu kids LOL
Didn’t Sonny give Morgan a restaurant? Perhaps Kiki is the cook .. aaaha!
What was Holly’s job/career??
Yes, nuLulu very annoying. I hope Dante has an affair with Valerie Spencer (played by Brytni Sarpy—love her she spells her first name)!
ohh no..
…. both.. Lulu and Valerie are bad, real bad,,
However!
Lulu is still a good length behind Val she is the worst of the two..
Poor Dante he could do much much better than either of them, but he will be stuck with one of them..
Sadly, I have heard that the story of Luke is over. TG has made it clear that he is retiring and he would like to see Luke go out with a bang….
So for those of us that know and love the era…. enjoy the farewell and thank you TG for great story!
I’m not banking on his going out with a “bang”; I think it will be more like a “whimper” after all the crazy stuff that went down with the “Fluke” character. Alas, too bad to see such an ignominious end to a career.

‘General Hospital’s’ Steve Burton Shares Reaction to His Lead Actor Daytime Emmy Nomination, ‘It Was to Honor Leslie Charleson’

The 53rd Annual Daytime Emmy Award nominations kicked-off on Monday with the announcements of four major categories including, Outstanding Lead Performer in a Daytime Drama Series — Actor, and among the nominees is General Hospital’s Steve Burton (Jason Morgan).
Burton is already a two-time Daytime Emmy winner in the Supporting Actor category for his roles as GH’s Jason and his turn as Dylan McAvoy on Y&R. However, Steve is yet to win in the Lead Actor category and he has received 11 nominations along the way in his daytime career.
Following the reveal that he is a 2026 Daytime Emmy nominee, he and his GH co-star, podcast co-host and comedy show partner, Bradford Anderson (Spinelli) taped a special edition of their That’s Awesome podcast just featuring Burton’s reaction to the news.

FOR LESLIE CHARLESON
Steve expressed, “I know it’s such a cliche to say, ‘I’m just so honored to be nominated.’ But truly, I’m so grateful to be nominated, so grateful to just be on the show off and on for 30 plus years and to be nominated with the guys in my category. Just to get the opportunity. Frank (Valentini, executive producer, GH) texted me right away. I was just like, ‘Thank you for the opportunity to get to do what I do.'”
Taking in the moment, Burton thanked those who helped him select the material for his nominated reel. “Unless you win, you don’t get to say things. So. I’m going just say a few things: Elizabeth Korte (co-head writer, GH) helped me a lot with the material, (as did) Michelle Henry, who’s a producer on the show, Laura Wright (Carly, GH), and then my wife Michelle (Lundstrom). I believe it was Jill Phelps who told me that when A Martinez felt like he had a great show or great scenes, he would mark it down. So, when Emmy time comes, you have all the show numbers written down, and you don’t have to think about it, because that’s half the battle (finding the material).
Burton explained how meaningful this nomination is for him, because of playing the scenes of Jason losing Monica, and his closeness with the late, great Leslie Charleson.
“The nomination’s an amazing thing, and it’s beautiful, but really it’s to honor Leslie Charleson. A lot of my material was because of her, and how I started on the show as a Quartermaine, it just means a ton,” shared Burton. “Maurice Benard (Sonny, GH) has obviously has been instrumental, and I’ve said it from day one and I’ll shout it from the rooftops. If it wasn’t for him, I wouldn’t be here, and to be working with the people that we work with is incredible.”

SHOULD JOHN OLIVER BE NAMED HOST OF THE DAYTIME EMMYS?
During the end of his conversation with Anderson, Steve suggested that the host of the Daytime Emmy should be Last Week Tonight’s John Oliver, who recently guest starred as the head of the WSB named Z on General Hospital, and is soon to show up on Days of Our Lives in a mystery role in August.
Thus far, the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences has not revealed their host for the upcoming ceremony to be held on October 30 in a venue to be named in Hollywood, California.
You can watch Steve sharing his reaction to receiving his 2026 Lead Actor Daytime Emmy nomination below on a special segment on the That’s Awesome podcast.
Now let us know, are you glad that Steve chose scenes surrounding Jason mourning the loss of the woman that raised him, Monica Quartermaine for his Emmy reel? What do you think of John Oliver as a suggestion to host the Daytime Emmys? Weigh-in via the comment section below.

GENERAL HOSPITAL: Jason Reconnects with Danny; Tristan Roberts Arrives in Port Charles, Lots of Nods to #16

General Hospital’s 16,000th episode was packed with little reminders through points in today’s script that the ABC daytime drama series has set another milestone and it paved the way for the return of fan favorite and newly nominated Daytime Emmy Lead Actor nominee Steve Burton (Jason Morgan). The 16,000th episode also introduced viewers to the new surgeon in Port Charles Dr. Tristan Roberts played by Dean Geyer.
Here are the key takeaways and what went down on the July 13 episode: Tristan and Jason are seated next to each other on a plane heading to Port Charles. Throughout the flight, a beaten up Jason has flashbacks to being thrown into, and being held captive in a cell and tortured. It appears Jason is suffering from some form of PTSD from what he was put through after being dragged out of Port Charles by the WSB months ago.
As the plane prepares to land, Tristan tells Jason there would be a car waiting for him once they land and to enjoy the rest of his life. Later, Tristan arrives at the nurses and doctors hub at GH and approaches Elizabeth (Rebecca Herbst). He tells her his name and that he is the new surgeon on staff.

A REUNION PLUS A HEAD NURSE DEFENDS SONNY
Meanwhile, at the end of the episode, Jason is outside the Quartermaine boathouse looking bewildered when he runs into Danny (Asher Antonyzyn), who is so thrilled to see his father, and the two hugs each other as tears are shed.
Elsewhere, Elizabeth tells Sonny (Maurice Benard) that he thinks its a great idea for him to get the 16th seat on the hospital board, but when it comes times to convince Tracy Quartermaine (Jane Elliot) of that, things go awry when Tracy, Laura and Sonny try to work things out. After Tracy launches into Sonny about killing Alan and Monica’s son AJ, Sonny walks away dejected.
Next, Sonny runs into Elizabeth, where he informs her what happened with Tracy. So what’s a head nurse to do? Elizabeth marches into the conference room and reminds Tracy of all the different donations and ways Sonny has contributed to the hospital from the Stone Cates AIDS wing, to the Michael Corinthos Center for Pediatric Head Injuries as well as his constant support each year for the GH Nurses’ Ball.

WSB WAR SCARS
Then, in one of the best parts for longtime fans of the series, Elizabeth talks about her legendary grandparents, Audrey and Steve Hardy and she tells Tracy they would have wanted Sonny to have a seat on the board for all the good that he has done for the hospital. After Elizabeth states Sonny’s case, things took a turn and Tracy and Sonny wound up shaking hands as Sonny is board member #16.
In the how great was it to see Anna (Finola Hughes) and Valentin (James Patrick Stuart) together scenes department, the pick-up of last Friday’s cliffhanger is played out as the two former lovers fill each other in on what has gone down in their lives in the last several months including Valentin admitting he had been living in Carly’s attic, and Anna realizing she was kidnapped by Cullum, Sidwell and Cassius Faison. During their conversation, Anna sees the hallucination of Peter August (Wes Ramsey) right while Valentin is standing there.

Later Anna was on her way to saying goodbye to Valentin, when the two share an emotional hug. After Valentin made his exit, Peter reappeared and warned Anna to not let Valentin distract her because she has important work to do. Anna answers, “I know.”
So, what did you think of General Hospital’s 16,000 episode? What do you think is wrong with Jason? What is the important “work” that Anna has to do? Were you glad to see Sonny get a seat on the hospital board, or not so much. Weigh-in via the comment section. But first, check out the scenes on Jason and Tristan’s long flight to Port Charles.
